Round 11 Supercoach Scouting Report

VonCrow_smallWoop woop! The bye rounds are over, I repeat, the bye rounds are over! Howdy folks, Barron Von Crow here, and in case you can’t tell, I’m bloody ecstatic that these bye rounds are all done with.

It was a bloody crazy week, Gazza scored about as well as I did with the chicks in High School, then almost got suspended (no shades of BVC in High School there), we had Jack Riewoldt kicking goals like it was going out of style as well as Supercoach favourites in Jimmy Bartel and Scott Pendlebury putting up top scores as well.

Anyway, now that the byes are done we can get back the business of having a full side of players to select our Captain from, which I’m sure if you’re like me, you’ll be very glad to see happening. Anyway, enough yammering from me, let’s get to it.

Also, remember to look out for the red and green Supercoach scores, RED = bad, GREEN = good which may help you out when it comes to picking your captains for the week.

First up, the Top 10 scorers for Round 10

1. Jack Riewoldt – 189 Supercoach Points (10 points)
2. Jimmy Bartel – 157 Supercoach Points (9 points)
3. Scott Pendlebury – 153 Supercoach Points (8 points)
4. Matt Thomas – 147 Supercoach Points (7 points)
5. Matt Priddis / Kade Simpson / Brandon Ellis – 144 Supercoach Points (6 points)
6. Tom Hawkins – 139 Supercoach Points (5 points)
7. Levi Greenwood / Tom Liberatore – 137 Supercoach Poitns (4 points)
8. Dustin Martin – 134 Supercoach Points (3 points)
9. Ryan Griffen / Travis Boak – 132 Supercoach Points (2 points)
10. Jarrod Harbrow / Dylan Shiel – 131 Supercoach Points (1 point)

And now the Top 10 rankins overall, where we’ve finally evened up now that the bye rounds are completed

1. Gary Ablett – 57 Points (7 appearances)
2. Tom Liberatore – 25 Points (4 appearances)
3. Joel Selwood – 22 Points (4 appearances)
4. Travis Boak / Leigh Montagna – 21 Points (3 appearances each)
5. Scott Pendlebury – 20 Points (3 appearances)
6. Steve Johnson – 19 Points (4 appearances)
7. Adam Treloar / Brent Harvey / Patrick Dangerfield – 18 Points (2 appearances each)
8. Jobe Watson (2 appearances) / Josh P. Kennedy (3 appearances) – 17 Points
9. Shane Mumford – 15 Points (2 appearances)
10. Marc Murphy – 14 points (2 appearances)

For only the 2nd week Gary Ablett has failed to poll in the Top 10 rankings, but is still well clear of the pack. Young Libba moves into clear 2nd with his 4th appearances in the top 10 list, with Joel Selwood, Travis Boak and Leigh Montagna hovering close by. Scott Pendlebury now moves into 5th, ahead of the stagnating Steve Johnson and Adam Treloar and is now the only Collingwood player in the Top 10 list. The rest has stayed static from last week.

Captain Pick(s):

Franklin also had a score of 49 against the Cats in the 2013 Preliminary Final, so his last 4 games against Geelong have been pretty poor. Still, he’s the type that’ll probably bob up with a good score when you least expect it. Both Selwood and JPK would look like obvious picks, however JPK’s form against Geelong doesn’t feel you with a great amount of confidence. I’d be taking my pick from Selwood or Stevie J here this week.

@ Etihad Stadium Averages: 94.57 Supercoach Points, High Score of 166

Captain Pick(s):

Pendles has some fine form against the Saints, as does Swan and Beams. I’d be weary of Montagna knowing all the defensive attention may go to him. Riewoldt’s form hasn’t been anything to write home about over the past 5 weeks or so, and I fear he may have another poor one here with the Saints mids struggling to get him the ball on a consistent basis. I reckon you back in your Collingwood players here if you have any and you should be good. Like last week, if someone manages to score 150 odd, then you take that score.

Captain Pick(s):

This will be the first regular H&A game played up at TIO Trager Park in Alice Springs, with both teams having played pre-season games at the ground over the past 2 seasons. Port Adelaide conducted a training camp in Dubai this off-season, which makes me think they might be a bit more prepared for the weather AS has to offer, meaning you may want to be looking at someone like Travis Boak if you have him in your side.

Total VS Brisbane Averages: 11 games, 103.18 Supercoach Points
@ The Gabba Averages: 84.86 Supercoach Points, High Score of 104

Captain Pick(s):

Well, the amount of red in players like Redden, Rockliff and Hanley would suggest you steer clear of any Brisbane players in your picks! You may want to hold your nose when you look at Rockliff’s form line, especially. Still, he is more than capable of reversing that form and pulling off a nice score, but I’d probably only bet on that if you don’t have any other options. Marc Murphy and Simpson have had some decent form lately, so you can maybe look at them as options too, especially Simpson, who has had two 140+ games in a row and is once again going up against some suspect opposition in Brisbane.

@ MCG Averages: 81.81 Supercoach Points, High Score of 153

Captain Pick(s):

Both Jobe Watson and Michael Hibberd scored their highest every score at the MCG against Richmond in 2013. I probably wouldn’t be looking at Hibberd as a legitimate selection, but you could do worse than Watson. For Richmond, hopefully that big win against GWS will get them all fired up and we’ll see some big scores from Cotchin and Deledio. Both have been disappointing this year, but last week just may be the kickstart to their season they needed.

Captain Pick(s):

This may be one of the harder choices this week, do we go with Ablett or Dangerfield for our Captain pick? Historically Ablett hasn’t scored that great against Adelaide in recent times, whereas Dangerfield has scored well against Gold Coast. Dangerfield had to come off the ground multiple times last week due to being battered and beaten about, and looked to be in tremendous amounts of pain at times, and while he’s been cleared to play, I can’t imagine he’ll be out there at 100%. Prestia absolutely belted Adelaide last time they played as the Crows focused all their attention onto Ablett, which allowed Prestia to do as he wished, you may find something similar happens again this week with Kedge and/or Wright targeting Ablett.

Captain Pick(s):

Tom Liberatore should be your pick here, has a nice score from their last matchup and is really starting to pick it up after a slower start to the season. Nathan Fyfe is also another very solid pick for VC, but his upside seems to be slightly lower than what Libba can manage on a very good day.

Captain Pick(s):

With both JJK and J. Riewoldt kicking a ton of goals against GWS in their last couple of games, everyone is asking the question. How many can Jarryd Roughead kick against them this week? He kicked 5 goals against them in their 2013 matchup and 6 in their 2012 game, so it is possible he kicks a bag against them. Either way, there certainly have been stupider punts you could take in Supercoach, it would have been perfect if this game was scheduled early on Saturday as that’d likely give us a very solid C choice so we could take the VC loophole on Roughie. Probably can’t do that here with only West Coast VS North Melbourne left on the fixture.

Also, don’t discount Jack Gunston kicking a big bag of goals either, he’s no slouch and I actually think if anyone pops up and kicks 7-8 goals in this game, it could be him. Even someone like a Jordan Lewis or a Luke Bruest could maybe manage 4-5 goals too.

Captain Pick(s):

Looking at Matt Priddis’s total averages, you’d certainly be thinking about making him your Captain here. He had a terrific game last week, and certainly looks capable of scoring well against the Roos. Nick Dal Santo is also another very good option. Some may hope for a Nic Nat revival of sorts, he’s hit a couple of decent scores against North, but I wouldn’t be betting the farm on it this week.

BARRON VON CROW’S CAPTAIN SELECTION(S):

Interesting one for me this week as I’m gagging to take a punt on Jarryd Roughead. I’ve also brought in Scott Pendlebury, so I’m torn between playing it very safe with the Pendles/Ablett VC/C combo or going Ablett as my VC and Roughie as the Captain. I reckon I’ll likely go play it safe with my picks, but it is a very tempting pick.

So which VC picks are you guys looking at this week? Anyone thinking on taking a go on the Jarryd Roughead 10 goal bet? Let us know in the comments below or hit us on the Twitter @BarronVonCrow

  1. crabb says:

Wont be going pendles vc this week. Feel like he takes his foot off the gas after big performances. That being said, he's playing saints… we could see 3 +150 scores from the pies mid trio as a given…

  2. Mathew says:

Very tough week for captains and vice
Top wright up as always Barron thanks for all the advice
Im debating between Selwood or Pendles as VC and Ablett or Danger C.. What do people think?
Leaning more towards Pendles as a safe VC option especially playing the saints and maybe Danger C for a bit of change and hope it pays off
Got a tough opponent this week so might pay off if he has Ablett
    Good luck all

  3. I just can't find the funds to bring in Scooter Selwood this week :(

  4. Jottie says:

Think I will go with Pendles VC Ablett C , safe as houses. although selwood VC Liberatore C is also tempting …

  5. Beady Eye says:

After being burnt with my last couple of captain choices, I'm playing it safe this week.

    Joelwood VC into Pendles C.

  6. James says:

Im going Jelwood as vc cos i personally think he scores well against the Swans and taking the safe bet with GAJ as C

  7. gab says:

Getting roughie this week, reckon he could be my C this week, with selwood vc, ablett getting rid of on the back of that 75

  8. Danners16 says:

Hey fellas in 15 minutes or at 5:00pm EST I will be open for questions

  9. Aaron says:

Loving how everyone is jumping off ablett captain after his score last week. Should see me soar up the rankings

    • Matt says:

Yeah i know, its silly, why do people get rid of the best mid to ever play the game

  10. Danners16 says:

Alright guys fire away with your supercoach questions! I will be online for the next 30min or until 5:30 EST.

  11. Nick says:

    Hi all,
Thinking of bringing in Robbie Gray or buddy. Thoughts?? The guy I'm playing has Gray

  12. Azzman says:

Birchall or walker in for Enright?

  13. Brad Dowdell says:

Thinking of bringing in griffin this week bit concerned he will cop the Crowley tag. Goddard is the other option.

  14. John says:

Best midfielder under 575k community. Already have Watson and Selwood.

  15. jakey boy says:

hey legends, what are your thoughts on fyfe v rockliff. both have great draws & proven big scorers.

  16. Michael says:

    time to jump on Griffen?

  17. scano says:

    thoughts on Hanley?

  18. Al. J says:

hey guys, if theres anyone who can work out BE's can you help me out.
What will pendleburys price be next week if he scores say 135.
    Cheers

  19. Mozz says:

What do we do with Enright!!!?? Can someone please inform me on what I sould do with him & how long is he out for? :(

    • wes says:

suggest keeping an eye on afl.com injury report… the Doc usually adds notes to that…
I checked this morning and nothing on FB page or cats website about Enright yet…

  20. Brandon2416 says:

who should i trade out for bews langdon or enright??

    • wes says:

Enright is injured I believe… tis not on the injury list, but on AFL game list it shows him out (ankle).
      for how long????
      take that in mind

  21. James says:

Need some help community, do I go polec to Bartel and get my def up to scratch or do I hold him and make some money with another trade elsewhere

    • throttlefinger says:

Bartel is a strong move on a scoring front and flexibility standpoint, as you'll now have a DPP/def in your midfield.

  22. throttlefinger says:

Excellent Barron. Smart move would be throwing the VC on Selwood and C on Pendles, yet may go Pendles VC and Danger C. Seems ripe for a big game, especially to make up for that brain fart at the end of Blues game.

    • Garglesnarf FC says:

I’m going Pendles into GAJ, cant see him playing two poor games in a row, and I reckon at least one of them will 150+.

  23. Fish says:

    Bartel or McVeigh VC?

    • wes says:

Interesting news is team line ups – Bartel named to start in fwd line.
after dominating last week, they are putting him in diff spot???
McVeigh is named to start on Steve Johnson
One might have gone for Bartel after last week, but with the change???
and McVeigh is not usually likely to give massive scores…
      – I'd ask who else you got?

      • Derek says:

Bartel played in guts because StevieJ was out.

      • wes says:

point to me really is I'd prefer him in def to fwd… simply to get more touches.
now, he was not going to get as much as last week anyways, but still…

  24. Cam says:

I’m going JPK into Ablett this week.

What’s the go with Enright? Does his recurring injury change Bews’ job security at all?

    • Garglesnarf FC says:

Enright should only miss a week, so not sure what security it gives Bews.

It will be interesting to see the game, or in my case listen to it as I am driving from Canberra to Melbourne tonight. Bews is more of a small defender type tahn Enright, expected to lay tackles, tag and get in an under, meaning he competes more with Christensen and to a lesser extent Smedts.

Enright is more the link man type, outside player who get rebound 50’s and a few marks each game.

      • dognino says:

I heard somewhere that he was being rested as they've had too many 6day breaks, and he's old

  25. Beady Eye says:

Torn this week between the value pick of Goddard and the fear that JPK may soon be beyond reach with another big one.

Sway me one way or the other community?

    • scooter says:

I went Goddard 150 k cheaper and will probably average only 5-10 points less per game the jpk

    • deadly says:

JPK will have a quiet game like GAZ last week, hopefully sooner rather than later, and his price will tumble for a short time.

  26. Chi says:

Hey guys, should I bring in Hurn or Birchall this week? Can't decide for the life of me.

  27. jeffrey says:

what to do with Corey Enright? should i trade him out but for who? i got $7,300 in the bank.

also i thinking to trade Sam Lloyd ($221,500) out for Shenton ($155,300)
    please help. thanks

    • chris says:

sam lloyd has a low breakeven and will rise in cash alot this week. leave him for a little bit

  28. Lethal says:

This week I've traded Polec to Goddard leaving me with 13 trades and only 1.3k in the chest. For the second trade I'm looking at bringing in Shenton for either Acres or Fasolo. Any thoughts on which one to get rid of would be appreciated.

    • Benno_S says:

Acres is listed as out for 6 was. Fasolo is playing. Take the points on offer now.

  29. wes says:

    Hello community

After thoughts on my team (I’ve not yet asked for opinons yet, so here goes)

DEF – Bartel, Swallow, McVeigh, Hooker, Sucking, Langdon (Georgiou, Clay Cameron)
MID – Steve J, Ablett, Beams, Swan, Cornes, Sam Gibson, Polec, Tyson (Jake Lloyd, Shenton)
RUC – Mummy and Sandi (Derickx and Longer)
FWD – Danger, Parker, Dahlhaus, Chapman, Elliot, S Higgins (s Lloyd, Charlie Cameron)
    Trades this week were:
    Out – Macrae + G Rohan
Ins – Shenton + Luke Parker

    Planned trades next week
    Out – Longer and Langdon
    Ins – K Simpson + the unknown ruc… Currie maybe…

Generally plan is I get collateral sitting on my benches and I am moving to finals mode and as much on my starting 22 as possible.
So clearing out the benches is the go
NB – am on afl fantasy this year. I get two trades a week, lose them if not used.

Currently ranked 11,000 of 177,000 – byes killed me as I was 2,600th before byes – going for the leagues wins, not total points

    cheers

    • wes says:

      should have read –

  30. Nik says:

Love to hear your thoughts on buddy v winghard. Who should I pick up to finish off my forward line?

  31. kingmen says:

    Hey guys,

Trying to figure out whether to bring in JPK or Barlow this week for polec?…thinking JPK might be down against the cats..

Also who should I trade out for Shelton – Lloyd/billings/acres/fasolo???

    Cheers guys

    • Beady Eye says:

With Freo's upcoming run I'd be leaning towards Barlow of the two.

    • Benno_S says:

I'd be trading out acres first as he's out for 6 was. If Lloyd is named, worth hanging onto with such a low (or is it negative) BE.

  32. Goku says:

    Hi all!!

I haven't really asked for help in here before but I am in a real pickle!! I have a few issues with my backs and forwards and not really sure who I should trade in or out this week … just going for league wins here … any help would be greatly appreciated!!

B: Swallow, Burgoyne, Enright, Hanley, Suckling, Langford (Cutler, Cameron)
M: Ablett, Pendles, Beams, Selwood, Johnson, fyfe, Cotchin, langdon (hartung, shenton)
    R: Sandis, Cox (Derickx, Thurlow)
F: Danger, Dusty, Dahlhaus, Rioli, Zorko, Taylor (Ambrose, Cameron)

Not sure if I should get rid of enright or rioli for better Premiums … or is that more of a sideways trade considering there only out for 1-2 weeks ?? I just have no idea lol

Was even thinking of downgrading Rioli to Franklin … Hes finally showing some good form and would give me some coin in the bank??

    Cheers fellow SC Feends

    • Benno_S says:

The whispers are that enright isn't that injured just being rested under the guise of injury so will hopefully be back next week. If you held rioli this long what's another week or two. If you're looking for coin, tex walker might be a better option than buddy. Personally, never had buddy and not going near him at this price. Have enright and will be holding him. Remember trades are precious especially if you've got less than 15 left.

  33. scano says:

    Langfors to bews
    Kelly to K.Mitchell

    OR

    Kelly to K.Mitchell
    Robertson to Shenton?

  34. Captain joc says:

Anyone need any advice I’ll try and awnser as much as possible

  35. Sully321 says:

    Hi community,
Who do I bring in out of bartel, Simpson, and mcveigh?

  36. kingmen says:

Hey guys any tips on my team would be helpful

    Backs:
K Simpson, d swallow, j bartel, n malceski, c hooked, t Langdon. Bench enright and Langford

    Mids:
Ablest, pendles, beams, selwood, Watson, m Murphy, Barlow, hallahan. Bench billings and acres

    rucks:
Sandi, Munford bench derricks and thurlow

    Forwards:
Danger, parker, martin, t lynch, fasolo, s Lloyd. Bench p Ambrose and c Cameron.

Have just traded polec for Barlow and want to bring in Shelton only $28300 left after this trade.

any ideas on other trades or who to swap to get in Shelton?

    Appreciate the help guys!

  37. dognino says:

Will currie play for the kangas this week? First player named on the extended bench. This is make or break for me in my league as I am low on trades , but also need to win as I've held pyke too long to trade out now
