It’s been a long preseason. An incredibly long preseason. But WE ARE BACK. Finally.

Week one of season 2018 was a gnarly one for some, while others floated into 2300+ scores on the coat-tails of some incredible scoring from premos like Dusty, Titch and bloody Buddy Franklin.

Lekdog and Patch unpack all the action, all the injury history and give the first full-length segment of AFL 180 a whirl, joining Gerard, Robbo and Kingy for all the action on round one. We know the audio’s a bit rough, but thankfully it’s not as rough as Cam Bancroft’s sandpaper.

We also run through final changes to our sides and have a brief look at The Rookie Situation.

Strap yourself in, whack the headphones on and lean back as the wild ride that is Supercoach 2018 gets underway.

  1. Steeeve says:

Haven't had a chance to listen but can't wait, getting better every week!
We have two weeks to set our teams up for cash building. Trade wisely my friends.

  2. Gord29 says:

Love the work boys. My embarssing first round score of just under 1900 was rougher than Bancrofts sand paper. What people’s plans with Merret? Thinking of trading, either up to Oliver or down to Cripps

    • Sana says:

Like either of those options Gord. Cripps price probably tips the scale

      • Gord29 says:

Yea Cripps price is tempting me a lot. I could even go up to Mitchell. Just not confident with so many head knocks early in the season. Tempted to rage trade Zorko after putting the C on him

    • SC_Sixty6 says:

I prefer Parker, apart from his bye and how your team looks for that round. Parker in a genuine contender side. It's his up year!

    • The_Blacksheep says:

Considering Merret is more than likely playing this week, do you really need to trade him out?

      • Gord29 says:

Not a fan of the consistent head knocks and it’s early in the week so that 17 is burning

      • Jay says:

I agree. I'm holding to see if he's named.

      • Dean says:

I don't know why all this talk of trading Zerrit out after being concussed early in the game. There is a 50/50 or better chance that he plays this week and if so DO NOT trade him out.

        • Gord29 says:

I would normally never consider it but I’m looking at history of people coming back after concussion and that is the reason why I’m considering jumping off Merret

  3. Sana says:

    Tom Mitchell, you’re alright

  4. Maverick says:

Finished with 2200 not ideal but I’m content. Had some bad luck with libba and fielding wrong rookies but Look forward to making huge leaps n bounds up the standings over the nxt 6-8 weeks with so many not having danger & a lot look to be panic trading ‘keepers’ like Fyfe, zerrett or Zorko up to him after 1 bad game…. watch them all go top 8-10!

    • Locked and Loaded says:

Nothing wrong with that mate especially round 1 when it’s hard to know which rookies will be any good

    • LittleBill says:

Why are ppl banging on about the teams without Dangerfield. Thry have obviously planned ahead to get him in? worry about your own crap side and try catch up.

      • Maverick says:

Haha Take a few deep breaths Everything will be okay mate.

        • Bom Darry says:

Bizarre comment. He seems to be the one that is A-OK without having Danger while your original comment reaks of insecurity around your pretty average 1st round score. He's just saying instead of investing your emotional energy into hoping that people without Danger fail, maybe spend that energy on bettering your own score.

          • Maverick_ says:

I’m not at all hoping people without danger fail? I’m just saying so many people don’t have him and that’s fine if u have a plan to get him now or 6 weeks time. But panic trading out zerretts fyfes & zorkos isn’t a ‘plan’ to get danger. They will all average 110+. You have 30 trades I wouldn’t be doing that is all. Get coniglio save 200k and when he rises to 550-600k make the call then whether to use him to get danger… keep ya Uber’s & don’t panic. Your welcome

            • Bom Darry says:

Also, nobody without Danger is panicking. Why do you keep implying that? Seems like you're projecting.

  5. Des says:

Hey guys, some advice please, I took a risk on Rockliff it didn't pay off with his 55. Should I trade or hold?

    • Steeeve says:

He played forward a lot… wait and see if Gray returning pushes Rocky into the guts

    • Rusty says:

      Hold mate

    • SCdonkey says:

Give it another week, see how he goes this round. Then go sick with that trade butron before his price drops.

    • Theoriginalforce says:

He's an easy trade for danger after seeing how this week unfolds. If he goes huge not having danger isn't so bad yet…

  6. BadgerHoney7 says:

    Score: 2263
Franklin to Heeney late trade hurt, like really hurt. Nic Nat choice has been my best ever and whilst JOM didn't score a heap of points he definitely showed that he is going to be a potential star this year, Sicily choice was one that I'm also glad I made (gonna be a top 6 defender this year). Naughton was really dissapointing so he will be going to the bench for Finlayson. Tom Bell played a standout third quarter, did nothing other than that. No trades needed this week but next week am thinking of going Barry to Lachie Fogarty then get rid of Naughton sometime later. Am tempted to try and go Naughton to Bonner but probably don't have enough money in the kitty.

    • real talk says:

site wouldn't let me tell you how I really felt but flogily won't be a top 6 defender

    • Starkingdom says:

Hey Badger, not a bad score first round, you're definitely not the worst on this site. Heeney is a very good choice so don't sweat on that one, Franklin had a huge day out but if you've been watching him play over the years you know he'll have turd scores too.

I'm in the same boat re Sicily, I think he has top 6 defender written all over him. Nice one.

With the rookies, wait for the price bubble and re assess but I agree with you about Naughton, he might be the 2018 overpriced spud we fell into. Finlayson looks like a money maker so get him in if Naughton drops a turd this weekend.

Bonner is a beauty and will continue to improve with experience, those that don't currently have him will be sweating bullets trying to get him into their side. Another Port defender to watch is Dougal Howard who impressed on the weekend and reports are he'll share the ruck work while Ryder is out.

      • Lazza says:

Depends on your strategy as to whether Bonner is a must have. For example, at Bonner's price you can have two of Kelly, or Holman, or Doedee, or Murray … all will make more money for you than Bonner in their own right … having two of them will more than double your return. Chasing early points is not necessarily the key to the game.

        • simon says says:

Rookies are for cash gen. Bonner could be a top defender supplying big points all season.

          • Lazza says:

Big call after only 5 games of footy.. Plenty of March hero’s going around. But as I said it depends on your strategy … if you think he will go big and become a keeper then go for it ……. a keeper at that price is a steal.

        • Valens_FC says:

          Sound advice there Lazza.

      • BadgerHoney7 says:

Dougal opens up Bonners role as well, will track him closely this week

  7. James says:

    Hi Community,

Currently have Ryder at R1 but with his injury I'll be looking to move him on this week. What options do we think are best?

Really want Nic Nat but find it hard to persuade myself into picking him with so little game time.

    Would appreciate some help.

  8. BockChoy says:

2159 was OK, considering I took the 17 from Zerret and had Brayshaw onfield (against Holman and Finlayson on the bench).

Main concern is the risk I took with Deledio (44). I was also disappointed with Vlaustin's 54 but watching the replay, saw that he did play fairly well but gave away quite a few free kicks which hurt. I expect his scoring to increase going forward.

I did one late change – I was taking a punt on Angus Brayshaw but changed to Mills when he wasn't named. Happy with the 90 from Mills as he hardly scored in the first half.

    • Derek says:

Mills had Zero midfield time. So there is some upside.

He only started to score well when he was the loose man in defence. If he gets that role he should score a few more 90’s

  9. Finnius says:

I have paid for SC gold but the features aren't showing up. Is anyone else having the same problems?

    • Russty_ says:

Try logging out and then back in.

      • Maverick_ says:

I am having the same issue mate. Glad it’s not only me! Let me know how you rectify it finnius.

    • hedski says:

Pretty sure everyone has it until after round 2 for free Fin, so after that you won't get your green dots, match centre etc unless you pay/subscribe.

    • Wood says:

Strange. Everyone has SuperCoach Gold for Rounds 1 and 2

      • BrownlowBoy says:

I don't have gold either? I don't pay for it but I have lost mine? I thought we got it until the end of round 2?

        • hedski says:

Couple of blokes at work have lost their score predictor and breakevens too, they use the app.
Mine is still there, I go through the website (have a hs subscription).

  10. SC_Sixty6 says:

If anyone wants a hot tip on a VC because everyone will go danger regardless as C option. Get on Gawn, will pump a 170 at the Gabba. Loves interstate games and thrives against the better ruckman.

    • Captain Risky says:

Should be a bit aggro too after last week!

    • SCdonkey says:

Putting my VC on Kelly this week against the Pies. Bucks has too much pride to have someone to do a tagging role. If he does decide to have a tagger, who is he going to tag in GWS outfit. They have so much depth in the guts that a tagger will just give up and go down the race and won't come back out.

My C will be Oliver, no Rocky to do a bit of tagging, Robinson suspended. Oliver will go nuts this week.

Titch will get a lot of attention against the Cats this week. So a no for me

Fyfe will need to see a few good games this season for me to consider him as a VC C option.

      • Derek says:

My problem with Kelly is what happened last week. He was 85 at half time and finish less than 120.

This Was my frustration with SMitch, he would be rested when the game was won and instead of junking up a 150, he would take an easy 115.

        • SCdonkey says:

Oh! You noticed what i noticed. I said that to myself, Cogs, whitfield and Shaw might have not scored that well if Kelly actually play 100% and not rested.

          • Derek says:

Shaw is the junk time king. He went close to 50pts in the last quarter.

      • SC_Sixty6 says:

No love for danger? If danger plays I predict a 125 minimum. Also ablett scores very very very well against hawks for whom has him.

        • SCdonkey says:

I don't have Danger so i can't have him as my VC C option

Other Option for me are Gawn, Cripps and Laird.

    • DacZawson says:

Could be the round for VC ruck options. Goldy against a very poor St Kilda ruck brigade on Good Friday could also go very large on a smaller Etihad ground.

    • Starkingdom says:

I'm pretty sure Zorko will belt out a beauty this week.

  11. SCdonkey says:

Thought about this real hard last night, while i was trying to trade out Ryder about a thousand times.

Holding trades this week($271K in the bank), keep Ryder until i have a good look of who will be the top 3 Ruck this season. Just run with Gawn English and Cox for the meantime.
Will see how Rocky goes this week, Gray should be back this week hopefully Rocky spends more in the mid. Port will be shuffling players around the likes of Hoff, Dixon, Howard or they might bring in a debutant. If Rocky doesn't improve this week, out he goes for Danger before his price drops. This week should give me a good look at how Danger will go with that hammy niggle and play a long side Gaz.

Bonner is the only cash cow I'm missing, will see if he has another good game this week. If he does, then Ryder will have to go before the price rise and bank the extra cash of around $400K. With that amount of cash should set me up to go bang! bang! Premos(Keepers) upgrade by round 5 and 6 with help of rookies that's ready for culling.

    • Derek says:

Regards your ruck, the best thing is to trade in the ruckman who will be in the top 2 or 3 for the year. There lies the problem and why I started Lycett, you don’t know who that will be. Every year there is a changing of the guard. You need a few weeks to assess who is playing well, who has a second ruck in the field with them etc.

The fact that English played well on the weekend means his JS is good.

English next 3 opponents in ruck look fairly weak, he should do well. However from week 5 onward he has 7 weeks of hell!

3 weeks might be all you need from him to decide who your season R2 will be.

      Don’t underestimate Witts or TBC

      • SCdonkey says:

Agree with ya mate. I'm not in hurry to pick anyone in the Ruck such a hard position to pick and unpredictable. I'm happy to run with Gawn English and Cox for the time being. And boost other positions to cover lost points in the Ruck.

I mentioned TBC as a good option the other day and Witts yeah, he looks to be replicating his form from 2017 this year. NicNat looked awesome on the weekend. I will decide in few weeks Cox will reamin in my team as my stepping stone.

        • Derek says:

NicNat looked really good against a pretty weak opponent who had no ruck support.

He has English this week. Even Lycett should score ok against.

NicNat will have another massive score and everyone will select him.

After that he has ZSmith, Witts, Kruzer and Sandilands. We’ll see how awesome that knee is then.

          • JugHead says:

There is quite a bit of luck with injuries selecting a ruck. I didn't have the guts to go with Kreuz last year purely on his injury record. So you go with one who you think has a bit of durability (Ryder) and get bitten on the arse anyway.
For that reason, I think English looks a perfect R3.
As a Geelong fan I still remember the Cats wrapping Brad Ottens in bubble wrap every year and standing him in the change rooms with a sign "do not unwrap until July"

  12. John says:

One guy in one of my leagues scored 2460+ change… and he is still only between 350th and 400th.

    Bloody disheartening…

    • Sana says:

      Early days John

    • redherringfc says:

One guy in my league scored 1850 odd.

It’s a shame it was me.

At least from here on I’ll climb in the overall ranks every single week.

    • Starkingdom says:

Yep and I thought I would be in the top 1% with 2350 odd but found myself in the top 3%. A lot of massive scores.

On a brighter note the league I set up is sitting 95th out of 23,600 ish. All of the players are from this site, well done everyone involved, let's keep it up.

  13. John says:

I got suckked in about the "new midfield role" for L McDonald and selected him.

Can anyone think of a reason why I shouldn't rage trade him to Lloyd or the much maligned Heater?

    • DacZawson says:

The reason is that it's round 1. Wait a week.

    • TRIGGA_HAPPY says:

      He played in a lake

    • BrownlowBoy says:

Don't trade him, he has a good haircut…

He's trash, get rid of him when you can. Probably wait a week and see if he can turn it around.

  14. EasyMoneySniper says:

Hey community, i'm not sure if i want to do this, but i might have to move merrett on, after round 2. The head knocks are slightly concerning and we never know when it could happen again, and if it does happen again, the dons will be even more cautious with it. I have 30k +Merrett's price, should i go Clayton or crouch, or skim some more money and be safe and get dusty?

    • Mystic Mac says:

Reports are he's very likely to play this week. Adding to this the Dons Football Manager said "Aside from the weekend a couple of incidents we had were head knocks, but they weren’t concussions".
      Food for thought.

    • Derek says:

he will play. Do well. Poor score only in his price adjustment for 1 week. Keep him

      • Beast says:

I'm sideways trading him to Dangerfield. Then in a few weeks I'm going to pick up Merrett again when his price depreciates and trade a rookie for him.

        • Derek says:

you do know we only have 30 trades for the Whole season?

        • Multi_ says:

Then at the end of the year cry in the corner when you have no trades left and injuries or Ross decides to rest half the team. Crazy

  15. GSAL says:

2145 with Libba on the ground and the wrong rookies but it is what it is.

Who should I trade Libba with

    Libba – Coniglio
    Libba – Parker
    Libba – Acres

I think Coniglio is my best bet but worried the Kelly might take some points away from him.

Or is there any other suggestions?

  16. jordanandeddie says:

wow, Robbo's Supercoach knowledge has actually improved.

  17. TheGreatBozza says:

Pulled out 2300+ but I was still disappointed. Had Titchell & Dusty paper over some cracks. I brought in Cox as Krooz cover which has backfired amazingly. Do I offload Cox to English to cover Krooz this week? Or Krooz down to Nic Nat. I'm hoping Krooz gets up this week and I can hold fire on any trades

    • SCdonkey says:

As a Cox owner, i warned someone to not get Cox if they didn't have any plan in placed. If you have Cox in fwd keep him in the bench for now, but if he's your R3 I would pull the trigger and shoot Cox for English. As for Kreuzer wait until we have a good info on how long he'll be out, may even play this week decide then.

      • TheGreatBozza says:

A week suspension or injury was worst case scenario. I was pretty confident he’d get a good run at it without being dropped, which is why I brought him in to cover a potential Kreuzer out. He scored 44 in a game he was hopeless. It could have been much much worse. Cox is my F5 with a swing with a loophole DPP R3.

My week depends on how Kreuzer pulls up

        • Rabbits16 says:

same on kreuzer for wit and see if his pee pee is ok. tim english? will he score every week like this?

        • LUKE says:

Cox are always getting in the way of things

        • Russty_ says:

English could come out this week and score a 30..never know, Cox should spend his week off watching videos on how to mark a footy, and play footy in general, I'd get rid of Cox regardless but you have to sweat on Kreuz getting up this week first before you decide whether it's this week or next.

  18. Phil says:

I am considering Libba to Taranto to save on a bit of coin. With Whitfield playing half back could this be Taranto's benefit for time in the guts. The club were pretty hot on him when they drafted him. My only concern is if and when the likes of Hopper come back will his job security and midfield minutes suffer.

    • Derek says:

Hopper will be back, probably this week

    • Bells says:

Taranto looked bloody good. He'll stay in the team.

    • Starkingdom says:

GWS had an easy kill and will probably do the same this week. They are a very strong team so will help mid priced players improve. I think Whitfield will go to another level playing off half back this season, when teams start challenging.

    • Valens_FC says:

First time I’ve seen Taranto mentioned which I find amazing amid the selections of Armo, JOM, Bell, Bundy etc. He was on 100+ run rate through JLT (but never mentioned as SC relevant in write ups on this site), got 100 in round 1 with 13 CPs, has DPP and playing in a strong team where oppo attention will be on others. Great selection for mine.

  19. Maverick_ says:

I absolutely love this website and prefer it over many others out there I’m glad to say I’m on board with a proper account and shall be a regular on here for the season!

Now on to my issue of libba (M6)
option 1: trade down to graham, armo or JOM Bank $100K+
Option 2: swing in Garlett play a light midfield and get sicily/curnow up fwd. play kelly onfield bench Garlett.
Option 3: swing in finlayson & grab Sicily/marchbank.

Current midfield: danger, titch, Oliver, Fyfe, cognilio, libba**, brayshaw & Holman (kelly Barry banfield)

    • GloryDays90 says:

Option 2 for me. MID you can afford to play another rookie like Kelly.

    • TheScacman says:

Wouldn't hurt to bring in Graham, will make easy 100K over the next 4 weeks or so, plus has very good job security and plays a role where he'll kick a couple most weeks and get some hands on the footy. If Kelly's on your bench, he's making you good money, and as good as he's looked, wouldn't pick him to hit 100+ most weeks

    • Jonesy says:

Option 2. grab sicily. IMO he will be a keeper don't burn a trade to another stepping stone to have to trade him again at the byes!

    • Derek says:

get any rookie that you missed first round.

      • Maverick_ says:

Libba down to a rookie you reckon!? Gee that’s ballsy Derek. Only really missed L.fogarty. But his JS is a worry. Rayner Dow LDU Clarke Stephenson aren’t worthy of there inflated prices imo.

        • Derek says:

thats good. If you didn't miss any, go to next plan.

are there any keepers you can get? what cash do you have?

          • Maverick_ says:

            I’ve only got 50k.
            1. I can swing finlayson to the guts and get sicily D3
            2. Swing Garlett into the guts & take sicily/curnow up fwd.
            3. Or get JOM/armo/ graham in the guts but like Jonesy mentioned below they will be another trade but are going to make some cash. But enough to warrant 2 trades, unlikely

            My team as stands-
Def: laird hibberd bonner doedee finlayson Murray (naughton murphy)

Mid : danger titch oliver Fyfe coniglio libba** brayshaw Holman (kelly banfied barry)

            Ruck : Gawn goldy (olango)

Fwd: heeney lambert McLean smith lobb fritsch (Garlett ZGL)

            • Derek says:

              solid team. shame about Libba.

              you already got Bonnar.

Is there anyone at that $484k price you like and you think is a keeper?

I'm not a big fan of either Curnow or Sicily, i prefer the 'fallen premium' midpricers. Barlow 'uge POD, or Shaw, are the two who stand out for me, but you might not like old slow guys

            • Starkingdom says:

              Team looks good.

Option 2 best. Curnow could be anything, he's a star in the making. The bonus is you get to see him play this week before deciding!

Sicily looks like a top 6 defender as he is now in the perfect role. He definitely has the ability and uses the ball wisely but the flog in him might see him sitting out for a few weeks due to suspension.

  20. Russ says:

Hi guys – were there game by game reviews of round 1 at all?

  21. Stirlsy says:

After a bullish start, im making 1 trade Mitch I need to hit someone Robinson to Saint beauty Billings, he looks like a top 10 FWD and the way I ended up setting Team up after the rolling lockout for round 1 I ended up going from having 50k to 149k in the bank mainly because I had a couple of suspect picks NicNat being the main one I just needed to see him in the big stuff to make sure so left that cash sitting in bank,
Now I have the scope to take what I think will be a keeper "Billings" looked good in round 1 Saints have had big raps on him since he got there avg 92.7 last year his now 22 23 later in year he looks primed to lift his avg to me and only has to raise his avg 5pts to be in contention for top 6 FWD.
I know its only round 1 but this trade looks the right thing to do im happy with my rookies it still leaves me 46k in bank why not move now on it……
    Thoughts community.

    • SCdonkey says:

Personally I'd wait a week, if you have all the rooks covered. This round i have Ryder injured, Cox suspended will hold any trades this week and assess my options next week. 1 game doesn't give you much of indication on how well/good the player will go this year and anything can happen injuries is our enemy. Save the trade this week.

  22. TheScacman says:

Ended up with a very respectable 2343.

Gospel advice: corrective trading this week should only happen if you've got a player injured for 2+ weeks. Don't go chasing last wee's points i.e. Acres unless they back that up this week. The rule follows for not flicking premiums. Fyfe will bounce back, Hibberd will be a top 6 defender come seasons end.

Have some faith in your selections gentlemen. Rookies to look at if you havent jumped on are as follows: Finlayson (SC point scoring role around the ground), Kelly (if you havent jumped on him, you're a pretender), S Murray (will provide run out of the backline and can hit a target).

    That is all

    • KSinny says:

      Amen! πŸ™

    • EasyMoneySniper says:

Well said Scacman, it is very easy to lose sanity when things don't go as you thought they would in round 1!

    • SC_Sixty6 says:

If you didn't START with those rookies your wasting your time.

The 2 week plus injury trade you speak of doesn't apply if you don't have cover i.e. ruck.

      • TheScacman says:

2 week rule for premiums is generally the rule of thumb, but yes, when you've got cover that rule can go out the window

    • Rabbits16 says:

good reminder. thoughts on curnow & bonner?

      • TheScacman says:

Pulled the plug on Curnow for Devon Smith right before lockout. Can 100% see him breaking out and having monster games like what we saw on the weekend, but wont score 5 every week. Has all the hallmarks of a future gun. Bonner will hopefully find his way into my team before his price hike, potentially at the expense of an Allen Christiansen downgrade, but wanting to see some regularity with his scoring before I lock him in

  23. midpriced madnez says:

I am going to trade Lycett > Nic-nat.

No point wasting time and points when all I see is 50s and 60s coming from Lycett.

    Nicnat looked very good..

    • ZerrettForPM says:

watch nic nat get injured this round

    • paul says:

I am waiting with Nic nat It was a big injury .Looking at English tho if he gets another score of 80 or more he may be consistent therefore a switch from Lycett to English could be a good move. Money back with the change over plus a average of 80 is all a wanted from Lycett anyway.English will make money plus the money increase will be a lot more than Nic nat's increase in price. It's just the difference in SC points Nic nat is really under done so to bring him in after a few weeks may be a good strategy.

    • Starkingdom says:

Mate if he stays fit he could go to another level. Well worth planning around him if you have Ryder or Kruez.

      • Starkingdom says:

Just rechecked his stats, amazing 1.7 ppm!! that's insane uber premium level. I hope he stays fit, could be a monster year for scores.

        • Derek says:

Who did he play against. Don’t get carried away. Sinclair as a solo ruck is no real challenge.

          • pod says:

Derek you quite often get 'carried away' with advice such as crap rucks and players like christenson, and mcartin from the saints. At least we know nic nat has ability, could be a star this year if injury free.

  24. Rabbits16 says:

bloody beautiful rd 1. 2300 on the button with buddy boy going huuuuuge. $355k in bank nice lil coffer too. whats people doing with FYFE!? wait and see?

    • DacZawson says:

Holding him for the rest of the season until I see a reason to do otherwise

      • Rabbits16 says:

yeh true. just at the moment was thinking to upgrade him to dangerfield as id prefer to hold my M5,6,7,8 coniglio, kelly, holman, finlayson etc until they appreciate. i might hold off on dangerfield for a few weeks more see if danger is 100% fit and see if fyfey boy can bounce back

  25. Bells says:

Great podcast until 19:39 – then it went down the S bend. Community I did not follow it.
From the god awful intro gui-tar, to the blokey bell-end on a crap phone line whoever those blokes were' they can GET STUFFED!
Still if we get 20 minutes of pod, that's better than nawt. Thanks Lek and Patch.

    • BendOver&Coffield says:

I agree, rather keep it short and sweet then ever listen to 180 again…..

    • Lekdog says:

Hey mate, was it the content or the cooked audio?

      • hedski says:

Audio was a bit cooked Lek but that can be corrected, I reckon 180 seconds for 180 not 10 minutes. No complaints with the rest of the pod tho. Keep it up, doin well, gotta try new stuff while you and Patch get your groove on πŸ‘πŸΊ

        • Daisy says:

I love this podcast every week but that 180 rubbish has to go. If you must do it for some reason, agree with hedski, maybe 2 minutes at best. It had absolutely no SC relevance and wasn't funny one bit!
Keep up the other good work though!

  26. Rabbits16 says:

any reason M O'Connor didnt play. he had the green light?

    • Northerner says:

I thought I saw a report on an ankle. Must have picked it up last training run

      • Derek says:

he hurt his ankle at training. he has been running ok this week, but is there a place for him. i have him on bench so hoping he gets a few games.

        • dontblushbaby says:

Yep , I kept him ,DPP will be relevant also

          • Derek says:

he will handy with the DPP. will allow to trade anyone from other lines (with garlett in mids) to Bonnar if needed

he looks a good player. when he plays he will do good

    • Lekdog says:

  27. AB13 says:

After 5 years away from any form of fantasy game and with only 1 weeks preparation I'm back with a first up 2108.

Shoutouts to the great work by Laird, Sicily, Martin, Titch, Coniglio, Oliver, Gawn, Smith, Petracca and Heeney. Also huge shoutout to not only the writers, but all the commenters who helped me get back started.

    Now, the issues …

    – Hibberd, I picked him as a premo so will bear with his score hoping its a one off. Also I've got many other fires to put out.

    – Rockliff, the pig, Huge disappointment was an absolute gun fantasy player in days gone by. Keep or trade?

    – Naughton, hoped for more and the doggies are stinking it up so I am quite keen to ship him off for a bit of a more likely cash cow.

    – Merrett, I'd like to keep him, but to have had 3 head knocks this year is quite serious. Apparently Essendon probably will play him this week. If they dont do I trade him out? (and for whom?) or Bench him, play Holman hoping Merrett comes back next week?

    – Ryder, After Brayshaw was dropped decided to go a rookie in Defence to bring Paddy into the ruck. Clearly his citizens arresting stuffed his achilles so now I need a replacement. Any ideas, thinking Nic Nat but concerned with his lack of footy and the fact he may need a rest

    – Fogarty, Rayner, Naughton, Brayshaw (FRE) on the ground with Holman, Stephenson and Fritsch all on the bench outperforming them. Should I be looking to swap prior to price increases or should I hold?

Also currently got 17K in the bank

    Thanks in advance,

    • BockChoy says:

Rockliff's pattern is usually something like a series of huge scores followed by shoulders going pop!

      • AB13 says:

        Who's your alternative for Rockliff?

        • Swans2012 says:

Coniglio (1st option if you don't have him), Parker, cripps around same price point, id give him another week though! Rockliff that is…

          • Derek says:

Rocky had limited pre season. On the weekend his TOG was down and he was in forward line a lot. That will all change with Robbie back and Rocky getting game time.

        • BockChoy says:

At that price point, I'd likely pass. Maybe cough up an extra $20k for Parker.

    • Starkingdom says:

Hibberd might not have the same output this season with the addition of Jake Kelly. I'm steering clear for now but he's not entirely out of the question.

Agree with BockChoy about Rockliff. No thanks. Merrett is a keeper and will play if the Bombers want to make finals.

Hold rookies until next week and of course put Holman on the park.

    • Lekdog says:

Pick one of Stef, Goldy or NicNat for Ryder…NicNat allows for upgrades of rookies etc next week.
      Hold everyone else I reckon

  28. Jim_bob321 says:

Trade Naughton to Bonner this round or next round?

    • GloryDays90 says:

Wait till next! Don't use trades first round unless you have injuries.

    • Derek says:

Me thinks the the swans might not let young Bonnar get too many kicks next sunday afternoon.

      • dontblushbaby says:

agree, holding Naughton, no trades this week , no injury issues

  29. EasyMoneySniper says:

Hey Community, I was of the sorry souls that started with christensen…. Do we reckon he can get much better or am i best to off load him next week to a stephenson?????

    • Bom Darry says:

he did fine. It's round 1 and at his price you just need him to score between 5-70 to make 100k by the byes

    • Derek says:

he did ok. i'd be happy holding him.

  30. Big G says:

What are people doing with the Kruez?

    • Ja191 says:

Seeing whether he plays looks 50/50

    • Lazza says:

Tough call … groins injuries are difficult to overcome without rest … I didn't pick him because of his injury history. Actually, having Gawn in my team, I was hesitant to take a risk, so I bypassed a few RUCs for this reason and decided to take the safe bet with Nank who is durable and improving. He will knock out a few 100s and will safely average above his start price. If my trades are travelling well by the bye rounds I will trade up to the top premo at that time.

      • Tuna says:

Me too. Hopefully we are right. Plan to upgrade Nank at his bye if necessary.

    • Derek says:

it looks like he might play. i'm not so sure. they have Lobbe

  31. Mike says:

Is sicily a must. Should i trade out mcgovern for him

  32. Marty says:

I don't have English and also want to get Bonner. Is it a silly move to go Brayshaw to Barry and Naughton to Bonner in order to get English next week and use three trades overall? If I don't I will miss out on a ruck backup (yes I considered it before rd 1 but doh!). Thoughts?

    • Derek says:

      you are thinking too much.

do nothing this week. have another look at all of them, including Bonnar. and make a trade next week.

Me thinks the the swans might not let young Bonnar get too many kicks next sunday afternoon.

      • BrownlowBoy says:

They will make him accountable no doubt. Might see Hewett or something head to him potentially?

        • Ricardo says:

Sydney won't put too much time into Bonner. Port got some other serious players they need to worry about.

      • Marty says:

Your logic tells me you're right Derek but around the 4k mark overall and need to make ground

        • Derek says:

          that rank is great.

Bonnar might be one of those players you just let go. At $257k he isn't that cheap. Unless he scores another 100+ against a team like the swans, then we know we might have a player.

make sure you have all the good cheap rookies that will make you heaps of cash first. then hold your trades.

          • Marty says:

Cheers Derek. I have all the right rookies just worried about not getting English and Naughton stinking it up.

            • Derek says:

Guys like Naughton you just have to hold. If they keep getting games all you want is ONE big game from them. Get a couple of good price rises and move them on. You just stuck with him.

English is a good F6 option. Covers the rucks via a rookie DPP at R3. If you don’t have the DPP at R3 already, you have to put English at R3. Wasted trade bringing him in just for ruck cover only.

              • Marty says:

                Team is:
Laird Mills Sicily Naughton Doedee Finlayson (Murray MurphyL)
Martin Mitchell Kelly J Crouch Fyfe OMeara Kelly T Holman (Brayshaw Garlett Banfield)
                Gawn Martin (Olanga)
Heeney Billings McLean Smith Lobb Fritsch (Waterman Langdon Z)

Only have 27k so can't get English unless I downgrade Brayshaw. Olanga is just there as a floating donut

                • Marty says:

Omeara will end up Danger unless a forward mid underperforms and a forward rookie looks good which is not happening presently.

                • Swans2012 says:

Wait for team sheets, Langdon or waterman out could = english

    • Swans2012 says:

Personally I plan around using 3 trades In The first 2 rounds, i didn't like what I saw from bell so I think I'll cut my losses there to fund a Bonner/lobb/Sicily move next week. I don't think he is what I thought he was but I've been wrong before. Also allows me to correct any of my midpricers next week if need be. Already have English but I'll open up a swing loopholer with the bell trade to that cheap port r/f letting English be a cheap 70 average f6 hopefully for a month or two (but if you don't have him he's a bring in next week for mine). Brayshaw needs another weeks assessment so you can't chop him yet though, there's always a rookie that goes average first up then blows it apart. English I think could be one of the better rookies and might be worth the trade, as could be Bonner. Decisions decisions…. gotta remember that the price freeze on rounds one and two is a once a season only gift… I like to use it….just my opinion though…

      • Flaccid Jaff says:

I do the same mate. Spend the trades to make your team good by rd 3 then sit and watch till the byes i reckon. I'm hoping naughton is dropped so i can guilt free upgrade to bonner.

  33. CrouchPotatoes says:

Should I trade Coffield to Bonner? Already have Doedee, Finlayson and Murray

    • Starkingdom says:

I reckon you should hold Coffield. Hunter Clark wasn't flash so could be a swap for the Saints. Paddy McCartin was very ordinary, could be dropped.

    • Derek says:

Do you have the cash for one trade.

If Coffield not named this week, I would make that trade

    • Flaccid Jaff says:

If hes not named again then yes. You might need 2 trades next week. Bonner wont do as well against the swans but he looks like spitting out 75-100 for a while. With coffields price, js and scoring potential, he won't make as much cash

  34. Marty says:

Why did you start with Coffield when he wasn't named?

  35. GAZ says:

  36. paul says:

There is one more to think about Zach Guthrie 196 and 85 points. Thats the thoughts on Zach

    • Fearthebeard says:

I raised him before. Was toying with him for Naughton. Still toying with that trade this week.

As others said Naughton could score 70 this week and all’s forgiven.

Though I’m looking at potentially another trade next week to get danger in if he’s fit and shows it this week and might want to cull another underperforming rookie that’s 198k to Fogarty if he delivers with danger back to!

    • Starkingdom says:

He's definitely put on some size. Another young defender to keep an eye on.

    • Moustachio says:

Zuthrie nice pick, reckon wait and see out of he and Bonner this week.

  37. Canny says:

Oh Alexi… I was saying the same thing about Simpson, why oh why did I trade him out? 😒

  38. Luke says:

Flick the AFL 180 segment lads stick to your SuperCoach advice its good!

    • Brian says:

Agree with Luke boys. SuperCoach knowledge and info is what ye are good at. Humour is not unfortunately.

    • Lekdog says:

Was it the content or that you couldn’t hear the superb voices?

      • SCdonkey says:

Both. Sorry to say Lekdog 2mins into the segment fast forward it to the last 5mins of the podcast.

      • belly button fluff says:

Oh look Guys. They have to start somewhere and I like their little bits of fun. Of course they are not as polished as the Jock crew. I think they know that. We can't let it be too boring let them have fun making it. If they don't enjoy what they are doing they may not keep going. Keep going guys has fun!!

    • Borko says:

Tend to agree … sound was average but I would rather hear SC insights. I tune in to get ideas and check my plans leading in to next week. You guys are more funny being yourselves I reckon … keep up the good work!

    • TOPHAWK1 says:

Agreed. That segment was about as funny as a fart in an elevator! Gee wizz. Why not try a Crouching one impersonator, now that could be funny.

  39. Bom Darry says:

This podcast has just gone downhill..big time.

  40. Will says:

Had 150k left from last round, should i trade keeffe (bench) to bonner this week or hold?

    • Starkingdom says:

Depends, what other defenders are in your team? Bonner and Howard are options, but Bonner better. Is Keeffe is in your team to swing with Sicily? Might be worth keeping him for that reason.

    • AuroraBorealis?! says:

I'd hold this week, Bonner could just be a flash in the pan and just remember that Pittard is still to come back into the squad. Keep a close eye on him vs sydney though.

    • Shake_n_Bake_ says:

Just go for it! U might have two other corrective trades the week after. Keeffe wont play this week.

  41. dontblushbaby says:

Jack Graham, unfortunately mid only @ 269k, but huge upside for a stepping, probs should have picked in my starting team at M7

  42. Rhys says:

Blake Acres vs Jack Steele for supercoach draft forward line?

Acres had a big first game but I'm not sure if he will be consistent or keep it up, any thoughts?

  43. Steeeve says:

Anyone else have the following rookies and worried they will be dropped, stifling our cash generation?
    D Fogarty
    L Murphy
Any chance they hold their spots?

  44. Finnius says:

Boys I currently don't have a rookie loophole in my side (brought in Tim English when I saw Kreuzer went down for cover this week). I traded Brodie to Hunter Clarke who gave me a really ordinary 40 – would you be trading him down to a 102k, dpp mid non playing rookie?

I feel like the loophole is worth more than the 100k that Clarke would make me, or should I leave it one more week to see if someone like Murphy (crows) gets dropped? Leaves me exxactly the right amount of money to go Naughton to Bonner as well…

    • LUKE says:

    • Derek says:

I don’t think Murphy will get a game this week

    • Russty_ says:

Could always do it the ole fashioned way Finn, just pick the captain you believe in the most.

    • Juzzy says:

In the same situation Finnius re Kruez, English and no loop.
I am holding under the assumption that a loop or two will appear as some of the rooks get sent back to the 2nds.
If Kruez doesn't get up this week you can still VC the likes of Dusty, Laird, Crouch etc.

      • Big G says:

Don't lose faith in this Murphy fella yet. Remember Shane Warne's first Test match?

  45. Flaccid Jaff says:

Is cox a failure? I heard his 47 was generous. I assumed english would continue to score 20s and play 4 games a seasonbut in a flogging he did ok. I didn't see the game, what role did he play? If he can keep his spot he's deffinitley worth the trade down yeah?

    • Russty_ says:

English seemed to be giving everything a really good crack, he's put on some muscle, did some good things around the ground, more than can be said for Cox who looked like a Mummy someone just dug up from the sewer of a Pyramid, and it still had bandages over it's face, couldn't take a mark, was slow as fk, and to top it off, elbows a guy in the head on purpose.

    • Sheila says:

      Cox has been exposed
Unfortunately under pressure he explodes which makes his position a sticky Situation
He may be stiff to miss
He can be rubbed up the wrong way
Due to his large size he is suited to playing in the back pocket

    • Moustachio says:

He was even more pathetic than last year. He is completely shit at football. He will go far under Bucks.

  46. Benchwarmer says:

Hey folks – will the Cheat Sheet be making a comeback for this season?

    • Dice says:

Hope so bench….and then send it over to south africa

      • pod says:

ha good one! I'm a little puzzled at the constant blah blah all over the media about the ball tamp incident, are people dumb thinking this is an isolated event!? Dean Jones is spot on.

  47. Snakebaker says:

North are building a dynasty team that will shit over the past two premiers (sorry I have to fart when I mention them)
    Look out
Come visit me on bigfooty – I am a legend on that page and my word is gospel

    • Tralist says:

      Dream on

    • Goose says:

Legends don't need to tell everyone they are a legend.
Sounds like your trying to convince yourself you are one. Good luck with that boy

    • Lazza says:

Well by the time that dynasty arrives those who played and won the last two flags will be forty years old … so I guess they should sh1t all over them … if they could be bothered travelling to the Roos home ground in Shanghai…..

    • Russty_ says:

      North Narrabeen Boardriders?

  48. Snakebaker says:

I only bothered with a generic membership this year.

If I am denied access, because some Greenie hipster campaigner found out some k3wl way to manipulate membership packages to milk more money out of supporters, then it will be the last time I ever buy a membership. I'm probably not going to renew next year as it is.

    • Jason says:

Why do you need a membership if your the "Greenie hipster campaigner" as you don't need to buy one

  49. Snakebaker says:

    i Just farted

  50. Moustachio says:

Appreciate your efforts Lek and Patch… The AFL180 felt like it could prolly be about 10 minutes shorter tho. Keep up the good work fellas thanks fellas.

  51. Juzzy says:

Quick message regarding the posters above who are not enjoying the podcast.

The podcast still plays an important part in my routine in that it is one of only a few times during the week when the missus knows not to bug me for a while. When she asks "Are you listening to Jock Reynolds ?" and I reply "Yeah, I am listening to the Jock Reynolds podcast" I am not technically lying and the universe remains balanced.

Keep up the good work fellas.

    • belly button fluff says:

Like the sentiments Juzzy. I agree. I would love to see the complainers do a show so we can all vote on who is doing it better. Keep it up fellas. Would be sad to loose it all together.

      • Luke says:

I don’t think anyone wants the podcast to end fellas. Lek and Patch ask for feedback so they can improve the show and give the listeners what they want. It’s constructive feedback from my part not just kicking then while their down. Bloody hard following Jock and the lads but the only way to improve is to make mistakes and learn from them!

  52. Doc_1 says:

Am behind the eightball due to Zerret, Ryder, Naughton and plenty of points upon my pine.

I have English at R3 already. Am I mad using him to cover Ryder for 5-6 weeks and holding Ryder/saving a trade? – particularly with 1 of his missed weeks prior to league contests starting. Or should I just be biting the bullet now and bringing in Nic Nat??

Have been burnt before going through trades too quickly.

  53. Juzzy says:

    G'Day Doc.
English looked good on the weekend but don't forget it was only his 3rd game and in his first 2 scored 37 and 33. He might be good cover for a short term injury (and some handy cash) but I wouldn't want him onfield every week. If Ryder is 6 weeks that puts him out for rounds 2-7. Round 9 Port play in China. It is possible he might not be back until after the round 10 bye.
Nic Nat (if he stays on the park) should comfortably average 30-40 points per game more than English. I would bite that bullet.

    Good Luck.

  54. Jimm says:

    Hi guys,

Why is it that some of the articles/podcasts don't go on the home page of the site? Or go on hours later

    • Refresh Genie says:

I've found that you need to force cache refresh the site to bring up the latest articles. CTRL F5

  55. Jimm says:

    you are a genius freshie!

  56. Ange skoko says:

2338 only disappointement n.wilson freo, will hold for another week
    Whats your thoughts

  57. BVB21 says:

D – Laird, Savage, Sicily, Murray, Finlayson, Doedee (O’Connor, L. Murphy)

M – Dusty, Titch, M.Crouch, Fyfe, Cripps, Parker, T.Kelly, Holman (L.Fogarty, Barry, Banfield)

    R – Gawn, Nankervis (Olango)

    F – Billings, Lambert, Maclean, D.Smith, Lobb, Fritsch (L.Ryan, Giles-Langdon)

Pretty happy with the week. Only mistake was having Banfield on field instead of Kelly.

Thinking of Not doing any trades this week but if some players aren’t named this week (L.Murphy/Barry etc) should I trade them

Or is it worth bringing in English as I have a loophole with O’Connor or a dropped player?

Off to a good start but don’t want to get left behind.

I have finished in top 20 in dreamteam twice but can’t seem to close one of these comps out

  58. CAREEM - CAR says:

really informative work admin, keep it up and thanks for sharing this great work with us

  59. Mike C says:

    Need your help community…
So I think I did a stupid: I picked Savage, Lambert, but am really wondering whether I should have just locked in Simpson, Greene, I have the extra cash. Am I panicking too early making these as 'corrective trades'?

    • Russty_ says:

Giday Mike, you can afford to wait a week as prices don't go up until after round 3, Savage and Lambert could easily ton up this week.
Unless you really want those guys this week, but you could regret it, when you're low towards the pointy end, a lot of the trades we do out of the 30 are forced and not by choice, last year was carnage for injuries.
Most guys on here will say don't trade round 1 unless you absolutely have to. Cheers.

      • Mike c says:

Thanks Rusty, ok, sense has prevailed, I've hit the 'reverse trades' button and kept my 30 trades πŸ˜‚

  60. Rushy85 says:

Just hurry up and bring back the "Great Man" Jock Reynolds, Higgo and Crouching one!
