Well that was something. Andrew Gaff hitting Andrew Brayshaw right on in the face. We can debate the thuggery of it all we want, but for all intents and purposes, Gaff is done for the season and we need a replacement. Lekdog and Patch discuss those replacements.

They also talk about several forward and defensive options, while taking care to not mention certain options as well (cough*MENEGOLA*cough).

Lek also introduces his new favourite song, which Patch had to shorten for copyright reasons but the whole thing is HERE. It is truly excellent, if by excellent you mean awful, and by awful you mean awesome.

So come on in and have a chat, let us know who you’re trading in and out and tell us about your finals exploits!

No link attached to the podcast guys

  2. PizzaSafety says:

Yeah no link to pod boys. I've watched that cube video though, was thoroughly impressed by what I saw.

    • Lekdog says:

Thanks mate we'll fix it up now, great song

    • Patch says:

It's a bloody impressive piece of music and cinematography. Far better than my own attempts at publishing things.

      • PizzaSafety says:

It's very impressive and a smoky to be played at this years GF. Maybe you can also show Damo this old freo heave ho dance that was part of some absurd amalgamation of all the team songs back in '96 if he hasn't already seen it. Truly encompasses the spirit of heave ho https://youtu.be/EicgMbM9OqY?t=3m26s Also a very good pod again by the pair of you

        • Lekdog says:

          Thanks Pizza!

          • Terry Desbois says:

Have a vinyl 45 copy of the Mike Brady single "The Cube". Unfortunately won it at a comp at the School Disco in the early 80's!

            • Lekdog says:

You are joking! That's so good Terry! We may need to get you to the Grand Final and break our way into the sound booth!

              • Terry Desbois says:

Sounds like a plan. It has a picture cover "Mike Brady and the Cubettes" The video on Youtube is one for the ages as well………

        • Dice_real says:

There goes 10 minutes of my life I won't get back

  3. BendOver&Coffield says:

Thanks for the content lads, I've enjoyed the ride but now my Supercoach tale comes to an end.

I'll have to suffer all off season wondering why I luxary traded out Buddy Franklin to Heeney this week only to lose my final by 7 points

    • Trades says:

Rough mate, better luck next year

    • Cpt says:

      Unlucky BOC! 😤

I went undefeated all season and got down by Franklin despite scoring in the 2600’s. He won’t do that every week though. I have the double chance.

At least you get an early jump on planning and can sit back and enjoy every game now.

  4. Richard says:

I need some assistance community. I’m in a cash league and don’t know what trades to make. My team is as follows.
DEF: Lloyd, Yeo, Crisp, Hurley, Mcdonald
MID: Mitchell, Danger, Cripps, Zorko, Merrett, Olver, Ablett, Martin
    Ruck: Gawn, Martin
Forward: Heeney, Wingard, Menegola, Gray, Mclean, Billing’s.
The uniques on both of our teams are as follows
    Mine: Billing’s, Ablett, Menegola,Wingard,Zorko,Lloyd
Theres: Smith, Crouch, Coniglio, Franklin, Simpson, Walters

I have 4 trades and I don’t want to trade out Ablett as he’s been phenomenal over the last month (Finished on 85 last week after being -1 at quarter time). I am however leaning towards trading a rookie down to freeman and then upgrading Billingns to smith. Leaving me with 2 trades for the last 2 weeks. Is there any better trades that I should consider? Cheers community

    • BockChoy says:

4 trades left… Oh, the luxury! By all means, paint the fence to bring in the strongest possible player.

    • James says:

Impressive making finals with 5 defenders…. hard to look past bringing in Josh kelly for ablett or grundy for Stef martin

      • Randomcliche2 says:

I did, due to no trades and Sicily, Howe and Savage all in defence! 2595/21 was pretty special. But not selecting a 6th, that's next level 🙂 You've listed Simpson as unique, so assuming you don't have him I think it's either d6 depending on who he is or Billings into Smith. I also reckon bringing in Grundy could also do the trick. But upgrade billings I think….Smith is clearly a better choice.

    • Swoopster says:

In FWD line Franklin has to be considered for his very high ceiling.
In MID, Macrae and Kelly have to be ahead of those you mentioned.

  5. Rivo says:

    Great work Lek & Patch.

    Sheep Stations now!

3 trades and $27k. Made it through to Prelim in all leagues & ranked 1600. So while I have a week off, a dilemma re Kelly…

    1. JPK & Giro to J.Kelly & Farrell now?? or

    2. Miss on Kelly and look at Macrae in a 2 trade scenario the following week??

    • The Ranger says:

If you get Kelly now he will absolutely definitely without a doubt get injured Rivo, that's how the SC Gods roll

      • Rivo says:

Thx Ranger. Just had enough of JPK and this was the window to get Kelly. Missed on 125 points difference last week and cost me in rank. And Farrell is DPP bench on the bubble.

    • BockChoy says:

While Kelly looks undeniably good, don't go chasing last week's points.

      • Rivo says:

Thx Bock. If I wait, he goes up $50k and I miss out on him. JPK has been a spud for weeks. Warm body yes, but no much of a pulse.

  6. Lazza says:

Um, Billing’s outscored Smith by 27 this week.. don’t get the logic. As to why you would burn a trade..
BTW m, you do need an extra DEF.. who is your D6.

    • Richard says:

My logic is that Billings only scored that highly because he played against the bulldogs, and will go back to his 70-80 point self next week. My D6 is Laird

      • Lazza says:

Good team.. all your players have good ceilings….. If it was me, and I had to make a move.. I’d be considering moving Ablett to Kelly, or Martin to Grundy (though they play each other this week). Replacing Billings seems right but choosing a FWD is hit and miss… no consistency at all…

  7. Cpt says:

    2606pts up 72 places. Ranked 512.

    3 Trades (Gaff 🤮)

Great podcast Lekdog & Gentleman Patch. Keep the quality coming, guide us to victory 🏆

Any chance for a Jock and boys return for the GF week?

    • Lekdog says:

Unlikely on the Jock return but I'll ask the question. Massive effort this season mate, get Gaff to the best player you can!

      • Cpt says:

        Thanks Lekdog 👍🏼

I was thinking how lucky I’ve been this year and without checking, Savage has been my only injury this year. I luxury traded Dusty out and In, I burnt 9 trades during buys and was lucky when I traded in rookies after 1 game.

Shows how much needs to go right to win the GAME!

        • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

Just had a quick look at my trades.
1 on injury that is some good luck right there.
Ive had 9 though 3 were injury prone so knew that going in.

          • The Ranger says:

10 injury trades for me so far. Think that's my new record.
Crouch, Kelly, Venables, Kreuzer, Naughton, English, Macrae, Fyfe, NicNat, Sicily…still got three trades left, tenner says I spend another one at least on an injury.

  8. Greenie says:

Option 1- shuey to macrae & McLean to menegola/wingard/dunkley

Option 2- nankervis to Grundy & Mclean to gray

Option 3- nankervis to Grundy & shaw to crisp/Hurley

Option 4- shuey to macrae & ahern to Walters/Petrccaa (mid bench cover)

  9. Rivo says:

Don’t mind Option 2. Wait for selections before locking it in.

  10. Bobby says:

Who scores higher this week. Billings or Smith?

  11. PizzaSafety says:

Ranked 4498, 1 trade left and 139k in the bank

    Team looks like

Yeo, Lloyd, Laird, Simpson, Crisp, Hurley (Redman, Ridley)

Titch, Cripps, Danger, Oliver, Neale, Cogs, J Selwood, Dusty (Spargo, Giro, England)

    Gawn, Martin (Olango)

Gray, Heeney, Smith, McLean, Buddy, Walters (Ahern, T Smith)

Not sure why I traded in a non playing late game rookie in England rather than a DPP player (downgraded Guelfi to get Lloyd for Howe), I guess I thought I might need to loophole Ahern with Selwood if his poor form continued but oh well, wasn't thinking long and hard about supercoach last week.

I'll be using my final trade to go Martin to Grundy this week, I can't do it hereafter due to their prices growing apart. I might be getting a donut down back but with Martin seemingly sharing the ruck more often it could easily get me 140 points for the rest of the year. Even though I'm in a prelim in a DRSC league I'm in a semi in my private league and I feel I require Grundy in both to win (especially if in R23 he's up against Freo without Sandi)

Anyone feel free to comment on my side

    • Lekdog says:

I lean towards holding the trade but can understand the move!

      • PizzaSafety says:

Certainly the safer move Lek and what I plan on doing is waiting just before the bounce so that at least 8 of my players are injury free before the game starts. I've wanted Grundy all year and I'm going to grab this last opportunity to have him.

  12. Swoopster says:

Is it time to trade L. Ryan (Freo def) ass?
I have 4 trades left and 60k in the bank, so if i trade him this week I can afford – by order of my preference – Hurn, TMac, Crisp or JJ.
If i wait and he keeps dropping turds, trading him out will take an extra trade.

D: Yeo, Lloyd, Laird, Simpson, Hurley (Duman, B.Lynch)
M: Titch, Cripps, Danger, J.Kelly, Oliver, Macrae, Pendlebury, M.Crouch (Powell, E.Phillips, Barry)
    R: Gawn, Grundy (Cameron)
F: Gray, Smith, Heeney, Franklin, McLean, Walters (Ahern, Garlett)

  13. TBone_9 says:

Got a Gaff problem with 3 trades left and 15k ITB. Is it worth making two trades to get enough cash to go up to Kelly? Or just side swap to Duncan/Ward/Crouch/Jelwood? Cheers guys 🙂

    • PizzaSafety says:

In my opinion I'd go for Duncan/Jelwood due to the easy draw (there is always a risk Selwood gets tagged). Kelly will most likely outscore all of them but 5/6 of his 110+ scores this year have come against the bottom 5 sides on the ladder with the exception of Port (who he was heading for a sub 100 against until Q4). These teams let him play in space and failed to pay him proper attention. I don't see that happening against Adelaide, Sydney and the Dees and there is a good chance he's tagged against the first two like he was against the eagles and hawks.

      • Ja191 says:

Ye spot on averaged 90.7 against top 5 sides and 149.2 against bottom 5 sides. im personally doing a straight swap to Crouch

        • TBone_9 says:

Yeah good call guys, Duncan with 2% ownership has been calling my name, but the discount on Jelwood could be handy as it may allow me to upgrade with my other two trades left

          • Lekdog says:

These are all smart comments^ Id be using one trade and go9ng for value over chasing Kelly

  14. Pete says:

    Menegola, westhoff or Dunkley?
    Please help!

    • Ja191 says:

      • PizzaSafety says:

Menegola, I know he's been inconsistent but less so in recent times and like it's mentioned on the pod he likes to beat up on bad teams and the Cats have Freo and the GC at home in R22 and 23. I reckon the whole team will go HUGE in those games and even Jed Bews will pump out a 150.

    • Lekdog says:

    • Bob says:

      None of those…..WINGARD

  15. Adam says:

    Here we go elimination final
Gaff must go, 2 trades do I downgrade and the upgrade to anyone leaving 0 trades or
Gaff too sum1 556 or under leaving 1 trade please Help

    • Ja191 says:

1 trade to jackson macrae lock and load it

    • I’m a patriot says:

If you recon your blokes can get up with just the 1 trade? GO FOR IT
You can’t bank it for next yea tho
I think there are a few good POD’s under 556k
But I don’t know your team or the chap your against.
Good luck with whatever you choose

  16. Bobby says:

Ranked 209 3 trades remain. Hoping to finish top 100 as a PB.

I remember reading that Sixty6 predicted Kelly for a 120+ avg along with his other inside info. Glad I jumped on when he said he was good to go. Captained Kelly over the weekend so happy about that.

    • Holty01 says:

He has enjoyed beating up on the lesser teams since returning. It will be interesting how he scores the last 3 games as apart from Port, he hasnt scored a ton against a top 12 team. But if u are going for rank as it seems u are, he has been a great pick. A little bit concerned with him however with league finals. I guess we wait and see how he scores against stronger teams over the next 3 weeks

    • Holty01 says:

Btw, you should join the jock reynolds group so people can see how ur team is going.

  17. Rabbits16 says:

    8 weeks for the Gaff

    • I’m a patriot says:

      He’s gutted ay

    • Holty01 says:

Agree he gets 6 or maybe 7 (to miss finals) but to rub someone out whose played 170 games without even a fine for more than Barry Halls 7 i really struggle to understand. Especially when you compare their pasts. I know it is 10 years later but he will be remembered now as the person who got more weeks then Hall and im not sure his record deserves that.

      • Doc says:

What I don't understand is how he gets more than Cameron when Cameron has prior convictions, was obviously trying to hurt Andrews as well as Andrews having bleeding on the brain

      • Lekdog says:

Different times, changing media landscape, recent coward punches in the news all would have influenced the decision I feel. Can't really compare to Hall

        • Randomcliche2 says:

Agreed Lekdog. Times have changed. Be interesting to see if the police do anything al la the greatest of time…but by the looks at the airport footy players remain a protected species.

          • Derek says:

I would love to know why. What was he thinking, doing when he hit him.

            • BrownlowBoy says:

Supposedly he was going for a chest punch, and because Brayshaw stepped forward, his body was lowered and he just chinned him.

      • r_calve says:

they had to give him the full 8 because of the damage he did to Brayshaw's face and so there was a guarantee he wouldn't play again this year

    • Richard says:

He should have got another 8 weeks for running away after he smashed Brayshaw's face up.Didn't seem very remorseful to me

    • Rabbits16 says:

reckon 4 weeks would have been suitable, it wasnt a typical boxing style punch and its out of character. Definate brain snap moment

  18. Trades says:

In the prelim and not playing this week.
Got 6 trades and have Gaff. Will need to go one down one up to get McRae or Kelly.
Or should I double downgrade this week, get a heap of cash then upgrade Nank and Gaff week after?
I could run the risk of getting a 1 more injury though.

  19. kanga says:

2016 Tom Jonas got 6 weeks for striking A.Gaff with the ball right there.
Any m0r0n who thinks Gaff should have got 6 or less for an off the ball punch is kidding themselves.

  20. BrownlowBoy says:

Gaff and JPK to Zorko and Selwood?

    • Blueth says:

is Selwood out of defence yet?
Also worried a few of the senior cats might get rested in the last 2 rounds

      • Richard says:

Your Kidding Cats are trying to make the 8 they wont be resting anyone

      • BrownlowBoy says:

Has the highest SC score on ground last week so him playing a bit of defence doesn't worry me in the slightest.

    • Derek says:

One of the best articles ever written on anything in the history of the world, was in the first JR Magazine on the Mammoth Curve.

It talked about footballers getting to the end of their career and like the extinction of the Mammoth can see the edge of the cliff and the finish of their careers. They steel themselves for one last effort. The article talked about a player have a jump in form for a year after a few years of decline, before going the way of the Mammoth.

There are a few Geelong players who are in that category, Selwood, Ablett. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them raise one last big effort and finish strong.

There are a few others in that category as well, JPK, Pendles, Cotchin, Burgoyne, Ward, Shaw & Beams. Might be the last time we see these players as SC relevant

Next year it is the new generation. Oliver, Kelly, MaCrea, Merrett, Mitchell, Heeney, Cripps.

    • r_calve says:

mmmm zorks looks ripe for the picking because other teams now tag beams instead

      • PizzaSafety says:

Merrett has averaged 108 after the first 3 rounds and is much better at handling a tag now after scoring a 112, 123 and 114 the last 3 times he was tagged. Will be priced averaging 100 and looks the most obvious underpriced uber premium going into next year. Titch, Cripps, Kelly, Oliver Yeo and Merrett will be my starters next year if I can somehow manage to afford all of them (which is impossible).

  21. Road to number1 says:

So much more civil in here now, so glad the pretenders ran out of trades halfway through the season like we knew the would.

  22. TheGreatBozza says:

Got 3 trades left but no idea how to use them:
    35k Bank

DEF – Yeo, Lloyd, Laird, Simpson, T Mac, Crisp (Austin, O'Riordan)
MID – Titch, Cripps, Danger, Kelly, Cogs, Beams, Dusty, Pendles (Giro, Ahern, Dawson)
    R – Gawn, Grundy (Hayes)
FWD – Hoff, Gray, D.Smith, Walters, McLean, Heeney (De Goey, T.Smith)

I'd look at offloading McLean who has gone off the boil or possible Pendles.

    • Derek says:

      Team looks good.

At this stage of year and 3 trades left, I’d be looking at fixture hunting.

Have a look at teams each week who have great match ups, ie play Suns or Blues. Also teams with poor match ups and look to do a trade to take advantage.

Defenders do very well against GWS and Collingwood. Look at defenders from Crowd or Lions to trade in for a defender who is against an easy team.

Complete luxury trades, but if you have 3 you are way ahead of most

  23. Derek says:

When CD work out positions for next year, do they look at starting positions for centre bounces or do they look at heat-maps to show where they played during the game?

If it is the second, I’m thinking all the Carlton players will have defender status next year.

Will Danger and Dusty get FWD status?

    • r_calve says:

hahaha i rate the Carlton call, also hopefully 1 or 2 of the really good mids like danger, dusty, cogs or even cripps get the forward DPP

i hope it happens but probs not

    • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

Danger and dusty got fwd status in.draftstars and fantasy this year

U never know SC may follow suit next year.

      • neil demons delight says:

A long shot but Clarrie has played a lot forward lately and according to Goodwin will continue to

  24. John says:

Who to get in for gaff out of Kelly, Macrae, Merrett or Duncan?

  25. Seh says:

Two trades left and 250k, need to get rid of gaff and savage, any tips would be appreciated.
Haven't got Danger, Kelly or Oliver in the mids so preferably one of them.
Down back tossing up between Brayshaw, Hurn or McGovern. Currently have Yeo/Lloyd/Simpson/Laird/Crisp and Savage

  26. Bad_News_Brown says:

    Just fking awful

  27. Defying_Madness says:

the communities captain olango is charged with assault!

  28. noah says:

I have 3 trades remaining. Should i use 2 to get josh kelly in for ed curnow?

  29. Bobby says:

Who is likely to score more combined community? Grundy and Billings OR Stefan Martin and Smith. Im struggling to decide wether to bring in Grundy or Smith this week in an elimination final. Cheers community

  30. Mark Fawcett says:

Hey, all:) 2 trades left, slipped back to 76th last week from 60th. Need to say goodbye to Hogan:) Any thought sand input would be great:)

Def: Yeo, Lloyd, Simpson, Brayshaw, Laird, Simpson (Webster, Austin)
Mid: Mitchell, Cripps, Dangerfield, Kelly, Oliver, Merrett, Coniglio, Pendlebury (Daniels, Giro, J.Smith)
    Ruck: Gawn, Martin (McInerney)
Fwd: Wingard, Smith, Heeney, Gray, McLean, Hogan (Ahern, Keeffe)

$27,900 in the bank. Thinking of going Hogan & Webster > Menegola & Bowes who will provide minimum emergency score if required. Menegola should hopefully tear it up over the next 2 weeks against Freo and GC. The only problem leaves me no trades if anything is to happen. Hopefully not many rested next week and my DPP links are enough
