That feeling of Satisfaction when you click refresh and the podcast pops up,

  2. Jozza says:

Thoughts on Dean towers? will he crack games this year…. And what are your thoughts on luke hodge, can he hold a good average still in old age!

    • @daveywarhol says:

It's all about RD 1 teams, if Towers is named, then go for it! Hodge is mentioned in the podcast. Goes at it like a bull at a gate, sometimes the gate wins.

  3. Billy says:

Downloading now will listen to it in bed! Thanks Jock.

  4. log says:

def – mitchell, Mcveigh, Bartel, suckling pig, Webster and Mcdonald – INT – Clurey and Georgiou
mid – Pendlebury, ablett, Murphy, Beams, michie, aish, Polec and Dunstan – INT – ellis and crouch (can upgrade michie into dale thomas ive needs be i have 250k in the kitty)
ruck – Lobbe and Sandi – INT – Thurlow and derickx
fwd – dangerfield, Roughy, Dixon, Parker, higgins, Rohan – INT – kennedy harris and impey

if sandi gets injured i can swap in Charlie Dixon for Thurlow.

please give me some words of wisdom. Negative and postive

    • harry says:

      upgrade michie to thomas

    • THE SALTSHAKER says:

Im worried if he gets rested, will Dixons body hold up? that's the burning question. avg 12 games a year for last 3yrs

    • anon says:

DEF: i would take out bartel and put in someone a liitle cheaper and more consistent ike hurn or enright
MID: take out michie for tyson
FWD: and i would take out dixon not worth his pricetag and i feel there are better options available like zorko and buddy

thats what i would personally do

  5. Davey Warhol says:

Geez the forward line is giving me headaches. With Richard Douglas, Henderson and Van Berlo all out, surely Matthew Wright will be played on ball in the guts for the crows? Or should I get Josh Caddy instead? Or save a bit of coin and climb aboard the Higgins rollercoaster? BURNMEN EVERYWHERE!!!

    • LukTon says:

I'm a bit of a safe player, and I like to be able to lock a player in from the get-go. This is why I've selected Alex Fasolo into my forward line.

Instead of picking Matt Wright ($384,900) and Josh Caddy ($325,300), and spreading the total cost of $710,200 over 2 potential burnmen, I picked Fasolo ($213,600) knowing he will play and MAKE ME MONEY, leaving me with $496,600 to spend on a much more reliable, set-and-forget player type(Franklin, Dixon, JJK, Parker, T-Mitch, Zorko, etc…take your pick!)

Sure, I know that the Fas isn't going to score up there with even the modest of averages, but I can guarantee that he will make me money, and will later turn into a premo-forward upgrade with the help of an extra cash-cow.

Caddy and Wright are TWO risky picks, and either could make or lose you money. Pick a premo forward and a someone who will DEFINATELY make you money. It will leave you in much greater stead for the mid to latter part of the season.

  6. Josh says:

Hey community, here is my team:

DEF: McVeigh Mitchell Houli Suckling Webster McDonald (Langdon Georgiou)
MID: Ablett Liberatore Cotchin Kennedy Beams Macrae Polec Ellis (Dunstan Crouch)
    RUC: Ryder Sandilands (Thurlow King)
FWD: Dangerfield Parker Gunston Wright Higgins Rohan (Kennedy-Harris Impey)

    Any comments appreciated!

    • daryl_prasad says:

The following 6 are very risky:

      Webster, McDonald
      Polec, Ellis
      Higgins, Rohan

      • Shinboner says:

What are your thoughts on Polec, mate?

        • daryl_prasad says:

maybe have a look after round 2

          • Shinboner says:

Have to disagree there Daryl. Seems to be a surefire option alongside Aish and Ellis at that 150-180k range. And Luke Mac was born to play footy. He will be tremendous.

            • daryl_prasad says:

Remember Kane Mitchell? A score of 100 in Round 2 of the NAB Cup against the Demons was the second highest dream team score by a rookie. Dead in the water last season.

      • @JPBlacker says:

Why do you think Mcdonald and Polec and Ellis are risky?

        • daryl_prasad says:

I think they are overpriced at this stage. Will wait till after round two to see how they are fitting in.

      • SCdonkey says:

Why is McD a risk? Considering he's the best Rookie option you could have in Defense with a job sercurity.

        • daryl_prasad says:

I just don't like rookies in round 1. Too many nervous moments. Like players who have played at least 10 or 11 games and have a chance of getting a decent score. This year sees a different pricing structure for rookies. Previous years I would have picked McD because he would probably have gone up 50 thousand after first game…but that will not happen this year. He needs to put in two really good games first up to increase his price.

          • THE SALTSHAKER says:

Why waste a trade? will play lots all those guys starting rnd 1

            • daryl_prasad says:

Also McD is playing against Essendon first round. A tad different from any VFL team. And in the second week…bit of grey hair material for mine.

              • Basil says:

agree with salty…..have all those subject to playing…….Maybe cricket is Daryls game……..?……

                • daryl_prasad says:

You're right. Cricket is my game! OK…I will bow to those with more experience and success in Supercoach. Will think about McD (smallMac)…after round 2

    • SCdonkey says:

Teams looking good Josh, maybe your fwd just need a little bit of work. Gunston, Wright and Higgins is a bit of worry, you should only pick one or two out of them 3 and upgrade either Gunston or Wright to Titch if you can still afford it. If not downgrade one from Mid either Kennedy or Macrae to a playing Rookie that should free up heaps cash for you upgrade one up fwd to a premo.

  7. Tim says:

    So far,

    Mitchell, Hanley, Enright
    Suckling, McDonald, Georgiou (Langdon&Clurey)

    Cot chin, Kennedy, Beams, Murphy
    Thomas, Shiels, Aish, Ellis (Polec&dunstan)

    Jacobs, Sandinista (thurlow&derickx)

    Danger, Parker, wright
Caddy, Higgins, Rohan (impey&jkh) with sub 700k left over as I'm going for league win

    • zimmerbd says:

You'll want to use some of that cash to beef up your mids a bit.

    • SCdonkey says:

Wayyyyyy too much money in the kitty, just sitting there being wasted. If you are only after for the league win then this line up might work for you specially with heaps of cash in reserve for trade upgrade. But if you're after for the overall win, you'll be way behind of the pack.

    • Garglesnarf FC says:

Cash is for premiums, that is why we trade cash cows into new rookies.

Turn some of that $700k into two more premiums now, rather than wait.

  8. anon says:

guys would appreciate some thoughts on my team

DEF: mitchell, hurn, waters, suckling, r.shaw, mcdonald, (langdon, georgiou)
MID: ablett, cotchin, beams, shuey, vince, tyson, polec, ellis, (dunstan, crouch)
    RUCK: pyke, sandilands, (derickx, thurlow)
FWD: martin, roughead, parker, zorko, darling, caddy, (rohan, kennedy-harris)

    • Sleepy says:

Waters is gonna be out for some time through injury

      • anon says:

thanks for that whos a solid replacement for waters?

        preferably someone under 500k

        • LukTon says:

Jed Adcock ($492,100); he picks up the captaincy this year, and with it, will be asked to shoulder more of the load from his younger, more inexperienced teammates.

Trent McKenzie ($477,700); had a very consistant year last year and is in a team on the rise. He's entering his fourth year of AFL and could easily build on last years performance and then some.

There's two for you, there's also some far riskier picks like Watts and Fisher if you're strapped for cash, but even then i wouldn't entertain them.

          • anon says:

cheers bud some good choices there especially liking jed adcock as well im tossing up between him and enright

          • Garglesnarf FC says:

Watts is going to be very interesting. Finally has a decent coach to work with, and one who has continually said he would have taken no.1 as well.

Can he up his output to 90+?

    • daryl_prasad says:

Four very risky choice: : vince, tyson, polec, ellis

      • Leisure Suit Larry says:

Stop saying some of the best rookie choices are risky.

Who are your top 5 mid rookies?

      • SCdonkey says:

Love to see your team daryl. Seems like Risky is your favorite word today.

        • Shinboner says:

Going for broke there Daryl! Well, it isn't cookie cutter, I'll give it that. Regardless, I can't see this being especially successful. Too many mediocre scorers, taggers and players who won't get a game in this year. The team also lacks the potential cash generation required to attain a full premo squad by Rd 18-19. There is a fine line between a unique squad and being an SC hipster!

          • daryl_prasad says:

Using the 300 thousand players in my back line until the rookies show how good they are after round two. Most of the 102s will be replaced as we go on…but for round 1 I want bodies that are definitely going to give me ok points. I think cash generation will be harder this year given the new rookie pricing structure…not like old times This is not to say there aren't any good rookies…I'll just wait for them to get results.

Best of luck for this year. Trying a new strategy…could all go to sh*t.

      • anon says:

you wont get anywhere in superocach without taking risks bud

        • daryl_prasad says:

Yep you are right, but I think people will get caught this year with rookies going down in price because of the new rookie pricing structure. I will look at rookies after round two.

  9. Casey Brown says:

Want To Put In Liam Sheils, But Worried He Will Be A Tagger, Can anyone Put My Mind At Ease?

    • Derek says:

He will be the tagged at hawthorn. Langford looks ok but shiels will do that job.

    • anon says:

shiels looks too much of a risk for me your better off going with dom tyson if you havent already seems to me melbourne midfielders are going to be the port adelaides of last year where we generate our cash from

  10. throttlefinger says:

Swweeeeet! Perfect for my commute to work. Can't wait to listen.

ill join your league. Im the bastard who introduced Throttlefinger to footy….

      • Shinboner says:

You've done the community a great service.

        • throttlefinger says:

Nice to say, my man. How's Team Shinboner shaping up?

          • Shinboner says:

Let's just say it would be a lot simpler if I wasn't so bloody worried about the lack of closure re: the Essendon drug scandal. Not particularly confident with having Jobe and Hibberd in my team. I don't think I could manage two suspensions into the season. That aside, the team is not looking too shabby. A nice balance of solid premium output and 'risk' I feel. Is Team TF faring much better?

            • throttlefinger says:

Podcast helped clear up a lot of issues. Feel considerably better about the side. Now it's just waiting for selections with fingers crossed.

Man, I feel ya about the Dons. Had both in at one point. Hibberd I took out because of his hammy issues. Jobe for the reasons you stated. Just didn't want the headaches. Sandi is the only "will it happen or not" drama I'm willing to put up with.

      • throttlefinger says:

That's a bit of a stretch, Skulldonkey. "Re-introduced" to footy.

But he has educated me on its finer points for sure. So yes, very grateful.

        • skulldonkey says:

oh come on….. re-introduced….ok….ha. you should take it as a compliment, as you only knew about it and from watching it late at night as teen, and 2 years in now youre like a goddamned bloody expert that leaves me in the dust!

          • throttlefinger says:

Haha. Hardly an expert. Any knowledge I've gained has been completely due to this community.

Plus, we'll see how good my team does. Might prove I don't know dick.

  12. WombatsFC says:

    Hiya Jock,
I reckon that the Higginator and the new stats interface combined with the statistical anaylis of Crimmo and the learned insights of yourself BVC, Higgo, WayneO, and the Crouching-CulturalSterotype not to mention the info provided by the brilliant folk who use your pages is ten times more valuable than the SuperCoach gold subscription.
So, I just donated and I reckon everybody else should as well.

Then Jock & the crew can host a GF party

    • Philthy says:

I agree, my subscription went to the flapping tarp fund this year!

    • throttlefinger says:

Well said, Womby! And completely agree.

You can read the Sun and all the other footy blogs. But here is where you get ALL the tools you need to build a Crouching SuperKick strong team.

  13. skindog says:

Brilliant night boys, its on like Donkey
    Kong

  14. scott says:

gaz, pendles, (barlow, jack or fyfe as m3: Undecided), Libba, beams, tyson, polec, aish, dunston, crouch
    too expensive midfield?????????

    • Zac says:

Seems a bit heavy in the midfield. I'd have either one of Pendles and Gaz, not both. I'd suggest downgrading pendlebury to m.murphy, then have Pendles as your first upgrade target as he surely won't hold that pricetag. Then I would pick Jack as you M2 and downgrade Libba to D.Thomas and you have included two proven premium players whilst saving yourself around 420k. With this saved cash you can upgrade around the ground as well as perhaps upgrade m.crouch to x.ellis because crouch will be more prone to cop the vest.
      Suggested midfield lineup:
Ablett, Jack, Murphy, Beams, Thomas, Tyson, Polec, Aish (Dunstan, Crouch)
This first midfield was worth $3,867,200 whereas the suggested midfield is worth $3,489,800 giving you $377,400 to play with in other areas of the field while your suffering a potential point loss of (M1=975 – M2=955) 20 points, while players like Thomas are making money while hopefully providing premium output. The 20 points loss is more than compensated by the $377,400 saving in cash.

      • @JPBlacker says:

What does Pendlebury need to average to hold that price do you know? Do you think Pendles will drop in price more than Ablett throughout the first half of the season? I would have thought Ablett might drop more simply because pendles is usually more consistent. Whereas ablett might have a game or two of 80ish.

Is my thinking logical or am I completely off?

        Thanks

        • Zac says:

Yeah makes perfect sense that a game in the 80's can throw off someone's price significantly if they are priced like Pendlebury or Ablett, but I think it's inevitable that both players will drop in price, I can't see either of them holding a near 700k price tag. In saying that Ablett came out and scored a 159 in the NAB Challenge and has been the best supercoach player for years, can't win without him. Pendlebury tends to have a relatively better second half to the year than Ablett, so while your rookies are generating cash, I would look at Pendlebury as my first upgrade target.

    • K'noath says:

I'd go with out Pendles and go with Jack and Fyfe

  15. Give It A Go says:

The fields are alive with the sound off AFL,

You Rock boys, that's was a ripper

  16. Matt says:

What's everyone's thoughts on Chris Mayne this year? Potential POD?

    • medadsson says:

He won't let you down too often, plays consistently well but is sometimes a little to selfless and passes off. Loves to tackle, have a look at his stats from last year. Doubt he will be a popular choice so good POD in that regard. (Disclaimer – I am a Freo supporter :).

  17. nacho says:

    DEF
    s.mitchell, p.hanley, j.watts, m.suckling, j.webster, l.mcdonald
    (t.langdon, a georgiou)

    MID
    g.ablett, s.pendlebury, p.dangerfield, m.murphey, d.beams, d.thomas, j.aish, j.polec
    (l.dunstan, m.crouch)

    RUCK
    m.lobbe, a.sandilands
    (d.currie, t.nankervis)

    FWD
    d.martin, j.roughead, l.franklin, b.reid, g.rohan, j.kennedy-harris
    (s.kersten, l.taylor)

please give some feedback, thanks JR community!

    • skindog says:

get rid of Watts, other than tat not bad, some good POD's in there!!

    • daryl_prasad says:

      m.lobbe very slow starter

    • WombatsFC says:

      Looks good Nacho.
I reckon Watts is too risky to have him at rnd1. If he fires off the bat you can always trade him in at the same price after a couple of games. I think Murph is in a similar category.
Lobbe was almost out performed by an unfit, recovering from injury Renouf during NAB; if Renouf is fit Lobbe wont be a lone ruckman and will struggle for 75pts.

  18. Bruds says:

So i feel backline structure would be risky to have only 3 premiums so i'm looking at 4 with Suckling and McDonald
There hasn't been much talk about Bartel, with no corey, chapman or jpod at the Cattery his value in the team due to experience had increased and forward time is looking immanent. What is everyone's thoughts?

    • WombatsFC says:

Agree on Bartel I reckon he'll become the goalkicking midfielder that Geelong will need due to trading all of their fowards that can walk

      • Bruds says:

How is your backline looking wombats?
If i want to keep the rest of my lines as they are it's so hard to fit in 4 premos in the backline

        • WombatsFC says:

Hi Bruds. Backline is still causing me tormet, when Hibberd blew his hammy again it lost structure badly.

I'm currently running with 3 prems on backline but I've got hodge in the middle and only playing 2 midfield rooks +Daisy & Beams. I have Tyson, Ellis, Polec,Crouch and after rnd 3 if three of them look like a regular 80+ I'll switch Hodgy back onto backline and cash in Suckling, McDonald or Webster for Aish.

          • Bruds says:

            I love the plan Wombats!
I may replace Hibberd with Simpson or McVeigh but will still only have a 3 premo backline to start off
Ablett with Beams + Murphy + Daisy and rookies in the mid. Hodge in the mid also to then swing back later could prove really effective and save some cash.

    • THE SALTSHAKER says:

Bartels scores last year were from high effective disposal. Like Birch. If he is played up forward I don't like his scoring potential as much. Pass. Kade Simpson is your man, plays all around the ground. Finished strong last year.

      • Bruds says:

Beatutiful call Saltshaker, Mitchell, Enright and Simpson as 3 premo defence to begin with sounds good to me, perhaps McVeigh but he's a bit on the pricey side.
Slightly worried with daisy now, that sweeping role could be taken away from Simpson a little.

  19. daryl_prasad says:

Some spots open in my league: 117540

  20. Sam says:

out of these combinations, which would be better:
    tyson + laidler
    or
    matt crouch + rhyce shaw

  21. Rocksta says:

    Awesome Podcast Lads.

I reckon I'm just about sold on the 3 playing Rookies in the guts.
Although the thought of it makes me break out into a cold sweat, the simple fact remains that there aren't enough dependable Rookies across the other lines.
The more you look it really does seem that our money this year will be made by the likes of Tyson, Polec, Ellis, Aish, Michie, Dunstan, all of whom are mids.

  22. lostlarrikin says:

    Just missed ur league Throtts.

    New league just opened:

    JR Flappin Phat – 786121

    Get On!

  23. wolfey says:

What are your thoughts on Colin Sylvia? Though he might smash it in moving from a team uncompetitive team to a club that lost the grand final.
P.S loving the podcasts Jock definitely made me consider my team a hell of a lot more

    • daryl_prasad says:

      Sylvia is very consistant…great pick.

    • Bruds says:

I think Pavlich is a much better choice for just a little more and he's be awkward to fit into your forward line
Caddy should perform better and it nearly 100k less

    • medadsson says:

Don't do it. Arrived underdone at Freo and struggling with game plan. Only played one NAB match and played in seconds on Sunday. Did not train with main group today. Personally don't think he will get a game for first few rounds at least. Good POD (for the rest of us who don't have him :)

  24. oliverfisher says:

    Which is the better option
    Vince and Webster
    or
    Tyson and Swallow

    also
    Hurn and Vince
    or
    Liberatore and Suckling

    • Leisure Suit Larry says:

      I liked Tyson and Swallow

      And

      Libba and Suckling.

I have Webster at this stage and he could be an ok pick, and Vince is a decent POD but I just prefer the other options.

  25. THE SALTSHAKER says:

Hey community, wondering what back up plan folks have for Sandi if he gets rested?

The only options really are Hale and Dixon. Will Hale play still play as much with McEvoy in team?

Dixon might be up forward more often. Not convinced he is at the next stage, will be a roller coaster. Not sure his body will last a season either, as insurance he may miss more games than Sandi. Nor do I want 50s on my field for a $480k player. He doesn't get a lot of football, he wont bag 3 to 5 goals each week. He seemed to get a lot of points for very little last year….champion data and all. For his price his DT scores are quite low, which means he doesn't do a lot in most games by comparison.

Will it be a case of waiting, see whose around at the time then burning a trade in fwd line?

Any analysis or strategy on this would be great to hear

    • Leisure Suit Larry says:

I was all over two midpriced rucks and Dixon in the FWD. But I just can’t do it. Dixon seems to score well when he is the second ruck. If there are two rucks named I would stay well clear. Also a history of injury makes him a risky pick for me.

I have decided to pick a different FWD premium and roll the dice on sandi making it through until byes.

    • Basil says:

Salty…..Reckon Hale is the way to go….Think he will be good decoy for a leading Gunstan and Roughy…..Dont think Mcevoy cuts the mustard….Will ruck…..Will play foward heaps…..Kicking multiple goals…………….i think……(even though l got ruffy, not a ruckman)……….

    • K'noath says:

I'm thinking Dixon may be the burnman of 2014 myself. I'll be doing one of two of the following scenarios:

R1 Full season keeper: such as Burger, McEvoy, (but probably not super premo's)
      R2 Sandi
      R3 Thurlow
      R4 King (Aka Captain Loophole)

If Sandi goes down suck up with a trade. Risk here is who to trade too if he hasn't risen in coin much (or at all). We all picking Sandi because his score ceiling is huge. If Sandi goes down and bank funds only allow for a sideways trade then the choice for a solid scoring R2 is very slim if the Hickeys and Grundy's aren't performing.

Now… if I decide to take a risk with R1 as well to create extra cash (ie, a Hickey or Grundy type) or picking say another high score ceiling Ruck like NicNat (who could still have his own injury issues) then I think its paramount to a have a Ruck/Fwd swingman. For me Hale is the only choice. Ave 107 in preseason and with no buddy will spend more time forward kicking goals as well as helping out McEvoy. He's also an excellent Mark of the ball.

At the moment I have option laid out first with Hale at F4. Will Hale stand strong enough to hold the spot year long though averaging say 90+ or hopefully 95+???? This is the question as well. Because a Zor4ko/Parker type for similar coin should definitely do that for the year. Is Hale my ultimate security blanket or is he wasting space on a posession grabbing FWD/MID machine.

      Descisions descisions….

Ripper of a podcast, gents! Loved the debates about mid pricers.

Biggest nugget of wisdom was planning for your final team. "The 13" as I've anointed them. Took a hard look at my team and didn't see them there. Dappled with the sure fire prems were too many risky "I hopes". (i.e. "I hope they breakout" players).

Thanks for the whack against the side of the head, Jock.

    • WombatsFC says:

So does this mean that you've wasted the last 6-months throttle?
From the sound of this you're back to square 1.

Chin-up buddy the Wombats will thrash your collection of reprobates and wannabe's whichever way you go

      • throttlefinger says:

Within a few games you'll be Wincebats, from the stinging from my weekly throttling.

Fine-tuning, Wombats. Still has the uppercuts and hooks from previous versions.

        • WombatsFC says:

I'm sure it does and I'm equally sure that most of them will also be in my team and the 16 other teams knocking heads in the throttledome.
Could come down to last minute trades/substitutions when the subs are announced 30minutes before the lockout; your dedication to the contest will surely be tested this year.

          • throttlefinger says:

No doubt. Starting teams and corrective trades will separate the men from the boys. And yes, I will be tested. As we all will with this new price structure and lack of a rook booty to pick from. Hope all the planning and scenario run-throughs will make it less troubling as last season.

    Ruck: M.Lobbe, A.Sandilands, F.Thurlow, M.King
    Forward: P.Dangerfield, D.Martin, C.Dixon, D.Zorko, J.Caddy, G.Rohan, J.Kennedy-Harris, J.Impey

    would love some thoughts

    • Leisure Suit Larry says:

DEF: a few midpricers but the right ones I think. All should increase their output this year.

MID: good mids. I like Murphy even though some people are off him. I wouldnt pick Shuey myself but he is a good POD. Taylor will prob miss the opening few rounds.

RUCK: like it. Especially if Lobbe plays as a lone ruck

FWD: Dixon is too risky for me, but will come into contention for my team if he plays as a 2nd ruckm if 2 rucks are named he has no shot of joining my team. I also don’t like Zorkos chances of increase MF time this year. Brisbane’s MF looks pretty good so I think Zorko will play primarily up forward and average around 80 odd. I would try to get Parker in for one of them.

      • Josh says:

thanks for the help mate really useful
I've got Taylor in as I feel the rest of my Midfield won't miss any games, I've only got him due to the DPP so i can have more freedom with my upgrades
Dixon is in the side soley as cover for Sandilands
I've been meaning to trade Zorko for a while but haven't got round to it

  30. Zach says:

Need feedback on the D4 and D5 with M.Broadbent and A.Everitt, good stats in the nab challenge with high disposal efficiency…?

    • Leisure Suit Larry says:

It all comes down to their role. As a Carlton supporter I would pass on Everitt i justt don’t think he will get as much of the ball to make a good option.

I am a Broadbent fan – could be an ok pick. Played pretty well in the last few gam.. But i see less MF time for him which will lower his scoring. While he has played loose in the past it hasnt been enough to make him a premium selection —- risky POD imo

  31. Clutters says:

Thanks Neil, the 22 Ronnies are on board.

  32. Bob says:

Watson, Kieran jack or Rockliff as my second premium midfielder???

    • Leisure Suit Larry says:

Rockliff for me followed by Jack.

But pretty close. All 3 are solid options.

    • Shinboner says:

Steering clear of Jobe until the drug scandal is done and dusted. Dealing with a suspension weeks into the season will be devastating.

    • K'noath says:

Flip a coin. I'd go Watson straight away if he's middle name still wasn't asada. Out of the other two probably Rocky.

  34. Philthy says:

Higgo you let Gunston out of the bag!! He's a gun, Hawks went to him only 11% of the time as FWD target last year, that will only go up without Buddy, his Finals scores were 99, 146, 126 after scoring 8 tons in the H&A……

    • Leisure Suit Larry says:

Gunston has been picking up steam in the fantasy circles.

But will he suffer now he is probably going to get the athletic bigan that used to chase around buddy?

      • Philthy says:

Reckon he will still be good enough Larry, teams will still have to pick up roaming Roughy as Hale should play close to goal and take the genuine FB

  35. Hugh G says:

No offence guys. But all the singing and acting is killin it for me. I know your trying to jazz it up, but I listen to it for the Fantasy side of it, thats entertaining enough. Stop tryin to go overboard guys.

    • yes I do hav bacon says:

Have to disagree there Hugh g, significant comedic value in the parody songs IMHO.

      • theazzyg says:

Agree with bacon, I love it, fantasy advice through comedic songs. I still remember crouching Bryce Gibbs burn man song, it helps me avoid picking Bryce Gibbs.

        • Hugh G says:

If you need a song to help you not pick someone, then fantasy isn’t your game, mate.

          • Dale says:

Comedy gold. Crouching in the YouYangs after the tiges defeat….good. I want more comedy not less. You can’t ask the funniest blokes in town to suddenly be boring (no offense Higgo).

Thanks, was just saying their memorable and awesome.

  36. Rick Grimes says:

Who do the community rate as the best sub (or close to) $500k defenders? I’m looking for consistency down back, happy to take a solid 80-100 every week, so thinking the likes of:

    Enright
    Hibberd
    Houli
    Simpson
    Hurn
    McKenzie

Also, is Dangermouse likely to hit the season hard or will he take a few weeks to ramp it up? Seems a big spend up forward.

    • Leisure Suit Larry says:

Houli. His consistency last year was fantastic. Enright is also a consistent option.

As for danger – I think he will hit the season hard. Have you seen the lad play, that is just what he does, play hard.

    • PJ8 says:

      Enright and Hurn for me.

Dangerfield is a gun, SC has gifted us with his Dual position. Must have this year

    • Derek says:

I have Birchell as my D2. i'm not sure why people are staying away from him, it might be that most people already have Mitchell & Suckling and don't like the look of too much Brown & Gold in their DEF (I personally like having a lot of HAWKS = highest SC scoring team)

    • SCaddict says:

I like them all Rick but would probably select Hurn. Don't see him in enough teams and reckon he's set-up for a super season. Only running with 2 defensive premos myself (McVeigh and Mitchell) and then cheap midpricers so can't squeeze him in, although he has been in and out of my team all preseason.

I'm going for a POD and NOT starting with Danger. It's certainly a minority view as the safer thing is to start with him but if he has a quietish few opening weeks it could pay off. He's been a notoriously slow starter in the past.

Otherwise I'm fairly sure he'll be available sub $600K at some point around the byes or will just have to pony up the extra cash if not.

Picking JJK in his place as another POD who I think could get off to a flyer with the Eagles early draw.

    • daryl_prasad says:

      Enright, Malceski

    • vinnymac says:

I'm going Hodge over Enright and others.

  37. Ricoh says:

Thoughts on Tom Mitchell as a POD?

    • yes I do hav bacon says:

Really solid option but can see him getting the vest at some stage and maybe missing a game here and there. I’m struggling over him v martin myself.

      • THE SALTSHAKER says:

Yeah Longmire says they will need to manage him out of concern he will run himself into ground

    • Leisure Suit Larry says:

I think he is a solid forward option.

But will have get enough midfield time competing with jack, JPK, Parker, ROK, McVeigh, Hannerbury etc.

I have him at the moment – tentitively. I do not think he will raise in money much to make me feel that i have missed the boat. So I am looking at other options.

    • Hugh G says:

He really isnt a POD. a lot of teams will have him. Parker is more of a POD.

    • Ricoh says:

Thanks guys! It seems as if every second person on JR is going with Parker. I'm looking at Pav, Parker or Tom Mitchell as a D4. Think I will go with TM, he jut racks up so many possessions.

  38. Michael says:

I’m really interested if anyone thinks matty wright is a good option. I’m struggling to see a solid f3 lock and thought maybe spend a bit less and upgrade upgrade later? He was bloody impressive in nab. But it was nab.. Thanks

    • Leisure Suit Larry says:

      Not for me.

He IS a good option if a tad risky.

His nab has beend great and injuries to a few MFs should lead to more MF time…. But

His coach has said he will play a number of roles which could mean he is back tagging – that has scared me off.

    • yes I do hav bacon says:

Showed similar form in last years nab before burnmaning his way through the season proper, typical risk v reward scenario.

    • BeagzBoyz says:

You've found my POD mate, Cracker player, been unlucky last couple of years. looked solid and slotted straight into my F5 position. Tad risky but I think he's worth it. Can see him outscoring Caddy regularly which is his only real competition at that price point

  39. PJ8 says:

I have one more league available to join… anyone got a spare spot in a league?

Could I please get some general thoughts on the team as well as comments around my selection of Boak and Rohan. If they aren't good picks suggestions will be appreciated.
    Thanks. : – )

    • PJ8 says:

I would look to downgrade Boak to a rookie and upgrade Langford. Think 2 rookies in DEF is too risky this year.

    • SCdonkey says:

Ruck needs to be addressed too, relying on Sandi as your R1 and having 3 Rookies for R2, 3 & 4 that will only play a few games throughout the season. Might wanna add another ruck that has job security the likes of Hickey or Lobbe.

  45. David says:

    • Harry says:

Could be a bloody good risk, but at that 400+ price category he is in he needs to get to premium hood to make an impact for you. He will score points but I'm not sure whether he will score enough to be selected in my team, I did have him last year though and he served me mighty well.

  48. matthewjsampson says:

    G'day everyone,

The podcast got me fired up for another big SuperCoach year, and I think I'm close to locking my team in.

However, Im at a bit of a dilemma with working around the round 8 bye. At the moment I've got 7 premos at the first bye (Ablett, Cotchin, Dal Santo, Beams, Dangerfield, Martin & Enright).

Any thoughts on how to work around this? Should I downgrade one to Aish and spend around to spread over the byes? Bring in a Bernie Vince type? Or just suck it up and shit my pants come round 8?

Rookies are subject to round 1 selection.

    Thanks everyone!

    DEF: McVeigh, J, Mitchell, S, Enright, C, Suckling, M, Webster, J, McDonald, L (Clurey, T, Georgiou, A)
    MID: Ablett, G, Liberatore, T, Cotchin, T, Dal Santo, N, Beams, D, Polec, J, Ellis, X, Dunstan, L (Crouch, M, Robertson, N)
    RUC: Lobbe, M, Sandilands, A (Thurlow, F, Derickx, T)
    FOR: Dangerfield, P, Martin, D, Parker, L, Zorko, D, Caddy, J, Kennedy-Harris, J (Rohan, G, Merrett, Z)

    • theazzyg says:

If it was me, regardless of byes i'd be swapping dal santo out for a rockcliff type or a rory sloane that may provide similar or better output and ease some round 8 bye pressure

    • Josh says:

Very similar teams, Matthew. If you had to get rid of one I would lose Dal Santo but he is a very good POD. If you don't have enough to get a Rockliff or Jack then what about Murphy? Bernie Vince is a good choice but you could save more money and choose Thomas.

  49. Derek says:

    I've done it……the perfect team ;)

DEF: Mitchell, Birchell, Suckling, Roberts-Thompson, Webster, McDonald (Cutler, Langford)

MIDS: Ablett, Dangerfield, Cotchin, Kennedy, Beams, Thomas, Ellis, (Dunstan, Cunningham)

    RUCK: HMac, Sandi (Thurlow, King)

FWD: Martin, Franklin, Pav, Chapman, Caddy, Rohan (Taylor, Impey)

    Ruck is only risk.

Only playing 1 Rookie on field (McDonald).

Gone with cheap defence but the Hawk boys will get the job done.

    • Daniel says:

4 hawks in defense is risky as well as the rucks, LRT, webster, pav and chappy!

rookies are you cash makers, so you have to use them! having 1 playing rookie isnt necessarily the 'perfect'option. This year, 2-4 playing rookies in midfield looks ideal for cash generation. in saying this, your premium picks are solid.

may need to rethink a little, personally, not the perfect team for mine but good luck!

    • SCdonkey says:

Nice POD you got there picking Birchall absolutely played a ripper of a game in the practice match. At around the price I'd pick S Shaw over Roberts-Thompson. You're right about your ruck is a risk, a BIG risk in fact, having two injury prone as your R1 & R2 then Thurlow as your cover who i think will only play a handful of game this year. Remember the Dons are looking to exploit Daniher in the Ruck this year, there will be very little chance for him to get games specially when Bellchambers comes back. Also you have King as your Dummy ruck totally no cover for your R1 & R2. For your sake I hope Hmac and Sandi gains heaps of cash and stay fit before they get injured again.
I think Chappy will be their supersub vested player this year, as Chappy stated he'd be happy to get 16 games.
I must say your Mid is very strong. Though Danger in the middle is very awkward should move him to fwd and drop Chappy for Murphy in middle.

      • Derek says:

my Gut says Chappy. My gut says take the Ruck risk.

I can easily swing Danger to the FWD and put Rohan on the bench, Dunstan then gets a run in the middle.

        • SCdonkey says:

I was just suggesting a different options for you not criticising.
For your sake, hope it works out for you in the Ruck.
As for swinging Danger and Chappy back and fort, if thats what your gut is telling you and your happy with that, then by all means go for it.

        • THE SALTSHAKER says:

You need to use the mid rookies to generate cash, my gut said the same thing at one stage on a 6-1-1 strategy. Have since gone back to 4-1-3 to make money, whilst boosting Fwds and elite ruck

      • Basil says:

Sorry Donkey disagree……They wont do a "Paul Salmon" with Daniher..Might ruck from the boundary in the foward line…. Bellchambers out til Rd 8 atleast, Thurlow takes a good grab,…….a few talls injured at bomberland……….Cash Cow……..

    • LRT doesnt score well, nor consistently, will probably be rucking though, could pay off!

    • Rocksta says:

Agree with SCDonkey and The Saltshaker.
BTW, The Perfect Team is missing one Midfielder.

  51. Daniel says:

ive gone through and given feedback on some teams so some feedback on mine would be much appreciated guys! Fire away!

DEF: mitchell, hanley, houli, swallow, suckling, mcdonald – clurey, georgiou
MID: ablett, pendlebury, JP kennedy, beams, michie, polec, aish, ellis – dunstan, crouch
RUC: lobbe, sandilands – currie, king
FWD: dangerfield, martin, roughead, t.mitchell, caddy, rohan – kennedy harris, merrett

only issue is – t.mithcell and caddy or parker and higgins + ~65k. other than that im pretty happy but feedback would be good!

    • looks like a very strong team Daniel, Bachar Houli is an interesting POD. Parker Higgins for me, I'm not convinced Tom Mitchell will be as good as everyone thinks, need to look at his last couple scores at the end of last year. But I'm happy for him to prove me wrong, and Caddy will be a great choice if he gets a run in the mid. Higgins is a burn man but I see a lot of value in him at 254. Parker has a lot of guns around him and I'm not sure how much influence he can put into a game with all the gun midfielders at Sydney, not in my team but I see him doing better than Tom Mitchell
      Bloody good team though Daniel

    • Dogs says:

Good looking team, the more I see the 4-4 midfield the more I want to convert, lol. I have titch in the forwards too but if I change to a 4-4 I might use the cash to upgrade him to a higher scorer

    • Derek says:

thing that stands out for me is the 4 Premium/6 Rookie MIDS. This is great for cash generation and therefore a strong showing in the Leagues. Are you going for League wins or overall ranking?

  52. Kevan says:

Big dilemma community, will play a 2 rookie midfield, but who to chose out of Dunstan/Polec/Aish for points round 1. Any healthy debate would be appreciated.

    • PJ8 says:

I would go Polec and Dunstan for Rd 1. Polec in good form and Saints have next to no midfield Rd 1 so Dunstan should get some good time in there.

Nothing wrong with Aish but he is playing Hawthorn.

      • Kevan says:

Makes great sense. Brisbane have a tough draw, Dunstan will get plenty of time on the ground as well. Thanks PJ8.

        • PJ8 says:

No worries mate. Yeah I will be going with Aish in my team but may bench him Rd 1.

Maybe you could have a look at my team posted below. Would love to know what you think?

    • Derek says:

i'm not keen on the $170k+ rookies. I'm sticking with the dirt cheapies and get max cash generation.

  53. Dabman says:

    Thought on my team?

    • Michael C. says:

Not sure if any of A georgiou, T. Cutler, M.fuller will play in week 1. Wait for teams and look out for Langford, Langdon, Clurey, Litherland get a guernsey instead. Maybe upgrade one to Webster/Suckling and downgrade a mid to a rookie – more value there than in defense.

  54. Stafa says:

    • yes I do hav bacon says:

Bock probly won’t be named round 1 and he’s a fair chunk of cash to start on the bench, maybe swap him for a cheapie and use the cash to upgrade elsewhere? Nice pod’s!

    Thanks Community

    • Wattsieesq says:

Pretty nice team FL. I like Adcock as a POD but with daisy, Sandi, Wright and Burnman, that is some risks you are taking. Easy trade downs though. I'm not sure if Kersten will play first up. Have a look at the rookie cheat sheet for options to replace him.

      • That is brilliant Wattsieesq, im not shy of taking a few risks. My mains concerns would be Daisy and Sandi but if most other teams have him we will all be in the same position and I wouldn't want to miss out on them if they have a good year!

  56. SCaddict says:

Another ripping podcast as we've all come to expect. Definitely sensed an air of uncertainty in the bungalow. Sounds like you blokes are planning a number of changes to your team reveals from last week.

Though can hardly blame you as we are all in the same boat here. The fact that this rookie class doesn't appear to be as strong as some other years combined with their elevated pricing does naturally lend itself to a bit more anxiety and second guessing than seasons past.

But as a community I'm confident we can get though these testing times and ultimately prosper!

Looking forward to Crouching's and Mad Mick's team reveals later this week!

      • SCaddict says:

I really appreciate it boys. It's not easy finding players for private draft leagues with the extra time commitment required for a live draft etc but prefer them over the automated options.

Still need 4 more teams though. Not sure what happens if you don't fill a private draft league??

McVeigh, Mitchell, Hurn, Suckling, Webster, McDonald (Langdon, Georgiou)

Ablett, Pendlebury, Watson, Beams, Thomas, Aish, Polec, Elllis, (Dunstan, Crouch)

    Goldstein, Sandilands (Thurlow, King)

Dangerfield, Martin, Roughead, Caddy, Higgins, Rohan (Kennedy-Harris, Impey)

    $27,400 in the bank

    Anything to improve?

    All thoughts welcome.

    • Derek says:

that is a really nice team. I'm not a big fan of hurn but with WCE draw he should be good.

      • PJ8 says:

Thanks Derek, that is one of the spots I couldn't settle on. I originally had Hibberd at D3 but he is injured so re-adjusted my team and changed F3 from T. Mitchell to Roughead (which I am happy with) and left me with less than $500k for the D3 spot and thought Hurn was best in that group.

I'm hoping he can score well for me. Apart from the top 3 I don't really like any of the DEF's.

    • SCdonkey says:

I am so happy seeing this Ruck structure with the Dummy ruck as a captain Loophole.
Having a Premo like Goldstein as R1 and Sandi as R2 having a playing rookie as R3 may or may not be Thurlow, then having King as the Dummy ruck.

      Really like your team PJ8

      • PJ8 says:

Thanks SCdonkey. That's the ruck structure I think will work. Lock R1 in all season, make quick money on R2 and trade for the best scoring ruck at the byes or keep if going strong. R3 a rookie, who ever is playing just to back up if R1 or R2 are out for a week and use R4 purely for VC loophole with lots of Sunday games.

Are you going a similar ruck strategy?

        Thanks for the reply.

        • Wattsieesq says:

Pretty solid team PJ8. I've gone the same ruck structure but with Cox and my R1. Good luck for the season.

        • SCdonkey says:

Unfortunately my ruck structure is not like yours. I am going with Jacobs and Sandi then Derickx and Thurlow at the bench. My cover is Dixon up fowards, e.g.
          Ruck; Jacobs, Sandi, Derickx, Thurlow
Fwd; Dusty, Roughie, Dixon, Kennedy, Titch, Higgins, KHJ, Impey
If Sandi gets rested then Thurlow will switch with Dixon and Sandi will be benched or traded and hopefully he has made enough cash before something happens.
After the switching the team will look something like this
          Ruck; Dixon, Jacobs, Sandi, Derickx
Fwd; Dusty, Roughie, Kennedy, Titch, Higgins, KHJ or Impey, Thurlow
But if Sandi gets injured hoping he has made me enough cash for an upgrade trade, then it look something like this
Ruck; Upgraded R1, Jacobs, Derickx, Thurlow
Fwd; Dusty, Roughie, Dixon, Kennedy, Titch, Higgins, KHJ, Impey
As for a Dummy I have it somewhere else, basically Thurlow is my Dummy player in the ruck having him in my team and a Dummy for captain Loophole in Ruck is just a waste of two spot.

    • SCaddict says:

Good looking line-up PJ8. Nothing glaringly wrong there.

I like your pick of Hurn for D3. Should have a great year.

    • Philthy says:

I reckon Aish is a risk, Hawks then Geelong….. he'll get more kicks in the head than kicks

    • Rocksta says:

Although I have different players, almost Identical structure to my team PJ8.

3 Rookies in Guts, MacD as your D6, Higgins and Rohan F7,F8.

Main Difference is you have spent more at R1 ( Goldy versus my Dog Dog), whilst I've spent more at F4 ( Titch vs Caddy)

Thus, looks good to me. Good Luck

    • Rocksta says:

      Try Again:

Higgins and Rohan at F5, F6 that is.

Also forgot to mention your Midfield Rookies are exactly the same as mine.

Great looking team PJ8, but agree with Jock on Higgins. Have had to downgrade Pendels to keep him out though. Tough call that one.

  61. SC Hardnut says:

Which is the better combo? Suckling & J. Grimes, or Webster & Enright?

      • Wattsieesq says:

I'd go second one. Mummy and Tyson have looked good and I think Gunston will have a great year. Not sure about Aish (I got burnt by K Mitchell last year and am getting a similar vibe) and not sure how Franklin will go.

Great podcast. I'm really looking forward to this season. It is up in the air with the rookie prices, but I'm still sticking to a (mostly) guns and rookies strategy. The forward line is the only place for mid pricers as they are giving us some decent value this year

      • SCaddict says:

        No you're right Wattsie.

It's what makes picking rookies in the second week so tricky and increases the appeal of the first week rookies that are named.

Community, thoughts on Shane Savage this season. With a seriously depleted midfield he looks prime for a good 90+ each week?

    Your thoughts are welcome?

    • Callum says:

Yeah he’s a risk, but could turn in some dividends. It would be safer to go with daisy or shield who are price about the same. Savage would be least picked by all teams out of those 3 and as mentioned in the podcast, the m5 position could make or break your season, so having a pod there could set you ahead of the others. With his stats though, he has never been a truly prolific ball winner.

  75. stewart says:

All, come friday, will you still have unlimited trades through the rolling lockout for teams that have not played.

  76. Michael C. says:

What do people think of Troy Menzel (Carlton) as F6? Seems to have reasonable job security with Betts gone west.

  77. Sean says:

I notice a lot of people have Georgio on their bench. Isn't there an issue that if he doesnt get upgraded it will be too late to bring in the likes of Langdon and Clurey because they will have already played

    • Dee says:

Tossing up between him and Minson or maybe even Nic Nat…

    • jeremy_menz says:

Only pick a player at that price if you intend to stick with him all season. Once Bellchambers is back, his scores will drop

      • Multiple scoregams says:

Who else would you choose around him price?

        • jeremy_menz says:

For 20k less, Lobbe. Personally though I'm rolling with Leuenberger (523k)

        • Shinboner says:

I'm steering clear of these 'value premium' ruckmen. This includes Jacobs, Pyke, Ryder and Mumford.

McEvoy is the cheapest of the premium rucks I'm considering. Ironically, I just don't see value in these guys (perhaps Lobbe excluded). You get what you pay for, and plumping out for a Goldstein, Minson, Cox type will give you a ruckman capable of multiple 120 scores, as opposed to the solid 90-95 you'd get from some of these cheaper blokes. I like to think of the no. 1 ruckman as a ninth midfielder.

  92. THE SALTSHAKER says:

3 days to go and heads spinning, happy with my players, uncertain about structure and if i will generate enough cash with value picks.

Keep leaning back to GnR strategy, yet hard to pass up value targets grrrr not sure whether to go extra rookie in mid while they are available at start or gun – massive dilemna keep changing.

Caddy (great NAB and midtime) or Rowan (better cash generation and spare cash incase daisy higgins or sandi breaks down )

    • Kevan says:

I've tried to get interested in the mid-prices, but the gut won't let me. GnR it is, three rooks in the mid. Plus Sandi of course and definitely no Higgins.

  93. The Pom says:

I'd love to hear the community's thoughts on Aish vs J.Martin.
Aside from the obvious price difference, which one do you think is likely to make more cash?
Seems to me Martin is almost becoming a POD after seeming to be a lock at the start of the pre season banter!

    • Higgs says:

      Both should be ok.

I would go Aish as I believe they will prob average around the same. Aish should get alot of games – hell the lions are already trying to tie him to a longer contract and he hasnt played one game!

      • The Pom says:

Yeah I can't see there being much in there scores.
Like I said earlier, I'm starting to think Martin might actually be a POD!
Of course that does rely on him actually coming up with the goods!

        • noob says:

if you cant see much difference in scores, and martin is so much more expensive, then the only POD in those two is the extra price you are paying – or also less money being generated….doesnt take an Einstein to figure out that is a terrible POD

Good luck pommy – your SC season will be as fruitful as the ashes tour was for your countrymen

          • The Pom says:

Read the post again my friend. What I said was that I couldn't see there being "much" in there scores.
Not that I couldn't see there being any difference at all. Just not much. It's a subtlety you appear to have missed.
Therefore, I was asking the community for their views on which one might earn me more cash.
By such small margins, leagues are won and lost.
As for the POD. If I have Martin and hardly anyone else does I think it makes him a POD for me, yes?

            • noob says:

reread my post again chum – i also said "much", suggesting i did in fact read your post correctly.

my understanding of your post is that by there not being "much" difference in their scores, but there being a BIG difference in price and hence cash generation – these are not players your are keeping for the entire season. the POD of difference will really come out not in the average of 5 points being two rookies in rounds 1-8, but the potential 20 point difference because after trades you could only afford a "premium" instead of an "elite"…and that is where leagues are really won or lost.
              ya get me?

  97. James says:

Why is everyone going Corey Enright over Jimmy Bartel?
Is it worth going with 4 onfield rookies in the MID?

    • Higgs says:

If your are playing only for a league GF win then 4 rookies are ok as you will get the best cash generation and have a stronger team come finals time.

If you are after total points it is my opinion that you are one premo short in the mids. The extra cash gained wont be enough to make back the points you will be behind from the start. The mids are you point scorers – and I believe 3 onfield rooks is max

  98. Higgs says:

Guys talk to me about ROBBIE GRAY!!

The very talented midfield for the power is a decent option for those comparing the Pavs, Gunnys, and Zorkos of the world.

After coming back from injury in the preseason Robbie played every game from round 4 onwards for a respectable average of 82.1.

In those 18 games he broke the ton 7 times. Not too bad. But it gets better… He was vested 3 times on his way back from injury which effectively means he got 7 tons in 15 games.

His average over those 15 games is a very healthy 91.66.

Port are a team on the way up and Robbie wont get any attention as that is normally reserved for the likes of Boak, Hartlett and Wingard.

Have I got your attention now?

    • Rocksta says:

I'm a big Robbie Gray Fan Higgs.
Wingard will get heavily tagged this year due to how damaging he can be leaving Robbie Gray to run free.
You're right, this will be the first uninterrupted pre- season he's had for a while.
Great Stat on the vest………………makes him look even more attractive given he

      • Higgs says:

I was checking out the options around that price for my F4 and he stood out considerably to me. Helps that he is a good user of the ball as well

        Locked.

        • jeremy_menz says:

Don't mind him, but for the bit of extra cash, I think Parker has a fair bit more upside

    • WombatsFC says:

He was integral to my forward line right through until the NAB finished.
He is a v.good player and consistent but he is extremely injury prone and his 100+ scores have been dependent on a lot of time in the middle, he wont have as much midfield time this year.
$60k less and you can get Wright who is a walk up start for offensive midfielder at Crows. Check his history when in the offensive role 120+ and with Adelaide having so many of their offensive midfielders up on blocks he likely to have the role for at least the first 6 weeks.

  99. Sully321 says:

    Aish, Ellis or sheed?

  100. stelzermayte says:

Anyone giving R.Shaw a punt against GWS? Not wasting a trade cause of the open rounds. I think I'm gonna take the risk in having Shaw, potentially getting the 83 he got in the NAB Challenge Match against the Giants. Thoughts on risking Shaw getting below 50, but maybe over 80, or locking McDonald in for a certain 75ish score. Thanks guys.

    • Higgs says:

Shaw is currently in and out with Webster in my team.

If I had mcdonald I would make sure he is in the team most weeks – as well as Shaw

I would guess you have too much money in your defence

    • Shinboner says:

Luke Mac cannot be left out. Picking Shaw this year is akin to picking Tony Armstrong in 2013. Fool's gold. He will, at best, appreciate in value marginally and his scoring output won't exactly be astronomical either.

Looks good 89K. Can't really find any dangers (other than the obvious Higgins burnman thoughts). Nice PODs in the mid and fwd lines. Not many will have Fyfe and Wingard.

Honeychurch won't make R1 selections so consider Impey or Merret (McDonough if he makes the Tiges 22).

      • 89k says:

I've been toying with the idea for Higgins as he is just about, the most notorious burnman in the southern hemisphere. However the bloke is priced so low that even if you squeeze some cash out of him – he's worth the burn.

    • WombatsFC says:

Hibberd is as solid as a rock and guaranteed 90pts when he plays. He has had a couple of hammy injuries in his short career and he has broken down on the first game back each time. I doubt that the Bombers will risk him with a round 1 comeback but maybe they will. It's important to remember that his other recoveries were most probably "assisted" and this one wont be.

Other than that it's a very solid team but I reckon you can score the same points but make a few more dollars if you re-think F1,2,3

      • 89k says:

        Interesting…Who would you suggest for F1 ,2, 3? '''

        Cheers,

        • throttlefinger says:

Wombats is trying to talk you out of Dangerfield and join him on his solo journey without Danger R1-8. Which I think will put you in danger.

Think F2 and F3 are places to stray from the pack. I have Dusty but could see Roughy or Boomer as a good choice. Wingard, just a little much to ask. Has the ability in spades so if you feeling him, go with him 89K.

          • 89k says:

I was tossing up between Roughy & Wingard, but I figured Windgard will get more touches/tackles. Dusty in my opinion is a burnman. Can't run out games for mind.

  110. WombatsFC says:

There isn't any value in picking a player in your starting simply as a POD if he isn't likey to score more than the popular alternative.

POD doesn't mean Point of Difference in the early rounds of Supercoach it actually means Probable Outright Destruction.
If you are only playing for league win but are concerned that you next opponent has the same team use your trades.
It is primarily how you trade during the season that determines who wins the game.

    1. Ellis or Michie

    • yes I do hav bacon says:

      Ellis
Jkh no certainty to start, but there is bound to be a cheap rookie in round 1 for at least 1 of the teams. Vestage is always a concern but we have to live by the sword to get anywhere in this beautiful game. Just go in with a backup plan.

  112. Coneyman says:

Caddy or Thomas?? Caddy offers DPP, but thomas more proven.. and injury cloud..?

    • yes I do hav bacon says:

Not real keen on 1st year key forwards myself Daryl, better options out there…

    • Bruds says:

      Way too much risk Daryl
We saw Johnny Patton have an interrupted first season and didn't start until mid season and at 40k less, Rohan would be a much safer bet.

      • daryl_prasad says:

Just curious, why is he anymore risk than McD…relatively puny 80 kg backman who will be playing against Essendon first round.

    • Garglesnarf FC says:

Job security an issue, and with high starting price unlikely to reach max potential until well after rnd 14. Possible downgrade option for later in the season when he hits the bubble, but not a starter.

  116. NutSack says:

So I've taken the last 3 months OFF from SC to give my brain a major rest from the fantasy stress of years past- last year wasted SO much time doing 500+ different teams only to find out there were too many players left out at the last moment when teams were announced. Quietly had a look here and there at NAB challenge and listened to all the Podcasts but now is the most important 48 hrs and hopefully my 100 day break leaves me fresh for the next 2 days.

Ohhh [email protected] its a split round so we dont even know of the rookies who will be left out in the 2nd week! Damn it really is a guessing game now.

So seems everyone has there teams set and know one even knows if Aish. Mc Donald, JKH, Langdon, Crouch, etc are even gonna line up.

So my question is- WHATS EVERYONES PLANS WHEN THE SECOND WEEK OF ROUND 1 COMES AROUND AND 70% OF THE CHOSEN ROOKIES ARENT SELECTED?

WILL IT BE SELECT THEM ANYWAY HOPING THEY PLAY EARLY LIKE CROUCH LAST YEAR, OR DO WE ALL JUST PICK THE ROOKIES BASED ON WHETHER THEY ARE NAMED TO LINE UP IN ROUND 1?

OR IS EVERYONE CHOOSING ROOKIES WHO ARE PLAYING IN WEEK 1 OF ROUND 1 TO GUARENTEE STARTS?

    Thanks in advance.

    • throttlefinger says:

Welcome back Nutter. I've went back and forth on this issue a lot the last couple weeks. Basically yes, not as big a selection as last year. But there's a selection.

Defs are the hardest for sure. Everything I've saw and been reading, I think there will be enough R1 starting rooks to put two on the field and two on the bench. Maybe 1 on the bench won't play or get the vest. McD, Camerson, Langford, Georgiou and Clurey did well during NAB. Would be shocked if only 2 of those 5 didn't make the 22.

Now some have decided not to roll the dice and make McD the D6, which is a very wise and prudent move. That's throwing a bit of money at a position not known for predictable or high scores.

I'm going to go with McD at D5 then hope Camerson and Clurey make the 22. If Clurey doesn't (which may happen), hope Langford can fill in. Then it's hoping Georigiou gets elevated to seniors for D8. That's the plan.

Mids there's plenty to pick. And forwards, JKH, Impey, Merrett, McDonough and Rohan are all probably starters.

All will be well, NutSack. Delock the All Caps and relax.

Hey guys quick question, monfries or mayne thanks

    • PJ8 says:

Gee tough one mate, I think both would have similar output.

I would have to say Mayne though, but honestly I wouldn't be picking either in my side

    • throttlefinger says:

Hmmmm. Monfries is the more reliable. Yet, Mayne you can sense is on verge of breakout.

Gotta tell ya Wombats, couldn't favor one over the other. Apologies for the empty calorie response.

  120. alex dp says:

WHEN does the unlimited trade ability ie to finalise your team before maximum of 2 trades per week come into place, is it before friday nites game, please advise

    • PJ8 says:

The 2 trades a week restriction will come in as soon as Rd 1 is completely finished, so in the week leading up to Rd 2.

You will be able to trade as much as you like during Rd 1 for players who have not yet played. But players that have already played will be locked in and locked out once their game starts.

Would like to hear your thoughts

    • PJ8 says:

I like both and think both will defiantly up their scoring significantly from last year.

But head to head I'm on the Caddy train.

      • Billy says:

Same here. It is to risky to have them both. And caddy is also a bit cheaper!

        • Wattsieesq says:

It's interesting that Caddy has scored an average of 60 for the past 3 years. Is it him being injury free and the cats having injuries and departures that are getting people excited about him?

          • PJ8 says:

I was originally selecting him because of Joel Corey retiring and he seemed like he would slot into the midfield. But now with injuries to Christensen and Motlop it's looking even better.

He has talent and will be a gun, Geelong pushed hard to get him. It's not a matter of if he will breakout it's a matter of when. Looks like a lot think it will be this year.

    • jazzy says:

  123. John says:

    hey guys
as like everyone im always changing my team – how does this look ? I know my back line is heavy but the first 4 will be held all year ( barring Injury ) and same with FWD Line, i also know my rucks are VERY Risky , but ive always had this strategy and it has worked so may as well stick with it.

love some feedback or any trade changes

    Def: Mcveigh,Mitchell,Hanley,Hurn,Webster,Mcdonald
    ( Langford , Georgiou )

    Mid: Ablett,Rocky,Cotchin,Mcrae,Aish,Ellis,Polec
    (Dunstan,Croch )

    Fwd: Danger,Dusty,Parker,Mitchell,Caddy,Higgins

    • John says:

      sorry forgot Beams

      Mid: Ablett,Rocky,Cotchin, BEAMS ,Mcrae,Aish,Ellis,Polec
      (Dunstan,Croch )

      • throttlefinger says:

        Hey John:

Uber strong def line. Hurn is a good pick and having McD as your D6 will ensure no zeroes.

Mids are interesting. Rockliff, while I love, is on a rebuilding Lions team. May have him later but they will have some pain, especially with Hawks and Cats to start. McRae is a good risk but be prepared to corrective trade if he's not delivering.

Rucks: Simply, this is risk OVERLOAD. Hickey did not look good in second NAB. Throw in Sandi and you're asking for trouble. Even if you picked Grundy, you would be taken less of a risk…and THAT'S a big risk itself. Need one ruck you can count on. And you sort of have one. You NEED one. Apologies for the all caps parade.

Fwd line is tight. Parker and Mitchell? So that's where you're ruck moola went, my man. Pick one or the other and go to Pav or Zorko. Or roll the dice and go Vickery or Dahlhaus, both who looked very strong during NAB and are at the breakout parts of their career. Or keep both Titch/Parker and downgrade Higgins to Rohan or under $200K.

That's my two cents. Hope some of it helps.

        • John says:

          thanks throttlefinger…..

Im happy to take the punt on Rocky , so il leave my DEF & MID

would you run with caddy and higgins ?? i can downgrade one of them to rohan and upgrade hickey ??

          • throttlefinger says:

Caddy. No question. He’s improved and the Cats forward line is ripe for the taking. Looked very strong during NAB. Slot him in!

  124. Sully321 says:

    2 out of these 4:
    Clurey, georgiou, Langford and cutler

    • PJ8 says:

I would base these rookie selections on if they are named Rd 1. If all are named look at where they will play. For example if they play key position back that won't score as much points as a running half back.

      • Logic says:

Yes but if Langdon and clurey are named round one select them? Ide prefer Georgio and Langford but it would be too late to select them?

    • throttlefinger says:

Langford and Georgiou. Have a feeling both will get the nod BUT both may only play a couple rounds.

  125. benisbill says:

I'm currently sitting on the following team, but would prefer to upgrade Langdon to Ellis on my mid bench. Any suggestions on how? Only $22,800 in the bank at present.

DEF: McVeigh, Mitchell, Hanley, Enright, Webster, McDonald (Langford, Georgiou)

MID: Pendlebury, Fyfe, Cotchin, Beams, Thomas, Aish, Polec, Dunstan (Crouch, Langdon)

    RUCK: Lobbe, Sandilands (Thurlow, King)

FWD: Dangerfield, Wingard, Mitchell, Pavlich, Caddy, Rohan (Taylor, Kennedy-Harris)

    • PJ8 says:

I would downgrade one of your top 4 defenders to Suckling if you want to free up some cash.

    • Derek says:

you have gone expensive in defence, I would replace one of your expensive defenders with a cheaper option. Suckling is good value, but I would also consider Birchall at 496k (he is a gun)

  126. jazzy says:

    hey guys,

taking a few risks but here's my team and any help or advice would be appreciated:

    Backs: Mitchell / Hurn / Suckling / McDonald / Bugg / Jaensch

    Mids: Ablett / Pendlebury / Cotchin / Murphy / Beams / Tyson / Polec / Dunstan

    Rucks: Jacobs / Sandilands

    Forwards: Dangerfield / Martin / Mitchell / Wright / Caddy / Higgins

    what you all think??

  127. JX20 says:

Worried about X.Ellis on a hard Subi surface. Far too injury prone and still sticking with Jack Martin instead despite him being pricey. He'll improve out of sight on what we've seen and the huge expectations leading into the NAB would've affected anyone.

    • jazzy says:

I like everyone else was keen on martin but from what I have seen in preseason I think there are a lot of better options that are both cheaper and score more points.

  128. Garglesnarf FC says:

    For those wondering here are Shaun Higgins average disposals over his 8 year career;

    Kicks 9.67, Hand Balls 4.17 Marks 8.03

      • Chaos Overlord says:

Have Swallow at D4 may have to go down to Suckling but that would make 3 Hawks in defence.
Adelaide seem light on for Defenders period and Matthew Jaensch has been one of best preformed in NAB cup for any defender.

        Any love for him ?

  131. Josh says:

What is the go with Stefan Martin, I thought he was a pretty handy footballer. At Brisbane you'd think that he would get plenty of game time. Especially if people were looking to go with 3 midpriced ruckman I believe he would be one that would come to mind, If he did manage to get on the park what would your thoughts be on picking him as a POD. I only have 340 k to spend on my last ruckman and already have sandy. I am either looking at the big H mac or Hampson. What are the community's thoughts?

    • Logic says:

Martin injured hickey or find money for grundy
