THE CHEAT SHEET Round 20

The SuperCoach Finals are upon us. We’re all looking for ways to take our opponent by surprise. Some of us have two trades, some have five and some lucky ones have seven. How you can have that many trades is beyond me, but good on you!

There are a lot of questions to ask; Do you make a defensive move like matching your opponents Jake Lloyd? Or do you make an attacking move and bring in someone who is having an awesome run of form? My only advice, other than the cheat sheet, is to bring players in who are in good form. Form, not reputation.

Michael Walters makes a reappearance, because there has been lots of talk about what to do with him. Hold him, whether that be on your bench or on your field for one more week. He’ll more than likely move into the midfield a bit more this week.

If you don’t have Max Gawn (why though), or Brodie Grundy then move to get them. Jarrod Witts is mentioned for some reason because he’s cheap.

Good luck for week one of the finals SuperCoaches!

    Cmon Bloods!

  2. Steeeve says:

    Watchlist for 2019

    Brad Crouch
    Sam Docherty
    Rory Sloane
    Zach Merrett
    Kreuzer
    JJK maybe
    Dan Hannebery (big maybe)

Who else should be way too cheap?

  3. Hawks says:

Who is the best mid under $522k

I'm thinking Ablett, Heppell or the Bont. I already have Coniglio & Dusty

  4. Mr Stuck says:

    What do people think?
franklin at F6 (looks cooked to be honest), battle at F7, t,smith at F8 with only 2 trades left (143k bank) and Menegola at M8.
all elimination finals for me this week.
    a. franklin to j.kelly and 1 trade left (first see how Ahern scores sat arvo)
    b. ahern (M9) to mid under 489k (franklin stuck at F6 with no dpp fwd)
    c. trade ahern next week to mid over 500k (after price rise this week)
    d. nothing have to hold

    • Redpill5 says:

I have Franklin too and if I could offload him with one trade I would. Plus j Kelly is a jet and should finish strong, potentially an extra 60-70 points a week with Franklin scoring so poorly.

    • Redpill5 says:

I’m considering loopholing buddy this week. I was going to do it last weekend with ahern and decided last minute to stick with my premos then had coniglio stink it up and ahern pump out 124…. bad decision.

  5. Kanga says:

Hawthorn has been scouting Levi Casboult (28, 4month old) who is out of favor at Carlton knowing T.Lynch wont be coming.
Carlton has interest in trading for Mitch Wallis (RFA) who turns 26 in October and several depth players at Melbourne. The no1 pick wont be traded barring over the top offers.
(apparently they want 2 top 10 picks and more including 1 a top 5 to keep and a top 10 to trade for a ready made star) . All other picks will be turned in ready to play players if they can get them. Knowing Carlton they are looking at several GWS players again.

    • Redpill5 says:

As a Carlton supporter I can’t wait to see the back of casboult. If we manage to get something for him, all the better. I know this guy is supposedly good for structures and one of the best contested marks in the Comp but his poor ball use creates so many turnovers, kills momentum and morale and he’s slow and useless in the ruck. Hawthorn PLEASE take him!!!!

    • Dice_real says:

Yeah I think Lynch goes to Richmond, i think he's been going there since trade time last season.
Casboult was linked to tigers but no interest during trade time. Heard Riewoldt the other night say he's taking a pay cut, surely there's only one reason for this unless they have another big fish in their sights and also to lead by example to the rest of the team. Think Richmond were struggling for the coin to pay Lynch so he's had further discussions with Collingwood.
      Just my opinion

  6. Lazza says:

My dilemma… 5 trades but want to replace 4 players over the finals.. … Buddy, Nank, Ryan and Bont..
Buddy to Wingard or Smith – $85k to $100k.
    Nank to Grundy – $122k
Ryan to Hurn or McGovern – $34k to $39k
    Bont to Macrae – $73k.

It looks like I will only be able to achieve 3.
    Which option would you forego?

    • RobDogs says:

Buddy is playing injured and Macrae will be a lot more expensive soon, so definitely move on them. Grundy will get the higher ceiling than the def's so him next. Also, don't discount that by the time you get through your 5 trades, there will be at least 2 price changes to screw any plans. Personally, I'd move Buddy on and ride the wave with what you have, there will be injuries etc. and with trades you can make a mid round move if you think you need to. If purely rank, go gangbusters.

    • Trades says:

I'm in the same boat. Except looking at Martin to McRae.
I'm going Nank to Grundy this week.
      Loopholing Ahern into Franklin.
Also have Fritsch on he bench

  7. Rivo says:

    Tough calls this week.

3 trades and $27k. Have the double chance in finals and top 2k in overall.

    1. Walters to McLean?
    2. JPK & J.Smith to Macrae & Farrell?
    3. Coniglio & Ridley to Macrae & Lienert?

    • The Ranger says:

In a similar position Rivo and struggling to make a decision.
These luxury trades at the end are almost the most difficult ones to make.
I have a mix of Elimination and Qualifying finals so I think I'll probably just hold but if I was going to get anyone in it would be Macrae.

    • nankthetank says:

Not sure you'd trade walters for mclean considering he has a 5 round ave of less than 90 and has only tonned up once since round 10.
Also not sure why you'd trade coniglio when although he's has a couple dud scores recently he's still averaging 105 over his last 5.
2nd option is by far the best, JPK has been far too inconsistent this year and not having macrae could be the difference between a W or an L in finals

      • Rivo says:

Thanks nank. It’s a tough one. JPK has been disappointing, he could smash out a 140 though his back injury a few weeks ago seems to have slowed him considerably. Will wait on team selections as my defence bench may have zeros with both Mihocek doubtfuland Ridley not playing.

      • Rivo says:

Hey Nank. Teams are in and it’s a line ball call to burn 2 trades just to get Macrae. I’m inclined to hold JPK & Walters and see if I can get through to the prelims given I have finished top 4 in all leagues. Macrae might go large but it’s a risky call to have just 1 trade for 2-3 more finals.

    • Scotty says:

Exactly same boat except waiting to see if Howe plays if he doesn't will probably sideways for shae if he does see how Friday Saturday pans out if first four players spud up will go shuey and miochek to McRae and lineart as I'm in elimination for my $ league !! All or nothing no use havin three trades left if I get knocked out

  8. Florence Maxwell says:

    Cheers Damp

  9. Bobby says:

Whos going to score higher this week? Billings or Taranto? Looking to trade one of them out for Wingard.

  10. Cliffy says:

Need some advice guys, I have all major Prelims this week (for 6 leagues I'm in), and now it's about refining the team a bit.

Here it is (I have 5 trades left, and $54,700 left over):

DEF: Lloyd, Yeo, Simpson, Laird, Hurley, Howe (Austin, Redman)
MID: Titch, Oliver, Beams, Coniglio, Cripps, Dusty, Gaff, Merrett (Ahern, Philips, Sier)
    RUCK: Gawn, SMartin (King)
FWD: Heeney, McLean, Walters, Smith, Boak, Westhoff (Fritsch, Ryan)

Thinking my weakest links probably from here are Howe, Boak, Walters and Fritsch. Out of these, who would I worry about moving on first? Also is it worth any consideration of going Stef – Grundy if some of my opponents have the Gawn & Grundy combo? Or not worth a few extra points, and is ultimately a waste of a trade?

    Cheers

  11. Scoops_McYoung says:

Ok, this might get confusing so hear me out:

    Current Situation:
    – 2 Trades and ranked in top 300.
    – No forward line cover, with Buddy and Walters at F5 and F6 (L.Ryan and T.Smith on the bench)
    – Fyfe on the bench, with Ahern at M8.
    – Nank as second Ruck…

SO… I could use my final two trades this week to do the following:

    1. Trade L.Ryan and move Spargo forward for cover and swing possibility.
    2. Move Joel Smith from Def to Mid (Provides swing with Brayshaw).
    3. Trade Lienert in.
    4. Bring Grundy in for Nank (Everyone in my finals series has Grundy, so I'm terrified about what happens if he goes big…)
    5. Play Fyfe for Ahern when he comes back.

This gives me cover on every line in case of injuries, swings and loopholes on every line, leaves Fyfe as my wildcard and gives me an unstoppable ruck. Would leave me with no trades though..

    What do people think?

    • Randomcliche2 says:

I've got no trades. It's fun. I think most premos – buddy is greater than Grundy – nank. Both a bit of a liability. If you are going for leagues and in top 4 consider holding, if sudden death, its a bit trickier. I'm hopeful, given how tight the top 8 is that old general soreness will remain out of sight and mind. But history suggests otherwise. You can lose two players in a week….#riskitbiscuit.

    • Russty_ says:

Fyfe's still 2 to 3 weeks away..if he plays again at all, I'd get rid of him and Buddy and hang on for dear life.

    • nankthetank says:

Liam Ryan listed as extended bench so perhaps wait until that's been confirmed before you make a trade.
I'd be upgrading Nank to Grundy – he's one of the few players that could single handedly lose you a match.
However if you need to use 2 trades to do that which I'm assuming you do, it might be worth holding if you're in a qualifying final and not an elimination (which being in top 300 I'd assume you would be) simply because trades at this time of the season are priceless.
However at the end of the day you've made it to top 300 so you're decision are obviously good, so trust your gut.

  12. Mongul says:

It would help if you said please.
Get Grundy and have a spare trade or else DISASTER.

  13. Matt says:

    Hey guys.

Dunkley or wingard for f6 spot. Or other ideas for that matter. Have enough in bank for anyone.

  14. Richard says:

Funny thing you say Luke Ryan playing a lock down roll. All Freo players play a lock down roll thats why they dont score and its Ross the Toss way of doing things. How does he keep his job ? They are going no-where under his guidence its the same old same old year after year.I just don't get it.What does their board see in him ?

  15. James says:

Got 3 trades left do I, a) Savage to Lloyd or b) Cogs to Macrae??

  16. Sarah says:

Fyfe to Macrae and Dahlhaus to Menegola for me this week I think, need to keep cash to bring in Lloyd next week

  17. Russty_ says:

Howe's out for this week..bummer for those of us who have him, Mihocek and Sier are good to go though.
On a better note..Nathan Freeman to debut for the Saints this week..hope he goes well 🙂

    • Cliffy says:

Is this absolutely 100% Russty he is out this week? I have him and no defensive cover but a couple of trades still to boot.

      • Cliffy says:

Can I see the source? Been running around all day so haven't been able to check the footy news much haha.

        • Russty_ says:

          afl.com.au mate….

COLLINGWOOD will be without important defender Jeremy Howe for Saturday night's clash with Sydney, but will blood a debutant in his place.

Howe has failed to come up for the trip to the SCG after last week's concussion against Richmond, with 25-year-old Jack Madgen to take his spot in Collingwood's back half.
Brody Mihocek (ankle) and Brayden Sier (leg) have been cleared to play against the Swans after their minor fitness concerns.

      • Russty_ says:

You could get Lienert in for backup..or Freeman if you're feeling risky.

        • Cliffy says:

          Cheers mate!

Earlier in the season that would be a good call, but its Finals now and it's important not to have to field rookies at this time of the season, got to keep every line strong. Having said that if I did want to hold Howe for this week I'd get Lienert in for Austin.

          • Cliffy says:

Or technically I could go Howe out for a like for like Defender and then Lienert in for Austin in two trades if I wanted, but we'll see when teams are out (in case there is more unexpected carnage).

  18. Finnius says:

    I need some help community.

In a tight h2h this week (elimination final) with 2 trades and 70k in the bank.

    We both have:

Def: Lloyd, Yeo, Simpson, Crisp and Laird

Mid: Titch, Danger, Gaff, Neale, Cripps and Clarry

    Ruck: Gawn and Grundy

Fwd: Heeney, Gray, Maclean and Dev Smith.

    The points of difference are:

Crouch, Howe, Walters, Kelly and Macdonald (me)

    V

Macrae, Hurley, Hoff, Dusty and Fritsch (him)

I think I am more likely to get up, but am scared of Macrae's damaging ceiling against the saints as opposed to crouch's (even with 40 touches he gets 120).

Considering trading crouch to Macrae to match. Leaves 1 trade and about 20k in the kitty, with minimal cover in fwds and defense. Thoughts? Any other trades you would make?

My other question is would you be fielding ahern or walters? Ahern against the lions is tempting me – his stats last weekend were incredible and you'd back him in again wouldn't you? Walters has a very low floor and has been playing forward in recent weeks. Tough match up vs the weagles as well.

    Cheers in advance boys <3

  19. Hien says:

I have 3 trades left is it worth trading nank to grundy or save the trades?

  20. Cliffy says:

Thanks to Russty with the news before, I have to move on Howe this week with no defensive cover.

My options look like Brayshaw, Crisp, Hurn, McDonald or Shaw so far. What do we think guys?

    Thanks again

  21. Cliffy says:

FYI, already got the important cogs in my backline in Laird, Yeo, Lloyd, Simmo, and I guess Hurley could count too…

  22. The Ranger says:

Taranto out. GWS are crap with injury news…

  23. hedski says:

Looks like I will be chewing on my first jam filled bastard for the year this week with Howe and Savage out and Austin still not sighted.
Playing SC_Kev in Brownlow Boys "SC Elites" league too, at least its not an elimination.
Well done on finishing top of the table Kev, tough league. 👍

  24. PeteB says:

Still amazed by the lack of talk about Grundy pre-season. Had him last year and was one of my first picks this year. Most agile ruckman in the game and only turned 24 this year. Will be a lock for the next 6 years at least barring injury.

  25. dontblushbaby says:

Liam Ryan named 1st emergency ,good luck to him but I hope he doesn't get picked, I want to loop him with Curnow and Ahern

  26. L G says:

Who is the best upgrade for Fritsch? $473K to spend.
Have Smith, Mundy, The Hoff, Heeney & McLean.

  27. SamuraiPizzaCat says:

Not sure what to do with Savage. 3 trades left, 22k cash. Not sure if it's worth using 2 trades to bring in a McGovern or Hurn. Or 1 trade to a Luke Ryan or Webster. Or do I just hold off and cover him with Mihocek and Duman. If I lose this week I still get through to semis so could just hold off and do something next week.

  28. r_calve says:

I got 582k, should i swing ahern forwards and loop him with McLean, in the process getting a m9 to replace Higgins for the week and using Gibbs as my m9 every other week or use ahern in the mids and get a f7

I could get a forward such as the Hoff, breust or tomahawk or a mid like josh kelly or Dayne beams,

which option should I go for and which player to bring in

  29. Andrew says:

Who should I loophole out of Joel Selwood and Dustin Martin tomorrow, have Shuey as my M9…

  30. Spanner says:

Who will have better job security out of Jarrod Leinert and Adam Kennedy? I might need one of them to play the rest of the year.

  31. Sainters to get Gaff says:

Hey Guys, I have 3 trades left and have 24.4k in the bank!! I’m thinking of vc on Mitchell and c on Gawn!! I’m playing in a qualifying final this week and any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    Defenders:
    Laird,Sicily,Yeo
Hurley,Witherden and Tuohy! (Redman and Heron)

    Mids:
    Danger,Dusty,Titch,Heeney
    Higgins,Miller,McLean and Beams!
    (Barry,Dawson and England)

    Rucks:
    Nank and Gawn (Cameron)

    Forward-line:
    Buddy,Gray,Gunston
    Greene,Robinson and Smith!
    (Ahern and Garlett)

    • Russty_ says:

Yeah VC and C sounds good mate, make sure you get Ahern into the mids for Higgins.(assuming that's Shaun).only qualifying so maybe hold your trades, were you thinking of trading anyone?

  32. Rivo says:

Teams are in and it’s a line ball call to burn 2 trades just to get Macrae. Inclined to hold JPK & Walters and see if I can get through to the prelims given I have finished top 4 in all leagues. Macrae might go large but it’s a risky call to have just 1 trade for 2-3 more finals. Thoughts?

    • Russty_ says:

Hey rivo, yeah risky to burn em both this week, Kennedy could lift with their season on the line and Walters could too with the Derby and if his dumb coach plays him more mid, could you still afford to do it next week if you lose this week?
Walters is named in the centre against Yeo yo.

  33. Flaccid Jaff says:

Howe, Savage and Austin all out has killed me for elimination finals! 2 trades left.

Should I go Austin down to fairy-tale Alex Johnson, and Rockliffe up to Dangerfield?
Or, Savage to Tom McDonald, and Franklin to Trengove (or Robinson/Parfitt/Neal-Bullen?

1st option means I get Danger! and covers me in defence for this week. But leaves me with Franklin, Grey and Walters up forward with only Cox as cover for both fwd/ruck.
2nd option means I've upgrade both forward and defence, and creates a Tom Mac swing-set with Keefe as flexibility through finals with no trades. but means I've got Shuey on field in the middle instead of Danger.

    What do I do community?

    Thanks!

  34. TBone_9 says:

Got Howe out this week, will use Lynch to cover him as I’m only in a Qualifying final. 4 trades left with 60k ITB.

    1. Dusty to Macrae

    2. Stef Martin to Grundy

Which trade seems more worth it? Only willing to use 1 trade this week. Cheers guys 🙂

  35. J.Brayshaw is my dad says:

Have 3 trades left and i want to solidify my final midfield spot with Macrae but the only way i can do it is if i trade Fritsch and Giro for him. Is it a smart decision? I'd be full premo with some cover in the def,mid and fwd in Durman, Spargo and Ahern/Smith if i bring in Macrae

    • Russty_ says:

Depends on if you're in mostly qualifying or elimination finals this week…sounds like you want to do it…so maybe just do it?

  36. Russty_ says:

Oh I thought you had Dawson from Sydney..Suns Dawson could play maybe.

  37. Hawks says:

    decision time

I cant loophole in the midfield, capital letters indicates definite on-field, the others I'm undecided –

MITCHELL, CRIPPS, OLIVER, HEPPELL, CONIGLIO, DUSTY, shuey, kennedy, rockliff, ahern, (Giro – definitely on bench)

Which 2 of the 4 should I start on-field, leaning towards Shuey & Kennedy.

  38. Trades says:

    Got 6 trades.
2trades to get anyone as no cash.
    Nank to Grundy
    Martin to McRae
    Franklin to Westhoff
    Ryan to McDonald

  39. BoyOBoy Wowee says:

upgrading Fritsch to any forward or defender.

Thoughts on Rhys Stanley? averaging 104 in his last 5 and playing well as solo ruck. His run home is Nank (scored 149 last time against him), hawks (ceglar), freo (probs no sandi) and then witts.

Haven't heard anyone really mention him so would like people's opinion. If I don't go him other two options atm are probably McGovern or D.Smith

    • Russty_ says:

McGov or D.Smith are good options mate, Stanley is ruled out this week with an injury, Cats are playing a rookie Ruckman…Abbott.

      • BoyOBoy Wowee says:

well damn there goes that plan. Although Stanley still named in the team despite cats bringing in Abbott? Won't be getting Stanley now anyway, will probably go McGovern

  40. Richard says:

Who is the best option for my last forward spot. In an extremely tight elimination this week. Breust, Smith, Or Wingard. Cheers community

  41. Soothsayer says:

Please help me community, Josh Kelly or Zac Merrit in for my Tim Kelly midfield upgrade?

Great to see the community flourishing again for finals time!

  42. Stupid Coach says:

Greetings Community. Good luck to all those in finals. Unfortunately, I missed the finals in all my leagues. I have 3 trades to burn but looking to use only one this week. Only have 20k in the bank. Options:
    1) Ryan to H Shaw – have Hurley, Yeo, Hurn, T Mac and Laird.
    2) Nank to Witts or
    3) Buddy to a forward under $425k.

    Any advice much appreciated.

  43. Stacky23 says:

Ok 2 trades left, 300k and been dealt a huge blow with savage, higgins and de goey all missing, luckily no elimination finals this week
    Teams sits as
    Lloyd,Yeo,Simpson,Laird,Crisp,Savage, (murphy, riordan)
Mitchell, Cripps, Dangerfield, Kelly, Parker,Matin,Higgins,Rockliff (Giro,Ahern, mutch)
    Gawn,Martin
    Smith,Wallis,Mclean,Walters,Heeney,De goey (Fritsch,Dixon)
Is it worth a) Making no trades and accepting a loss this week
    b) Trading fritsch to macrae and fielding ahern and murphy, then assesing if de goey and savage return
c)fritsch to macrae and savage to anyone and pray de goey returns or risk fielding ahern with no bench cover for rest of the year

  44. Denik says:

Need to trade Taranto to either Smith, Wingard or Breust. Help community!!!!

  45. redherringfc says:

i’ve wanted to look it up for a while, but have been too scared.

I must have traded Zorko out at rd 7. Hopeless first few games, dropped to 400k. Worst trade since bringing in Shaw 10 minutes before he admitted to having a sly $10 on first goal scorer (pre reverse trades button)
