Jock’s Locks for 2012 – #2 – Scott Pendlebury
Much has been written about how I made reference to young Scott Pendlebury’s ‘dread-locked’ hair style in our first podcast. Some have accused me of suggesting that my opinion of his scone somehow took away from the fact that he is an exceptional player. Now blind Freddy can tell you that Scott is a cut above most of the rest and that is not what I was suggesting at all.
Every now and then a team finds a bloke that has evolved to the next level. My old mate Ian Stewart played the game in a way todays players would be impressed by in the late 60’s. He played like he knew a trick the others hadn’t learnt yet – he made it all look bloody easy. Now this is a big rap on young Pendles but I’m reminded of Ian when I watch him play. Questionable hair style decision making aside – he is a dead set gun. However – I stand by my opinion that he needs to get down the barbers for an honest short back and sides.
The good news for Fantasy Footy coaches is that all this translates nicely into AFL Dreamteam and Supercoach points. Higgo will spit chips if I dont include some of his stats so here they are. As was the case with my #1 Lock Matt Priddis they speak for themselves;
- No long stints on the sidelines – 20, 21, 20, 22, 22 games in his first 5 full seasons
- Still improving – In the last 5 seasons in SC he has averaged 81, 88, 98, 107 then 117 in 2011
- Gets a chop out – With Swan, Daisy and Co in the mix he is not the only target for opposition taggers
- Only 23! Not yet at his prime – Will be pricey but unless he gets a big head or something he should improve for the next few years
What do you reckon folks? Will you be locking young Scott into your team in season 2012?
