Supercoach 2014 preseason podcast

Will you paint the fence with your trades this week?

Or will you deploy a double downgrade to take advantage of the plump succulent young livestock fit for slaughter?

These are just a few of the BIG issues facing the community this week.  Again members of the community have stepped up to the plate in this very special ANZAC Day Community podcast – lets get stuck right in.

  1. BCHawks says:

So excited to listen to this. Thanks Jock.

  2. Chook says:

Is it worth trading out Langford for cutler and upgrade hunter to griffin ?

  3. mightymicks says:

Time to tune in to some more wisdom from jock and the community, bloody best time of the week.

  4. Crowmagnon says:

    Thanks jock. Lest we forget.

  5. Aaron says:

Jock, what do you think of JPK this week? Good B/E, nice POD, great form and with Kieran Jack out against the Dees I expect him to get 150 plus. Any thoughts

    • Cameron says:

Brandon Jack is out, not Listen. Nevertheless,JKP has been playing well within the guts. Should be no different this week, should have a field day if anything vs Melbourne. Glad I’ve had him since round1!

      • Cameron says:

Brandon Jack is out, not kieren. Nevertheless,JKP has been playing well within the guts. Should be no different this week, should have a field day if anything vs Melbourne. Glad I’ve had him since round1!

    • judd0 says:

That sounds pretty fruitful to me Aaron, bit of a dark horse.
I get scary flash backs from previous years though with his inconsistency. But I like it

    • Aaron says:

I am such an idiot I thought Kieran was out haha but nevertheless I think I will take the punt this week and pray to god his form continues

    • The_Darwin_Ducks says:

I think its brandon jack who’s out not kieran but yes i think jpk could go big and i might look at getting him in

  6. mightymicks says:

Great question Stewart, was wondering about the same thing, think I want to go Langdon to St.Nick though,

  7. Cameron says:

Cutler named on bench, looking at who else is there(Taylor, Raines, Rockliff)…..Vest material, wouldnt get much better than that in the future IMO.
    Someone please disprove this!!!

  8. Stickers says:

Mumford > nicnat am I nuts? Please talk me out if it

    • Aaron says:

Wait and see if Nic Nat can lift his game up and become a bit more consistent before you take the punt. Mummy will we returning soon so might as well hold for a little longer.

    • throttlefinger says:

Yes. Don't do it. You've held out this long. You can hold out one more week. Save the trade and reap rewards of sticking fat with Mummy.

And yes, I'm doing the same.

      • Gilly says:

I agree Throttle, no point trading the big fella now, hopefully back next week. I have been able to use the emergency loophole with currie and Derickx. It’s gonna hurt this week having to rely on Derickx score

        • throttlefinger says:

Well Gilly, while you're suffering through Derickx score, just imagine me eating a donut for Currie and Mummy being out.

          Well played, sir.

          • General Soreness says:

Great minds (or complete madness) think alike. Copping the donut for mummy also still holding Titch but have coverage, they better be back next week. Double down seems more important especially this early in the year than plugging a hole for a week or two.

            • throttlefinger says:

Agree, General. When I kept look over ruck options, nothing seemed strong enough to waste a trade on. May come back to wish I'd trade but don't I'll regret it too much. As you said, other trades more important right now.

          • Gilly says:

Too generous Throttle, I think it’s a more a case of ass than class.

  9. canman1306 says:

    Few Rookie Dilemmas boys

Get on Fasolo or Lloyd or Neither
Think Fasolo can keep going and be this yeas Walker
Lloyd has Hawthorn and Geelong in his next 2 ten the bye so I don't think he will score well.

Also who is better option out of Robertson or Cutler?

    • Aaron says:

I went cutler personally, good defence downgrade options are going to be hard to come by this season.

    • WombatsFC says:

      Hi Canman,
Get on both Lloyd and Fasolo and then use 1 of them to upgrade to premium mid/for before the rnd 8 bye.

  10. Todd says:

Jock, what are your thoughts on Tom Mitchell and should I be worrying about getting cutler into my side

    • Jimihk says:

I have the exact same conundrum. Gutted with T Mitchell wasn't named today. Cutler looks the last of the decent DEF downgrades for a while, but if you're crafty with you cash could just directly upgrade your DEF rookies to premo in a couple of weeks without the need for a DEF downgrade.

  11. judd0 says:

    Tyson out
Dangerfield to Mids for a week or 2
Lloyd from Richmond in own forward, thoughts?
thinking I will trade out JKH in a week or 2 so then I can swap danger back into forward line

  12. zimmerbd says:

Didn't answer my tweet today, but the question was covered in tonights podcast. Thanks for that Jock. Have a good one.

  13. Mango says:

Great show as always Jock. Struggling to decide out of a couple of moves.
    1) Tyson out, Dunstan out, Taylor to midfield, JPK in and Lloyd in
    2) Tyson or Dunstan out and Jackson Merrett out, Taylor to midfield, Fasolo and Lloyd in and have 358K in the bank.
I've also got Josh Kelly in my team who's out with hamstring tightness so could move him out instead of tyson.

  14. jstocker59 says:

Cheers Jock – went the 1 up 1 down – paint the fence approach this week – Caddy to N. Riewoldt & Tyson to Robertson. Gives me five forward premiums in a line that has been killing me and still 365000 in cash. Kept Ellis to trade out for another midfield premo probably Griffen next week.

  15. rikko says:

who to cut to bring in Fyfe? Dunstan, Daisy Thomas or Dom Tyson? thoughts community?

    • Sulzeer says:

Daisy's BE of 77 is still pretty low, so I wouldnt trade yet, id prob look to move him on when Carlton have the bye, Dunstan plays an average at best Brisbane side, BE 87 isn't great and he probably wont get it but hes a better chance to get close to it over Tyson who has a BE of 98 and playing Sydney. Tyson for me,

  16. canman1306 says:

Thoughts on skipping Lloyd and Grabbing Robertson instead Takes My MBR Structure -> 9-6-15
    Aish-> Robertson is Locked
Do I use my second trade to go:
Tyson -> Griffen leaving me with 143K
Tyson -> Lloyd leaving me with 551K but means I will have to play one of Crouch/Robertson onfield
    Thoughts?

    • crowls says:

go cash option and risk possibly 50-60 points less this week. Or if you need to win your league game take griffen now

    • Cozza says:

Tyson>Lloyd for mine. Lloyd will generate great cash this week and you will be set for some nice bye round upgrades with that cash

  17. Caz says:

Hi jock and the community, thoughts about Tyson Down to Robinson and daisy thomas up to jpk or mcveigh.

  18. Rowdy says:

who would be the bigger priority Cutler (def) or Lloyd (fwd)

  19. Jimihk says:

As I suspect it is for many, this is a key round for me. I'm throwing myself at the mercy of the community. Should I double down, and if so which double down should I take? Or do I follow Crouching's wisdom and down up?

I already have $288,500 in the warchest, here's my options:

    1) Double down: Ellis to Robertson, swap Taylor FWD for T Mitchell, then Taylor for Lloyd. Leaves me with $526,900.
    2) Double down: trade Ellis, swing Langdon MID and bring in Cutler, trade taylor for Lloyd. Leaves me with $526,900.
    3) Down up: Ellis to Robertson, swap Taylor FWD for T Mitchell, then T Mitchell for J Selwood/Griffen or the like). Will leave me with between $230k – $350k.
    4) Down up: Taylor and Mitchell out for Lloyd and J Selwood/Griffen in. Leave me with between $150k – 270k.

Totally stumped on this one, but I'm sure to many of the community the path is clear.

    • Sulzeer says:

Dont touch Selwood, BE 180, Round 8 bye, after that is the time to snatch him up

Paint the fence, Griffen I cant see getting much cheaper, BE 100 this week, youd expect him to be able to get that comfortably

      • Jimihk says:

        Cheers Sulzeer.

I know the immediate issues with Selwood, but even though he has a huge BE, he's not projected to dip below 600k so I'm not too concerned. Looking as him as a season long keeper. The rd 8 bye is more concerning.

What's the deal with Griffen. I know he torn it up for a couple of months last year and then fell away. He's really tempting at his price but I'm just not sold that he will be a top 8 MID come the GF. Does anyone know what his issues were/are?

        • Sulzeer says:

I was the same last week with Petrie, i took him at 414k, thinking he would get close to his BE but he didnt… but he will come good, stick by your premiums..

Griffen didn't have much of a preseason, if any, averaged 116 last season from 20 games, not the worst run in at the end of the season Saints, North, Swans and GWS in final game of season at Etihad, could be important if your in your league GF, hes a proven premo and a POD

        • Matt says:

Don't see what you mean about Griffen to be honest, he was dominant all season, not for just a couple of months? Averaged 116.

          • Jimihk says:

Yeah he did have a great year but you have to look a little past that average.

From round 7 to 15 he absolutely tore it up averaging almost 139. For the second half of the season he dropped down to an average of 102. Still great don't get me wrong but if he's just going to average around 102 this year then I'd rather go with Selwood (despite his immediate drawbacks). As I don't follow the dogs that closely and given his slow start I just wanted some insight as to what people are expecting from him this year

    • canman1306 says:

I like both Down Ups. Just depends what Rookie Selection you want

      • Jimihk says:

Cheers canman, it'll be Lloyd if I have to choose. I'm just concerned about letting a good rookie slip past this week with so few on the horizon.

  20. MTt says:

Who to put on the field,

    Cutler, langford?

Going away this weekend, and hoping cutler isnt sub

  21. @HJ_Mitch says:

Deep thoughts and memories with the podcast, Jock. Imust admit I never went up to the top of Olivers Hil with thoughts in my mind about SuperCoach. It was alway about the bird I was with … but that's another story.
Aah the memories, one of the birds from Toorak College was double jointed!
    Anyway, I digress.
I am enthused that that the three boys I have a background with are high up in the SuperCoach estimations.
    1. Liuke McDonald – keep. He has always been a doer and will never give in.
    2. Tom Cutler – always has had the class but needed to get to the top level to perform at his best. Keep
    3. Jack Billings – the best I coached. Premium silk. Forget him at your peril.

Anyway, that's all. I'm lying back now and thinking about Olivers Hill and Toorak College.
    Oh, the memories…..

  22. Blake says:

    Currie out! Oh no :(

Cop a doughnut or make a trade? (Sandi Mumford Currie Longer)

    • SCaddict says:

You've come this far with Mummy I think you have to stay the course and pray to the fantasy footy gods that he is back next week as the Giants seem to be indicating.

But geez I hope he can repay the faith you've shown in him.

  23. Bray says:

Who would be a better option to get in Cutler, or Robinson.?

    • Blake says:

Robertson has much better job security. He'd be my pick

      • Bray says:

Cheers mate just thinking with the lack of upcoming defenders and a few mids to still debut or rise in price (Honeychurch, Hallahan, etc) that I should jump on cutler now and down grade one of my miss to a Honeychurch in the coming weeks.?

        • crowls says:

Agree with second option. I am in same boat. Need to move clurey, rohan on and dead set keen on robertson. Cant do it all. So did clurey to cutler, rohan to lloyd and boy does the team look so much better. Still have mcdonald/langdon for one mid bench spot and ellis in the other.

Next week. ellis/tyson/langdon/tmitch as possible upgrades for prem mids or prem def.
may have to oneup one down. as only have 250 in the bank.

        • Beady Eye says:

I reckon the way around this is to prioritise getting a premium defensive line ASAP.

Use the cash generated from the ongoing stream of rookie mids to upgrade in defence while downgrading in midfield (rather than downgrading all over the field).

  24. Ocker says:

MAGNIFICENT PODCAST JOCK, The memories of fallen friends and mates hit home again, The Last Post reduced me to tears once more.
I will compose myself and come back online for a while when I do.
Don't think I will sleep tonight with the parade tomorrow.

    LEST WE FORGET.

    • @HJ_Mitch says:

All the best, Ocker. Have a great day…

      • Ocker says:

Thanks bloke, It is but it isn't if you know what I mean.
I would like to think that we have made Australian lives better, Though we have suffered ourselves for your benefit and future.
        Good Onya.

        • Dools says:

Hey , mate Some of us made it back and we are more then willing to share the burden with you
Afghanistan was my playpen….Some cuts and burs.
Some Soldiers I will never Forget- Gone now. But they where the sum of the best of us….See you at a Cenotaph some where eh??

          • Ocker says:

Onya Dools, Will think of you while I am there, A Mate has a son just back from Afghanistan for a surprise before Christmas, Turned up on Christmas day. (Air Corp)

            Cheers Bloke.

          • jockreynolds says:

Hats well and truly off to you Dools old friend. I'm thinking of you and your lost mates today and hope that the day is a good one for you mate. Lest We Forget,

    • jockreynolds says:

Ocker mate – I'm so honoured to have you here mate and I'm tickled pink the podcast moved you mate. A significant day – no doubt about it.

      LEST WE FORGET

  25. Ando says:

Xav Ellis for Swan or Swallow?
Just thinking that getting Swallow means i can have Tommy Langdon in the guts giving me an extra degree of freedom when the byes hit.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

    • @HJ_Mitch says:

Ando, I've got Swallow. I am very happy with him.

    • SCaddict says:

Think Swan is probably the better value right now especially when you are just comparing him against another Rd8 bye player.

Also would give you a POD as plenty have Swallow and not that many have Swanny right now though that is a two pronged blade.

However Swallow has been a rock of premium consistency and needs to be in all our defences at some point so it's a tough call.

  26. Gazza says:

    Ellis > Billings
    Dunstan > Lloyd

Was going to run with Robinson instead of Billings but thinking that Billings has a higher ceiling

    • throttlefinger says:

Hey Gazza. Was considering the same for Ellis but Robertson's price and job security outweighs the one good game and DPP that Billings has. Also think Billings will be a better player in long run but physically Robertson is built like brick shithouse and heard engine is strong for his age.

Also feel you could get some more moola from Dunstan. If you can wait until the bye to cull, may give you just that extra amount to get that extra special prem.

      • Gazza says:

Dunstan seems prime for the picking. Has a BE of 87 and will only make another 20-30k prior to the bye rounds/slaughter rounds.
On listening to the podcast again and with yourself echoing the Billings concerns that Jock has I'll go with Flipper instead
        Cheers

      • Ocker says:

You cannot go past Robertson this week.
Billings I have looked at very closely and may come into my team LATER. Give him another week he wont go up as much as Robertson, Unfortunately I have to stay with Dunstan this week but not disappointed with that as I have Ellis and Thomas out and have to do the double down to Robertson and Lloyd.

        Throttle right again.

        Cheers.

        • throttlefinger says:

Hey Ocker! Very interesting thought of bringing in Billings later. Given the rook desert that we'll be living in soon, that could be a very clever way of trading down a wore-out rook.

          • Ocker says:

Goodaye Throttle, Just stuck this week with team selections.
Have Ellis and Matt Thomas not playing this week so have to replace with rookies for cash generation coming into byes. Was seriously thinking no Lloyd but that would be stupid. Can cope with one more less on-field for round 8. Team has to be set and forget for the weekend because I will not be in any condition to worry about SC. (Anzac Dawn Ceremony)

            Cheers Bloke.

            • throttlefinger says:

Please pardon my Yankee ignorance, but what takes place at a Anzac Dawn Ceremony?

Brought in Pav and Robertson. Some money for next week to replace Caddy and probably Langdon. Holding onto Mummy with hopes that he's back next week.

  27. BlueBalls FC says:

    G'day there Jock

    Loved the podcast'

I have michie in the mids doing nothing? Do you think I need to address that or just leave him there?

Also, looking at the rookie options, I am sold on Lloyd, but in the mids I'm convinced that paying a little extra to get Crouch into my team is the way to go. Gives me another week to look at Robertson and he'll only rise about 50k

    Thanks in advance

  28. Jon says:

Thanks Jock, a wonderful podcast. Whilst this was covered briefly in the podcast, I have a bit of a dilemma thanks to Danger's massive 192 last week. I always thought that Danger's starting price was a bit high for round 1 and was hoping to pick him up in round 9. However, his 192 and weak draw for the next two weeks means he may well go back up to his starting price – or even higher. So should I trade Matt Thomas for Danger whilst his price is low but risk another zero in round 8, or pick up another slightly fallen premium in McVeigh? Thanks.

    • @HJ_Mitch says:

Jon, whatever way you look at a mirror, it will never change it's view of you. Danger is an elite player and will challenge Gary Ablett this year. Danger could do anything. You have to have him. End of story.

      • Ocker says:

Depends on team structure and League or overall win.
Current form cannot replace Class. (That is why you pick premiums)

        Cheers.

    • SCaddict says:

That's exactly why everyone had to start with Danger and Gaz even if we thought in the preseason they may have been overpriced. Both guys are capable of monster scores that you just don't want to miss out on.

Trying to bring these guys in pre bye is a very tricky affair due to their price and their early Rd8 bye, especially when we are dealing with all these other issues such as injured players, must have rookies, under performing premos, bye dilemmas etc.

I made a similar call not starting with Pendles and as well as he's scored in the first 5 rounds I remain committed to bringing him AFTER the bye.

So I wouldn't mess up your structure since the byes are only a fortnight away now and therefore think McVeigh would probably be the smarter pick at this time. But yes it will be painful if Danger does go 180 plus in Rd 6 or 7.

  29. skate or die says:

tom mitchell is no where to be found. where's tom mitchell? trade or save?

    • Gold Rush says:

I traded him, with Mummy on the bench had to make the move unfortunately as I wanted to get Cutler in – but it should work out OK. Here's the deal – I got R Gray to replace Titch, Gray is forecast to appreciate 31K, Cutler is forecast for a 39K increase. Down 8K – But Langdon whom I will replace with Cutler next week is foretasted to increase 10K. Grey will be a keeper and hopefully Cutler can add another 100K on top of this weeks increase before I exterminate him.

  30. throttlefinger says:

These Thursday podcasts are outstanding! Sunday podcast is the grand, big meal that gives you much to chew on and days to properly digest. Thursday is the after meal digestif. A community-driven Sambuca. Gives the things you've been chewing on a final appreciation to make those next moves go down smoothly.

Well done, Jock. Well done community.

  31. Bellybuttonfluff says:

Josh Kelly trade? Hammy tightness? Is now like ambrose in thinking he'll be back anytime but never will?

    • SCaddict says:

No Josh Kelly is definitely a walk up starter for the Giants so shouldn't be a priority trade out in my estimation, if you have cover. He probably has at least another $50K to make. Doesn't sound like his hammy issue is that serious either.

However Ambrose's JS is much more doubtful now that Bellchambers and Ryder are back in the fold. I'll be swapping him for Lloyd tomorrow.

    • Jimihk says:

Even if Ambrose does get back into the side, I wouldn't expect his spot to be safe unless Essendon have an injury crisis.

  32. thhhh says:

Why is no one addressing Darcy Gardiner….. but with Gardiner named, does this help Cutler? (avoid the vest? maybe push up in to mids a bit further?) Or does it hinder? More likely to get the vest/sub etc.

    • Ocker says:

Gardiner is on my radar and waiting to see if he actually plays because I can't get Cutler into my team this week due to other forced trades to field 22 players.
Gardiner is Not forgotten but not on bubble.

      Cheers.

  33. Peter says:

I'm stuck in a bit of a mumford situation
I could just keep currie and take a 0 this week and hope that mummy is back next week, i do have a league bye, or I could trade in nic nat for currie and have good quality bench cover for the rest of the year including the byes and when sandi either goes down or gets rested during sc finals
    Thoughts would be appreciated

    • throttlefinger says:

Hey Peter. In same situation. Considered NicNat. But go check out Mummy's points. He's been out for what, 2 rounds and is not far behind the others in total points.

Here's a brash point…there really aren't any premium rucks. Jacobs is doing better than last year. And is steady. But he's not putting out prem out like Minson and Goldie were last year. Who has? Mummy. Yes, he's injury prone but when he comes back, I'd be very surprised as a solo ruck he goes lower than 90 only 1-2 the rest of the season.

I'm eating donuts this week so I can get fat scores later. Blows but taking Higgo's advice and thinking long term. And be nice to have the leading ruck as a POD, too.

      • SCaddict says:

Ha ha yes I liked your 'donut @ the Mummy Diner' tweet. I guess if we can't laugh then we have to cry.

Hopefully the big lug is back with a vengeance next weekend and can repay your long suffering faith!

        • throttlefinger says:

Thanks SCaddict. Even if he does good but not great, I'll be happy with sticking with him.

As Wattsie said, it's a game so it should be enjoyed. Trying to keep that in mind when players pull an Ellis and get a 2.

      • Peter says:

Nah im keeping mummy either way im just considering bringing in nic nat for currie so i have 3 premo ish rucks in sandi mummy and nic nat for the rest of the year. If I do it I'll be able to play a loophole for the rest of the year as well as having quality bench cover for when ross lyon strikes at the end of the year.
Thanks for the input though :)

        • throttlefinger says:

Funny I was considering doing the same. Not this round but after I get Caddy and cull some of my R8s. In fact I may bring him in R8 for Currie.

  34. Dools says:

I have done something a wee bit different…..I moved Caddy to midfield pine and moved Langdon to the same bench…Hmmmm Now I can mov 5 Def players to mids and 4 Fwds to the mids….Unfortunately I have no other mids to move to either line …..Bu that's another Trade for next week……..

  35. Brandon2416 says:

Who should I trade out for roberstson: Aish, Taylor or dale Thomas

    • SCaddict says:

You may as well maximise your cash (and therefore your options in subsequent weeks) by offloading Daisy.

He also has the significantly higher BE of the three plus a Rd9 bye compared to Rd10 for the other two.

  36. Anonymous says:

    Higgins-lloyd
    Ellis-robertson

Midfield has 5 premiums. Higgins is my fwd no4?

    • Anonymous says:

      Leaves me with 500k

    • SCaddict says:

I'd probably keep Higgo (and will be doing so myself) but the other trade looks great. He could prove very useful for swapping with Roughie or Wingard in a couple of weeks.

Is there any other way you can get Lloyd in? Who are your F5 to F8?

  37. jkh says:

Which of these two should be a priority to trade out? Matt Thomas, James Aish, Jackson Merrett and Tom Langdon! cheers

    • Jimihk says:

IMO Matt Thomas would be the priority since he's injured and has the rd 8 bye, but on the upside he still has a pretty low BE.

From the others it'd be between Jackson Merrett who due to lose cash or Langdon who has just about plateaued and also has the rd 8 bye.

Aish is still going up a little in price and but more importantly has a rd 10 bye, so I plan to hold him until then.

    • Ocker says:

Matt Thomas not playing this week and has round 8 bye, Langdon is also round 8 bye and about cooked in my opinion but has to stay another week due to more pressing concerns with my team.
Depends a bit on your considered trade ins and bye structure.

      Cheers.

  38. Captain joc says:

Anyone think that gold steins point scoring will go up now that currie is out?

  39. Captain joc says:

Need some help from the community I’m doubling down this week
Option 1. Trade Ellis to Robertson and then Tyson to cutler via Langdons dpp (if Langdon isn’t the sub)
Option 2. Trade Ellis to Robertson and Langdon to cutler (if Langdon is sub)
Option 3. Trade Ellis to Robertson and Tyson to Lloyd via Taylor’s dpp
A couple of key notes tho I have tom Mitchell so I’m gonna have to take a JKH or Taylor/Lloyd score will loophole them
Should I trade Tyson or Dunstan
I’m keeping Matt Thomas for loop holing in Mids/ I think he hads more money to make

    • Bruds says:

Tyson won't get a 99 which is his break even but i can see Dunstan getting close to his 88 against Brisbane and then he should go up in value again before his bye
I'd pick option 3 because Lloyd is going up in value the most this week most likely and has decent job security whereas Cutler doesn't

  40. Adam says:

Okay community, in a bit of strife in what trades to do, I don't usually post my team but what the hell

    DEF:Swallow,Bartel,Birchall,McDonald,Langdon,Laidler(Cameron,Georgio)
MID:Ablett,Pendles,Beams,Dal Santo, Fyfe, Tyson, Polec, Dunstan(Goddard,Kelly)
    RUC:Sandi,Lobbe(Currie,Nankervis)
    FOR:Danger,Zorko,Martin,Merrett,Taylor,Lloyd(Impey,Ambrose)
    I have a few options
    1:Tyson – Robertson,Kelly – Fasolo (267k)
    2:Langdon – Cutler, Tyson – Robertson (442k)
    3:Tyson – Robertson, Kelly – Griffen (34k)
    4:Tyson – Robertson, Kelly – Pavlich(88k)
    5:Tyson – Robertson, Langdon – Jaench (51k)
Leaning towards option 1 or 4, unsure on curlers chance of the sub vest
Kicking myself HARD for trading all of honey church, cutler and Hanley in the first couple of rounds…..

    Cheers!

    • Sputnik says:

Easy. Tyson – Crouch, and Kelly – Fasolo ( put Taylor in mids ). Then youre fwd line is set for a month or so and your mids will be OK for a little bit. Then in a couple weeks depending on Goddards injury you could trade him to Honeychurch (depending on how he goes) and get Mcveigh/Mithcell/Hanley in your backline for Langdon

    • Beady Eye says:

Leaning towards option 5, as Kelly still has cash to be milked, while Langdon is about due for the cull.

  41. Simon says:

    Hi jock and Supercoaches.

A few dilemmas this week. Do I keep Mummy and Currie and cope a donut in the ruck this week? My other options are to trade Cameron (GC) to Cutler as have no bench coverage in defence or Jackson Merrett to Fasolo only to make some cash and improve scoring. Any thoughts/advice much appreciated.

    • Rescued Pieman says:

Tricky one Simon. I dont expect to see Currie playing anytime soon. I think he was exposed last week. I think cash generaton should be a priority this week. Fasolo from Merrett is sideways, what about Lloyd. And maybe Mummy to someone cheaper. He's had knee surgery & will have lost conditioning.

  42. ray hill says:

    Griffen or swan

  43. scooter says:

    Cutler or gardner

    • Rescued Pieman says:

Good point. Cutler could be sub today. He's named on the pine. Gardener is named on the ground. It's awkward today because Langdon plays first. He coud be sub as well. I'm getting Nick Robertson & waiting next week on these 2.

      • scooter says:

Cutler on the bubble was sub first round and could be sub again gardener not sub first game and on field today thinking I mite pick up Lloyd and Roberton and hold Langdon to next week for gardener will give me 600 k comin into byes without weakening my structure

        • Beady Eye says:

Worth considering also the roles both rookies play: Cutler is a utility/third tall, Gardiner is a fullback.

Can't see Leppa making a fullback his starting sub; the risk is that he starts onfield and cops the vest later. Greater chance of this with Merrett back also.

Sub is between Cutler and Taylor I reckon.

  44. Rescued Pieman says:

If you have a look at Collingwood's bench today Fasolo, Ball, Witts, Langdon. Langdon could very well be the sub & lose cash this week. The obvious trade is Cutler, but he could be the sub as well. If Langdon is sub I think he has to be traded. But make sure you have cover in case Cutler is as well.

    • Beady Eye says:

Good call. Might hold off on that second trade to see if it's Langdon that needs the chop.

  45. jockreynolds says:

Heads up community – a few among us have seen service. Dools and Ocker – you are in my and the communities thoughts today. Lest We Forget,

    • Rescued Pieman says:

Here here Jock. Iv'e been looking forward to this day for quite some time. Not just to see my beloved Pies play but to spend the day with my 5 year old boy & for him to see & me too explain the significance of the day. Lest we forget.

    • Gilly says:

Absolutely Jock. A magnificent contribution from the boys. Truly grateful for their efforts.

  46. Stewart says:

Can anyone tell me what's going on with Tom Mitchell ? Doesn't seem to be injured yet omitted for the squad?

  47. Dan says:

Any word on the Matt Thomas injury? Severity? How long could he possibly be out for?

  48. sam says:

    is fasolo still worth getting?

    • SCaddict says:

Sort of. You've missed a big chunk of his cash generation already but if you need his onfield points to replace say a Titch then it's worth considering. Personally I wouldn't bother switching him for say Higgins though as he still has a bit more cash to make.

But I still think bringing in players like Lloyd, Flipper and Cutler are the priorities this week and likely to earn you the larger cash hauls at this point in time as unfortunately we can't travel back into the past.

  49. Jn101 says:

    i have 25 trades and 350k.

should i be using two trades and going mcdonough to llyod or even langdon to cutler, and for the second trade upgrade either tyson or dunstan to one of pendlebury, selwood, watson or griffin.

the problem I'm having is that the premiums i want to upgrade to have really high BE and i feel like i could be waiting another week.

    please help!

    • Beady Eye says:

With those targets in mind, I'd be looking at a double downgrade this week.

Like the Lloyd trade, but would see if you can swing Langdon into your mids and grab Flipper Robertson instead of Cutler – better JS.

    • SCaddict says:

Based on that info I'd go McDonut to Lloyd and Tyson to Flipper and then do a double upgrade the following week when the likes of Jelwood, Jobe, Pendles, Roughnuts, Wingard, Hanley et al are cheaper.

Griffen shouldn't change too much in price either if you wait another week and instead set up your cash cows this round.

  50. jontyone says:

    Hey community need your help!
I've got sdt suspended this week and the non playing Clurey on the bench. I have to ply Georgiou and Langdon atm which isn't great. What should I do?

  51. Dom says:

    Sam Gray or Robertson?

  52. Tom says:

I think Mumford has let us down and for a player with a history of injury problems, yes he might come back next week but I just feel he might struggle now for the rest of the year with nagging problems. I've made the tough call to trade him out with two big league games coming up and the risk of a zero too big. Warnock comes in which makes me money + he has been solid the last few games and is looking fit.

    Lloyd comes in for Rohan.

  53. Mozz says:

Majak Daw will be the next breakout player. He'll score 100+ tonight against Freo. Watch this space….

  54. Donut_King says:

Hi community! Need some questions on my team regarding trades.
    1. Can Aish go now?
    2. Have Mitchell and am eyeing off Swan and Griffen. The only thing is he is in my forward line and I would have to switch him with Lewis Taylor. This would leave me with Lloyd and Fasolo on the field. Is this ok?
    3. I could just go Mitchell to Robbie Gray who looks good.
    4. Mitchell, Aish or Langdon? Who should I trade. (Already traded Xavier Ellis to Robertson)
    Thanks everyone.

  55. Evan says:

    Hey Community,

Quite confused about the approach I should take this week with $460K in the chest atm. Only looking at league win so happy to hold Mummy for another week.

DEF: Swallow, McVeigh, Mitchell, Hanley, McDonald, Kolodjashnij (McDonald, Langford)
MID: Cotchin, Murphy, Beams, Macrae, Crouch, Polec, Dunstan (Tyson, Aish)
    RUC: Sandi, Mummy (Currie, King)
FOR: Danger, Martin, Wright, Roughead, Higgins, Fasolo (JKH, Rohan)

    A number of options available:
    – Rohan to Lloyd is the obvious one but holding Rohan won't hurt points wise so could wait for a premo upgrade in the next few weeks…
    – One of Tyson, Dunstan or Aish to Lloyd via looping Danger or Martin to mids opening a swing set (no forward – mid swing atm). Then trading one of the remaining 2 to N.Robertson…
    – Or I could go for the 1 up, 1 down and bring in a premo (swan, griffin, pavlich). 2 downgrades would leave me $600-800K cash moving forward which is enticing with the likes of Selwood & Watson dropping the next couple..

Not sure on Cutler in terms of JS…

    Thoughts Guys?

  56. Tman says:

    Good folks

At the risk of copping some community wrath, decided to forgo cuttler for langdon.

    Trades for the week

    Tyson -> Robertson
    S Frost -> Fasolo

Just had to get cover for Titchell. WIth Ambrose and Frost on the bench. Hanging onto mummy and Titchell for another week. Def less of a concern with Mitchel, McVeigh, Swallow, Hanley, Jensch, Grifith (Langford & Langdon)

With M crouch named on bench, not sure if I should name robertson on the field.

Would love any advice feedback .

  57. Jake says:

Hi Guys which two do I put on the field out of Taylor, Langdon, Flipper and Honeychurch? Pls Help!

  58. Derek says:

I’m going to risk a wombat bite and take a different path.

    Travis Cloke

He is $350k. He looked very good last week. He averages 101 against essendon, he has pendlelbury and beams in career best form and swan starting to come good delivering the ball to him. Collingwood start the easiest part of their draw after next week. He has BE 58 plus he will drop the 33 he had in round 3 after next week so he will make cash (almost at rookie level).

I have impey, JKH and ambrose filling my F6 spot giving me worries. Cloke as a fallen premium can fill that spot.

Anyone else going to get their socks wet and risk a Wombat bite?

    • Tman says:

A the price it is tempting. But I will stick to staying clear of key forwards as much as can.

One week of high fives and 3 weeks of banging my head agaist the wall i think. But go with your instincts, nice POD and avg likely to be high 80s at the lowest.

      • Rescued Pieman says:

I’m with Tman on this one. But I admire your sizable plumbs. Hope you don’t end up in a padded cell.

        • Derek says:

Last week collingwood went to Cloke 43% of the time, swan is playing well as is pendles and beams, he is going to get plenty of opportunity.

At $350k he is likely to increase in value, couple of 90+ games and he will increase $80k as is round 3 and 4 scores drop out of calculation. That sort of price rise is what you would expect from a Rookie. If he does have a couple of good weeks, he will be an awkward price to get in.

I like what Jock said, get someone in to score points, I have a problem at F6 that could be filled by Lloyd, but I just don’t see him scoring as well as Cloke.

  59. Tom.H says:

CUTLER OR ROBERTSON!? Please can someone just say who out of the two will have the better scoring output?

    • Beady Eye says:

Probably equal in terms of scoring potential, but Flipper would have much better JS. Hanley and Merrett back into the team raises questions over how secure Cutler spot in the team is.

    • Derek says:

Out of those 2 I would go Cutler. I think flipper will score better but how often does a good rookie Defender come along? There will be plenty more rookies who are better than flipper come later in season you can jump on, not many rookie defenders

  60. jontyone says:

Hey community who should I get? 540k for a defender, already have mcveigh, sdt, mitchell

    • Rescued Pieman says:

Wait for Hanley to drop in price next week Jonty. Huge BE & round 10 bye

    • Beady Eye says:

Hanley if you can wait a week or two, Jaensch if you need it now.

    • SCaddict says:

Yeah I like Pieman's idea and have plans to pick him up in a couple of weeks myself when he bottoms out with that 35 in his pricing for a while yet.

The other two to consider are Swallow and Jaensch who are yet to record a sub 100 score yet. Although both have Rd8 byes their clubs have tasty immediate draws and not too much structural damage would be done if you upgraded a Rd8 bye rookie like Langdon to one of these two right now.

  61. BCHawks says:

Hey guys I need some help. What trades should I make? I have 275,000 in my bank and I was thinking of going Tyson to Robertson but I also wanted to get Lloyd in so I am not sure what to do? Thanks in advance.

    • Beady Eye says:

Swing one of your MID/FWD players into the midfield and trade Tyson > Lloyd.

Cunningham or Aish could then become Flipper, if that's the way you want to go.

    • Rescued Pieman says:

Don’t know when Ambrose will be back. And when he does he could be in the two’s. So I’d cull him to Lloyd. You’ll make heaps of cash quickly. Tyson to Robertson maybe. Or maybe upgrade him & grab flipper next week.

  62. Tom.H says:

IMO, those who will rise will be those that upgrade their mid rookies to a real POD that most people won't have. If everyone on this site is going to go with Ryan Griffin, then he's not a real POD anymore. This also goes for Dane Swan. So really looking for someone different.

    Thoughts RE:
    Stevie J
    Nathan Jones
    R Sloane
    O.Wines
    S.Sidebottom
    J.Redden
    A.Treloar
    M.Duncan
    B.Cunnington

Anyone else having the same thoughts as me? Or am I just digging myself into an early grave. Thanks community

    • Rescued Pieman says:

Stevie J & Sloane great options. But like every good player it seems they have the round 8 bye

    • Jimihk says:

Consistently high scoring PODs players don't last as PODs for long thanks to SC gold etc. You've gotta go with you gut to keep identifying the quality PODS if you want to stay ahead of the curve. Having said that, if you don't get Griffen or Swan you're going to come up against a lot of teams who have them and that could come back to bite you.

    • WombatsFC says:

I have mitch Duncan and he has been a great POD this year

  63. tomscoach says:

Robertson, Aish or Cunnigham to start m8?

  64. Litt up says:

mcdonough into lloyd and tyson into watson? considering that watson doesn't have the round 8 bye and has the same bye as tyson

  65. Cameron says:

    Cale Hooker.

  66. Beady Eye says:

Hmmm to take the punt on Zach Merrett on field or not… or use the fallback option in JHK.

  67. Michael says:

Langdon not the starting sub today folks, Josh Thomas is.

  68. Shaun says:

Need to get two out of Flipper, Cutler an Lloyd??

    • Tom.H says:

I'm in the same boat as you. I've gone with Lloyd and Cutler, not for scoring output but for structure and thinking ahead. With this in mind, i went with a trade option that was mentioned in the podcast.
Ellis –> Cutler (move langdon down into mids)
Langdon –> Lloyd (move Taylor up into mids)

  69. Tom.H says:

Trade out Matt Thomas or Langdon?

  70. Josh says:

    Best JS Cutler or Robertson?

  71. Sputnik says:

so who will be sub today? cutler or robertson? thanks

  72. General McArthur says:

Riding the SC slippery slide. Need some traction….
    Bringing in Crouch for Ellis
and have Dunstan n Tyson stalling like most of us.
Brought Merrett in after his 130 hoping to coin up a bit but his 2 average scores has killed that.
My questions for the community is:
Crouch in for Ellis or either Tyson/Dunstan
LLoyd in for Merrett or TMitch or move Taylor to mid for Tyson and Lloyd straight in FWD.

  73. Josh says:

poss trades today, Yeh or Neh

    1) Ambrose to Lloyd
    2) Langdon to Cutler (Thinking of rnd 8 bye)

    • Tom.H says:

Langdon to Cutler is a really good trad e
      Unsure about Ambrose to Lloyd

    • WombatsFC says:

Ambose isn't playing and Lloyd will increase by at least 30k even if he breaks his leg running through the banner.
Cutler will probably get the subs vest and his price increase will be minimal even if he scores 70 he wont go up by more than 30k but the week after he'll go up by another 50k (due to his first sub20 score not being in his rolling average)
So, get Lloyd this week (the bloke has kicked 100 goals at senior level, he can play) and then if Cutler is named the following week get him. However, I think the team structure will see Gardiner get more time than Cutler (teams aren't picked based on supercoach points) over the coming weeks.

  74. Gary says:

Is it a good idea to get in both m.crouch and s.lloyd this week for langdon and tyson?
Have i missed the boat on crouch or will he average more points than say, a robertson to justify a higher price?

    • WombatsFC says:

Crouch is a value purchase but if your midfield is loaded with Pies, Suns, Tigers, Cats and other Crows he could give you a round 8 headache. Also, despite scoring well in SC his JS doesn't appear to be assured.
ATMO Robertson is more valuable to Brisbane than Crouch is to Adelaide and relieves some round 8 pressure.

I wouldn't have either as on field players

  75. General McArthur says:

Short of time before the bounce…doh! Need help please community

LLoyd in for J.Merrett or T.Mitchell??? or
swap Taylor to MID for Tyson then slip Lloyd in to FWD??

    • WombatsFC says:

The Tyson trade makes the most sense

      • General McArthur says:

        Thanks Wombat.
So you reckon Mitchell worth holding??..gonna drop $40+K whenever he returns. Brought Merrett in chasing score and coin n it flew back in my face. 70s more his thing. Wasted trade. After a dip I thought Tyson may have a touch more to rise n trade bye time. My aim next week is to have some good $$ to grab fallen premiums ie swan griffen nic nat mcveigh etc.

        • WombatsFC says:

          Hi GMac,
Nah Mitchell should only be handled with asbestos gloves but if he's playing he'll score better than Tyson IMO. I recycled him last week for Fasolo and this week I'm stuck with Boomer b.e 180+ price drop around 50k.

          • General McArthur says:

Kept J.Merrett in ignoring my little voice. Not made trade yet. Its now up to the SC gods on him. I'm playing my pie mate n through injuries n suspensions hes a few good players ahead of me. I got Fasolo last week but balanced it with dropping Webster (90) for Suckling (60) instead of Crouch (100) in for Ellis (2). Lost by 30SC and missed coinage. Only took a few days to get over not listening to voice that time. Ha

  76. Bellybuttonfluff says:

It was very hard decision to make, but had to let Lloyd go already have 4 round 8 byes. So upgraded Langdon to hibberd hope it pays. Good luck everyone

    • WombatsFC says:

you can make 2 trades why not get both? At least one of 4 other round 8 bye fwds can be upgraded after round 7?

      • Bellybuttonfluff says:

Oh yeah traded out Ellis for Robinson. Also got 4 round 8 byes in mids too so if I pick up an injury I may not be able to trade out the problem later. Cheers for comment though :)

  77. Derek says:

I am risking a wombat bite and bringing Cloke in.

  78. Pete says:

held onto langdon for an extra week, stoked about that call… what a second quarter. go pies

  79. Cozza says:

Cutler has been named as sub…locks in Robertson as my trade in!

  80. piewood1 says:

Great win pies, best Collingwood comeback for in 15 years. decided to keep Langdon for one more week but traded out X Ellis for Robertson….. Must be a lot of you burnt by Fasolo?

    • WombatsFC says:

I don't think a comeback against the bombers is a great achievement afterall the only team that haven't managed to do the same against bombers this year is Carlton; even the Saints made the bombers look rubbish.
As for Fasolo he'll still go up in value 10-30k despite his 29. He was only ever a stepping stone to a real player and I'll just make the upgrade 1 week sooner than planned.

  81. Donut_King says:

    What's more important:
    Tom Mitchell to Robbie Gray
    Or
    Mathew Lobbe to Sam Jacobs?

    • piewood1 says:

I'm holding on to Mitchell as I think he still has something to offer…..So Jacobs simply because he is a proven premium.

    • Kenny Powers says:

Sauce has the bye R8 with Lobbe R9 .. reckon Lobbe has the potential to put up a solid (perhaps not premium) score this week as he plays slightly lower rated rucks from Geelong and then has GWS the week after. Trade him bye week – Lobbe out and Sauce in his post bye. Robbie Gray has the potential to score big as he is a goal kicker, runs through the middle and generally takes plenty of marks. Think his low mark is probably about a 70 so reckon he'll easily outscore Tichell for the remainder of the season. His only drawback is his history of injury. Been looking real good though in his second year back from a knee reco.

  82. piewood1 says:

The amazing Zorko 98 supercoach points till half time
    Riewoldt 16 ouch!

  83. WombatsFC says:

WTF! Half way through 3rd qrtr and Dunstan is outscoring Rockliff and Darcy Gardiner is outscoring Saint Nick

  84. Kenny Powers says:

Great podcast as usual .. however, nowhere near enough WHOOSHKA's for me Jock!!

  85. john snow says:

Didn't get to see todays game. What happended to fasolo?

I wanted to bring in swan too. Just didn't think it was good with having him with pendles and beams

    • Kenny Powers says:

Reckon Swan will still be a gettable price post his bye R8

      • Benno_S says:

I had the Sam thought about swan with the same concern. Looking at his score this week I think I might bite the bullet next week and bugger the bye. If he pulls out another 140 next week he'll be pushing 600k again very soon

  86. Pete says:

i wanna punch leppa in his leppa head… best player needs to be in the guts. Put Rockliff in the middle you complete Spud!

  87. canman1306 says:

So I Traded out Aish (140) and Langdon (90) For Cutler (46) and Lloyd yeah great Trades Should of just traded Tyson and Dunstan like First Thought!

  88. Marcus j says:

Got fyfe sitting on a ton at half time. Praying he pulls a dangerfield and continues to boost and not a zorko and do nothing for the rest of the match

  89. Benno_S says:

So was planing on trading Tyson and vince out by swinging s Mitchell into the mids, and bring in mcveigh and young crouch but… With fasolo in a moon boot am my leagues games looking good I'm now thinking of holding on to vince for 1 more week. Trading Tyson by bringing danger into the mids and adding they Richmond kind on the bubble into my fw to add the cash cow to my fw if fasolo will miss?

Anyone have any thoughts or am I over thinking it?

  90. Dave2008 says:

Gday community, really torn between these options:

    A. Ellis out and Lloyd in with switch of D Martin to mids, will move him back to forwards next chance.
B Ellis out and Griffen in

Currently projected to lose by about 20 points so very close and really tempted to grab the cash with Lloyd and have over 700k in the bank. 3 and 0 in my league which is my goal to win. Still a chance to win this week and forward rookies seem few and far between. If I get Griffen or move Martin then they will take the spot of Polec D Thomas or Crouch in the middle. HElp please!

    Team:

B: McVeigh Mitchell D Swallow Suckling Laidler Langdon ( McDonald Clurey)
C Ablett J Kennedy Beams Murphy Thomas Polec Crouch Robertson (Taylor X Ellis)
    R Jacobs Sandilands (Thurlow Currie)
F Martin Dangerfield Roughy Zorko Higgins Fasolo (Impey Kennedy –Harris)

    • Cam_H says:

      Dave,

Not an easy problem. I think that you would be best served by going with your Ryan Griffen proposal if you're that keen to win the round.

As you outline it, either way you'll be substituting one of; Sam Lloyd or Ryan Griffen for one of; Matt Crouch, Dale Thomas, or Jared Polec. Mad Mick would point to the reasons that Griffen's more likely to get you the score you need to win this league round.

Furthermore, you do have Round 8 bye problems on the horizon. You've got 11 Round 8 Bye players, and two others who can't get on the park (Fraser Thurlow and Tom Clurey). While culling Alex Fasolo next week will help, it will be countered if you go for Sam Lloyd this week.

Nonetheless, I do see the attraction in getting Sam Lloyd in.

Now, don't hold me to any of this … two days ago I thought it was time to cull James Aish!

That awkward moment where you hope one of your mids won't play so you can claim aish's 144 :S

I'd go Aish or Robertson but it is a tough one.
