    • Reggie says:

Rubbish, start from scratch…very similar to my team, definitely looking to see how Claye Beams travels early. Very much a top-end/bottom-end team though. Midpriced players?

    • Sarah says:

It's all dependent on the quality of the rookies. Looks good at the moment but that may change leading into round 1.

    • yurkins says:

Too thin in the Fwd Line. Scale back on one of the mid-priced in the Def and use the dough to amp up your fwd line. Also too many high priced rookie mids. Cull 2 to low priced mids. Risk in the rucks with no swing man such as Dixon in Fwd line. Risky.
How many round 8 bye players have you got? too many of your premos out for that round so low score assured. Use the higginator.

    • Stick says:

Need some POD's in there Fraz to jump ahead of the pack to many Prems Mids from Bye R8.

    • Gilly says:

Hi Fraser, looks solid at this stage, obviously will learn more about rookies in next two weeks.

In my opinion don't think that you can start with Pendlebury, Swan and Beams with Collingwood having round 8 bye. Also with Ablett having bye in round 8 you are going to be thin in the middle that week.

    • Pieman1978 says:

G’day Fraser. Breaks my heart to say you’ve got too many Pies in the Midfield. Round 8 bye will murder you. Thinking you need to clip at least 1 of Pendles & swan & reinvest in your forward line. I was at the pub last night with the boys & Jock wouldn’t stop talking about nick Robertson from Brissy. Find a place for him

      • David says:

Yuk. Spending $625,000 on Steve J…
How can you not have Mitchell in your side?
Sorry but if you don’t have Mitchell in you don’t know fantasy footy!

      • Michael says:

thinking maybe next time condense instead of just copy/paste so there's no need to scroll 10 pages? Maybe just me but I can't get my head around your team with it looking like this. Like your pick of Wingard though, def breakout contender. Agree with other posts re round 8 issue + no Mitch + SJ too eksy.

    • Revesby Rogue says:

Five mids (3 premium, would be premium and a rookie) with a rd 8 bye might be a prob. Strong team though.

  2. taylorwoof says:

Slap on the wrist as i didn't complete the sheet last night. Will complete Hawks v Lions sheet (my beloved Hawks) this evening.

Did notice last night a lot of unaccountable football. Plenty of space around contests, blokes running free off half back.

Taylor Adams won't get that much room around the contest in the regular season. Opposition coaches won't allow an elite defender like Enright that much freedom in the back half when the real stuff begins.

Higg has nailed everything on his attached sheet. Superb work Higg!!!!

    • Sarah says:

Very good point. I reckon the pre-season games can tend to muddy the supercoach waters rather than make them clearer.

    • throttlefinger says:

Wondering the same thing about Guthrie as well. Mirage or preview of things to come. Will watch their second NAB game a little more closely.

    • SCannonymous says:

I tend to think Taylor Adams got a lot of footy in tight in a reasonably hot game and I don't see him copping a tag. He has clean hands and is a quick thinker. I'm not suggesting I will take him at $400K, but I suspect he will post plenty of good scores.

      • throttlefinger says:

Think from a viewing standpoint, he should do well. Can't see him as SC relevant. Any other team, he'd be a consideration, SCannonymous.

        • taylorwoof says:

Perhaps i didn't watch it closely enough…i was doing stuff on my laptop at the same time. – re Taylor Adams. I'll have to catch the replay again. I watched the Hawks game more closely, being a Hawks fan. I guess i wasn't quite as keen on the Cats v Pies game as less rookies from those sides on my radar.

What did you blokes think of Tomahawk? From what i saw, he appeared to be moving more freely than he did in 2013.

          • throttlefinger says:

Tomahawk definitely looked more mobile. Did well. Like to see how well he does again. Will that back hold up against the weekly grind? Someone else, forgot who, said you could Jesse White at a cheaper price and in better health. We shall see.

Want to see how well Adams does with Swan. If he does as well as he did yesterday, he may be worth a punt.

            • taylorwoof says:

Good point re the weekly grind, as he'll be carry plenty of the load up forward this season.

Jesse White, i need to see that output a few times before i could take a punt on him. But definitely, if he backs it up then have to look at him for the reasons you mentioned there.

Could you start with Pendles, Beams & Adams? (or plan to offload Adams during the byes for a fallen premium?)……

              • throttlefinger says:

That would take some plums, but if you feel Adams is going to deliver more than say Gaff or Daisy, orr even Ellis for the Tigers, go for it. Think the odds it would serve you the way you want wouldn't be that high. Then again, if he shows some firepower against the Roos, it may be less of a risk. Just better options, I think.

Agree with White. Not strongly considering him. Another 80+ game I may.

                • taylorwoof says:

True, could be a good POD vs Thomas & Ellis in that price range. I'm open to starting a 350-400K player in my midfield this year, just not sold on anyone yet.

Really looking forward to Richmond v Melbourne. So many of those young Dees on the radar.

                  • throttlefinger says:

Me too. Tigers fan. Anxious to see how well Lennon does. As well if Dusty is truly going to be playing back more.

But yes Twoof, the main focus will be on the Deesters. Is Viv Mitchie worth consideration? Watts look like a new man? JKH as exciting as advertised? May have to set the alarm and watch live!

                    • taylorwoof says:

Tigers fan, nice!! No doubt you're pumped for the game then!

I was hearing a lot of early talk Lennon will find it tough to break into the B22, so haven't had him in my side at any time yet. Good performance this evening will change that for sure.

Good call re Dusty! I don't have him in my side at the moment. Think he's priced right at his top end (Burnt me in 2012 too!)…..he might be a bye upgrade target for me.

                    • throttlefinger says:

                      Roos looking considerably better, huh?

                    • taylorwoof says:

Looked a completely different side under Roos tonight, than when under Neeld.

I think Melbourne have a new cult figure in J.Kennedy-Harris. Will be on every forward line SC bench now.

                    • throttlefinger says:

Ha. Yep, that will be the good and bad. Given the dearth of starting rook forwards, we'll all have JKH.

          • SCannonymous says:

Woofman, I reckon Adams was clean and quick by hand and he could fit into the midfield (sloppy by foot at times however). The kids tough and can play, he likes the contested footy. If he can score at $400K for GWS, in a side that should win a few more games he should do at least that. But I agree with Throttle, there are better options at that price and as you've suggested Thomas and Ellis would be less of a risk I suspect, especially with Collingwood's early draw.

Having watched the replay, I agree Hawkins looked a lot more comfortable than last season. As a key forward he will have some big scores and some poor scores. If everything went right and he posted a number of big early season scores, you could get some capital gain if you're prepared to sell at the top (like Cloke of 2013). He is not in my plans at the moment.

            • taylorwoof says:

Agree SC, that would have to be the plan with Hawkins (sell high). Get in, get out…make a quick buck to upgrade to premium, fallen premium.

  3. jimbotraralgon says:

so here I was thinking the old side was pretty settled lest the rookies…but then I decided to write down my shortlisted 'watchlist' ready for the NAB games….

73 names later………looks like I have a bit of work to go yet!

  4. Favalinko says:

Hey guys anybody else have partial lockout

  5. Ando says:

How many rookies do we think it is right to have in the midfield this year 4 or 5?

  6. throttlefinger says:

Hard to get a read on the Hawks side when against so many youngsters. While I've been interested in Suckling, McEvoy and Gunston, don't know if this game is best measure if they are R1 worthy.

    • taylorwoof says:

      I agree Throttle!

Next NAB match for the Hawks is against North Melbourne. Hopefully North have a strong squad, then we'll get a better line on those three you mentioned. McEvoy v Goldy, Gunston v S.Thompson, and see what Suckling's role is when Birchall is in the same side.

      • throttlefinger says:

I think that will have more starters from both ends, because this is the last warmup before the H&As. I've almost prescribed myself to not really take too much away from today's game other than Hawks are in great shape to take another flag.

      • SCannonymous says:

McEvoy is tempting, and now playing for Hawthorn, that should result in a greater number of knockouts to advantage. Your right Woofman, McEvoy v Goldy very interesting, especially given the fact that Trent West had as many hitouts as Mc Evoy.

        • throttlefinger says:

With the news of NicNat unlikely for round 1, I'm starting to think about McE as R1. Not feeling totally confident about it. Seeing how he does against Goldy will help push decision, especially for the point you mentioned SCannonymous.

    • Philthy says:

Reckon Gunston is a big show this year, competes well in air and ground level, can get away from his man, from 20 games LY had 8 x 100+ and only 3 <70, hawks will be up top again, plenty of goals to go around

Mitchell LOCK, Suckling too cheap to ignore, Cyril looking LOCKish too….

      • throttlefinger says:

Suckling I'd like to see more. Cyril needs to show much more to consider a spot on the squad. Gunston I'm feeling great about. Just need another showing similar against the Roos to put him in for R1.

      • Derek says:

Anyone in the Hawks forward line will be a good choice this year. They are going to kick good scores and their midfielders don't kick a lot of goals. No real bargins though.

        • throttlefinger says:

Spot on, Derek. A wealth of talent that will cost you. Of the bunch, Gunston is leading the way for me.

  7. SCannonymous says:

Hmmmm, hard to take much out of this game other than Gartlett didn't play.

  12. Dee says:

    Derek you sure about Docherty?

    • SCannonymous says:

      Derek is spot on.
Andrew McKay of Carlton FC (see Carlton website) announced Docherty had been hindered by some quad tendon pain which following surgery a couple of days ago turned out to be a bit of debris behind the knee cap. McKay suggested Docherty will be set back by 4 to 5 weeks.
With Motlop and now Christensen out of Geelong – this opens up a small forward position at the Cats (any suggestions on candidates?)
This news will give many SC teams much to think about, I'm sure there are more twists and turns still to come before R1!!

      • Derek says:

I could never tell Stokes, Christensen and motlop apart. This will make it easier if only one is playing.
        Stokes too expensive

Spot on SC…. Thanks for that Derek. Caddy is looking like a good choice now, or maybe TOMAHAWK? Apparently he is feeling a lot better this year, kicked 4…. Could be a very good POD. What about Robbie Gray from PORT? He is on my radar too…. Thanks guys!

    Polec?
Matt White (price makes him SC irrelevant – but under rated at Tigers and should be good for Port).
Consider some of the names for Adelaide who will be very keen to impress for possible midfield job security:
(Sloane, Douglas, Thompson, Danger = safe) Wright, McKay, Kerridge, Douglas, Ellis-Yolmen, B.Smith, B.Martin, Grigg and the Crouch brothers.

    • Super_Freak says:

Out of the 5 blokes we lost at Brisbane, Polec was the one I was worried least about. Sure, he was taken in first round, but hasn't shown that much since, and has been injured a lot. He seems to rate himself more than anyone else does. He may have a good season, but you would have to have pretty big plums to select him straight up.

I’m not a big fan of Murphy. Not a keeper in my opinion, but not a cash cow either (might get $50k but not much more). Spend a bit more and get cotchin or Kennedy.

      • McClungeMagnet says:

Marc Murphy is defiantly a keeper. Averaged over 110 for I don't know how many years now and had a bad year due to injury, taggers and captaincy. Take injury out of the equation, improvement against taggers who might be sucked into Thomas, and improvements on handling the captaincy, he will average at least 100. Even the winner last year had Priddis and Mundy who averaged 100.

      • jimbotraralgon says:

sorry Derek. Think you are on the wrong bus wit Murphy. He will average 105 minimum and maybe into 115.

Dollars per point he will be right up there. =value.

    • jimbotraralgon says:

      very solid side mate.

Would definitely lose caddy, he is neither here or there. Should give you cash to upgrade swallow…he hasn't changed any key stats in 2 years. McVeigh or walker seem likely options.

If martin returns the same as omeara, that's $180k made. Keep. IMO.

    • Cameron says:

Still so unsure on how many games laidler will get considering how many injured swans defenders are back…
Unless one of their defenders goes down, I'd look elsewhere

  23. Leon says:

Tom Bell, thoughts. Nearly 23, 16 games only. Solid midfielder who gets the hard ball and can finish with goals. Judd out could mean this kid is given a lot of game time. Awkward price at 311k. POD?

  24. Jake says:

Backline: Mitchell, Lumumba, Swallow, Atley, Suckling, Laidler. (Bench: Cutler, Fuller) – Lumumba, Swallow and Atley playing predominantly in the midfield?

Midfield: Ablett, Murphy, Beams, Shuey, Thomas, Savage, Martin, Michie. (Bench: O'Rourke, Dunstan) – Murphy, Beams, Shuey, Thomas and Savage to become premiums?

Rucks: McIntosh, Sandilands. (Bench: Hickey, Nankervis) – Surely one of those 3 plays consistently?

Forwards: Dangerfield, Roughead, Franklin, Zorko, Caddy, Bock. (Bench: Garlett, Kennedy-Harris) – Forwards light this year, stocking up seems like the best idea!

    Thoughts/Suggestions on the team?

    • Leon says:

As a saints supporter I would back Longer over hickey as he can play forward more. Choose one depending on NAB cup form.
Zorko is a burner and I worry about selecting premiums from teams that will struggle. Midfield COULD be strong but lots must go right. IMO you can only have one of shuey, Thomas and savage. Drop one for a rookie and upgrade the other and murphy to reliable premiums.

  25. SCannonymous says:

Leon – I suggested Bell was worth watching in NAB. I reckon he will play nearly every game this year. He's ready to go. It's just a question of price v's rookie selection and capital gain. It's good to have one mid pricer, so he's competing with Daisy and the likes…

  26. Leon says:

Agree that he is competing with Daisy. Can't have both it seems. Just seems to be able to find his own ball and kicks goals.

    • derek says:

Shuey is an interesting choice. I want to have a WCE midfielder in my team at the start because they have a good draw. I had him last year and he was ok at best. Maybe Priddis?
On the other hand COLL don't have a good first 8 weeks, so if you are thinking of an upgrade after week 8 of Shuey to Pendlebury, could be a good move.

Rioli choice is inspirational. He will only miss one week (no big deal) and you will be one of the only people to have him, and not have to trade him in and burn a trade.

Selwood is a great player but traditionally is a slow starter. He will be on my radar as an upgrade.

I had Lamb in my team, but gone off him. The main reason in that he is from GWS. Having a FORWARD from GWS doesn't seem logical, so i am looking for small forwards from Cats, Hawks, Swans, Freo etc. Same can be said for Zorko. If he plays forward, i'm not sure BRIS will score enough points this year.

  40. Pieman1978 says:

I put GAJ back in my team last week & I’ve been sleeping much better since. Last night further emphasised that. Jock has been banging on about the Martin & Omeara comparison. The father of fantasy is spot on if last night is anything to go by. He’s going to have to do something special to force his way back into my team.

This is just rough so far still a lot of guys i wanna check out in the NAB CHallenge. I have $19,500 cash left. If you have any tips or advice please let me know Thanks

  42. Sarah says:

Hey, I thought I was the only one who had thought about N Jones!! I think there's a bit too much risk there personally. Also after last nights performance I've cooled to sub-zero temperature on Dixon. Hardly showed anything.

    • PJ8 says:

I wouldn't worry about Dixon's poor game last night. The suns played Nicholls and Gorringe. Those 2 are fighting for the no.1 spot. In the H&A season only one of those will play with Dixon playing FWD and being back up.

Dixon will get ruck minutes and has the ability to kick bags of goals. He will score well.

He also only played 60% game time last night.

  43. James says:

No mention of Lee Spurr in tonight's sheet or best 22?

  44. Jayjtee says:

Hi all, this is my latest combination & any feedback would be welcome.

DEF: Hibbert, Hanley, S.Mitchell, Suckling, K.Kolodjashnij. Mcdonald (Fuller, Cutler)

    MID: Ablett, T.Mitchell, D.Thomas, Murphy, D.Beams, Zeibell, , C.Beams, O'rourke (Perris, M.Crouch)

    RUC: Minson, Sandilands (Currie, Thurlow)

FWD: Pavlich, Franklin, Dixon, Gunston, Rohan, Franklin (Kennedy – Harris, Honeychurch)

  45. Jayjtee says:

    exactly 140,000K remaining

  46. Belly says:

Guess Ellis was a good get

  47. Ocker says:

Another reason not to take too much out of this first round of 18 games in 18 days. WHO was coaching Freo? Peter Sumich, Freo not playing their normal game. Lyon was there but is he doing what he did to us in last years final? Total case of dropping the ball and where is the senior coaches accountability. This is a totally different game plan.

    Forget game was played.

  48. Grufflez says:

Its NAB CUP! no one takes it seriously least of all the coaches…the only players who try are the blokes trying to get into their teams best22 in R1..its practice for the pro's and an opportunity for coaches to try position changes and unusual game plans.

Listen to Jock…watch rookies/player positions and nothing else.

Dixon still in my team otherwise i'll have to ditch Sandi which i am strongly considering.

    • Ocker says:

Fair enough to try positional changes and unusual game plans, I Listen to Jock, Higgo and Crouch. Listened on radio and did not sound right. Will watch replay tomorrow.

Know where you are coming from Grufflez but a coach has a job in my opinion and should be doing it himself.

Dixon was always in my team but I can't see keeping him.

      Looks like another restructure.

    • throttlefinger says:

Sandi looked in fine form. Dixon should've showed a little more than he did. Understand the focus is on the rooks but approach in a game is something to consider. Sammy Mitchell didn't half gas it. Dixon looked lost. 50/50 on him. For price, he needs to show a lot more in next game.

      • Grufflez says:

Good to hear Sandi looked alright :)

        • throttlefinger says:

91 SC points, Grufflez. Looked active and played most of game. Kept playing hard with game out of reach. Unless he goes heel in NAB2, looks like a surefire R2.

          • scooter says:

Sandi had 46 hit outs and was improvin as the game wore on admittedly Cox was off by then but still very impressive first time he has been in my team this year went into the game with masten as my pod eagle but now I have put wellingham in both look set to have similar output but wellingham 140 k cheaper

            • throttlefinger says:

Masten did look good. Hurn is my lone Eagle. Considering Shuey and Darling. Seem undervalued. Will feel more comfortable about adding one or both after next NAB game.

Like Wellingham. Talented as all get out. But nervous about slotting him in at the start. Definitely one to watch. May be perfect corrective for front line.

  49. Hien says:

    rockliff, watson or selwood?

    • Hien says:

      or…. let me rephrase that..
who is the best mid i should get besides gaz and pendles?

      • Hawkaz says:

probably want someone without the rnd 8 bye so watson would be your safest bet, or even a freo Mid like Fyfe/ Barlow, or another man from sydney whos looking to recapture is 2012 form.. i'll let you guess who

  52. Mac says:

Has anyone cited GC v Ess supercoach scores and can you direct me there please. Some interesting SC numbers from blue chip players so far. Fully understand it's NAB but still not a great hitout by them. Less pressure is ballooning other's scores and the out of best 22 are busting to take their opportunity to work their way into starting teams. Have enjoyed the new format thus far.

  53. jimbotraralgon says:

big rookie game on tonight – dogs vs saints.

really want to lock into my side Fuller and Dunstan in particular

  54. @Fr3akMe says:

Garlett has been left out of second hawks nab cup game? will he even start the season ? may have to pull him out

    • jimbotraralgon says:

I'm afraid that might be the case. Looks like he will be made to earn his stripes. Still we need some of the rookies to come in mid season for downgrade options when cashing in our cows. We dont want everyone playing round 1.

  55. Duncan says:

What are Peoples Thoughts on Stephen Coniglio as a 3rd year Breakout contender. Former Number #2 Draft pick. Will Breakout at some stage and I think this is the year.

Averaged Mid 70s Too and should push that average up to 90 an beyond.
    Thoughts On him?

  56. Billy says:

Hey guys I am thinking of buying supercoach gold, is it really worth it?
    Thanks

    • derek says:

yeah. i had it last year and will get it again. You will like the analyiser when you are making trades. Gives you the cash cow breakevens, projected scores.

    • Mick says:

Yes because on Thursday night you can see by green orange and red lights who is selected to play who is an emergency and who is not ! – therefore worth every cent imo

    • Skippa says:

It is key Billy! Purely based on break evens its worth it, but very handy at the start of the year, you can see the previous 5 or so years of that players ave for that year. Handy when looking at players who may break out or have had a bad year last year.

  57. Grufflez says:

Nah save your money..nothing in SC gold that can't be found for free somewhere else

  58. David says:

Could we consider some of the Melbourne players?

  60. Derek says:

each morning I wake up and change my team.
I have it pretty close except for the final rookie choices. Although i'll probably only play 4 rookies in round 1 (KK, Mcdonald, Dunstan and a FWD rookie).
the other area I can't decide is my premium MIDS.
At moment I have Gaz, StevieJ, Cotchin, Kennedy, Murphy, Beams, XEllis, Dunstan (2x rookies)

What do people think of StevieJ over Pendlebury? He is $55k cheaper and I have $40k in bank, so I would have to find $15k elsewhere.

  61. PJ8 says:

Find the $15k Derek! I think Pendlebury is a must.

Wonder if you can help me out or anyone else:

    Pick 1 – Roughead, Wingard or D.Martin.

    • Sarah says:

      I say Roughead.

Didn't like what I saw from Martin of the half back and how Wingard handles a tag is a big unknown.

      • PJ8 says:

Thanks, Roughy is my choice at the moment but that F2 seems to be one spot I keep doubting myself and changing regularly.

    • Derek says:

Pendlebury is in my team on the odd days, so when I wake up tomorrow i'll swap him back in.

I was thinking Stevie J over pendlebury based on Geelong have a slightly easier first 8 games than Collingwood.

      StevieJ is a POD.

hmmmm. maybe I can have both…….

    • Blueprime says:

      Wingard

  62. PJ8 says:

Agree he is worth some thought, his SC averages over the past 5 years speak for themselves. But he is getting on, not getting any younger. The year will come where it catches up to him and i dont want to be the year i pick him so I wont be

Between the 540k -580k there are some serious DPP's

Priddis at 544,500 (2013 avg 101 Whole team didn't fire lat year, but could he get back up to 110+ ?.)

Boyd at 560,100 (2013 avg 103.8 with Griffen and Liberatore who will get more attention this year Boyed could run rampant and if he stays fit for 2014 he could get up around the 110 mark.)

J.Kennedy at 568,600 (2013 avg 105.4 still a good avg for some one who i feel was the most under performing mid for Sydney. I reckon he will be back over 110 this year.)

    • Derek says:

Cotchin is pretty handy as well

    • McClungeMagnet says:

All well and good saying all these players will score 110+ but who will drop out of the bracket. There won't be 30 110+ players next year.

      • David says:

Not saying that Priddis and Boyd will be at the 110 +
just a maybe in relation to future circumstances.

I do believe that J.Kennedy is most likely though.

  66. michael says:

    hey guys
ive got jack shaw franklin and parker from syd
and grundy cloke and beams from pies
is having 7 players from 2 sides a really bad idea? especially since they play each other early on!

  67. Rocksta says:

    I'm watching GWS vs Swans.
Tell you what, it's going to be a very difficult choice between Parker and Tom Mitchell as my F3/4.
They both look great. I may even have them both in ( maybe one in the guts as a DPP).
JPK also looks in fine Fittle.

    • throttlefinger says:

Completely agree, Rocksta. Giving round 1 to Titch. See what happens NAB2. Can't go wrong either way, yet you get the feeling Titch can break off for 130+ scores if he's in a groove. Not sure with Parker.

F3 position up for grabs but those two are the favs to be locked in.

  68. Rocksta says:

I decided on Titch in the guts ( awesome DPP), and Parker as my F3.
Currently have Sam Blease on Mid Bench as he is also a DPP so if he can string some form together will give heaps of flexibility through the guts.
The Beauty of having Titch in the Guts is that you can swap he and Danger at some stage resulting in both being ultra premiums for their respective true positions.
I literally change my team every night but I can safely say that I have decided on running with both of the Sydney boys going into Round 1 ( barring injury of course).
What did you think of Rohan? I thought he did enough to justify an F7 starting position

    • Rocksta says:

      Sorry, F5 I meant.

      • PJ8 says:

Tom Mitchell looks the goods so I don't think you can go wrong with that selection. He has always been a high SC scorer, even before Sydney picked him up. He will end up an elite SC player. Hope it is this year.

Come Round 1 I can see Sydney's starting midfield being JPK, K. Jack and Hannebery. Hopefully the likes of Mitchell , Parker and McVeigh can get enough midfield time to warrant their selection. Maybe Mitchell and Parker to play out on the wings, They could rack up plenty of ball there. Mcveigh to sweep across half back and also get plenty of ball.

I like Gary Rohan. I will be slotting him in F5. The Swans love him. Hopefully he kicks a few goals a game with 15-20 touches and he will rise in price very quickly.

    • Derek says:

I'm not sold on the idea. They won't get as much time in the middle come the real stuff.

  69. Pete says:

Great to see the younger guns (Mitchell, Parker, Jack etc) running through the middle. Sydney will be strong with them there, it frees up JPK, O'Keefe, McVeigh etc

Could it be their flag this year…

    (Geelong supporter)

  70. SCannonymous says:

    RADICAL SUGGESTION
Okay I am prepared to be shot down in flames, but this is what I am currently considering. I am considering Tom Lonergan at $247K in defence. Aiming to win a rather competitive league comp.
Justification: We pay a price for a player that we expect to return that price or better. I reckon Lonergan won't get much better nor worse, but what I do know is that he will be selected every week. Is there anyone with more job security in DEF under $350K?
I think he may allow me to have the likes of McDonald and Fuller in my team, and / or possibly roll the dice on a high risk high return mid pricer… I can choose whether or not to play Lonergan and he may provide me with the insurance when I want to send a DEF/MID to the midfield.
There is a risk I may be stuck with him for the year – but the worst case scenario I believe is he returns his price.
Something to ponder – and that's what I think this site is about.
Arguments for and against welcomed. (Especially Higgo type wisdom…)

    • Sarah says:

That's a bit too radical for me personally. Yes he's got high job security but you know you wont get many points for it or make any money. He'll start to annoy you mid season I reckon and you won't be able to do anything with him. Just my opinion tho.

    • Super_Freak says:

Not convinced either SC. Players in that price range are selected to earn cash and possibly keep if they go nuts.

      • SCannonymous says:

Thanks Super-Freak, I guess I'm just finding it hard to grab 3 or 4 definite starting rookies.
What if 3 of them aren't playing by round 2 or 3?

        • WombatsFC says:

There are plenty of defenders under 350k that will appreciate in value and play every game if they are fit.
Guthrie, Thurlow, Suckling, R.Shaw, B.Martin, M.Watson are just a few

        • Super_Freak says:

Dont forget Docherty. He'll probably miss the first few with injury, but he'll definately play. He will score well this year. A good upgrade option after he has played a few and one of your rookies has appreciated

        • derek says:

that is why we have 30 trades.

i think i'll be starting 4 rookies on the field round 1, all the bench will be rookies who are cash cows. The 4 starting rookies hopefully will get many games. IE: McDonald, Dunstan, KK, J Martin

  71. JX20 says:

Why the obsession with Brodie Grundy?
    – $363K for someone that has scored 76+ once in his 7 games.
    – How will he go carrying the load for a full 22 games?
    – I expect natural improvement but will that lead to 90+ average?

Sandilands? Injury prone sure, but finished 2014 scoring 100+ in three finals including 125 in the GF. It's gotta be worth the risk at 53K cheaper.

    • Dee says:

      Agreed….

    • Super_Freak says:

Agree also. If Sandi can stay fit he is a bargain. Not sure Grundy is quite ready to shoulder the permanent ruck duties at the pies and score big at the same time

      • Kevan says:

If you go with Sandi, Grundy is a good R3 option as he will play. Especially if you also go with Max King as the loop hole.

        • Super_Freak says:

I just don't know if I can bring myself to select a R3 that's not a rookie. A lot of money sitting on the bench to maybe get an occasional good score using the loophole. I still think the money is better spent elsewhere on the ground.

          • Kevan says:

Agree about the R3 rookie, but Sandi is too good to knock back at that price and you do need protection. Tricky one.

            • JimiHK says:

Super_Freak, have you thought of putting a FWD/RUC in at F2/3/4 and then having R3/4 as a RUC/FWD. That way if you have good FWD bench cover you can rotate across lines if Sandi goes down.

I've done that with Dixon at F2 and Thurlow at R4, just gives me a bit of piece of mind.

  72. Dee says:

G'day community… Quick question, N. Riewoldt & J. Watts or Hawkins & Hibberd. Opinions would be greatly appreciated…. Thank you!

    • Super_Freak says:

NR has been really consistent, just not sure how much more his body can take

Watts is a flat out BURNMAN

Hawkins has been injured, but still not convinced he can be a prolific SC scorer. Beware the KPF.

Hibberd had a really good 2013 and will probably only get better.

  73. Dee says:

    What's KPF or KPP mean?

  74. Tom says:

If anyone wants to join a supercoach league here's the code 666827

  75. Dee says:

G'day community… Quick questions day Jock & Community, who do you reckon will have the better year out of Aish, N. Robertson and X. Ellis. Out of the three I don't know who to leave out. Any suggestions anyone?

    • Wattsie says:

      G'day Dee.

I've got Elis in at the moment. I've been tossing up between him and Sheed. He's not a lock, I'd like to see his NAB2 game before that happens.

    • JimiHK says:

      G'day Dee.

Given how much they cost now I've been crunching the numbers hard on the rookies.

my thoughts on those 3 are that Robertson gives excellent bang for your buck, Ellis has the best ceiling but Aish has been disappointing considering his price.

FYI both Robertson and Ellis are currently in my team, but not Aish.

  76. Derek says:

Sam Mitchell is a LOCK and throw away the key

  77. David says:

If people are not so keen on Hawkins i have a couple i think that need to be considered around the same price.
Forwards are difficult to choose any year and this year proves most difficult.

    Eddie Betts $362,700 (2013 avg 67.2 pts)

His seasons from 2010 – 2012 avg is between 80.0 – 84.5 and what i think is interesting, he didn't miss a game in those three seasons. 2013 he only played 16 games and Carlton didn't have the big forwards on the park for the majority of the season. In fact Jarrod Waite played 12 games and S.Hampson 6 only games. Players like Betts play best when there are big Forwards on the park and Adelaide have Podsiadly, Jenkins and Walker.

Betts 2013 score in my opinion was effected by injury and lack of big forwards around him.

If he stays fit and to his potential
    My prediction 2014
    77-83 pts

give me 5 or thumbs up or more if you want to see my next option :)

    Cheers community love you guys!

  78. throttlefinger says:

Started NAB with eye on Garlett. Then moved to Hallihan. Looks like Langford is the rook lock on this team. Played 75% of the two NAB games with 69/109 SC scores. At worst will have him on bench.

    • McClungeMagnet says:

Back line rookies have really emerged this NAB and many forwards injured or left out. Would never have thought about georgiou, and Langford.

    • WombatsFC says:

Good call on langford throttle and wanganeen has some serious talent as well but, who are the hawks going to leave out to fit these guys in?

      • throttlefinger says:

Very good point, Wombats. Take with grain of salt as Birchall didn't play either game. Think Hallihan will get vest before he will.

From amount of game time Clarko put Langford in and his results can see him making 22. May throw him on bench or use for Def loop, as Hawks have later game.

        • WombatsFC says:

Thanks mate. I know the hawks have big things planned for Langford and his old-man was a hawks a great so I've I've penciled him into D8.
You probably already know that I've had to put a big red line through Carrazzo so, now I've got a gap at M7 I'm thinking of slotting Daisy in there but I'm not confident about his ankle. Maybe Lachie Hunter is a better prospect that'll give me an extra 50k for correctional trades, I'm sure to need 1 or 2 of them.

          How's your team looking?

          • throttlefinger says:

Pretty good. Weighing between two structures. Basically one that's leveraging steadier play and undervalue perms vs. one with a little more risk and PODs. Sounds drastically different but has a lot of same players and different in approach is basically a couple players (e.g. Shuey vs. Lids is one I'm considering. See upside for both)

Speaking of Hunter, I like him as my F5. Rather than do Lamb I like Hunter's play so far and his DPP status. But I think your use of him is very strong. Another in that price range is Lachie Whitfield. Doubt he'll get the tag and ball magnet. Sure, didn't do great last season and 2nd year curse and all, but has the talent to move past that. Looked great. Food for thought.

            • WombatsFC says:

Yeah I liked the look of Whitfield against Sydney and he will definitely escape the 1 & 2 taggers for a while but, he's 100k more than Hunter and the xtra 50k I make from downtrading caraz will be handy in the early rounds.
I'm still running with with gaz, pendle, jobe, rocky, beamer, smurph? and the same structures I posted previously for the other lines. M6&7 are my only real concerns I've only got about 900k to fill both spots and I can only allow 1 rook/wook mid on the field.

              • throttlefinger says:

Hunter may make more sense. Plus nice to have one DPP in mid field who will contribute. See Daisy as a wait and see. If he's up to form, can slot him in after R2. Can't see it. Not playing NAB isn't a good sign. Even if he plays NAB2, would have to be Sam Mitchell-level play to slot in.

Mine is looking a bit similar. Going Gaz, Pendles, Jobe/Griff, JPK, Beams, Shuey/Lids. Leaning towards X. Ellis but like to see how C. Beams does. Dunstan is a rook lock. Bench will be decided NAB 2 play and R1 selects. Forward line giving me fits. Your Riewoldt rant got through. Considering him before Danger. But also considering going all undervalue prems (and maybe Parker/Titch). Would like to slot Hunter in as F5, as I said. May not be possible, Wombats, but gonna try, my man.

  79. McClungeMagnet says:

What's everyone's opinion on Mitchell! Was NAB sucking is in or could he average 90-95 for the year or his hi se experienced body going to lead him to dip off like last year where he averaged around 60 for his last 5 not including the bye.

    • throttlefinger says:

Pure gun, McClunge. Works hard and knows how to break a tag. Will have few sub 100 games.

Simply put, he will be the Goddard of this season.

    • David says:

Because of other guns in Sydney team he wont be tagged either. I think watch next NAB game but he is heading towards lockability.

    • throttlefinger says:

Apologies McClunge. You meant Titch not Sammy. Think he'll do well. Game comes easy to Titch. Will struggle but will be outweighed by some massive scores.

  80. Macca says:

Hey jock what do you think about Saint Nick, easy first few games, seems nobody wants him over dustin? POD

  81. jonah says:

Thoughts would be extremely helpful. I will rate your team :)

DEF: Mitchell, Hibberd, Hurn, Suckling, R. Shaw, Mcdonald (Langford, Fuller)
MID: Ablett, Pendles, Watson, Beams, Shuey, Thomas, Ellis, Dunstan (Crouch, Robertson)
    RUC: Leuenberger, Sandilands (Derickx, Thurlow)
FWD: Dangerfield, Parker, Gunston, Pavlich, Rohan, JKH (Taylor, Honeychurch)

If Nicnat is fit by rnd 1 leuenberger will make way. Do you guys think my fwd/def is too weak?

  82. derek says:

I really like Pav & Gunston in FWDS. I would look at Franklin over Parker, other than that good FWDS.

Sandi is a lock and anyone who tells you otherwise will be getting him in round 3. Leuengerger is a risk, i would prefer a ruck from one of the good teams. Just worried that Bris will get some beatings this year.

MIDS: you could get Cotchin & Kennedy for almost the same price as Pendlebury and Thomas. Collingwood have a tough start and Thomas is an injury risk/mid priced/junk time player. I like Shuey because WCE easy games, not sure he is a keeper so would be looking at upgrading him (maybe to Pendles) after round 8.

BACKS are solid, but see if you can squeeze Bartel in there instead of Hibberd or Hurn, if you can it will look awesome.

All just my opinion :) but you did ask

  83. jonah says:

    Shuey/shaw/pav or dusty/swallow/polec?

  84. Derek says:

Vardy out for the season. Blicav becomes a very good option

  85. David says:

Thank you community for the thumbs up!

Next option to consider is another small forward but a little more coin than Hawkins.

Looking at you mate… yes Jamie… Elliott! $390,600

    2012 13 games avg 63.8
    2013 19 games avg 67.6

Plenty of talent in this kid and it showed last year. Problem he had though was the consistency. He had some good scores of 81,84,84,97,100,108 and 159 but this was undone by shocker scores of 59,57,43,40,39,28, and 26.
Most of his low scores were due to not getting enough ball use, nine games he had 11 disposals or less and some of those games he didn't even score a goal. At the age of 21 now he has that appealing bubble floating around his head and one has to ask themselves is he going to be consistent this year because that's really the only thing he needs to do to be a strong SC scorer, because he has the rest. This year I don't expect him to crack the 100 too many times like last year but I expect that he will be more consistent, find more of the pill and turn those 40's and 50's into a bigger scores.

Goals aren't the only way to a decent SC scores (Mayne, Rioli, etc)

    2014 prediction avg 80-86

Let me know what you think

  86. SCannonymous says:

COLL v RICH (The following is prefaced with the fact that this was only a NAB challenge game).
    2014 forecast:
Rich strengths – midfield depth and settled back small to medium backline mix.
Rich weakness – Rucks (Maric fitness?) Back up ruck who can demand a good defender when playing forward.
Coll strength – Tall fwds (Cloke, Reid and White). Developing small forward / midfield depth.
Coll weakness – Tough, clean users of ball in back six who can develop the chemistry essential for a flag.

It suited to travel up for the game so I was able to observe it live. Rich hungrier and ran harder. Were quick and clean by hand for much of the game. Vickery was a solid target up forward, Cotchin was himself, Dustin got quite a bit of the ball in his new role. Richmond played well – their disposal and retention of the footy has improved markedly over the last 3 years. They seemed to go wide too often when going forward though. Collingwood guns looked like they were just rolling the legs over. At times the Pies moved through middle with purpose. The small to medium backs look like their weakness.

    Def:
Rich- Really taking shape! Vlastuin was very good (Hardwick reincarnation). Morris is a classic trustworthy small back. Martin got plenty of it and Houli adds polish to disposal off the half back, he was good again. Chaplin and Rance both do a reasonable job, but probably need Griffiths or someone of his height and athleticism to move with a third tall like Reid or White.

Coll- Probably have the reverse situation to Rich. Have plenty of tall options for the back half including Reid. Keefe is disciplined and developing well. Brown is experienced, if somewhat limited to bigger less mobile type forwards. Jack Frost is a terrific defender, good closing speed disciplined and timely fist (not a SC scorer). His form and ability should see him elevated from the rookie list if a tall is injured. A definite starter post Maxwell or 2015. The small to medium backs look far less settled and cohesive. Lots of questions! Williams (did not play and has off field issues to deal with) – Sinclair did not play but might be the obvious replacement in that role. Toovey didn't play and will need VFL time I suspect. Seedsman recovering from injury. Goldsack had a hit out probably gets a run there in some capacity. Marty Clarke on fringe of best 22. Ramsay still developing. Langdon did his job (but is a first year). Armstrong didn't do enough to warrant a start but might get one by default. McAffer and Young may have to go back? It's hard to find a settled back six that assures the Pies of a top 8 finish??

    Ruck:
Rich: One of Hampson / Griffiths must stand up as a back up ruck. Hampson got his hand to the tap often enough but wasn't inspiring while Griffiths is taking his time delivering on his athletic potential. (Maric did not play and may have minor surgery before round 1!!! Clearly still hampered by injury).

Coll: Grundy played half a game and competed. Jesse White looked okay at the centre bounce a couple of times (if Quentin Lynch gets a game at all I'd be surprised).

    Mids:
Rich – Miles did nothing to damage his chances of rookie elevation. The usual Tiger suspects accumulated without fuss. There is finally some depth at Richmond with a number competing for game time in the middle – Cotchin, Deledio (both rotated forward at times), Grigg, Foley, Thomas, Conca, Miles, Ellis (Martin looks set for defence).

Coll- Swan floated in and out of the game as he pleased. Ball's endeavour was good as usual. Lumumba was quiet on a wing for much of his game time. Sidebottom was quiet, didn't notice McAffer much. C.Young is definitely an outside player, rather reactive in tight, a team can only carry so many of this type. If not for his long left boot he'd struggle on current form. Elliot spent some time in the midfield, he harassed okay – his body language was poor on a couple of occasions after kicks didn't fall his way 'one out' when forward. Fasolo looks a few VFL games shy of R1 or starting without a vest of some colour.

    Fwds:
Rich- Vickery was the main target and they moved it to him pretty well. Hampson disappointing.
Cotchin chimed in with 4. Edwards looked quick!! Aaron Edwards presented well. King played 2nd half and

Coll- When the Pies moved the ball fluently and were able to get Cloke and Reid one out they looked very good! Reid kicked 5. White played high forward and did some good things. The Pies have done well securing his services. Marsh is a big boy for 18 years and quick (presented and chased hard in the short time he had on the ground!) SC smokey?

    • Colby says:

Yep Thanks – that was enough for me to kick Watts for Vlastuin.

    • Dee says:

Thanks SC…. Brilliant dissection of the game, what did you think of Sam Lloyd? Is he a ligitimate F8? I took Garlett out…. Do you think S. Lloyd will play round 1 and keep he’s spot, what did you think of he’s performance yesterday mate? Thanks…

  87. Michael says:

Hi community, apologies if this isn't the right page for it (Jock can you set up a tab on the home page strictly for team postings?)

DEF: Bartel (MID), McVeigh (MID), Mitchell (MID), Suckling, KK, Griffiths, Cutler, Fuller
MID: GAJ, Jack, Fyfe, Jobe, Murphy, Beams, McDonald (DEF), Ellis, O'Rourke, Honeychurch (FWD)
RUC: Pyke, Sandy, Grundy, Thurlow (FWD)
FWD: Wingard, Dixon (RUC), Lamb, Rohan, Bock, Kersten, Garlett D (MID), Kennedy-Harris

    Main points:
    – all available DPP options covered (except DEF-FWD)
    – have put Griffiths in as I think he'll get game time with Maric now out early
    – not many teams I've seen have Jobe – big POD I think
    – will bring Pendles in after R8 by upgrading 2 rooks to him + rook
    – have plenty of RUC back up options if Sandy falls over: DPP with Dixon, Thurlow may get game time as well + Grundy there for cash cow too
    – all FWDS apart from maybe Garlett should start
    – bye rounds covered: 10/10/10 at the moment, R9 will upgrade three out of Fuller / Honeychurch / Ellis / O'Rourke / Lamb / Garlett, R10 will upgrade Cutler / Thurlow / Kennedy-Harris
    – may need to change DEF rooks depending on who starts

    What do you think Jock?

    • Michael says:

      …and I've got $25.5K left….

    • Derek says:

Overkill with rucks. If you have Dixon as cover for sandi you don’t need Grundy. Pretty sure bock won’t be available until round 3 or 4.
Not having dangerfield is a big risk.

      • Michael says:

will bring Danger in after first 5 rounds once he drops in price. Risky I know but hard draw early. Overkill with rucks yes, but planning on Grundy being cash cow only, will downgrade him to pay for Danger.

        • JimiHK says:

I love that you've really planned this out but I think you've taken some huge risks.

          1) Are you sure Grundy will go up that much? Or Danger will drop that far? Because I'm really dubious Grundy will go much higher than 400k, or that Danger drop much further than 520k. By round 5 I think you'll have a 100k+ gap to make up to get Danger. Plus you're denying yourself Danger from rd 1 whilst unnecessarily tying up a couple of 200k+ in your R3.

          2) Also a lot of those rookies have not seen game time in NAB, are injured, or have been very poor (KK, Cutler, Fuller, Honeychurch, Garlett, Bock).

There are good rookies out there, but (as usual) they mostly seem to be in in the MIDS. Good DEF rookies seem to be seriously scarce again. If I were you I'd re-worked the RUC and transfer the cash into upgrading the DEF rookies.

    • McClungeMagnet says:

Like the choice of Jobe, am seriously considering him in my team now. However rookies such as Garlett, Cutler and also bock seem unlikely to play.

    • Derek says:

listen to Crouching's slipper, don't chace dogdog! Libba & Wingard too pricey for what they will achieve.

As a hawk fan, im rapped to have Mcevoy as #1 ruck this year, but at SC I think he is priced too high. Don't be surprised to see him get the Red vest like Bailey did last year. It worked well for them to have the ruckman sub off and have Hale play centre for the last quarter and sub on some speed.

    • Daniel says:

Move T.Mitchell to the forward line for Chappy and sell him for a good mid priced midfielder. I reckon that this is Lobbes year in the ruck, have him in for McEvoy. I not sure on this one but Watson for Deledio, I think this is his year, great NAB cup average and save you money. With the money you have, you probably could upgrade one of the rookie mids, probably Polec.

  93. McClungeMagnet says:

Hey everyone, I was wondering where people get stats such as TOG% from during the NAB cup. Heaps of players seem to be dropping of the face of the earth but it turns out they only had 50% game time because of the extra subs.

    • Wattsie says:

Go to the AFL website. All NAB games have player stats including TOG. There are also a couple of SC communities out there who have spread sheets etc with that sort of thing.

  94. Derek says:

This is my team as it stands. Today I have Pendlebury in there, but that could change again tomorrow.

I have gone cheap in Defence and expecting some rookies like McDonald, Fuller & KK to score ok.

DEF: Mitchell, Hanley, Suckling. McDonald, KK, Fuller, (Rookie & Rookie)

MIDS: Ablett, Pendlebury, Cotchin, J Kennedy, Beams, Murphy, Dunstan, Ellis (Rookie, Rookie)

    RUCKS: McIntosh, Sandi (Thurlow, King)

FWDS: Dangerfield, D Martin, Franklin, Chapman, Pavlich, Rohan (Rookie Rookie)

My bench rookies will emerge come round 1, they will all be $117k or less.

Happy with the risk in the Rucks, Just looking to get some games and upgrade.

Forward line i'm most proud of!

    • Derek says:

$30k in bank if I have $117k rookies

    • Super_Freak says:

Not sure KK will play R1. Hasn't made an appearance in NAB

      • Derek says:

thanks SF. no-one else at that price unless I find another $10k for Webster

        • Wattsie says:

Going with both Sandi and HMac is risky. I'd look to down grade either Danger or Martin as well as downgrading Smurph and Pav to upgrade the R1 and KK.

        • Derek says:

what do people think of Colquhoun? is he in PORTS best 22? He was seriously sub affected last year and is undervalued with MID/DEF DPP

Same with Webster. Is he in SAINTS best 22. Undervalued?

          • leon says:

webster almost a lock for the saints. Played very well in the dogs game and has put on bulk. Racking left foot will be a weapon off half back.

  95. WombatsFC says:

Appraisal of a couple I was watching.
. Woods, even if Scotland didn't take take the rookie spot presented by 'Nick the psychologist' there is a reason that nobody else was interested in woods; except for 1on1 with somebody 9inches shorter he could be outplayed by a statue. Will not be upgraded unless Kruez, Warnock, Casboult, Rowe and Waite all go on LTIR.
.Cripps, will be better than Judd, Kennedy, Carey and maybe even God but, he should play a few for the Bullants first.
. Crouch nobody could have expected that his little brother would be better but I reckon he will be if he remains focused, may not get a lot of time this year but a definite chance chance considering crow injuries
. Menzel thinks he's a superstar and everbody else is rubbish; consequently all experienced players kickhisass.
. Jimmy Buckley has very good reason to be to be proud; his mosquito sized son's opponents included Douglas and he hits the ball like he's 194cm & 96kg and, was let down by the statue and menzel on numerous occaisions
. Smurph I don't care if his contested to uncontested ration is 0:100 he is as smart around a pack as Greg 'The Benchmark' Williams and will not go below 105 all season.
. Daisy, I apologise for anything non-complimentary I may have said about you Dale. I have no doubt that #39 will deliver as much joy to blues supporters in 2014,15,16 as it did when Ange was defying physics.
. Scotty 'The Monster' Thompson decided at half-time to show wannabe midfield legends Sloane & Dangerfield what it takes to be a supercoach superstar.
Sauce, you cannot seriously consider an afl ruckmans performance against wood

    • throttlefinger says:

      Well done, Wombats.

Hope "Iron Bar's" kid makes the 22. Right now would make nice mid bench player. Waffling on Smurph. Sound performance today and his price may make it too hard to resist. Need to see more from Daisy. Didn't look bad. Can be an easy corrective/downgrade option.

      • WombatsFC says:

Ignore Delivery Smurph at your peril.

        • throttlefinger says:

          "Ignore delivery"?

Been having a hard time trying to slot Cotchin in. You think Murph can deliver the same results, Wombats?

          • WombatsFC says:

Every Smurph has a name/purpose. You need kids.

            • WombatsFC says:

'Delivery Smurph' means that his delivery is the best amongst the population but, most astute followers of the worlds oldest game knew that.

A month or so back I mentioned that Cotchin copped an injury against the blues in round 1 that he carried/exacerbated that injury all year. This year he is totally fit and 100% confident expect a similar increase over his 2012 score to the increase over his 2011 score. He is an absolute master of the game and a genuine gentleman.

              • throttlefinger says:

Read that last season from other Tiger faithful. Did well considering. Just struggling with making room for him. Figure it out.

                Appreciate the lesson on Smurph.

            • throttlefinger says:

No thanks. Have two. Couldn't handle more, my man.

    • Rocksta says:

Wombats, I agree that Smurfs delivery is magnificent, but that is precisely why he will be tagged week in week out.
Can't go wrong at his price as he will definitely appreciate in value, but he definitely isn't a keeper IMO.
WRT Sauce, I agree playing against a cardboard cut out, but he is moving freely and is fit. I remember seeing footage of him last year when struggling and he could hardly Jump.
I've locked him in at R1 after tonight. Would prefer Dog Dog, but need to see him play a few first.
Daisy was great considering hasn't played for so long. He will be fantastic for the Blues this year and I along with everybody else I think have probably locked him away after tonight.
Cripps…………………Looks Bloody good doesn't he. Don't know if he'll play straight up but will definitely get games this year.

      • WombatsFC says:

Blues shouldn't have let sauce go home he was on the cusp of becoming a superstar. Sadly the big ranga suffered something on arrival at the crows and took some major steps backwards.
If he is back on track now he could turn out to be the smartest ruck pick of them all.

If Cripps grows as much this year as he did last year he'll end up being the Blues #1 Ruck!

    RUCKS: Sandi, Hickey (Thurlow, Nan)
FWD: Danger, Parker, Gunston, Dahlhaus (POD), Caddy, Jay-Kennedy (taylor, honeychurch)

Whatcha think guys any comments would be appreciated :)

    • Hugh says:

Lighten up in the middle, one of jones or jack out for a rookie and improve hickey and try to replace a defensive rookie. Langdon on.field is suicide.

      • michael says:

i reakon hickey is going to have a good year with him being the no1 will be around the contest more, yea langdon is just there atm going to see which of the def rookies play first week and will change jones if no1 good is playing

I got myself a pair of asbestos overalls & gloves, and a furnace workers helmet. Reckon I might start considering Higgins for a spot up front now.

  102. Rocksta says:

If Sandi stays fit, he will be the supreme Ruckman in the League. Gave Big Will a hiding. I think starting without him at that price is ludicrous.
As for Honeychurch, can't see him getting a game in the Early Rounds. Yet another forward Rookie whom presumably won't cut the mustard early.

  103. Rocksta says:

    BTW, where is Fuller?

  104. Rocksta says:

Starting without Sandi at that Price is Madness!
He will be the Supreme Ruckman in the League if he stays fit.
Honeychurch……………. Can't see him getting a gig early.
    Fuller……………….Does he even exist?

    • WombatsFC says:

Yeah names like Fuller, Honeychurch, Cutler, Garlett, Lewis, Martin, Michie were appearing in everybodies teams in January and those that arrived here later seemed to follow the trend.
Luckily we get a chance to see before we buy and those names have been replaced by Lloyd, Georgiou, Polec, Langford, Ellis, Merrett, and a few others
McDonald is the only only January 'LOCK' that's still in my squad

      • Rocksta says:

I've got all of the Rookies you just mentioned, except for Merrett whom I don't think will get games Early Doors. Lloyd will also be touch and go given whom he plays for ( though they did get rid of Nahas)

      • throttlefinger says:

Not worried about Mids or Fwds. Think there will be enough starting ones for R1.

Defs on the other hand…ugh. Don't want to but may have to use McD as my D6. Hope Georgiou has a repeat performance and earns a spot. Langford will have a hard time making the 22 with all the Hawks talent back there. Uggh.

  105. Rocksta says:

Jock, Time for a new Rookie Cheat Sheet.
I reckon at least half from the previous sheet will not be playing early doors, if at all this season.

  106. MarcuJ says:

Ive seen enough of sandi and dahlhaus to lock them up

  107. zimmerbd says:

Who didn't do their homework last night? Dogs v Freo match taking a while to appear. Did you have one too many on the way home Jock?

  108. Derek says:

At the moment my team structure has me playing only 2 rookies on the field Round 1. McDonald and Another Rookie DEF. I'll have Polac, Ellis and Rohan on the ground, they are rookie priced but not rookie players.

I'm just not going to take the risk with these over priced rookies this year.

How many genuine Rookies will people be starting on the ground in Round 1?

    • Rocksta says:

I have the same theory as you Derek.
I'm only starting with 1- LMac. I too also have Polec and Ellis on field in the mids.
I also have Faz and Rohan on field in the Fwd line.

    • Philthy says:

      Same for me Derek

    • markbruty says:

Still a little too early to tell, but I have a couple on the radar. At this stage only start Lukey McDonald, Polec, Ellis and Rohan, but might also add Clurey and Lennon at either end to save some cash. Just can't be sold on rookies this season.

      • Derek says:

if some rookies emerge in the first 3 rounds, i'm more than happy to put them in before the price rise, but im thinking need players guaranteed to start and get points come round 1

  109. Kristofor says:

What happened to the Bulldogs vs Freo game cheatsheet?

  110. WombatsFC says:

Hi Community this 3-step left-field selection strategy may be of benefit.

1/. After you have selected your prospective 30 put the two best players from each line on the bench.
2/. Reselect your onfield players to generate as many guaranteed points as possible.
3/. Put the benched premiums back on the field.

    • WombatsFC says:

I define Guaranteed points as a player who is on the senior list at their club and has shown during NAB that they are equal to or better than last years occupant of their intended position. IMO Luke McDonald doesn't fit the category for round 1 because he will be sub at best.

  111. Lucas says:

    Freo v WB worksheet?

  112. WombatsFC says:

I reckon Jackson Thurlow mighta put his hand up for a spot at D5 or 6.
He'll have to get a haircut that's a little less Sonic the Hedgehog but if he does I'll give him a run.
That hogan bloke looks like he might be a player one day

  113. WombatsFC says:

Does anybody have an opinion or insight into Jackson Thurlow?
I know he's from Tassie and didn't look out of place before he broke last year and I'm keen to know what the Geelong faithful believe his role will be this year.

Hell of a lot of Cats that could make a good profit this year.

    • Super_Freak says:

Polec and Laidler pretty pricey to have on bench, as is Sandilands. Money better spent on players on the park.

      • The Drop Kicks says:

Hey Super_Freak , my understanding is that it is only the Emergency Player that does not score ….
        ie J. Tippett , M. Honeychurch , F. Thurlow , D. Markworth

        • Super_Freak says:

No, both bench players scores do not count. The score from a bench player you select as an emergency will be used if an onfield player does not play.

          • The Drop Kicks says:

Bummer , Thanks for the heads up !

            • Super_Freak says:

No probs. I reckon your best move would be to use Sandi & Sauce jacobs in the rucks, and select another rookie. This will save you a lot of cash to use elswhere. The Rookie bench problem is something we are all trying to get our head around at the moment. Plenty of guys posting good NAB scores, but will they play R1?

  116. wallsa says:

What are everyone's thoughts on having SIX rookies in the midfield? (i.e. two on the bench + four on the field)

Haven't seen a whole lot of it in other peoples' teams so far, but I'm starting to see greater value in more midfield rookies.

I have more faith in rookies like Tyson, Michie, Ellis, Polec, Dunstan, Cunningham, Crouch, Beams and Aish to score well in comparison to non-midfield rookies like Kennedy-Harris, Georgiou, McDonald, Rohan etc.

    Thoughts?

    • WombatsFC says:

Interesting strategy wallsa. I'd have to look at the potential lost points in the midfield compared to those that you pick up on the fwd or backline plus, there is high probability that midfield rooks will get a vest early on.

If your other 4 are gaz, pendle, selwood, rocky/cotchin and it enables you to have mcviegh, mitchell, bartell and 1 other premium defender plus 2 premium rucks and 4 premium forwards it could be a very successful strategy.

      • wallsa says:

Yeah, the potential of lost points is the reason why i'm questioning it. Dale Thomas seems a little too cheap to turn down, so that would leave me with only three genuine premiums in my midfield, perhaps sticking to three on-field mid rookies, would be wiser…thanks for the help!

    • Super_Freak says:

Reckon 4 is a bit too many, but I'm seriously cosidering 3, cause there are such little options in forward and particularly defence. There are quite a few good Midfield rookie options and we may have to use them to cover the lack of options in other lines

    • Derek says:

I tried that last year. I works well if you want to generate cash and trade premiums in later in year and be ready for the finals, BUT if you are looking for a high ranking forget it. You need the premium mid fielders in your team from week one scoring you big points. You won’t catch up

    • SCdonkey says:

Tough call to make, i for one think starting with 3 playing Rookies in the midfield is a little to much this season. Having 4 rookies means you'd be missing on Beams, Murphy, Shuey, Daisy or even Caddy for his DPP on their points and these players will generate some cash along the way. We all know there are slim of Rookies to choose from in the Def and Fwd season, in each position have picked 1 playing rookie has not played a game in AFL level and the other that has few games under their belt. The likes of Def – Webster Mid – Polec Fwd – Hunter. Ruck as alway very problematic, can't/don't really wanna spend too much in here at the start of the season.

  117. Derek says:

If KK plays round 1 (I think he will) it will change a lot of people’s teams. Who has him in their team now and those who don’t, will you put him in if named round 1

  118. Brian says:

These are great if you haven't been able to watch all the games (like me) but what happened to game 15.

Did Wayno have too many cans watching it or is there a smokey you've seen and want to keep to youselves?

  119. Zac says:

    FWD dilemma!
    T. Mitchell (current selection), L. Dalhaus, M. Pavlich or J.Gunston

  120. WombatsFC says:

OK it's not long now until the real stuff starts and my team is coming together nicely.
I'm not going to show the lot because that might cause my POD's to be less POD and in a genderless society one should always remain modest.

DEF: Bartel, McVeigh, Mitchell, Hanley, POD, McDonald, POD, Georgiou
MID: Ablett, Pendlebury, Rockliff, Cotchin, Beams, Thomas, POD, Polec, Ellis, POD
    RUC: Sandi, POD, Thurlow, POD
FWD: Martin, Mitchell, POD, Caddy, POD, Rohan, choice of merrett, lloyd, JKH, Impey or any 2 cheapies.

Tear into it fella's or, give up now:-)

    • WombatsFC says:

Forgot to mention, 15 with round 10 Bye is going to make things a bit easier

    • @shanedeane says:

Nice team, lacks Danger but I am presuming he remains an upgrade prospect considering his slow start to seasons.

My only comment is personally I am avoiding Bartel, don't think he will produce the same output compared with previous years, unless he is already a POD, consider, Enright lower average but more consistent + cost saving which can be used for upgrades.

      • WombatsFC says:

Thanks Shane. Bartell has been in and out of my lineup since December but when Hibberd did his hammy again (he has a long history of almost immediate relapse) he became more relevant to me.
Everybody is touting the young cats to stand up in the midfield but with the high number of injuries I don't think it will happen without Jimmy regularly lending a hand. This means I also believe that he'll be drifting forward to kick goals because the cats are also low on proven goalkickers.
Yep he is a risk but I expect him to have a few 120+ games and he's a solid choice whilst I wait and see what the respective coaches do with the other options.

        • MarcuJ says:

i nearly did the same thing with hibberd as well. but im worried about what jimmys roll in the squad will be.

      Solid team.

      My comments
      – no pendles?
      – like Ziebell good POD
      – With the choice of Rook mids Martin is not a lock consider others cheaper
      – Personally I would not have Gunston, I do not expect him to get more quality possies just because there is no Buddy, the opposite is more likely.
      – Rohan? consider DG to Taylor, Impey if they are selected and pocket cash.

      Nice team

      My thoughts –
      – Like your Rooks all solid selections
      – Laidler unlikely to be a keeper therefore cheaper options for cash, depending on Rnd 1 selections consider Fuller, Clurey
      – No Pendles?
      – Would be better to use T. Mitchell as a Fwd
      – Personally I would not have Gunston, I do not expect him to get more quality possies just because there is no Buddy, the opposite is more likely.
      – Rohan? consider DG to Taylor, Impey if they are selected and pocket cash.

    G'day everyone,

The podcast got me fired up for another big SuperCoach year, and I think I'm close to locking my team in.

However, Im at a bit of a dilemma with working around the round 8 bye. At the moment I've got 7 premos at the first bye (Ablett, Cotchin, Dal Santo, Beams, Dangerfield, Martin & Enright).

Any thoughts on how to work around this? Should I downgrade one to Aish and spend around to spread over the byes? Bring in a Bernie Vince type? Or just suck it up and shit my pants come round 8?

Rookies are subject to round 1 selection.

    Thanks everyone!
