  1. Greg says:

What are your guys thoughts on jack Steele and is having omeara beams swallow Sandilands Roughead and Steele too much in one team

  2. Super_bj says:

Wowza!! I am more excited than Santa on boxing day

  3. Sana says:

Talk to me Jock, feed me the wisdoms!

    • kangasnm says:

Jock and fellas – talk to me about the no 3rd man up rule. Does this mean that the Premo rucks Gawn and Goldy will kick absolute butt this year and finish #1&2 in the whole shebang??? Has the scoring system been adjusted for this fact?? Should we load up on the Rucks???

  4. King says:

Not sold on Steele, the rest are popular so won't hurt you as much if they go down I guess. Can someone remind me when Sunday team benches get finalised? Late Friday, early Friday, Saturday morning??? Completely forgotten.

  5. Harvey says:

    Thoughts lads?

DEF: Doc, Shaw, Laird, Hampton, EVW, Stewart (Long and Otten)
MID: Danger, Pendles, JPK, Bont, Fyfe, Beams, O'Meara, SPP (Barrett, Hibberd and Parfitt)
    RUC: Gawn and Sandi (Strnadica)
FWD: Roo, Dahl, Roughy, Taranto, Bowes, Eddy (Black and Pickett)

    Cheers.

  6. Marcus says:

hey guys any leagues i can join??

  7. jezza says:

Would love to get some thoughts on this structure. Pretty close to locking this in, not sold on Steele though.

DEF: Shaw, Adams, Laird, Marchbank, Hampton, Vickers-Willis (Stewart, Otten)

MID: Dangerfield, Kennedy, Treloar, Fyfe, T. Mitchell, Beams, Taranto, Powell-Pepper (Barrett, Hibberd, Parfitt)

    RUCK: Grundy, Sandilands (Strnadica)

FWD: Dahlhaus, Lynch, Gunston, Steele, Turner, Pickett (Miles, Eddy)

    • Kev says:

Steele has trap written all over him imo. Dump him, shift Taranto forward and grab another mid

    • Beady Eye says:

Go with your gut but keep 20K up your sleeve – easy swap to Roughy if Steele spuds it up.

    • MarcoPolo says:

Watch out for Gunston. Not sure if playing more wing time will help his SC output. I suspect not.

      • jezzahill says:

Cheers Marco. As a Hawks supporter I did notice him getting up the ground quite a bit last year and he seemed to still score pretty well. I do have some cap space left so he might become Macrae or Buddy before Round 1.

  8. Ossie says:

Community big questions for ya… Got Number 2 Pick in my draft. Considering Danger is gone. Whos next? Was thinking Gawn but with Spencer I have gotten cold feet. Who is the next pick? Treloar? J Selwood?

  9. Steve says:

What are the community's thoughts on Scott Lycett? Im just about sold on #Nankilands and currently have Lycett and Cameron in for cover.
Surely with no Nic Nat it means Scotty will have the lion share of the ruck load and improve on his average.

  10. Rivo says:

    Conundrums No.1
    Caddy (F2) & Florent (F6) or
    Buddy & Miles/Pickett?
    Or
    Macrae & Miles/Pickett?

  11. nankilands says:

    anyone considering marchbank and thurlow??
im thinking docherty, shaw, thurlow, marchbank, hampton, EVW

    • harry says:

got them both atm. i can see them avering high 70s low 80s generating enough cash to make them good stepping stones.

  12. Sana says:

What are people's thoughts on Buddy this year? Haven't seen him in many teams and chat has been minimal, and I understand why he can be a nightmare, but does anyone think he's more relevant this year given the limited supply of proven forward options?

    • jezza says:

He's definitely relevant, Sana. But he can be up and down and almost always drops below the $450K mark at some point mid-season. You can definitely start with him, but you can probably get him at a discount later on.

    • Rivo says:

      Sana,
After a bit of a reshuffle, Buddy is in my starting team at F2. Looks in form with a good pre-season. Can see some big scores brewing. Low % ownership too.

    • Sana says:

Both valid points, something to consider, thanks guys

    • MarcoPolo says:

      Shhh

    • @t_woof says:

      I think so Sana.

Only reason i don't have him is because of his bye. Same bye as the Doggies. So only want one of him, Dahlhaus or Macrae in my team. Will definitely keep an eye on him later in the season for an upgrade target. But, yeah no dramas picking him.

    • John James says:

I've never had him,due to the mid/fwds we used to be able to pick, last year we were spoilt for options, not this year so Buddy is now locked and loaded at F2 in my team.

  13. Andy says:

Would appreciate your thoughts Supercoach community!

Def: Shaw, Adams, Laird, Marchbank, Hampton, Stewart (EVW, Otten)

Mid: Dangerfield, Fyfe, JPK, Treloar, Priddis, Beams, O'Meara, SPP (Barrett, Miles, Parfitt)

    Rucks: Nankervis, Sandilands (Cameron)

Fwd: Dahlhaus, Franklin, Roughead, Steele, Taranto, Hoskin-Elliott (Pickett, Eddy)

    • Rivo says:

I'm still not sold on the Nankilands R1&2 set up. Can you look at downgrading a mid & Hoskin to a Strnadica (swap with Cameron), move Nank to F4 & look at a stronger R1 – maybe Grundy or Hickey?

      • Andy says:

Very very risky I know! But this is one risk I am willing to take. I think Nankervis will be the sole ruckman at Richmond & I only need Sandilands for about 9 weeks..

    • Hawks says:

      Nice team.

Every team has some risk. I think the Rucks are a good place gamble.

Each of the risky picks are ones I've considered going with. Our teams are totally different but I can't fault yours.

    • Trigger says:

very nice team – I have almost the same. Risk – who cares – go with your gut. I like the Nankilands combo, it makes sense to me.

  14. The BONT says:

    Docerty or Shaw???

  15. The_Black_Mamba says:

    Thoughts on Higgins?

    • Andy says:

      He's a trap!

    • bUCKET__ says:

Of course he scores so well PPM during the preseason… does everything to tempt us, only to shoot us down time after time. But that was the past! This year, he is a huge ballsy POD!

    • Tttt says:

Should do well imo. Seems to be running through the midfield

      • harry says:

had him in 2015 and was a fantastic POD. last year was very good till he got that injury! im rolling with him again The_Black_Mamba i think he is looking fit and more midfield minutes at north now

    • MarkyV12 says:

realistically he can recapture his 2015 form and average over 90, but durability is the downside.

    • Tophawk says:

I would not touch him with a 20 foot barge pole. Welcome

    • Wood says:

Doesn't get Contested possessions. Has no plums what so ever

    • Danners says:

Irrelevant, the podcasts are coming out frequently so he won't average as well

    • Redgumwon says:

I'm going with Higgins as he's looking to have more midfield time now the older guys are gone. His form in the JLT looked good and he seems fit. Treat Higgo like Wells last year. Keep him if fit if not he'll make money and allow you to use him as a stepping stone. I think he'll remain fit and have a good year

      • Bulls On Parade says:

I'm 100% in agreeance and im keeping my mouth shut. With the availability of information these days to all players, any kind of secret POD that will be a BOOM is like a nugget of raw gold!

  16. seb says:

Taranto or McCarthy? Can't decide I think Taranto will average more but has less JS and McCarthy has more so not sure who to pick

  17. James says:

    Thoughts everyone??

Def: docherty, Adams, laird, marchbank, Hampton, Stewart (EVE, Guthrie)
Mid: danger, JPK, treloar, priddis, Fyfe, beams, o'meara, SPP (Barrett, wigg, Hibberd)
    Ruck: grundy, sandi (strnadica)
Fwd: Dahlhaus, caddy, roughy, nank, Taranto, Pickett (Newman, eddy)

    • Hawks says:

I like the team (except the forward line).

I understand the backup ruck, but just don't like it. The backup ruck theory only really works if a ruckman is out for 1-2 weeks, and you then save a trade, but carry some $$ on the bench.

I think your better of selecting any 2 of the 3 rucks you like, putting Cameron at R3 for cover, and picking a forward/mid for the fwd position.

    • Sam_01 says:

Yeah solid team mate, could make suggestions but the team is probably as good as it gets, will have to see what round 1 brings

    • Michael Scofield says:

not very good. Nankervis what a joke. Jock Reynolds is a myth, he came 60,000 rank last year lol, I can 17th

    • guruGG says:

Neat all-round line-up. I like Caddy, Marchbank, new roles at fresh clubs. Priddis has been locked in as my mid POD for ages too. Question on Grundy @ R1, perhaps switch Nank to ruck & get another fwd premo.

    • NoLanguage says:

Caddy is severely over rated. I would be very wary about picking him, is he gonna be a top 8 FWD? Its a no from me.

  18. Todd says:

Hey guys any thoughts or ideas would be great.
Still with $150k for top up.

    Doc, shaw, mc/tippa, Murphy, Hampton,Watson (hibbard,eve

    Dang,pend,prids,Fyfe,beams, jom,Barrett,pickett (spp,wigg,parfitt)

    Goldy,Nanks. (Strats)

    Kennedy, dals,caddy,Steele,miles,eddy. (Black,Cameron.)

    • Hutto76 says:

Good team mate! Some good POD's. Murphy has been in and out of my team several times. Out at the moment, but who knows?

Hopefully enough quality rookies are named to allow for 5 in the guts, but I have my doubts.

    • Juzzy says:

      Agree with Hutto.
Watch team selections carefully. Wouldn't want you to start the season with a few 0s onfield.
Specifically Watson (Nth or WC ??) Barret and Miles may not play and neither may your def and fwd benches.

  19. JEL says:

Mills, Swallow, Sandi, Roughy & Nank – 3 fallen premos & 2 hopefulls.
Am I expecting too much from these guys?

    • Hutto76 says:

I prefer Jones and O'Meara over Mills and Swallow, but the rookie stocks are down, so no, I don't think your expectations are unreasonable. Good luck mate. Can't wait!

I've got 6 spread across my on field team that could be considered risky. Happy to roll the dice!

      • JEL says:

I've got more faith in Swallow, but JOM looks bigger risk with bigger reward.

Good luck, hope they all hold together!!

  20. Derek says:

    What About ZAC Dawson?

  21. THE NANK says:

Thoughts on risk it for the biscuit v.103

DEF: Shaw, Laird, Howe, Marchbank, Hampton, Vicker-Wlillis (Newman, Stewart)

MID: Danger, JPK, Trealor, JPK, Fyfe, Beams, JOM, SPP (Barrett, Wigg, Miles)

    Ruck: Grundy, Sandi (Strndica)

Forward: Dals, Macrae, Roughy, Nank, Taranto, Pickett (Smith, Eddy)

  22. Bobby says:

I think two JPKs is the a good way to go NANK. Might I also suggest fielding Danger twice.

    • Juzzy says:

      Funny Bobby :-)
I am fielding two Hadyn Ballantynes.
It's more a long term strategy but once it pays off everyone will wish they had done the same.

  23. John says:

    Do I need roughy

  24. Iconic says:

Where do I find the ownership% of each player?

  25. Tyruddanaut says:

    Thoughts please
Def: Boyd, Montagna, Vlaustin, McGrath, Jaksch, Hampton (EVW, Hibbered)
Mid:Gaz, Neale, Zorko, Gibbs, Zaharakis, Hill, Ah Chee, Hrovat ( Rookies)
    Ruck: Mumford, Kreuser (Eagles)
Fwd: Waite, Betts, Poppy, WHE, Knight, Bowes, (Black, Shoeakers)

  26. Canny the Manny says:

Are we worried about Pendles' achilles? Didn't play the last JLT game and didn't get through training either… I haven't started without him for the last 4 years.

    • THE NANK says:

It was a similar last year, for me I just don't have the extra 40k if I want him so I'm settling for Trealor, who in my eyes will score higher
But can't go wrong with Pendles in my book

    • Sam_01 says:

Mate just lock him in, dont even question it, cant see any downside at all of picking him

    • Danners says:

I am worried, I just can't see my team without him starting

  27. TheCorruptor says:

What about Jobe Watson more determined to prove everyone wrong? Might take a few weeks but will gather steam??

  28. meph says:

Im confused were they saying zorko a bad POD compared to Bont or a good one?

  29. fatboyfat7 says:

Guys, what's Jake Barrett's status at Brisbane? I was reading through a previous thread and came across a post by Clock Management saying that he needs to be elevated but that the Lions list is already full. Is this still the case and if so, why is he still such a popular selection?

    • Derek says:

I think there is room as Alan Christensen has recently broken his collarbone

      • fatboyfat7 says:

There was a comment on the same thread saying Christensen only out for 6 weeks so not on LTI list meaning they won't be able to upgrade a replacement…. Again, dunno if this is accurate. Its in the comments for the review of the Brisbane v Adelaide game….

  30. Dick Richard says:

Best 3 premo defenders: Shaw, Laird, Docherty, Simpson, Howe, Adams, JJ etc????

  31. Sam_01 says:

Thoughts on the team, thanks community! Ripping POD as always lads!

    BACK: Doc,Shaw,Laird,Hampton,Vwillis,Stewart
MID: danger, fyfe, pendles, treloar, beams, JOM, Pepperpig, Barret
    RUCK: goldy, Gawn
FWD: dahl, Macrae, T.miller, Roughead, tarranto, Black

So many ifs and buts being thrown around this year with the rucks and backliners etc, recently decided to just go gawn and goldy as i firmly believe they will be R1 and R2…. is the NANK and Sandy to good to ignore? just felt like i was sticking mid pricers in left right and centre with thoes two in as i previously used to have Swallow, JOM roughy, nank sandi, beams in the side, i like the value they offer just something about jumping on loads of mid pricers everywhere just doesnt seem right
    Thanks all

    • Derek says:

I just remember Patch's article on Mid proceed. He did say that 2 or 3 is ok ;)

I think the best 3 are Sandi, Beams and Roughie. All fallen premiums.

Stay away from the young breakouts

      • Sam_01 says:

I agree Derek, but going sandi leads you into needing cover and there's another mid pricer added on!
All the mid pricer picks have looked so good in jlt making it hard to not get sucked in

  32. Ozzzz says:

Thurlow v Marchbank? Leaning towards Thurlow because of his ability to play half back

  33. Lukas says:

Am i the only person who thinks Tuohy is overhyped and sorta similar to Lumumba's preseason form when everyone was all over him. I think he's scores could be very matchup dependent with teams with an elite small forward, Tuohy could potentially play a lock down role similar to Carlton.
Before his knee, Thurlow was always Geelong's Enright replacement and they rate him very highly and Mackie can still play a half back role if needed.

    • Lukas says:

If you considered before the pre season games, by all means pick him but if he wasn't considered before 2 good sc scoring games, i think your falling in to the pre season hype trap

    • ruckmansYEAR says:

Tuohy is a dud spud waiting to sit like a bunch of carbs on your hips weighing you down for the season. Cut him loose and feel better about shedding those stubborn keg adding spuds that sprout this time of year looking so yummy and delicious, that promise the world like the black and red variety spud from out Essendon farmland way of years past, such as the Stanton variety. most likely these types give off that beautiful tasting 110+ taste of success early only to smack you in the face with the same annoyingly loud crinkle that is the samboy packet in a cinema just as the movie starts making you wish you never purchased such a miserable, heavy, mood enducing, waste of money in the first place!

    • Kev says:

Check out his R50 stats, Lukas. If you weren't able to watch Geelong's games the writeups mention the Cats looked to Tuohy as the main avenue of defence.

      Kicks often. High d.e%.

  34. jaikoirala says:

    G'day community,

    2 quick questions:

    a) Will we be able to make any changes to our side AFTER the start of the Thursday night game in round 1 (obviously not Carl/Rich players)? Or is it LOCKED at the start of this game?

    and

    b) Are there any plans for SC to make changes to players positions midway through the season and introduce new DPP's?

    Cheers legends – appreciate it.

    • Tophawk says:

      A) Rolling "lock outs" apply in SC. As such, you can make changes to your team (players) prior to them playing throughout round 1. Thereafter, you can do the same, but are bound by 2 trades per round, with the exception of bye rounds where up to 3 trades are granted.

      B) No. If so, all hell will break loose in the SC community. ;-)

    • Wood says:

      Yes and No

  35. Harry says:

Jake Lloyd or zak jones? Is lloyd going to be running through the midfield of sydney?

    • Tophawk says:

Depends if you want value for money or pay top dollar. Zak Jones has already had some JLT time in the Sydney midfield. That is telling.
For me, Zak Jones at $307K is very, very appealing. Welcome!

    • Kev says:

Zak wouldn't be the first bloke to be trialled in a different position, tophawk! Go with Lloyd, Harry. You know his role, he knows his role. Happy days

    • Bells E Bubb says:

Lloyd will be running EVERYWHERE. A solid option – consistent scoring. Jones will go through the mids at times for sure, he'll also be tagging when the Swans need it for sure (imo), so scores will be up and down a bit.
In the mids JPK, Parker, Hanners, won't even play tag at lunchtime. Tich did it last year when required. Jones is squarely in the frame this year. . Should still up his average – but not as much as hoped I don't think. The only other potential tagger I see is Foote – and he is borderline best 22.

      • Bulls On Parade says:

I don't see Foote stepping up this year and will remain on the fringe… He has dipped his toes in the senior team but hasn't quite found his feet yet. ;) Dad jokes about Foote. Welcome.

  36. Krups says:

A: Yes it will be a rolling lockout
B: Unlikely. Only available in Afl fantasy

  37. NickMacMan says:

    Steele or Caddy?

    • Tophawk says:

Tough call. The fact that you are comparing these two guys head to head, makes me lean towards Steele. At $347K he is a hell of a lot cheaper than Caddy at $488K. The Saints seem to be on the up whilst the poor old Tigers are set for another mediocre year. Steele has more upside $ wise and team wise. Welcome

    • Danners says:

Caddy, more likely to get midfield time than Steele and he did average around the 90 mark last year

  38. Winter says:

    Thoughts ???
DEF: Shaw, Adams, Laird, Hampton, Otten, Vickers-Willis (Stewart, Guthrie)
MID: Danger, Pendles, JPK, Hanners, Fyfe, Beams, O'Meara, SPP (Barrett, Pickett, Hibberd)
    RUC: Nank, Sandi (Preuss)
FWD: Riewoldt, JJK, Dahlhaus, Roughy, Taranto, Butler (Eddy, Strnadica)

5k left which is a bit of a worry with the rookies changing for round 1

    • Tophawk says:

      Nice team Winter.

Your backline appears to be "cash heavy" though. With all those up an coming defensive rookies on offer, you may be able use your backline as the "cash generation" engine room for your side in 2017. As there are limited sub 150K rookies on offer on the other lines, use the extra cash raised to invest in up and coming fallen/premos and mid pricers.

      I don't like Nankervis at R1 either.

      Good luck!

      • Winter says:

Cheers Tophawk, was thinking going midpricers in the rucks to see how the top rucks perform especially playing with r2's early. Will use the cash generation made in defence you were talking about to upgrade once the season starts and we get a good look

    • Kev says:

Looks very solid, Winter. You could get away with dropping one of NRoo or JJK down to Gunston/Buddy/Greene to free up a little bit more cash.

      Wouldn't change much else though

      • Winter says:

Cheers Kev, pretty sold on N.Roo this year reckon he's gonna kill it. Thinking about dropping Pendles for Treloar but I'm like a die-hard Pies & Pendles fan and haven't started without him for the last like 5 years or something. So starting without Pendles just wouldn't feel right

  39. Jaimie says:

    would love some feedback fellas.
docherty Adams tuohy Hampton vw newman (Otten Stewart/Guthrie)
pendles selwood Zorko fyfe Dahlhaus beams O'meara swallow (SPP picket parfitt)
    Gawn sandi (Cameron)
macrae Greene roughy Steele hoskin-Elliot Taranto (Houston eddy)

    • Kev says:

No need for Dahl in the mids when you've already got mid/fwd swing sets on your bench. Move him forward for Steele or WHE.

      Get Danger in.

      • Jaimie says:

my thoughts regarding danger are that he's highly unlikely to keep the 700k+ price tag, so was going to maybe bring him in when he drops.
if I move Dahl to fwd I'm stuck with not much cash to get someone else in the mids

        • Tim says:

Are you after feedback so you can dismiss it out of hand or do you actually want to improve your team? Both were valid points.

        • Kev says:

I think he will too, Jaimie. Do you really want to hunt for value on a guy that can push out 140 on the reg? By the time he drops you've missed a lot of points

  40. Don't blush Baby says:

I see a lot of teams with Ed Vickers Wells, & Newman in the back line , I don't think they will play R1,might play in later games though , my thoughts only ?

  41. Tibor says:

Have got a side together now where I'm pretty happy but round 11 which is first multi bye is a bit of a disaster. Could trade out of some trouble but don't really want to trade away blokes I regard as keepers when I put them in first up. I stuff up bye strategy every year, anyone have any knowledgeable advice should I just go with it and see where it all sits after the China teams have their bye.??? All advice appreciated

    • Juzzy says:

      Hi Tibor,
When the byes were introduced I picked my initial team based on them. I thought I was being clever but I don't believe I was.

My humble opinion is stick with your keepers, keep an eye on rookies and upgrade targets and after the first month or so of the season make some prudent choices re byes.

    • Derek says:

Stick to your best 22. Have a look at your byes and if you have more than 5 missing round 11, maybe do a slight adjustment

  42. Steeeve says:

I've come up with the ultimate risky team and could talk myself into any one of these blokes either making a good amount of coin or far surpassing their value and putting up premo numbers.

Back: Touhy, Hartlett, Mills, K Kolo, Marchbank, Hampton (Hibberd, Vickers-Williams)
I can see Touhy taking the reins of that backfired and belting out 95 avg. Hartlett averaged 90+ for five years straight until a down year last year. Mills will get Heeneys midfield time and jump into the 90s. Kade Kolo everyone wanted him last year for $450K but he was crook all season, now he's eating to go. The rest will make bank.

Mids: Fyfe, M Crouch, K Jack, Beams, Murphy, Oliver, Jaeger, Swallow (Tarantino, Powell-Pepper, Barrett)
Fyfe is locked as a VC each week if not C. Crouch could push into that $600K territory, too good of a chance to pass up. Jack will be the main beneficiary of TMitch leaving, his mid time will go way up and he's a proven 100+ player. Beams no beainer. Murphy will never cop a tag with Gibbs and Crisps both being so damaging, so he should be back over 100 avg. Oliver the next beast and will have a break out year. Jagger ready to average 90+. Swallow 85+. All good stepping stones. Bench will make bank.

    Rucks: Ryder, Sandi (Witts)
Ryder #1 ruck unlike Gawn, Goldy, Martin, Grundy. Sandi no beainer. Witt's will be making bank while strandica rots on everyone else's bench.

Fwd: Dahlhaus, Caddy, Wingard, Roughy, Nankervis, Steele (McCarthy, Eddy)
Dahl no brainer. Caddy should definitely finish top 10 forward. Wingard playing more mid and has averaged 100 multiple times in the past. Roughy will avg 90+ in his sleep. Nankervis #1 ruck and in form. Steele could bust bigtime but what if JLT was just a taste and he keeps up that relentless attack, he could average 90+ even with a slight drop off in form. Rookies making bank.

    $30,900 remaining.
Sure these are risky picks, but at least I'm not risking my rookies being dropped and never seen again. If a dozen bust I'm cooked, oh well, was pretty unlikely to win the money anyway. But if only half a dozen bust I'll have a real shot to fix that early and get a headstart. By the time some new rookies present themselves Danger, Gawn, Docherty, Shaw etc etc will be cheaper and I can paint the fence.

    • Tophawk says:

I like it!! Risk is so good. No risk, no reward. Period. My risk/reward ratio is not quite in your league. But I love it!

    • Winter says:

I agree with the risk/reward thing to a certain extent, but this goes over the top. K Jack…. Really????

    • Juzzy says:

Love the balls of this team. I just hope when you are painting the fence you don't run out of paint just before the in laws come over for dinner.

      • Juzzy says:

Sorry if my comment sounded flippant. By way of clarification I think you have way to many mid pricers.
I see 2 or 3 keepers. Even if 3 or 4 of the other guys rip it up that is still 16 or 17 you will be looking to swap for premiums.
        Tall ask. Good luck though.

        • Steeeve says:

It's a huge risk alright. Thinking I'll convince a newbie at the office to run this team and then 'help' them manage it haha. I have a relatively safe structure as well.

    • Derek says:

Steerevvvee. We only have 30 trades! You will run out. Might need to start with a couple more keepers to save the trades.

Hartlett will play a defenceive role on half back and will score 70's. Downgrade him to s rookie. Jack to Hanners/JPK/Parker

Wits to Strd. Waste of cash. Might as well spend that money on expensive forward rookie who can earn points.

      • Steeeve says:

Definitely see your point. See above, I'll probably handball this team. Have a muuuuch safer (more boring) team up my sleeve.
But jeez this one makes me excited for the SC season to start!

    • PJ8 says:

Good luck, you will need it

    • TRIGGER HAPPY says:

It's different I'll give you that.

Nice idea and can see the logic but you are going to need a blo0dy big paint brush or a paint sprayer as that is one helluva huge fence to paint!

    • Burnmen says:

Wingard averaged 100 'multiple times'. Multiple being two. Love it.

  43. The BONT says:

What does the communtity think of my team is there any room for improvement

DEF: Docerty, Adams, Laird, Marchbank, Hampton, Otten (Stewart, Vickers-Willis)

MID: Dangerfield, JPK, Treloar, Selwood , Fyfe, Beams, Powell-Pepper, Pickett (Miles, Barrett, Hibberd)

    RUCK: Grundy Sandilands (Cameroon)

FWD Dahlhaus, Macrae, Lynch( GC ), Roughhead, McCarthy, Butler ( Houston, Eddy)

    $5,800 left over

    Cheers

    • MarkyV12 says:

The only thing I'd nitpick at is Lynch selection. That week that GC has the bye you still need to field a full side, so your essentially just giving a premo a weeks rest for absolutely no reason. He's going to take you for a ride also, KPP up and down like a yoyo. You could probably pick him up in round 10 for the same or possibly less $$.

  44. John says:

Who will average higher omeara or Roughead can only pick one

  45. GNR says:

Ive been having a hard time leaving Shaw and Docherty out of my side. They will be top 4 defenders come years end. Huge ceilings.

D: DOCH, SHAW, ADAMS, LAIRD, Z. JONES, HAMPTON (OTTEN, STEWART)

M: DANGER, HANNA, TRELOAR, FYFE, BEAMS, OMEARA, TARANTO, SPP (BARRET, PICKETT, HIBBERED)

    R: NANK, SANDI (STRNA)

F: DAHL, MACRAE, ROUGH, STEELE, MCCARTHY, BLACK(IF PLAYS) (EDDY, CAMERON)

I think my first 3 fwds will end up being keepers and the other cash generators buy me time to see the emerging fwds that will be top at years end!

    • Winter says:

Really like this team. Defence rookies seem the safest bet so maybe downgrade Jones to someone like Vickers-Willis and use the cash to upgrade Steele to an ultra premo midfielder by switching Taranto up fwd. This reduces the mid-price risk and gives you one more keeper

      • GNR says:

Cheers winter. Getting rid of jones and Steele for EVW in def and Taranto in fwd I'm around the 540k mark to upgrade to a premo as you mentioned. I don't like anyone at that price in the midfield. Could possibly upgrade a fwd for the 540k price. A buddy or JK except I don't like the roller coaster ride with those guys.

    • Northerner says:

Far from a GnR team GNR?

    • Dawk says:

great team, I have a different setup, but also have 7 mid-prices

  46. Jollly says:

Logue wasn't mentioned in the podcast any news on him

  47. YeahTheBoys says:

Chuck some feedback my way, may have gone too me midpricers? Let me know your thoughts
DEF: Adams, Laird, Z.Jones, Marchbank, Hampton, Otten (Stewart, Guthrie)
MID: Danger, Selwood, Treloar, Fyfe, Titch, Barlow, Beams, O'Meara (SPP, Wigg, Pickett)
    RUCK: Nankilands (Preuss)
FWD: Dahlhaus, Macrae, Roughy, Steele, Taranto, McCarthy (Parfitt, Eddy)

  48. Jollly says:

    Like the Barlow pick

  49. Winter says:

Not sure about Barlow. I'd downgrade/upgrade Jones and Marchbank to maybe a Vickers-Willis & Shaw. This reduces the amount of midpricers and gives you an extra keeper instead

    • RuckmansYEAR says:

Do it. Jones march equals spuds and tatoes.
Nothing to gain from that combo in anyway. Delete delete.. uninstall.

  50. Andos says:

Can anyone convince me to pick Tom Hickey?

    • Juzzy says:

      I can try .
Lone wolf ruck. Longer won't come into the team with all the tall forwards. Bruce will give him the occasional chop out.
See ball, get ball ruck. Plenty of disposals around clearances. Can't see any reason why he can't be the breakout ruck this year.

Having said that I have Gawn(if it ain't broke don't fix it) and Sandi (how cheap ?!)

    • FetusDave says:

Saints used third man up most of any team last year (around 21% I think), so Hickey will benefit most from this rule change. Along with Saints improved midfield should give him more HOA. Can go large, scored a 157 last year.

    • Danners says:

Nearly 30 touches as a ruckman is fairly impressive. Seems to be like a Stef prototype player

  51. Juzzy says:

Starting without Ablett guilt kicking in.
    Feels very unfamiliar and wrong.
    Gonna go shower before bed.

  52. Northerner says:

    OK. Rucks. Rucks.

At this stage contemplating a Sandi/Witts with Nank FWD and CAMERON as DPP on bench or Strnadica if CAMERON not named. Leaving $240k in bank for contingency cover.

I think Witts can do 80+ and I see as good onfield points scoring rookie option v reliability of other rookies. He will be solo ruck with 2mP providing chop out. Makes all other lines healthy, with Taranto and 1 other on field forward, SPP onfield in Mid and Hampton and another onfield rookie in defence.

Also requires Zack Jones D4, Oliver M7 and Steele F4. Or I run the gauntlet and use cash to upgrade one of these to a premium.

    Any thoughts?

    • Jake says:

I'm currently sitting with the same ruck structure.

I'm with you re Witts. My thinking is he will average considerably more than similarly priced forward, and allows me to wait for a price drop on a Gawn or Goldy. In my case it allows me to fit Nick Riewoldt.

I like those 3 picks but can't fit any of them in.

  53. Carl says:

Is M.Kennedy from Giants a JLT trap or a decent pick? The last rookie spreadsheet makes him a no brainer pick based off those stats. Ave 80-85 @ $230k. I liked that those stats were based off disposals and tackles, not kicking a few goals or something more flukey.

    Awakward price for sure…..Thoughts???

  54. Derek says:

I've been a big fan of Mills all pre season, but I'm starting to look at my team with Beams at M7 instead of Mills at D3 and I like it. Almost same price.

Classic case of Fallen premium vs young breakout mid price.

Sandi is my only other 'risk' player.

Lack of mid price rookies may force change.

    • The Ranger says:

No Fyfe then Derek? I count anyone coming back from an LTI as an additional risk no matter how good they are.
I've been back and forth with that D3 spot too and I just can't bring myself to go into a season with only two def keepers.

    • Northernsoul74 says:

Beams is my M7. Leaves me weak in the forward line but I'm comfortable with that.

    • TRIGGER HAPPY says:

I had mills at d4 but after his JLT beams is just too hard to ignore. .

      just for point generation alone.

so bye caddy shack in Marchbank at d4.

As Hampton should play only leaves a cheap rook at d6 and f8. Surely with the bench would get a couple of options.

    • Shake n bake says:

      Who will be your D3?

    • Shake n bake says:

      Who is you D3 Derek?

      • Derek says:

Mills still there. Looking at getting a rookie at F4 instead of Roughie and keeping Mills.

Adams, Laird, Mills, Hampton, VickersW, Otten, (Stewart, Hibberd)

Danger, Fyfe, Hanners, Treloar, Selwood, TMitch, Beams, SPP (Barrett, Parfitt, Atley)

        Gawn, Sandilands (Strd)

Dahlhaus, McCrae, Cyril, Simpkin, Pickett, Durdin (Eddy, Houston)

3 in field rookies in forward line, but at least all my Rookies should play next week

        Is Beams too good value?

Seems like I can only have 2 out of Mills, Beams or Roughie?

        • hedski says:

I have a feeling Adams has been given def status as a trap.
          Dodgy legs, dodgy ChampData.

        • Swans2012 says:

Beams no brainer for me Derek. I worry about mills, going to be a high ceiling for top 6 defender this year, he'll go well, but I'm thinking 90ish which won't be enough imo. Better off taking a chance up forward where 90-95 may be top 6. Just my opinion…..I do love mills though….

  55. Relton Roberts says:

Excellent podcast. I plan on giving this a hot listen on the morning commute today. Love your work Jock.

If any other coaches out there have a second to peruse over my team, I'd greatly appreciate.

DEF: simmo, shaw, laird, marchbank, hampton, EVW (stewart, otten)
MID: danger, JPK, trelaor, fyfe, titchell, beams, swallow, SPP (wigg, barrett, hibberd)
    RUCK: nank, sandiballs (preuss)
FOR: dahl, buddy, macrae, steele, taranto, parfitt (eddy, houston)

Couple risks in there, but still got a cheeky 20k up my sleeve if I convince myself Steele is a trap and I want Roughy instead. Not liking Gawn or Goldy this year either. The tall timber isn't arousing me as much this year.

    Thoughts?

    • @t_woof says:

The only thing that jumps out at me Relton is the Round 11 Bye. F1 to F4 will all be out, plus Simpson, JPK and Beams. Food for thought.

I have identical DEF and MID structure.

      • Relton Roberts says:

Mmmmmm you raise a very good point. Perhaps I'd be best to swap buddy for another forward option and save up some coin for another position.

  56. 50_Shades says:

$350k left to spend but struggling to find the best place so could use some advice.

Shaw, Laird, Tuohy, Marchbank, Hampton (Otten, VW)

Danger, Kennedy, Fyfe, Titch, Hall, Beams, Jom, SPP (Barrett, Miles, Parfitt)

    Nank, Sandi (Cameron)

Dahl, Greene, Steele, Taranto, McCarthy, Pickett (Houston, Eddy)

Maybe the forward line is missing one of JJk, Rewoldt or Franklin… I'll probably pick the wrong one though.

And I know there's no cover for the ruck situation but I'm happy to burn one trade to correct if that happens… which is better than what I've burned on Rocky the last two years :-(

    • Relton Roberts says:

Very similar to the current version (v2309.166) of my team. Don't have the aggots to pick Touhy down back, but massive respect for your call.
I'd personally upgrade McCarthy to Riewoldt if you can. Safer scorer and should play 22 games a year.
      Otherwise solid solllllllllid team.

      • 50_Shades says:

Yes, I could just scrape that trade in but it would leave me short on cash for an urgent ruck change or to correct another bad call early. I'm targetting between $100k to $200k in reserves at season start.

Still, there's a few more days to dwell on this and change my team another 200 times…

    • Kev says:

I'd look at strengthening one of M4-6 and F3-5 into a rolled gold keepers. Still should leave a nice amount of cash leftover

    • neil Demons Delight says:

haven't seem much of Hall gutsy choice

    • Tophawk says:

I like this side a lot! I love the midfield POD selection. Aaron Hall. You are the first coach that I have seen that has picked him. Hall started like a bat out of hell last year, and if his JLT form is anything to go by, he will come out smoking again this year. He is also my midfield POD pick this year. At $519 K, that is value for money right there! And for anyone that tells you, but he has the bye in round 9, just tell them that you will deal with that come round 9. (after he has scored 1000 SC points in the first 8 rounds).

Not sure about Tuohy at D3 and Nankervis at R1. Take a risk and put in Zak Jones at D3, pick up $136K ,upgrade Nankervis to Stefan Martin (Only if he Smith is not selected) or Hickey and then upgrade Steele or MCarthy to one of your mentioned forward premos. (I do like Mc Carthy by the way. He is in my side at F5. Hope it helps. Cheers

    • @t_woof says:

      Presuming Stewart is your D6.

I'd use the extra cash to upgrade Steele and Tuohy to premiums.

      • 50_Shades says:

Sorry I missed Zac Jones in the back line. No stewart yet. The feedback has been great so thanks everyone.

I'm happy with the midfield, but sounds like I need to think about Nank and Tuohy a little more.

  57. Lord Supercoach says:

$100,500 in the bank, waiting for any last minute changes with the rookies. If nothing occurs, Kennedy to Dangerfield. The current structure allows me either 7 locks in the midfield. With the possibility of 8 locks if O'Meara behaves. Too many question marks over the rucks for me currently, so i'm going with some money generation against all of my best instincts. Happy with my 4 Forward locks, and 2 safe back locks. Running risky with the 2-0-6 structure in the backline, though the best money generators are there.

    Lets play ball community!

DEF: Adams, Laird, Marchbank, Hampton, Vickers-Willis, Stewart (Otten, Guthrie)
MID: Kennedy, Selwood, Treloar, Bontempelli, Fyfe, T.Mitchell, Beams, O'Meara (Powell-Pepper, Barrett, Hibberd)
    RUCK: Nankervis, Sandilands (Cameron)
FWD: Dahlhaus, Macrae, Caddy, Ryder, Taranto, Eddy (Pickett, Miles)

    • neil Demons Delight says:

Great looking team my Lord don't know about Caddy and Ryder being locks would go Rougy and maybe nick or jjk both definitely locks and over97 ave 2016 and Guthrie dicey

      • Lord Supercoach says:

I agree with Guthrie, awaiting team announcements. Sadly with the 2-0-6 approach I'll need to run the gauntlet, hence the 100k left to look at another option. I'm trusting in Caddy and Ryder, Caddy purely on the instincts that he should improve of last year with less opposition for spots and Ryder I need a trusty switch man for Sandilands if the worst case scenario. I'm sceptical on Nank as well which is causing my many mental issues.

    • Kev says:

Danger is a must, Lord SC. You've saved a lot of cash by going with a 2/0/6 defence and two midprice ruckman.

      • Lord Supercoach says:

Dont worry Danger has flicked in and out a few times, though I am considering working the reverse POD role on him at the moment. I have a very strong midfield and have O'Meara who's only purpose is a Danger upgrade at a later stage. The other consideration is Nank to Martin/Grundy option.

        Thursday lunchtime will be crucial.

        • Daniel Zimmerman says:

          "reverse POD role"

Meaning, everyone else and their mom will have him scoring 130+ (x2 for captaincy) and you won't?

It's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off for 'em.

          • Lord Supercoach says:

Thats IF and I mean IF he averages 130+ again, what if he goes back to averaging 115-120 and I grab him in 7-8 rounds at a nicer price. Whilst in the mean time i'm rolling with Fyfe averaging 120+ that he backed up 2 years in a row? Everyone goes on about Dangerfield and yes he has played well during the JLT, but if he drops a number 2 in the bed I wont wear it. If he does the same again, I still have Kennedy, Selwood, Treloar & Fyfe for 110 guaranteed Captiancy.

    • Holty says:

You are saying 7 mid keepers, where do you fit both Danger and Pendles? If you are starting 7 keepers you need to start one or the other imo.

      • Lord Supercoach says:

What if I dont classify Pendles as a keeper? I believe this year Trealor will be Pendlebury. In saying that, if he isnt and the rest do what they're supposed to do. I am still utilising PODs until the break when most will get on board.

        • Holty says:

Fair enough. If you believe all those mids you have picked will average more then Pendles, i have no problems with this side. Ive gone strong in the mids as well.

    • BlakeyP says:

SPP will score more then stewart , VW and Eddy. Need to have him on field.
Option1: Drop Prem mid and upgraded Guthrie who will not play to Prem Back.
Option 2: Drop Omeara and pick up a Mid pricer in defence.

I believe doing one of these option would make your team more stable across all lines.

Also who is goin to be ya floating donut?

      • Lord Supercoach says:

Great point you make, have toiled over the idea of this as well. Though leaving out O'Meara I cannot, saying that SPP is in the squad to fatten up and sell off at a later point. I may lack 20pts per game from a rookie early on, though feel the end goal will justify the means of doing so.

As for donut, depending on Thursdays teamsheet I will change Strnadica in for Cameron otherwise Guthrie is my current marked man.

        • BlakeyP says:

If drop say Bont who is a maybe top 10 MID to Rance who is a top 8 DEF.

Then upgrade Selwood to Danger. You now have the 2 best CAPT options in Danger and Fyfe. I understand you are trying Danger as a reverse POB but there is less risk him then is he starts slow in first 2 rounds swap to selwood and bank the cash.

The above option will increase you team score while given you a top 8 DEF over a maybe top 10 MID.

          Just my 2 cents

  58. neil Demons Delight says:

decided on risk free approach this year only three midpricers. Roughy Sandy and Oliver..Looked closely at Beams Lloyd and Swallow but each has a flaw too great for me.Lloyd will probably not get the mid time needed so Adams gets the nod Beams simply his injuries too much to risk Oliver the young Bull gets that one my breakout and will get mid time and Swallow his time out and injury too much Roughy with the captaincy and remember hawks do this extremely well Hodge and Mitchell superb leaders and Roughy is a fallen prem HE GETS THAT GIG. now the real easy bit rookies will keep an eye on two forgotten rooks Berry and Long knowing they wont be available early cheers NEIL

  59. Ryan says:

    Lloyd or Tuohy?

  60. Laird Lad Donuts says:

Midfield right now looks like this
Danger, JPK, Trealor, Fyfe, Beams, SPP
Changed up the midfield so many times but these are the players that im considering for the last 2 spots
    Priddis, Sidebum, Bont, Cripps, RGray
Out of these 5 who would be the best option

  61. Sunny says:

    Roughead or Jack Steele???

    • Marco_Polo94 says:

I've gone Roughy. Already have Roo at F1 and I'll be damned if I have two sainters in my supercoach team, let alone my forward line!

  62. Marco_Polo94 says:

The bloody hickerystick….. Must have read the magazine 3 times since JLT finished, particularly the ruck articles. Absolutely no idea what to do with my structure, hitting clear and starting again!

  63. rahog says:

I HAVE $72K LEFT IN THE BANK AT THE MOMENT.

DEF: SDocherty. HShaw. ARance. RLaird. RMurphy. AOtten. (TStewart. ZGuthrie.)

MID: PDangerfield. DHannebery. ATreloar. NFyfe. DBeams. JO'Meara. DSwallow. SPowell-Pepper. (JBarret. BJarman. RFox.)

    RUCK: TNankervis. ASandilands. (Strndica)

FWD: LDahlhaus. JMacrae. JRoughead. WHoskin-Elliott. CMcCarthy. ABlack. (DCameron. BEddy.)

APPRECIATE ANY FEEDBACK ON GAPS OR WRONG MOVES OR ANYTHING ON WHICH CHANGES I SHOULD MAKE :) THANKS ALL.

    • Marco_Polo94 says:

Only thing I would say is you've gone heavy in defence. With a plethora of defence rookies and not much else on offer across the other lines, 2017 appears to be the season to go thinner than usual in defence. Gotta think about that cash generation

      • rahog says:

thanks for the advice Marco Polo mate… I feel like your right, but every year I start which a weak defence… do you think its better to add a few more rookies and beef up my forward line instead?

        • Marco_Polo94 says:

That's basically what I've done, I'm slightly heavier in each line compared to yours, doesn't mean it's the correct decision though. I think it's just important to keep in mind how you are going to gain enough cash to get your team to full premo. And with expensive rookies like WHE and mccarthy, added to your limited number of defensive rookies (who appear to be our best scoring rookies at the moment), you may accrue cash a little slow. Simply an observation

  64. HDG says:

    josh kelly?

    • jezzahill says:

Definitely a potential breakout candidate, especially now that Coniglio and Whitfield are out for extended periods. I won't be selecting him though mainly because he won't finish as a top 10 mid, meaning that he could be taking up a space you could use on someone else.

  65. Stompers says:

Changing my def around and around but still end up with 3 crows, Laird, Hampton and Otten, just seems to much,

How many people have done the same?

Doesn't look good on the byes

  66. Seb says:

Who is starting with Myers on their bench?

    • Jez says:

No one should be. He won't play at the start of the season. Jump on him mid-year when you need to cull one of your other midfield rookies.

    • Holty says:

If we dont have enough mid rookies starting, i will consider it.

    • Kevan says:

If we do not have enough mid rookies starting I'm looking to start Myres on the bench, will save a much needed trade later on. Maybe chuck in Berry as well.

    • The Ranger says:

At the moment yes but it may change. Handy loophole player and Essendon have a few late games early.

      • hedski says:

Did it with Petracca last year Ranger worked a treat but with no DPP better going Del-Cucumber whatever from Freo.
I'd let Myers play a few before putting him in but just my two bob.

        • The Ranger says:

Yeah same Hedski, the Tractor was a winner last year but that was partly because of the DPP.
          Still weighing it up.
At least Myers will likely get a game at some point, not looked at the Cucumber yet but will do now mate.

    • Kev says:

If Robbo is then it's probably the wrong thing to do

  67. Imgonnalose says:

Hey guys, thoughts on my team, currently thinking about a super risky ruck with nank for cover, allowing me to beef up my mid. Any advice is appreciated

Def: Simmo, Heater, Laird, Hampton, EVW, Otten
Mid: Danger, Pendles, Selwood, Priddus, Sloane, Fyfe, Beams, SPP
    Ruck: Sandi, Witts
Forward: Dahl, Macrae, Roughead, Nank, WHE, Eddy

    Rookies obviously subject to change

    • Holty says:

I have the same ruck structure with the Nank as backup. With lack of rookies this year, i've simply picked my top 10 who I think have job security and structured my side around that. Witts will have better job security then most so he is in my side starting as 200k+ is to much to have sitting on your bench.

      • Imgonnalose says:

Yes, not too blessed with rookies this year… What are your thoughts on Sloanedog considering lack of preseason?

        • Jake says:

I'm running the same ruck combo, feeling more confident other people are considering it.

I wouldn't worry too much about Sloane if he's named round one. Seems fit as ever besides the face, and I'm pretty sure I read an article where Don Pyke described him as a 'caged animal' atm. Good early draw for Adelaide too, I've had a good think about him.

    • Carl says:

I'm running those same 3 at the moment. Pretty confident. I'm actually thinking of dropping Nank as I think Witts and him will both ave similar numbers but it's just a bit too crazy for my liking

  68. Thomas says:

Currently got Macrae in at F2, but not sold. Should i stick with him or bring in with someone like NRoo? I really want him, but not sure he is worth the price tag. I could also bring in someone like Gunston or Lynch as PODs. Who should i go with and is there a better option that i havent mentioned? Already got Dahl.

    • Marco_Polo94 says:

If I didn't have so many hawks players in my team already I'd be looking a lot harder at Gunston this year. He'll be a top 8 forward come years end and pretty sure he has a really low ownership rating.

    • rosy says:

I've been waiting for Saint Nick to fall away in his output for yrs. It just wont happen. He'll average above 100 until the moment his body actually blows up, which could be this season! If he plays 18+ games, he'll be in the top 6 FWDs.

    • Holty says:

      Hi Thomas
Why aren't you sold on Macrae? Has he changed his role at the Bulldogs? This is the cheapest he has started at for a few years now and imo one of the only premo forwards that you should feel confident that will average more than his starting price. Either way, all the guys you have mentioned are all valid picks.

    • RuckmansYEAR says:

So many q's on fwd's this year. I went good lines everywhere else and took risks in there.

    • Rivo says:

Go for Buddy! He is my F2, looks fit and ready to have a big season.

    • Kyle says:

I have Roo in mine. Every year he is doubted in supercoach but he continues to produce? With the saints on the rise i don't see him being anything less. He averages 117 at etihad stadium, the saints play roughly there first 9 out of 10-11 game there. I'd pick him

  69. Nick says:

    Watson and Marchbank
    or
    Tom Mitchell and Zac Guthrie

I want option 2, but im worried about job security. Marchbank will be my F4

  70. FenceSitter says:

JJK or Buddy? I'm bloody torn community!

  71. THE NANK says:

    Shaw or Docherty??

    • Holty says:

Shaw, only because he is proven. But honestly they should both be keepers by seasons end

    • RuckmansYEAR says:

Shaw kicks to himself 15 times a game out of the goal sqaure. If he plays he auto gets points wet dry or otherwise.

    • Northernsoul74 says:

I can see teams putting work into Shaw when the real thing starts. End of last season showed he can be shutdown and he doesn't like it. You could argue teams will do that to Doch as well but I question why you would bother tagging a Blues defender.

      • Northerner says:

I'm on that logic as well. The Doch just has a game that is loved by SC scoring. His 115 in last JLT was from just an average game. Compare to Laird who had an outstanding and very visible game that only scored similarly.

    • Danners says:

      Shaw, save the $20k

  72. From outside 50 says:

    Trealor and Jaegar
    or
    Pendles and Swallow

  73. MorrowSC says:

Is there anyone where we can find the TOG% from players for the JLT series?

  74. Marco_Polo94 says:

For those who were planning on starting with Mills in their team.. interested to hear where your heads are at now.

I've noticed many have either downgraded to a Marchbank, or upgraded to a premo. What brought this on…. McVeigh injury? Swans structure? Price? Lack of top 10 confidence?

D3 has given me the most trouble this pre season, with a cheaper D3 it allows me to load up my midfield and keep Roo at F1.

    • MarkyV12 says:

I was considering him at d3 but realistically for him to be a keeper he would need to avg over 95. Just can't really see it happening this year

    • Bells E Bubb says:

      Now you'll have a POD!
I think people are realising there are a LOT of mid pricers to consider – and cutting some wherever possible. If a couple of rookies not named down back then expect a flood of late interest in Mills.

    • Derek says:

Second year. A lot to ask.

    • Beady Eye says:

A combination of the above for me.

Ending up going for his teammate Lloyd, the logic being that his natural scoring progression (58, 69, 84 the past three years) is trending closer to the 95+ average you'd be looking for to finish around the top 10 defenders.

Mills is clearly on a faster track to premo status, but I think it's more likely 2018 is the year he gets there.

  75. James says:

Very undecided with my team right this moment. Im going into this year with a mentality of high risk, high reward!
    Supercoach community help me out.

Def: Shaw, Adams, Laird, Marchbank, Hampton, Stewart (EVW, Otten)

Mid: Dangerfield, Fyfe, JPK, Treloar, Priddis, Beams, O'Meara, SPP (Barrett, Miles, Parfitt)

    Rucks: Nankervis, Sandilands (Cameron)

Fwd: Dahlhaus, Franklin, Roughead, Steele, Taranto, Hoskin-Elliott (Pickett, Eddy)

    • John James says:

Very happy with your rucks and fwds, because I have the same, originally had the set and forget of Gawn/Grundy,but once Spencer came in and Grundy looked injured,I went to Nank/Sand.In the fwds I had the first three from the start, the other three came later. In defence I did have Laird but changed to Lloyd,Mids there are so many I just think its a personal choice,I have five of your eight.

  76. Rick Grimes says:

Any thoughts on my latest attempt. I've gone with job security as a key for my rookies, hence paying a premium. My concern is cash generation but i'm hoping some astute mid season down grades will get me there.

Laird, Lloyd, Thurlow, Machbank, Hampton, Otten, Vickers-Willis, Stewart
Danger, Hanners, Treloar, Fyfe, Shuey, Mitchell, Beams, Toranto, Pickett, Hibberd, Wigg
    Nanscrevis, Sandi, Sterndicka
Kennedy, Dahl, Greene, Steele, Hoskin-Elliott, McCarthy, Eddy, King/Cameron/Pruess

    • Marco_Polo94 says:

I've seen some risky backlines over the past few weeks but this one takes the cake! Like the shuey pick. Be wary of Greene, people got aroused with his final JLT game… check out his JLT 2 stats to be brought back down to earth.

    • Northernsoul74 says:

      Is Preuss dpp?

    • SPP says:

If you want a secure rookie I'd be looking towards powell-pepper.

    • neil Demons Delight says:

Hope I play you early Rick this team is full of holes sorry mate def is thin mids look wont go further except keep king there when you play me you really got to change things apologies for this just my view

    • BlakeyP says:

How is SPP not in your team currently the only mid rookie you can trust.
Toranto FWD drop a rookie SPP in.

  77. spuds says:

G'day community would really appreciate your thoughts on my team, cheers

DEF: Shaw, Laird, Tuohy, Hampton, Z.Guthrie, F.Watson – Bench: Hinge, Mcniece
MID: Danger, J. Sellwood, Treloar, Bont, Fyfe, T.Mitchell, M.Crouch, D. Beams – Bench: Jarman, Fox, Grewar
    RUCK: Nankilands – Bench: Strandica
    FWD: Buddy, T.Lynch, S.Higgins, J. Steele, B. Eddy, Z. sporule – Bench: Maynard, Bayok

Wanna chuck roughy in there somewhere

    Would really appreciate feedback

  78. rosy says:

I don't think Caddy and Roughie are going to be in the top 15 FWDs this year. If you are using them as midprice stepping stones then that's ok, eventhough I think there are better value options. I think they'll both average about 85-90 by season's end. I would be swapping Caddy for Steele and taking that extra cash and upgrading Roughie to an actual premo.

    • Shake n bake says:

lol Caddy will be top 15, but you should be asking if they will be top 6-8 and for mine that is a no. Please pick Steele so your out of the running for the prize thankyou

    • RuckmansYEAR says:

I agree with you rosy. Not 15 but steppers. Caddy is a dud. Just because he looks ok at richmond don't forget he was a spud at geelong. Am using roughie as a stepper here though. And as for steele, i am thinking he's a first 5 rounder swap aswell. But i won't be picking him. Goodluck chief.

    • neil Demons Delight says:

bit rough on roughy champ not in best 15 even caddy would be close

    • Randomcliche2 says:

Would like to see the 15 ahead of them…
      Let's have a go….
      2. Roo
      1. Dahl
      3. Macrae
      4. Buddy
      5. Lynch
      6. JJK
      7. Lids
      8. Ryder
      9. Higgins
      10. Nank
      12. Rioli
      13. Gunston
      14. Wallis
      15. Greene
      ?Steele (your words)

Okay I can see that scenario playing out…but that relies on bunch of KPFs kicking regular bags, some rucks continuing to get to play solo and Caddy doing hamstring and Rioli keeping his together. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps. But who are your top 6 or even 9….I've shown you mine :-p

      • RuckmansYEAR says:

How can lod be 7 when he isn't playing.. wallis injured aswell.. where did this list come from..haha
Anyway it's all subjective and only opinions so you don't have to agree. No need to rubbish other peoples opinions and expecially when your own don't make sense..

        • Randomcliche2 says:

Maybe a bit harsh…I didn't mean to offend. Sorry.
My list is by season avg per game. Yes lids is on my shopping list. He would be higher but not for doing a full preseason. Wallis will be back at some point to. But as you say its all subjective.
I think all on that list plus caddy roughy and Steele can do, 93 my threshold for a f4 onwards keeper. I can't see caddy hitting 600k so I don't think he is a stone only a potential keeper. The forward line is the hardest. All the best.

  79. Shake n bake says:

    So Eddy & Houston upgraded.

  80. Dukes says:

Anyone know where can find jlt player averages kicks, handballs ect

  81. HallyMate says:

Is it still a guns and rookies team if the majority of "rookies" are 200k+?
Considering WHE, Taranto and McCarthy at F4-6 as well as Thurlow and Marchbank in the backline, with the lack of quality cheap rookies it really feels you have to pay the extra bit more for that job security

  82. No idea says:

    Thoughts on this team

Backs Simpson, shaw, z. Jones, thurlow, Hampton and EVW ( otten and tom Stewart

Mids danger, josh Kennedy, treloar, fyfe, josh Kelly, d beams, JOM, SPP (Pickett, Barrett, balic)

Rucks Gawn and nankervis ( Preuss)

Forward Roo, Dal, Roughead, Steele, Taranto, Butler (eddy and parfitt)

Rookies could change in lead up to round 1

    • Luke444 says:

I like this team. No Sandilands. Less worry haha. Swap butler for Houston. Then you won't have a problem Houston

  83. Shake n bake says:

As a pie supporter its funny to me that Adams is a Def Mid. Not really sure lve seen Adams play many times behind the ball! Just saying.

  84. neil Demons Delight says:

been in and out of my team finally it was adams or Lloyd adams just too good

  85. Rivo says:

Here is my revised team, just $1k left. Need this squad to take me through a few rounds. Any feedback appreciated.

    1. Sticking with Gawn at R1; Sandi and Fwd cover with Nank at F4;
    2. Taking JOM & Swallow over Beams & rookie;
    3. Backing in M.Crouch to enter beast mode at M5;
    4. Going 3,0,5 in deference with mid swing if needed;
    5. Buddy at F2 over Caddy and Macrae. Feel he will go large.

    D: Doc, Shaw, Laird, Marchbank, Hampton, Otten (EVW, Stewart);
    M: Danger, Pendles, JPK, Fyfe, M.Crouch, JOM, Swallow, SPP (Barrett, Hibberd, Parfitt);
    R: Gawn, Sandi (Strnadica);
F: Dahl, Franklin, Roughy, Nank, Taranto, Pickett (Eddy, Miles).

    Any feedback appreciated.

  86. Stupid Coach says:

Greetings Community. My team as it stands:

B: Doc, Shaw, Laird, Lloyd, Marchbank, EVW, (Otten, Stewart)
Mid: Danger, Pendles, Ward, Fyfe, JOM, SPP (Greenwood, Pickett, Parfitt)
    Rucks: Gawn, Nankervis (Strandica)
Forwards: N Reiwoldt, Dahl, Lynch (GCS), Steele, Taranto, Houston (Cameron, Eddy)

Issues I am trying to resolve

D4 – Do I stick with Lloyd or go with T McDonald, McGovern or Howe
Not sold on Marchbank – should I replace him with another rookie.
Mid – Want to include another premo, as Fyfe, Pendles and Ward all have the same bye but need more cash (where can I make any cuts)
Ruck – Nankervis or Witts for R2 and who I should have on the bench.
Fwds – Should i have Taranto and McCarthy. Is there anyone else that I should have in the fwd line.

    Any thoughts/comments much appreciated.

    RUCK: gawn, sandi (strandaica)
FWD: riewoldt, macrae, higgins, roughy, black, taranto (pickett, eddy)

    thoughts on my side?

    • Randomcliche2 says:

Wow. Nice one 17 premos and mid pricers, one/two more than most, with all bar O'mera being potential keepers. I like. Perhaps nank over roughy for some cover. If black not named consider Steele straight into fwd where he prolly should be. It also means you rate him over swallow. Prefer Dahl over macrae so look for a few tweaks to make that happen. Cheers

  91. seb says:

What happens if u make two teams?? Does it take away both accounts accounts?

    • roger says:

why did you say ''accounts accounts'', is there an echo where you are?

    • Juzzy says:

      Just run the one team.
I contemplated running one with my girlfriends email.
Had a nightmare in which her team had won the 50k. Jay Clarke asked her why she waited to trade in Nick Riewoldt and she replied with "Who" … Busted ..

    • Burnmen says:

For just thinking about it you suck

    • Randomcliche2 says:

Just a distraction bud. There are so many options you'll just lose focus and make a bad trade or forget to loophole or captain properly….one is more than enough once the real thing starts. (If you do run it you'd really need two devices logged in separately to make quick changes once teams named etc.) I'm running one team.
Ps it's an extra 20 bucks for premo access again…there are better expected returns for 20 bucks mate. This should just be a hobby, done properly.

  92. Jozza says:

    HANNEBERY OR SELWOOD

  93. Kevdog says:

    27.5k left, thoughts ?

  94. Juzzy says:

Posted earlier in this thread re my self loathing not starting a season with GAJ. One of the replies said he could be a great pickup post byes at $500k. This got me thinking, how would you fit him in ? With everyone stacking their midfield it will probably be the first line filled.

    So some food for thought.
One of my favourite Steven Wright quotes is "I never predict the future ….. and I never will" . But what if ….

GAJ plays the first half of the season playing forward and getting some confidence back in his body. During this time we have completed our premo midfields. Gold Coast are a chance to get in the 8. Rocket injects a fully fit GAJ back into the midfield.
He comes out with a 140 but trading any of our premo mids is wasting a trade. But what if he does it 3 or 4 weeks in a row ?

All speculation of course but just saying as the season progresses I may try to roll over some M8 rookies to keep a spot for the Little Master.

    • Kev says:

If a guy is pushing out constant 140's it's a no brainer to get him in, Juzzy. Completed midfield or not. Would be a handy M9 loophole!

At the moment 620k is too much for me. He would need to average 95 up until his round 9 bye to be around the 500k mark

      • Juzzy says:

        Love it Kev.
GAJ as a M9 loop. Never thought I would see those words in the same sentence :-)

Agree too expensive but think that might be a realistic avg up to round 9.

Then again he might avg 150 and make fools of us all.

    • The Ranger says:

It's one of the reasons I'm trying to stick to only five keeper mids at the start of the season Juzzy.
There's lots of what ifs surrounding the top mids this year.
At the moment I'm starting with Danger, Fyfe, Pendles, JPK and Hannebery but any one of GAJ, Rocky, Beams, TMitch, Cripps, Bont, ZMerret, Neale,Treloar and Parker could fill the other three spots by season end and I want to make sure I end up with as close as possible to the top eight.

      • Juzzy says:

I hope your other mids are the swallow jom beams types.
If not give me the good mail.
I have 6 with swallow (did I just misspell that above ?) and SPP on field.

      • Beezneez says:

I was about to write the exact same thing. Have Oliver JOM & a ròok for upgrades to the players you mentioned – have Beams and Treloar. Currently also have Rockliff who I may change to one of those mentioned – want Pendlebury but not enough cash.

    • MarkyV12 says:

This is constantly on my mind when I look at my damn 6x 550k+, Beams(keeper if he gets back to 110) and SPP midfield. -.-

    • STAR says:

First options is safer secound risker but could pay off

    • Randomcliche2 says:

Well summarised. A bunch of teams are running these. 3 0 5 or a 2 1 5 Inc marchbank or even 206 Inc Marchbank. Breakout options are hard to pick. Just ask anyone who chose billings last season. Go 305 and sleep soundly. But I would switch rance to adams.

    • @t_woof says:

      I'd lean Option 1.

      I've been toying with similar:

Shaw, Rance/Laird, Lloyd, Hampton, Marchbank, Otten / Vickers-Willis, Stewart.

If you can somehow get it to Shaw, Rance, Laird, Hampton, Marchbank, Otten / Vickers-Willis, Stewart or whoever. I think it is a lot safer. Especially with the late teams round 1. Gives you the rotation of Otten, Vickers-Willis and say Stewart to cover that D6 spot, rather than needing two of them to cover D5 and D6. Hampton and Marchbank appear assured of a round 1 spot.

  107. GNR says:

    Community!

I may have just found the formula this season to get a leg up. IMO danger and fyfe are 1 and 2 seasons end and then the long list of 3rd-15th will be close with the usual suspects but also breakout players which we aren't 100% yet obviously. Rucks are giving people head aches and so are the fwds, we want the fwds to emerge before we spend on unsurities and waste trades. I see the backline as the surest line this year with premos and the many rookies coming through unlike other lines. Doch, Shaw, Adams, Laird, Simmo I see as Top 6 this season. they are keepers from the get go….we don't want to go too heavy in defence as we need the cash cows to fatten, so am I going to swing a certain someone elsewhere allowing cash cows to grow and once ready can re swing the "keeper" back to defence and upgrade elsewhere.

  108. Phil says:

I'm not sure Roughead is a good pick. There I said it.

He has been a champion footballer and is a top bloke but I think people need to slightly lower there expectations on the big fella. To say he will average 95+ Just because he has done the previous 3 years is a bit unrealistic.
    1. He hasn't played in 12 months.
2.He has had a very serious illness
3.He is coming back from a PCL
    4.Those 3 years of averaging 95+ were as a 26,27 & 28 year old….When footballers peak. He is now 30
5.Hawthorn were a top4 side during those years, they won't be this year. Infact I can see them slipping out of the 8

He is a top bloke and it's great to see him back, but I feel people are picking him for the feel good story of the year

    • Derek says:

He did average around 100 a few years ago, but that was when players were rewarded more for match winning goals etc.

      100 from a key forward a few years ago isn't 100 now.

However, Roughie will be looking for midfield time this year. Hawks will be looking for a big body to match it with other clubs who have the 6'4' mid………. it might just work.

    • Burnmen says:

Liked your points but the feel good story of the year? LOL

    • Derek says:

Hawks slipping out of the 8. You can't be serious.

Minor premiers last year after 3 flags….. that is a big fall.

    • Burnmen says:

You realise that he had melanoma (skin cancer) that was treatable with immunotherapy?

  109. Phil says:

My advice to anyone picking Zac Tuohy or any other break out type player.
Are you going to be comfortable coming into a SC GF when you and your opponent both have Shaw, Docherty, Simpson, Adams & Laird (just example) occupying D1-D5 & you've got Tuohy D6 against a Rance D6?
If the answer is No, I would suggest not picking him.
Sure, the plan might be to eventually more him to D7, or a stepping stone…but this rarely happens. Especially in a year where cash generation will be difficult due to rookies being sub par.

    • BrownlowBoy says:

You could potentially have Tuohy as bench cover if you trade well.

    • Liam says:

What if you started with Docherty last year compared to your opponent who went with Tom McDonald ?
I understand your point but things happen and players improve on their average and players decrease.

    • Leeds17 says:

      Happy With him at D6

      • SCaddict says:

It's hard to see Tuohy going backwards with the fantasy favourable role that has fallen into his lap at the Cattery post Enright. Worst case scenario I see is that he stalls, as his durability has been impeccable playing all 88 of the past 88 games, so injury risk is fairly low. If he does stall and average say 80-85 he will hold his price and then you could always consider sideways trading him to a Doch or Simmo (who one or both may have dropped $50K or more) when Tuohy has his Rd12 bye. But I think the more likely scenario is that Tuohy improves his average anywhere between 10-20pts which would make him an excellent D6.

And as for more attention coming his way are we really expected to believe opposition coaches will be focused on anything Tuohy is doing back there – whilst Danger and Jelwood (who is particularly susceptible to a tag) are also running around racking up the pill?

        Let's keep it real folks!

    • Burnmen says:

Just let them all have Tuohy Phil. Lock him in everyone mwahahaha

    • wombatsfc says:

From the scarred memory of a blues supporter I can assure you that Tuohy starred every preseason with 100+ scores but when the season starts he's back to 70-80 with the irregular 95+ on the back of a junktime goal.
Don't get sucked in by the mob who reckon he's going to improve his ave in a backline that gets half as much play as Carltons did.

    • jimmy_raiders says:

This is why you pick teams with more than 1 different player to everyone else so then your PODs can even themselves out Points wise

    • RuckmansYEAR says:

Tuohy is a spud just like caddy. Like scaddict said he's probably a safe i'll ave 88 type player. So i'd be looking at him as such. Could be better and his jlt ave was 111 i think so who knows. He may just be that older breakout player.
Am going either lloyd..johnson..or marchbank at d4 instead.

    Community,

Who do we think is the better option as a mid priced forward, Hoskin-Elliot, Taranto or McCarthy?

    Cheers

  111. Danners says:

Great listen for my bus trip Jocky boy! I see what your trying to do, tempting us into midpricers, having doubts on Gawn all these things happen around this time of the year. The winners over the last few years have only had a maximum of 5 midpricers in their teams. I've learnt my mistakes from last year and my team has barely changed over the JLT. Also if you want a league to join the Community Crew leagues are back again the first code below.

Fwd: Roo, Dahl, Higgins, Rough, Florent, Pickett ( Houston, Eddy)

    • SnakeWu says:

      150k in the bank :)

    • Valens_FC says:

Don't mind this team at all but maybe doing a bit too much on PODs? I don't think GAJ is good value this year given injury record and looks a good upgrade option if he's still going well after round 9 bye. Price unlikely to have moved significantly up by then. With Hanners and Higgins that's two nice PODs and probably enough to start off with. Also wonder if O'Meara is a risk too many especially if you do go in with GAJ, Sandi, Roughy, Beams and Higgins – all of whom didn't play a lot of games last season.

Downgrade GAJ to someone around the 600k mark, tinker with rookies and upgrade O'Meara to the predicted beast M Crouch?

    • From outside 50 says:

Florent won't get many games so this is what I think you should do
      Swap Florent for Taranto
Swap Higgins for Nank/Ryder for cover for Sandi
Stuff Swallow into Taranto's old spot and upgrade Ablett to Pendles

  113. Juzzy says:

I would love to go back to my original set-and-forget ruck structure of Gawn and Goldstien.
Goldy has been dumped for Sandi purely for value.

My question i this. Is the "Lone Wolf" ruck theory getting blown out of proportion ? Do we really think that Spencer will diminish Gawns scores anymore than Cox will lessen Grundys, or Bruce will lessen Hickeys ?

The must have ruck several years back was Dean Cox. He shared the ruck duties with a young fella with a big bloody leap called Nic Nat.

    • Derek says:

A lot has changed since then.

Less interchanges than previously meant rucks could go hard then rest, deliberate out of bounds means 21% stoppages, change in scoring to only reward HO to advantage rewards the ruckmen with good midfielders.

Now with changes to third man up rules, we don't know how that will affect scores.

Can't compare the past ruck scoring with now.

My research shows that to score well in SC they MUST be a lone Wolf

      • Juzzy says:

Comments like this are why I love this forum.

You are correct. We can't compare scores from previous years.

If you have a moment Derek please let me know who the lone wolf ruckmen are. I can think of 3 or 4 but only 1 that I would want in my SC team.

        • Derek says:

I posted about this a month or two ago and said that clubs were going to go back to having Two ruckmen, like before the sub rule days, but it may take a couple of years for clubs to find and train them. It's happening now.

The last 3 premiership teams, swans (mummy/pike), hawks (McEvoy/hale/ceglar) dogs (Campbell/Roughead) did it.

However, with less interchanges and less stoppages, the next bread of ruckman will be more nimble and mobile, able to team up and run the Lone Eolf ragged.

Nearly all teams have a secondary ruck/forward now.

The standouts for me are, Mummy, Krueser and Jacobs

    • Valens_FC says:

Good points Juzzy. I think people quite heavily influenced by Steff Martin's scoring when Smith was in the team, but that overlooks how much the May hit impacted his 2016 season. The issue with Spencer is he probably doesn't offer much up forward so he's a ruckman first. Bruce and Cox much more forwards who occasionally ruck.

Ruck strategy is the key call this season!

    • Tttt says:

But do people actually think that Goodwin will keep his All Australian ruckman up forward for too much of time? I reckon Spencer will play predominantly forward and give gawn a spell when required.

      • The Ranger says:

I only got to see one of Melbournes JLT games and in that game Spencer played predominantly up forward and only went into the ruck when Gawn rested up forward. If anyone saw anything other than this I'd be interested to hear about it.
Derek is right to point out that the ruck role may change this year but set and forget still means set and forget and I think that Gawn will still be in the very top bracket in his position so I'm happy to pay the price.

    • wombatsfc says:

The new AFL ruck prototype is a 200cm athlete that can rove his own ruckwork and deliver inside 50.
Derek was right in identifying Kruezer as a standout in JLT he jumped over the top of Max a dozen times to win hitouts and roved 3 or 4 of them himself for effective centre clearances and inside 50's. Max's low SC score in that game wasn't due to Spencer or a lack of ball in the forward line (Dees won by 1000 goals) it was due to max not being mobile enough to keep up with the more athletic rucks around the ground. The bloke takes 100mtrs to do a 180 degree turn

          2015: AVE 103.0
          Priced at 101.0

          And FWIW

          2015: AVE 112.8
          Priced at 106.0

I've started very poorly the past few seasons, so have been dissecting the top priced players from each line hoping to find some good starters that will either exceed their starting price or hold based on past two seasons scores vs opponent.

    • Valens_FC says:

Not sure that only 2 premos in DEF and FWD is the way to go mate. There will be a lot of opportunity to trade into premo MIDS at discounted value during the season and by going deep to M6 you don't leave a lot of space for upgrades. Would consider dropping Rocky off and maybe getting another premo defender – Howe maybe as a POD. Rocky is not the best starter, Beams being back could impact his scoring and he has a round 11 bye – all of which makes him a good upgrade target imo.

Crouch in my opinion has more opportunity than Kelly with all of The talent at GWS, whereas Adelaide has injury and there is more space for crouch.
Not sure if kelly can be a top mid come years end having to compete with all the other GWS mids.
But crouch I reckon has that change of a top mid, maybe not top 10 but probably top 15

    • Burnmen says:

Neither will be a top mid.

RUC- S.Martin (*R1), A.Sandilands (L.Strnadica) P.S (*R1) Pick may change. It is subject to the 'non' selection of A.Smith.

    FWD- L. Dahlhaus, T. Lynch (GCS), T. Greene, J. Roughead, C.McCarthy, J.Pickett (D.Cameron, B.Eddy)

Obviously, the rookies are still in a state of flux and are subject to change.

    Cheers

    • From outside 50 says:

I'd be worried if I had both Greene and Lynch in my forward line, both due for absolute stinkers and in my books after last year's performance I'm not going anywhere near Greene

    • MarkyV12 says:

Like the howe selection, I'm strongly considering him also. Rest of the back line is fine.
Not sure about A. Hall, don't think he will finish top 10 midfielder, rather see you start SPP on field and probably invest that cash elsewhere.
Swing Taranto fwd for mccarthy, add an extra rookie(barrett, wigg subject to selection), and drop in an ultra premo instead of hall. A Jelwood, Pendles, Hanners etc type

Also, not sure about Titch, lots of talk about him becoming a PIG due to increased midfield minutes, but he's going to be the centre of attention down at the Hawks now. Food for thought.

    • The Ranger says:

Hey Tophawk, too many midpricers for me mate but if that's your choice of structure then you've picked well.
McCarthy would worry me too much. He'll get the best defender most weeks and he hasn't had that heat before.

      • Tophawk says:

        Cheers Ranger.

I am very bullish on Cam Mc Carthy.

He hammered home 35 goals for GWS in 2015 when he was a "homesick" kid and away from Perth. (Not a too shabby effort)

Now he is at Freo..The kid has now turned into a man, and is primed to make a serious statement in 2017. His recent JLT form has been very impressive.

At $203K,he is indeed a "pricey" rookie, but IMHO, can turn into a keeper and at least a "stepping stone" in 2017. Welcome ;-)

    • Tophawk says:

Thanks guys! I guess I just love youth and new talent!

    • Derek says:

If Hall was $200k cheaper. But for his price, too many better options

  128. Pirate says:

Considering Beams or WatsonM6, most chat in the forums is about beams and Watson seems to be considered irrelevant.
He is a fallen Jet who has averaged 110+ is he not being considered because of age or role (or both) or is there something else I'm missing?

    • Holty says:

Watson imo has only had 2 years which has been premo/keeper material and they were in those questionable years at Essendon. To much uncertainty at his price especially when paying that bit more you know what you are going to get.

      • Broken broom says:

Probably right about the great Jobe Watson. I hope he does well but I would spend a little more and go for Josh Kelly, GWS. Good luck.

  129. Dutch says:

    RUCK : Nankervis, Sandi (Preuss)

FWD : Dahlhaus, Franklin, Roughead, , Hoskin-Elliott, Taranto, Houston (Pickett, Eddy)

So I have 143K left to upgrade either Kelly to a Parker/Treloar/Bont/Selwood
Or a Taranto to a Steele maybe?
Have been loving the look of Kelly, but it could be a season to soon..
I do also have to PODss in midfield in Cripps and Steven..
    THOUGHTS!?

    • From outside 50 says:

overkill in the defence for mine

Certainly enough for corrective rookie moves .The prems should be in place and can sideways move .Personally between 50 and 100

      • INPieman says:

$7,400 doesn't give you much room for a possible correction. I agree with Neil. Perhaps say 50-80 or so will give you some options

    • wombatsfc says:

$0 I don't see a need for a kitty if one of my rookies is a spud I'll swap him for a same price or cheaper rookie who isn't a spud, same goes for Premos.

Nah it was a spur of the moment thought Neil… thanks for the comment mate.. I still hope Maxy is lone wolf though

    • Deeboy says:

Ha, ha. I think Goodwin is trying to make his own coaching mark after Roo's fine coaching effort. When it doesn't work, I aim to grab Gawn when he goes lone wolf and is $50K cheaper

  147. the nank says:

In Zak Jones a trap, averaged 56.4 last year and has toned up just once in his career. We would need him to increase his average by around 41.84% to be anywhere near effective and for mine I just can't see him doing that

    • Thommo says:

Spot on nank. Just too risky.

    • Zee888 says:

      huuuuge trap.

    • Holty says:

All other seasons i wouldnt consider him but with our lack of rookie choices, we may have to take some risks this year. I see jones is as much of a risk as Mills Tuohy Steele and the Nank. None proven but now could have SC significant roles. I see Jones as the beneficiary of Titch leaving. People will argue that it is Heeney or Mills. All have potential but as Patches article suggested, probably only 1 will succeed.

  148. Beams on toast says:

    R1 Witt's r2 Sandi r3 preuss

  149. Bobble says:

    Community,
    Thurlow or Marchbank??

    • FearTheBeard says:

I too would love to hear peoples opinion on this. I've got Marchbank though not sure? Anyone got any firm opinion?

    • HallyMate says:

Currently running wih both at D3 and D4. If i had to choose would probably go with thurlow, marchbank could throw in a few dud key defender scores

    • Derek says:

I'm still looking at McGrath. Love is DPP.

He could do anything when unleashed

      • Valens_FC says:

Tend to agree Derek. Cats have a pretty tough draw from rounds 3 to 6 so I'd be going Marchbank ahead of Thurlow (who is a superb user of the ball and doesn't need many touches to score, but starting price that little bit higher makes cash generation that little bit more challenging).

With Tipa set to move forward this year, it may be that McGrath takes his role. Bombers early draw relatively friendly compared to the opposition McGrath came up against in the JLT. With DPP and lowest price of the 3, this looks a very sensible option.

        • Derek says:

Marchbank is flavour of the week. Didn't see one team with him last week. This is what JLT does.

All I see comments regards McGrath is he uses the ball well, kicks off both sides, good decision maker….. but didn't get much of the ball, therefore not picking him.

Imagine when he does get some of the ball ;)

          • wombatsfc says:

Only at 23% ownership which is crazy considering Mc Grath is in 24% after possibly the worst JLT of all defender and midfield rookies, how anybody could consider him a safe onfield rookie is beyond my comprehension. 35 from 100% game time and 24 from 74% game time there is a greater chance of him losing money than making money based on those figures.
Probably the Relton Roberts of 2017 he'll play two games and then sit on the pine for the rest of the season.
Quite a few teams had Marchbank before JLT started but due to him being overlooked by the preseason article writers he was probably only the teams of the carlton supporters and genuine researchers here, it was obvious to them that if fit he would play every game.

      • Phil says:

Good call Derek and he would certainly be a nice pod….I feel Woosha is gonna make him play lockdown in his 1st year if the JLT is anything to go by.

    • wombatsfc says:

      Thurlow's history
      2013 4 games rnd 7,8,9,11 then Injury ave 66
      2014 4 games rnd 6,injury then rnd 21,22,23 ave 57
      2015 19 games rnd 6-23 ave 70
2016 collided with a bag of fairy floss when entering the ground for first NAB game, out for season ave 0.00

Thurlow costs more and in his best year he pumped out three sub 50's, SEVEN sub 60's, and only five scores above 80. Unless he comes with a warranty and 'free trade to replace' guarantee I wouldn't even suggest him to my exwife

  150. Big G says:

Thinking of going callan ward over gray as m6 (danger, fyfe, jpk, trealoar, selwood). Ward has always served me well. I know GWS has a deep midfield, but surely ward can average 105-110. Thoughts?

  151. Glenn says:

Hi all, I'm doing SuperCoach on my phone, for the past day I haven't been able to hit the trade button…on my team page i select a player to trade and the Normal "Trade, sub, Vc and captain" options come up, I then push the T for trade and and the whole option bar just disappears? Anyone else having this problem? Or know how to get it fixed? Cheers

    Nank, Sandi, Cameron

Riewolt, Dalhaus, Roughhead, Steele, Taranto, Eddy, Miles, Houston

Only thing is I wanted Jelwood over Titchell. Short the cash unless I cut someone.

    Thoughts lads?

    • Gingerbread says:

Not much different to many teams. Correct culling and trading will be the key for you to get ahead of the pack. Good luck.

  153. FearTheBeard says:

    T Adams & Oliver

  154. Daniel says:

I'm joining. I want to test myself against the best the community has to offer

    • The Ranger says:

      I'm in General. Thanks mate.
What's your take on this years lack of reliable rookies? It seems to be an unusual one but is it really?
Have we all just gotten too used to GWS and GCS playing lots of kids?

  156. leg says:

thoughts on will hoskin elliot who goes at 75 ave. from 70% tog. Cam Mccarthy is only 60, and both him and picket only had one really good high scoring game. who to go for for forward rookies?

  157. Nutsandbolts says:

I am a fan of Josh Kelly, GWS and I notice a couple of other scribes are too. I love Ward but Kelly is $100K cheaper and is on the improve where Ward probably isn't. What do you think?

  158. Dee says:

    Witts anyone?

  159. Derek says:

I'm sure Jock's famous Rookie Cheat Sheet isn't far away.

My list of cheap rookies under $175k is very thin. At the moment I've only got 8 that I would say with any confidence will play round 1.

    Hampton
    Stewart
    SPP
    Pickett
    Brodie
    Eddy
    Shoenmaker
    Turner

In my "Highly likely" group I have:

    VickersW
    Hibberd
    Otten
    Atley
    Barrett
    Parfitt
    Wigg
    Gallucci
    Durdin
    Simpkin
    Houston
    Black

And in my "Possibles" list I have

    Butler
    Florent
    McKay
    Cameron
    Miles
    Hayward
    Chol
    Guthrie

Does anyone have players to add?

Reports as to chances of playing etc.

    • hedski says:

I have Mountford from norf on my mid bench, in the Possibles.

    • Don't blush Baby says:

Good work mate,I'm hoping Wigg,Parfitt and Barrett will play, but I won't be on my own me thinks.

    • SCaddict says:

This is probably the worst rookie class in recent memory which is why 2017 is such midpriced mayhem for a lot of coaches.

This is definitely not the season to go strict GnR or anything close to it. Most of our cheaper rookie JS, point scoring and cash generating potential this year range from mediocre to just downright p1ss poor.

At this stage I only have two sub $175K rookies on field and one of those is Hampton at $160K.

      • Derek says:

This year it was going to be GnR with maybe 2 or 3 fallen premium mid pricer. No more Lobbe, BSmith, Rich, wingard, TBC mistakes this year. Top Guns and quality rookies way to go.

The rookies will appear….. they always do, don't they?

I feel like Bart Simpson at Kamp Krusty waiting for Krusty to arrive. Patch will know what I mean.

I have been strong, have Mills, Sandi and Roughie as only mid pricer. Beams is the only other middy I'm considering instead of Mills or Roughie, the rookies may decide that for me.

Pretty excited, 1 week to go.

      • INPieman says:

It's not probably the worst rookie class, it absolutely is! Look at your bench & consider the JS foctor. It's terrifying

        • The Ranger says:

Agreed Pieman. Rookies scoring badly is one thing but if the buggers can't even make it onto the park…
I'm trying to remember a worse year but can't.

          • INPieman says:

The need for players that can ride up in value is real. Who wants to pick 200k blokes. Problem is we have no choice

            • Browncow says:

Exactly. Better to make 150k on Marchbank / McCarthy types than 0 on non playing rookies. Defensive rooks not as safe as we first thought.

    • BlakeyP says:

Thanks for the list I would have the following changes and add ons.
      Changes:
      Brodie only as Possible
Gallucci from crows will not play Rd1 other ahead of him.
      Adds:
      Mountford Possible
      Greenword Possible
      Melican Possible
      Bowes Possible

    • neil Demons Delight says:

Durdin into possibles and whats your take on liles the hawk I like him but wtll he get a gig

    • @t_woof says:

      Nice list Derek.

Brodie not getting much of a run in JLT III makes me think he's more in group 2, than 1.

And maybe Dan Butler up to group 2. Saw it reported on Fox Footy yesterday he Prestia and Caddy set for round 1.

Preuss is one i would add to your list. Perhaps group 2 for him.

    • Nailbitter7 says:

      T. Smith, Melb @ $102K is a rookie not on your list Derek and is a chance to play.

    Ruck- nank, sandi (Strnadica)

Fwd- Dahl, Macrae, Caddy, rough, steele, pickett (black, eddy)

    Rooks will change.

Not sure about touhy, j.hunt or johannisen for the back and ryder, hoskin elliot anf mccarthy for the forwards

    Cheers

  161. ccapper says:

    Community,
    J Steele or the Rough.
Cannot decide for the life of me

    • Zee888 says:

Steele averaged 63.8 in 2016 and 64.3 in 2015. Top score in 2016 was 81. Roughy has averaged 101, 103, 98, 95, 96 in the last 5 seasons with top scores of 145 and 150 in 2015. So one is proven and one is completely unproven and you will be predicting a break-out year. Some people predicted a break out year from Billings last year and he averaged 74.9. Some people predicted a break-out year from Brad Crouch and he performed his lowest averaged season…

    • PJ8 says:

Steele averaged 120+ over 3 years in the NEAFL. His AFL averages were due to not getting a go. He will get a good midfield time at Saints.

Elite tackler and contested bull, I'm backing a breakout.

    • Bravis Toak says:

ccapper, I'd look at it like this.

Have you got other risky picks in your team? if not, then you can probably afford to gamble on steele.

If you are gambling on a few other blokes not getting injured or having breakouts then you might want to go with Roughy who is the safer pick.

  162. Marco_Polo94 says:

Hey Community, just created a league. 319318 for those who want to join – would prefer the elites to join to make it a competitive season, cheers.

  163. Finnius123 says:

I know I have probably missed this thread a bit but thoughts on Jeremy Howe?

    • Big G says:

could be a real good POD but I don't have the balls to pick him.

    • Marco_Polo94 says:

I've got Adams and Laird so he isn't an option for me, however I like him as a selection. He finished the year last season incredibly well and will continue his intercept marking magnificence this season. Big balls to go him over a proven premo, but I wouldn't be overly surprised if he finished top 6.

  164. Goose says:

G'day fellas any feedback for this team? Got $131,900 in the bank and tossing up whether to move Jake Lloyd into a Rance or Adams or strengthening my mids a little bit but aside from that, feelin pretty good at this stage.

    Cheers Community

    • Maverick says:

Solid team but I'd strengthen your mids a bit goose. Zorko, Mitchell and Merrett are all great but be nice to have one more certain top 10 – JPK, Pendlebury etc

  165. Ozzzz says:

    RUC: Nankilands (Cameron)
FWD: Dahhaus, Lynch, Caddy, Roughead,Taranto,Pickett (Houston, Eddy)

  167. Derek says:

Cheers PD. we'll have to all get to the CK grand final.

Lloyd is not on my radar. Seems too much Brodie Smith like for me.

Kelly I like a lot. After the top 5 mids, there isn't a lot between the next 20. The price is determined by average, it should factor in games played as well. Some of the top 25 should not be considered because of risk.

Scoring between 25th best and 5th best isn't that much in the mids. So you can get away with looking for value.

Kelly at his price should score 22pts less than Priddis. He should cover that easily which makes him very good value.

So why don't all the elite players just get a team of Kelly's?

If you did have a team of Kelly priced/value players, you would start the year on fire!

But as the year goes on and team values increase, the 'value advantage' of a Kelly reduces. Remember team value should be around $13mil by round 13.

So teams will start becoming 'Full Premium' and your Kelly scoring a few points less than Priddis becomes a big issue. Both in Rank and Leagues.

Your only hope is to then trade Kelly to a Ultra premium, using another valuable trade. If you have trades left, no worries, but as we all know, trades become gold.

That is why the elite players keep saying, 'will he be a top 8?'

I like Kelly a lot. Will be a gun, will score really well for his price, but………… will he be a top 8 mid?

    • PDAP says:

Been watching the cricket. Aust 1 for 78.
Thanks Derek. Will keep them both at this stage because they are heading in the right direction and they suit my bye strategy, but you never know particularly with Lloyd.

  169. Big G says:

Maxie Gawn is messing with you people. He is a beast – Unselect him at your own peril. Is Luke Ryan even playing?

    • PJ8 says:

My Gawn selection is subject to Spencer being selected. You don't think his score will be effected sharing the role?

Ryan has not been sighted in any pre season games. Very unlikely to be named round 1. Highly rated rookie though, chance for games at some point for us to down grade to.

      • INPieman says:

I agree on Spencer. I am of the same opinion. If he's named round 1 Max is Gawn.

Luke Ryan is still recovering from a shoulder injury, hence why he missed the JLT. Hopefully a juicy downgrade later on

        • Big G says:

Even if Spencer plays, I don't see him taking the majority of the ruck role and Gawn is still good up forward.

  170. SR Bart says:

Hi coaches would love your honest oppinion on this team

Def: Docherty, Shaw, Adams,Hampton, Marchbank, Stewart (Vickers-Willis, Melican)

    Ruck: Nankervis, Sandi (Witts)

Fwd: N Riewlodt, Dalhaus, Roughead, Franklin, Taranto, Eddy (Pickett, Parfitt)

Still have $63800 in the bank

  171. Johnny says:

I see a lot of teams going with Sandilands. I understand the value but if he gets injured which is highly likely for a 34 year old ruck, where to from there?

    • SCaddict says:

A lot of it has to do with the uncertainty with the premium rucks. Just how well will Gawn, Grundy, Goldy, Stef etc start the season? Not since the Dean Cox era have we had the top 2 rucks from the previous season back it up as the top 2 the following season, so a set and forget strategy has plenty of attached risk. A case in point is in 2016 I started with the 2 top rucks in Stef and Goldy from 2015 and it was pretty much a train wreck for me.

For every year there is always a couple of surprises in terms of ruck premo sliders and bolters. So we only need to get 6 or 7 decent games out of Sandiballs and then we can lop his head off, bank the profit and then jump on whichever ruck premo is dominating and perhaps operating solo.

And there is always a slight chance Sandiballs becomes a season long keeper just like he did back in 2014. In fact his durability in 2014 and 2015 was excellent missing just 1 game in each of those seasons and that was just due to a Rossy rest iirc.

    • PJ8 says:

A lot of the uncertainty around the Ruck premos is that talk about teams picking 2 ruckman.

Will Spencer, Daw or Archie Smith be picked for round 1. Also i don't feel Grundy is proven just yet so he is a risk in himself.

If they all 3 of the above back up ruckman get named i will want to be going with the Nankilands combo and as mentioned roll it out for 6-7 rounds, hopefully make some coin and jump on the in-form/solo ruckman.

A problem is Nank will be locked in Thurs night before Kangas team is finalised.

    • @t_woof says:

Witts, Preuss, Nankervis, Ryder as some form of coverage.

Depends on the timing of the injury, post byes won't be much of a concern. Should be out of most teams by then.

  172. INPieman says:

Hedski I got your payment this morning & responded to your email. Can you reply when you get a minute

    • hedski says:

Sorry mate your email hasn't filtered thru yet, all good as long as you got mine.
      League full yet?

      • INPieman says:

I got yours mate. Your team is the VB Dip$ one isn't it? Pretty sure it is. Across the 2 league 34/36 paid up now. I'll give the other 2 till Saturday & if they haven't made payment or contacted me there are others desperately waiting to take those spots. So there won't be an issue with 2 both fully paid up leagues

  173. Statlogic says:

    Macrae's stats
    2014 avg 100
    2015 avg 97
    2016 avg 94

There are limited fwds but is he really worth his price? Will he improve?

Adams hadn't played a full season ever. Also has never avg over 100….surely trap.

    • PJ8 says:

Macrae's attraction is purely hid DPP.

To be able to pick him in our forward lines is a bonus for what i would consider a midfielder.

Even if he flat lines this year and averages 94, that will be enough to be a top 8 FWD in my opinion. Picking premo's should also be based on who you think will be top 8-10 in there position, i think he will be top 8 easy.

  174. Costa says:

    Gents

Some interesting teams here. Regardless of where you finish like myself rather highly its not rocket science.
Any way you structure your team is a gamble but Il put it to you like this. You have 30 trades for the year, generally to upgrade a mid pricer it takes two trades; 1 to down grade a rookie and the other to upgrade a mid pricer to the premium which is ok.
Some of these teams have up to 11 mid priced players and the majority returning from injury. Only 6% of players priced between 2-500K finish the year with a 100+ average. That means you are planning to use 22 trades just to up grade mid priced players, then your rookies will take 6 minimum, leaving you with only 4 trades for injury or long suspension players. RISKY
Someone said to leave beams out of that group, BEAMS is probably the only one because he is returning from a bone break and roughy from illness, the rest are soft tissue. Omeara, sandi & swallow for example WILL and i assure you WILL be out again. Stick with premiums and low priced rookies with 2, max 3 mid pricers.
Set and forget your ruckman, nankervis has a bad game.. Maric will be in the next week. Same goes with Hickey and longer, Ryder and Lobbe, stef martin and archie smith, nichols and witts. These clubs are so reactive with rucks unless they have one standout like Goldy, Gawn, Jacobs, Grundy, they get persistence.

    Just my tips

    • Northernsoul74 says:

Sensible words but we need the rookies to pick.

    • INPieman says:

Nice Costa. The problem is with the lack of rookies we are being forced into looking at the mid pricers. I'm sure most would love to go guns & rookies

    • Juzzy says:

Yep. That's the way it's done Costa. Northern and INP have pointed out our challenge with GNR this year.

Secondly (and in the spirit of everyone making up their own minds) …
Regarding the clubs that are "so reactive with rucks".
Games last year Hickey 20 Longer 0. Sydney belted the Saints at Etihad in rnd 20 ending their finals chances. Hickey was rested for the last 3 rounds to give Holmes a taste of senior footy.
Dimma looooves Nank. The way he has been talking about him you'd think they had recruited Polly Farmer. Maric is there as a secondary backup(behind Hampson who is currently injured) this year with a view to staying on as the ruck coach.
Ryders leg would have to fall off to be dropped for Lobbe.
I don't see one bad game getting these guys sent to the vfl.

I fully agree with set and forget rucks but this is the year to give all the rucks a bit of informed consideration.

      Good Luck.

    • SCB says:

Ryder will not be in and out of Port. He wasn't injured.

  175. Eric_the_Red says:

Ok community. Should I be convinced to not go with a Martin / Hickey ruck combo?

  176. Steve1 says:

Heres a naughty subject, has anyone played or going to make a team for the other mob (afl fantasy dream team or whatever its called) I played it once a few years ago but couldn't get into it. The only thing i liked was how it had photos of the players. so many times playing supercoach i have gone through a whole season without knowing what half my rookies look like. (sorry jay kennedy harris)

    • Randomcliche2 says:

Yeah watching Melbourne matches a few years back was something to avoid…

    • SCaddict says:

I have been playing both Real Dream Team (RDT) and AFL Fantasy (AF) for years. Supercoach is god's own game and the other formats are mere pretenders in comparison but all 3 comps have a huge cash prize for first place so why not?! I actually got close to the prize money in RDT one year. AF is all about playing the stock market, even more so than the other 2 codes, with the 'use them or lose them' 2 trades every single week so you get nearly 50% more trades with 44 for the season which has its pros and cons.

One nice aspect about the DT comps is that it's easy to verify the simplified scoring system it uses. So you have none of that "How the hell did Rance score 145??" or "Why did Zorko only score 75??" irritation you sometimes get in Supercoach.

      • Steve1 says:

Thanks man, sounds like i may as well give them both a crack. Yeh im so used to conserving my trades in supercoach it will be wierd to have the ability to do 2 trades each week.

  177. wighty says:

I really think we spend too much time on posting our sides and looking for comments. Has anyone changed their side as a result ?

    Having said that…any comments…LOL

Adams, Laird, Martin J, MBank, Hampton, VW….Otten/T Stewart
    Danger, Pendles, Hanners, Jwood, Treloar, fyfe,Beams, D swallow….. PP/Pickett/Miles
    Sandi, nank….Strnadica
Dahl, Greene, Billings, Taranto, Black, Eddy….Houston/Cameron

    • Randomcliche2 says:

I got a few responses to a call out on Hartlett who will not be gracing my side.

Interested in your thoughts on why Jack Martin. The other unique pick is Billings…who I won't be running again this year. I'm trying ever so hard to avoid breakout players this year.

  178. James says:

Convince me whether to pick or not pick roughhesd

  179. Scyb says:

    766378 – 2 more spots!

  180. Scyb says:

    Feedback on the team?

Def: Shaw, Adams, Mills, Marchbank, Hampton, Ottens (EVW, Stewart)
Mid: Danger, JPK, Trelor, Priddis, Fyfe, M crouch, Beams, SPP (Barret, Hibberd, Parfitt)
    Ruc: Nan, Sandi (strnadica)
For: Buddy, Dahl, Ryder, Roughy, Taranto, Pickett (Miles, Eddy)

Definitely very midfield heavy and trusting Jock on the M Crouch selection.

Am I too light on the other 3 areas?

  181. Luke says:

comments on my team would be much appreciated…
DEF: Dawson, S. Lemmens, T. McKenzie, B. Smith, H. Hartlett, K. Bradley (Batchelor, D. Meyer)
    MID: C. Morton, A. Fiora, D. Rich, E. Yeo, D. Thomas, C. Menadue, J. McMahon, L. Greenwood (Tambling, R. Roberts, Oakley-Nicholls)
    RUC: A. Graham, M. Lobbe (A. Browne)
    FWD: H. Bennell, T. Hunt , K. Kingsley, A. Lovett, Conca, C. Cloke (Schoenmakers, A. Collins)
…….gone heavy in the MIDS. Think Morton and Menadue top two Midfielders come seasons end.

  182. BlueBoy says:

Jake Lloyd, Josh Kelly and Steele

    Or

    Marchbank, Titch and Greene?

  183. GNR says:

Thoughts on 3 pies in a squad….Pendles, Treloar, Adams….too much?

    • Browncow says:

Nope – all A graders. Some will have Grundy as well. If you also have a handful of Crows and Giants you might need to rethink if chasing ranking or round 13 win.

  184. Sully321 says:

what is nankervis' scoring potential? what can he average this year?

    • SCaddict says:

So long as he can keep Hampson out of the side for most of the season I think 85-95 is a reasonable expectation. Some coaches may expect higher and others lower but 85-95 would be my guess as a lone wolf ruckman.

He's already one of Dimma's favs so should be given every opportunity to excel at the Tigers.

  185. Keenbutclueless says:

Just having a look at the teams posted on this thread over the past few days. Like everyone else, wrestling with mid priced versus rookies. Especially on the forward line.
Of the 54 teams, 7 have 3 rookies onfield, 43 have 2 rookies onfield, 3 teams have 1 rookie on field, and only one team went mid price down to F6.

The most selected onfield rookies were
    Taranto 29
    Pickett 18
    McCarthy 13
    Black 12
    Eddy 11
    WHE 9
    Butler 4

Of these, McCarthy has job security but hard to imagine he could generate much cash.
Taranto looks like he could generate cash, but had questionable job security
Pickett as a small forward in a lowly team will doubtless give us a few awful scores, and we would all be much happier leaving him on the bench.
Black – is he best 22, after being left out of JLT3?
Eddy – surely is bench only
WHE – probably has job security, but probably won't generate enough cash
Butler – again a small forward who we would prefer on the bench at best.

So, what does it all mean? Obviously everyone will draw their own conclusions, but for me, I am questioning even 2 onfield rookies. I am surprised, given the underwhelming quality of the rookies available that there are not more teams sporting only 1 or zero rookies onfield.

For those with a Nankilands, but still running 2 forward rookies, maybe consider bringing Nankervis down to F5 and running Witts as F2. Is Witts at F2 a better bet than WHE or McCarthy at F5? Possibly.

If Nankervis is just a ruck stepping stone, does Ryder make sense on the forward line? Maybe. Could be more likely to be a keeper at the end of the season than Nankervis.

What about Hrovat? If Zac Jones is a valid pick in Defence, then I would argue that Hrovat is equally valid as a forward selection. Again a stepping stone that will cost a trade, but will shore up a spot and will outscore WHE andMCarthy and will probably generate the same amount of cash.

At the moment I feel more inclined to run SPP and Barrett at M7 and M8 and go mid priced crazy on the forward line.

I look forward to some opinions

    • Northernsoul74 says:

Barrett's JS is just as iffy as the fwd rookies you're concerned about.

    • Swans2012 says:

I agree, Taranto my only on field rook up forward. I've toyed with witts at r2 behind sandi simply because he has the best scoring potential behind Taranto ( who is no lock for games). I'd much rather play witts than any of the other rooks up forward. But sandy and witts is too risky for me, just doesn't feel right, and nank looks to good at f4

  186. Andrew says:

    Community,

My current defense is Shaw, Adams and Laird who all have the same bye. Is this a worry or am I just overthinking this?

    • the nank says:

I'd be worrying maybe try and start the Doc at d1?

    • SCaddict says:

Maybe overthinking it a little. Although i you were to have 4 premos in one line all with the same bye that might be pushing things a tad. Also you wouldn't want to have two Rd9 bye premos in the same line either but otherwise I wouldn't sweat it too much.

More important is your overall bye structure particularly with respect to your premos and so long as that is reasonably balanced you shouldn't go too far wrong. It's probably also a good idea to have some sort of plan on what premos you intend as trade in targets and when you expect to acquire them.

Of course like any plan it's subject to revision as events transpire but I still think it's a worthwhile exercise to have some sort of idea of how your team might look throughout the byes.

  187. neil Demons Delight says:

good looking team Tommo Most of us have a problem with F6/7 miles butler eddy parfit don't appear to have great long term JS. am having thoughts about Nank at F6 for JS mainly.Cant see him loosing no 1 ruck to Hampson at least not soon

  188. Dylan says:

Thoughts on this team, still uncertain about rookie selections

Simpson, Shaw, Laird, McGrath, Hampton, Scharenberg (Otten, Stewart)
Danger, Hanners, Treloar, Sloane, Fyfe, T.Mitchell, Beams, Powell-Pepper (Hibberd, Barrett, Freeman)
    Sandilands, Nankervis (Strnadica)
Dahlhaus, T.Lynch, Roughy, Taranto, Bowes, Pickett (Houston, Eddy)

    Bank: $27,500

    • wombatsfc says:

C'mon Dylan get serious about your backline, what makes you think McGrath will find the real thing easier than the practice games? Have a look at his JLT stats mate he will lose you money with his sub 40 scores

      • Dylan says:

Yeah looking at it it's not too good of a backline, I'll probably switch things around to get a 4th premo since I can't rely on a Marchbank or Thurlow to get the job done

  189. the nank says:

Can someone tell me who WHE is

  190. Izzy says:

Hey Guys, with things looking slim in the forward rookie department, who is the best option between 140k-200k?

  191. Derek says:

Which of the $200k forwards are people going with?

McCarthy, WHE, Taranto, Turner……… any others?

    • Dee says:

at the moment I've got Taranto and WHE but really contemplating on replacing WHE for McCarthy…. depending on the team announcements for Round 1, a lot could still change and could end up not having WHE or McCarthy at all. In the case of Taranto, I have no plans of whatsoever to get rid of him. Bloody LOCK. Cheers and good luck.

    • neil Demons Delight says:

Taranto a lock turner just a pass that's it

      • Derek says:

        F4, F5, F6 are my main concern.

        Have $600k to spend.

        Eddy and Pickett on bench.

        Dahlhaus, McCrae and Cyril locked.

        Option 1. Roughie, Houston, Durbin

        Option 2. Taranto, WHE, Simpkin/Turner

        Option 3. Taranto, Turner/Simpkin, Black +$80k

    • Insagram2 says:

      Sorry, but who is WHE?

  192. RuckmansYEAR says:

Apart from powell pepper, who are people thinking on the mid rookie line?
    Cunico
    Parfitt
    Castagna
    Chol
    Taranto
Just off the top of head can't remember a few… bit there's not much here really for any security of game time.
Seriously considering going light fwd and just load up mids..
Fwd has soo many decent rookie picks. Anyone else seeing the same things?

  193. BlueBoy says:

Would Ben Long get a game if he wasn't suspended?

Thinking of using him as a floating doughnut since in first 2 rounds since he's more likely to make money eventually.

    • BlueBoy says:

*Thinking of using him as a floating doughnut in the first 2 rounds since he's more likely to make money eventually.

  194. Aaron says:

Hey guys, would love some feedback on my team

DEF: Docherty, Shaw, Laird, Z. Jones, Hampton, Stewart (Otten, VIckers Willis)
MID: Dangerfield, Hannebery, Fyfe, Treloar, J. Kelly, Beams, Taranto, Powell-Pepper (Wigg, Hibbert, Parfitt)
    RUCK: Ryder, Sandilands (Strnadica)
FOR: N. Riewolt, Dahlhouse, Franklin, Nankervis, Hoskin-Elliot, Eddy (Pickett, Cameron)

    Thanks fellas

  195. Madeabooboo says:

Like it. Risks with Jones, Kelly, Ryder and Hoskin Elliot but if it comes off you will be ahead of the pack.

  196. FearTheBeard says:

COMMUNITY NEED SOME OPINIONS PLEASE :

JPK, Oliver, Cameron (First 2 on field, Cameron as bench)

Selwood, Jaeger, Witts (All would play on field)

    • FearTheBeard says:

      Scratch that.

It is now pick 1 of these options please

OPTION 1 : Selwood, Jaeger, Witts, Cameron (3 on field)

OPTION 2 : JPK, Oliver, Cameron, Miles (2 on field)

OPTION 3 : JPK, Jaeger, Witts, Strna (3 on field)

  197. WhatsaFtumch says:

    Version 202.5

DEF: Doc, Adams, Laird, Hampton, Vickers-Willis, Stewart. (J.Smith, Guthrie)
MID: Danger, Parker, Selwood, Treloar, Fyfe, Hall, Beams, O'Meara (SPP, Hibberd, Pickett)
    RUC: Martin, Sandi (Strandnica)
FWD: Dahl, Macrae, Steele, Black, Butler, Eddy (Parfitt, Houston)

$91K in the bank…If Martin doesn't play as lone ruckman may go down to Nank and upgrade Steele to Roo? Had Priddis in an earlier version, but think Hall will smash it early and is good value…money in the bank allows for changes re rookies (Otten into DEF obvious, Taranto/McCarthy into FWD possibly?)

Would love to put Zorko into my team but feel Beams offers better value…and thinking upgrade JOM to Zorko eventually…still not convinced by my forwards (esp Macrae & Steele) and could easily be persuaded to put Roo and/or Buddy in…not convinced by Caddy at all yet…Greene is tempting tho'…gawd, what a mess…playing Supercoach, Dreamteam, and AFL Fantasy…it just messes with the mind… But bloody hell it makes work on a Friday arvo easier to get through! (that and the pints at the pub)…happy St Pats day all!

    • WhatsaFtumch says:

shit, just realised this post is wasted on this thread, the community has moved on! bloody useless public service internet! Never mind, will copy and paste into another thread and wonder if anyone gives a damn

  198. Jake says:

Hanners + Rookie or Murphy + Swallow?

    • Northerner says:

First, no question. You have 1 keeper and one cash generator v 2 that will not generate much cash and will require 2 trades to get them to premiums

  199. Northerner says:

    Thoughts?

Just looking at the injury lists. Jake Lever is "test". Let's assume he does miss one week, even spend another in the reserves. What do others think about Otten's JS. Are we at risk of getting 1/2 games and then he's missing for weeks from our sides?

  200. Waterloo sunset says:

Jock, what's going on mate? I, along with a couple of others have complained, whinged whatever about paying for the magazine three weeks ago. The money has been withdrawn but no magazine. Can you email me please. Have you run out? My hard earned money back please. Other scribes do not want to be reading about this stuff.

  202. Sam says:

What's everyone thinking about Kade Simpson this year?
Will he be the same consistent lock as last year?

  203. Jason says:

Love to hear your opinions on this team fellas

Aaron Black (along woth all the rookies) is subject to change based on selections

  204. Bull says:

Am thinking of running with McGovern as a premo with laird, Shaw and Adams. What is the community feel? Haven't seen many select McGovern, solid intercept player with some pod value?

  205. Bolts says:

Hi all would love some feedback, very confused which way to go with my structure normally i like guns & rookies but there's so many mid priced players. so far i've got
    DEF; S.Docherty, H.Shaw, R.Laird,C. Hampton, A.Otten, T.Stewart ( EVW, J.Smith )
    MID; Danger, Pendlebury, J.Selwood, R.Gray, Fyfe, Beams, Taranto, SPP ( J.Pickett, B.Parfitt, J.Barrett )
