Jock Reynolds Fantasy Footy Podcast – Round 17

Three rounds till fantasy finals

There are three rounds left to endure before we battle out the 2013 Supercoach and Dreamteam finals series.

Three rounds that will separate pretenders from the real deal. Champs from Chumps. The wheat from the chaff. The diamonds from the rough. The pins in the haystacks. The birds from the feathers.

Dangerfield looks as if he will join Watson as a fallen super premium and the cat is well and truly among the pigeons in the midfield. We are getting very close to the pointy end folks and things are tight. Things are tense. This is what we love about this great game of ours.

How is your mob going?? Try to SUBSCRIBE ON iTUNES and give us a rating and a comment while you’re there.

You’ll all be rapt to learn that Mick The Mad Irishman – author of the Tight Arse Tuesday article – is not 19th in the overall Supercoach standings. GO SON!

  1. Jack says:

Terlich out this week….but for who? Hanley, Ibbotson, McKenzie.

    • ikn4l says:

I don't think you could go wrong with Hanley or ibbotson

    • duck18 says:

Hanley or Ibbo flip a coin. I have both

    • BestCoastEagles says:

Ibbotson as he has a easy run for the finals. I have Hanley and no Ibbotson as i thought Ibbo was a flash in the pan but he keeps smacking out good scores. But looking a Freo's list i don't think other team's would look at tagging Ibbo as they have Fyfe, Barlow, Mundy, Hill. Hanley is pron to the tag and sometimes he can't break the chain.

This is my lunch break from the ashes.

  3. vpongas says:

Not Shaw if I should upgrade Terlich

  4. cam says:

    is staker a keeper???

  5. Sam says:

Joined the top 2000 after a 2,430. Thanks Jock for all the wisdom!

  6. Jock Preacher says:

Jock, I am calling for you
    HEEEELLLLPPPP!!
I have watson still. On my bench i have barry mitchell-son and nathan hrovat. However I also have Dangerfield. Gottaa keep danger as i only have 4 trades so on comes mitchell. But what to do with watson? I have 630k to spend atm so can either bring hrovat on for 1-2 weeks and wait for beams to drop or to see if murphy can put together a few scores. Or do i trade this week to someone, and if so who?
I'm currently 8th in both leagues and have 3 easy wins in one league and 3 top 8 sides in my other.
    PLEASE HElP
    I'M CALLING YOU JOCK

    • Rocksta says:

      Hi Jock.

My situation is almost exactly the same as yours…………Have Watson and Danger, with Mitchell and Hrovat as my midfield bench. I also only have 4 trades left. Only difference is that I am 2nd and 1st in my 2 leagues and guaranteed to make finals in both.
In light of that, I am playing both Mitchell and Hrovat for the next week to 2, and looking to upgrade Watson to Beamer first week of finals.

    • jockreynolds says:

Gday there Preacher – I was just getting stuck into a nice bowl of meusli and sensed a strange tingling up my left leg.. usually tells me there is a community member in distress so here I am to answer your call old boy.

First things first mate. Assess which super premium midfielders you have in the guts. Ablett? Swan? JPK? Selwood? Pendlebury? If you havent got all of these magnificent bastards I want you to go ahead and trade Watson for one of them.

Give Mitchell the onfield role. The kid needs to lift for you and he will. Don't thing Hrovat is ready for onfield exposure at this stage of the season with a top 8 birth at stake in one of your leagues.

Danger has a stuffed shoulder. But if he rests properly should be back in action for Supercoach finals. With just 3 trades left you need to pray to the fantasy footy gods for his safe return. God knows many of us do mate.

Now.. most importantly… this will hurt mate but I love ya and I want you to grow as a fantasy footballer.

      CALM DOWN SON.

Have a warm bath… just reflect on a great year that sees you right in the running for a finals birth. And give thanks mate. You'll be fine. One step in front of the other. Deep breaths. Be nice to your mother.

      You can do this son.

      Jock

      • Jock Preacher says:

        Thanks jock
My current midfield is Ablett, Pendles, swan, JPK, Selwood, Fyfe, danger, Watson, Mitchell, and hrovat.
Any suggestions who to trade Watson to?

  7. Blaze says:

Scored 2322 but furious at myself for not having staker Emergency for Franklin. I lost 111 points right there.

  8. geoff says:

Bloody 2400 points!! First time!! Jock, Crouching n Higgo pearls of wisom GOLD!!!!!

    • jockreynolds says:

You're welcome Geoff. Seeing a young fantasy footy sapling develop into a considerable and robust tree gives me great enjoyment.

      All the very best mate!

  9. Chumpy says:

2290. didnt have mayes as emergency for Buddy, lost 130 points there, and picking terlich over goodes certainly was the wrong decision

  10. cam says:

    46 trades

    • jockreynolds says:

Nice one Cam! Well those DT lovers have the full 46 this season. I just reckon it takes away so much we love about this great game.. the discipline… the gut wrenching choices…

  11. Gary says:

Tom Mitchell and Hartlett to Pendles and Arnot? This means I may have Arnot/Clisby on the field for a week or two to cover Danger though…

    • ikn4l says:

Arnot has a sketchy job security, I wouldn't touch him IMO

    • jockreynolds says:

Gday there Gaz – yep.. see where youre heading there and great thinking trying to get Pendles in. The bloke is a bloody must.

However getting towards the end of the season to me you take out 2 players with solid job security and only get back 1 with solid JS.. that'll hurt you later on

  12. CloneMan says:

Keep Terlich and Nicholls or trade them both?

    • Osh says:

I think you should keep Nicholls but I'm not sure on Terlich

    • Matt says:

      Trade Terlich, keep Nicholls.

    • jockreynolds says:

Gday there CloneMan! Depends a bit on your situation, number of trades remaining, league win or overall etc… generally I think you have two players with good job security and reasonable JS there – but with trades in the pocket I'd be looking to move Terlich on

  13. willeefto says:

Been coping Hartlett all year. Should I go Hartlett to Hanley?

  14. Judd says:

2384, the fact I picked up Winderlich when he was 250,000 is starting to pay off, glad Franklin didn't play, from now on I'm having Winderlich on field over Zorko, bloody had it with that boy.
Gibbs, Terlich, Dangerfield and Cox all in my team and had very average scores so I'm content with nearly getting to 2400.
Good to see a lot of the community with solid scores this week.

  15. Sam says:

Hang on to Hartlett? No cash in the bank, but would like to trade him so i can have Goodes on the field

  16. James says:

Any thoughts on Rockcliff, with easy run home and cheap price?

  17. Osh says:

Who's a better option for F6: Staker or Christensen?

  18. Darby Dashers says:

2382 waiting for this west coast boys left me down kennedy, cox and nic nat!!

  19. Zac says:

    Stevie J or J.Selwood?

  20. Brim says:

What's that song at the beginning??

  21. keir says:

really thinking i should trade out Cox or Nic Nat for big Will Minson just cant decide which one to trade out as they're both spuds ATM any suggestions?

    • Matt says:

Keep both. I have both and they'll definitely come good. Couple of bad weeks doesnt warrant a trade.

  22. Remy says:

Scored 2487 with some big helpful scores from Mayes (130), Roughy (130), Stevie J (143), Hannebery (122), Selwood (133) and also the likes of Swan, Ibbotson, Ablett, Goodes, D. Martin, Redden, JPK and Kruezer.
    My PB score: ranked 1,770
My team is looking great going in to finals and I owe it all to the community for being a great help.

  23. Spifflicator says:

Crouching VERY UNIMPRESSED with Harry O joke. Fly kick your own arse for being in poor taste.

Call on Enright over Grimes however, spot on.

    • TG_Footy_Tragic says:

      It's a JOKE!!! Damn this politically correctness….

People need to have a glass of concrete!!!

Love ya work Jock and co.

  24. Michael says:

Trades this week – need to finalise my DEF – looking at the following options with $47.7K in the bank:
    1. Ellis OUT, Hibberd IN
    2. Shuey OUT, Goodard to MID, Shaw IN
    3. Ellis OUT, Henderson IN (POD)
    4. Ellis OUT, Burgoyne IN
    Thoughts?

    • Spifflicator says:

      Option 2

    • ikn4l says:

Ellis to Hanley (if you don't have him yet) or to hibberd

    • Michael says:

I should clarify I have 1 trade left and the following team:
DEF: BJ, Hanley, Heppell, Gibbs, Ibbotson, Ellis (Webster, Clisby)
MID: Pendles, GAJ, Swan, JPK, Bartel, Priddis, SJ, Titch (Shuey, B Goodes)
RUC: Cox, J Roughead (Nicholls, Gorringe)
FWD: A Walker, Rocky, JJK, Cloke, Buddy, NicNat (Staker, Hitchcock)
So from that, what are thoughts on the options above? Keen on option 2 depending on how long Shuey is out for. Going for best result overall, currently 1497th. Just gotta pray for no injuries!

  25. James says:

    Hey Jock, Crouching and Higgo,

I've had enough of Zorko so how does a trade to Stevie J sound if he isn't suspended? Also should I upgrade Terlich to Heath Shaw or is their a better option?

    Cheers

    • jockreynolds says:

Bugger – Stevie J is gone for a week the poor bugger. I have no problem at all with your Terlich to Shaw move – solid in my view

      • James says:

I guess I'll hold of trading Zorko this week and do the trade next week.

        Thanks for the advice Jock.

  26. Bruds says:

Nothing more frustrating than the bench scoring more than on field players!!
I was delighted to score 2450 but would have reached 2570 if i had goodes over hartlett, mitchell over priddis and staker over nic nat. Like higgo i have blasted away trades and am now wondering if i can afford to invest in a rookie to act as a fwd or mid loophole to allow me to utilise all points that my team generates?

    • jas says:

Does suck Bruds but even with swing men it would take some figs to start those rookies – as consistent as they have been – over your premiums.

    • BestCoastEagles says:

Hindsight is a beautiful thing, starting Rookies over Premium players is the recipe to be scorched. Not sure about these rolling lockouts where people can change willy nilly for scores it is good if a player is a late out. Captain's loophole should be the only joker in the pack i think.

    • jockreynolds says:

Yeah that is frustrating isnt it mate. On your question there – if you are down to just 2 trades like the Man They Call Higgo I'd tend to just conserve your trade and not worry about brining in a loop to make use of your DPPs. HOLD

  27. JJFYZZ says:

Hi Jock and the boys. Thanks again for another great POD cast.

    I like the 30 trades.

Sitting at ranking 462. A big thank you to you and the boys!

    • jockreynolds says:

Very welcome mate! Great to hear that you're having a solid year. Gives us a great lift to see young fruit trees that start to produce lovely ripe, flavioursome fruit at this time of year.

Enjoy the ride son.. and go for broke for the main prize!

  28. JJFYZZ says:

Secondly, is StevieJ just plain dumb??

1st week back from 2 weeks out, 70 carry over points and he's at it again!!

    • FrontPocket says:

I think his footy brain has eclipsed his rational / logical processing brain. The question is where the risk / reward line lies for having him in your team, or NOT having him in your team as the case may be.

Have $550k on the bench half the season, but scoring 120+ each game for the other half of the season.

      • JJFYZZ says:

        That is the question!!

I have Rockliff sitting on my bench (and loophole) just to cover StevieJ!

Mind you both this week helped me pump out my highest score ever!

    • BestCoastEagles says:

With a little luck he won't miss any. Unfortunately i don't think he will change as he get's older he will only become more cranky. Between suspensions and injuries he does miss a fair bit of footy. Must admit his scores are a delight when he is playing

    • James says:

It was an accidental hit to Nathan Jones' chest if he gets suspended for that the MRP are just stupid.

  29. jas says:

Jock 24 trades gets my vote. Far more research required for a great team come season end. Players breakeven and runs home become so much more relevant.
I kno players this season who have not even considered breakevens – bc they dont really have to with so many trades easy to get a full premo team.
I think keep rolling lockout for Sunday teams only. Again forces you to consider the ins and outs a lot more closely.
And get rid of capt lookhole too. If you pick Gaz for Capt that is your pick!

  30. Richo says:

what do we do with lance franklin??
    3 trades left

  31. brentdurran says:

I think 24 trades was plenty enough… If they want to keep 30 trades so everyone keeps playing during the byes rounds then they should make players prices change as soon as they play one game not wait until we all see if they are worth it or not…bring back some skill in this game and then we will have different players in all of our teams come finals.
    Thought boys??

  32. Spifflicator says:

Priddis – 3 trades left, do I keep or upgrade to a $600k mid?

  33. Xavier says:

    HI All,

Would love some suggestions on how to strengthen my Backline? I have $85,600 in the bank. and team looks as follows. Jock do you have any cheap defenders in mind??

    DEF
    1. Goddard, B 2. Gibbs, B 3. Ibbotson, G 4. McKenzie, T 5. Staker, B 6. Clisby, M (Colquhoun, S + Richards, X)
    MID
    7. Pendlebury, S 8. Ablett, G 9. Swan, D 10. Selwood, J O'Keefe, R Barlow, M . Fyfe, N Mitchell, T (Hrovat, N + Kennedy, B)
    RUCK
    15. Naitanui, N 16. Nicholls, T 27. Witts, J . Grimley, S
    FWDS
    Bartel, J Roughead, J Westhoff, J Franklin, L Johnson, S Ryder, P (Mayes, S Daniher, J)

  34. Ozzie says:

in some serious trouble in the backline!

sitting birchall on the bench still have vlaustin and terlich on field, team complete everywhere else with 4 trades left!
    do i..
trade out terlich high b/e this week and gonna leak some cash?
trade out birchall for premo and put vlaustin on bench? keep in mind the 4 trades left.
out of contention for overall prize but first in semi serious league and 4th in serious league, thinking of holding on to the trades for finals? what you think!?!

    • ikn4l says:

Depending on how much cash you got, I would be upgrading Terlich and birchall and leave vlauston as cover on the bench, he has dropped too much to upgrade and he can provide good cover on the bench.

    • BestCoastEagles says:

Hold ! .Unfortunately you are no Robinson Crusoe when it comes to Backline hassles this year. Would not worry about Terlich leaking cash as Vlaustin has lost 100K in the last month. If you do pull the trigger i would give Birch the Highland Flick to a Premo as he could be out for another month. Terlich has done o.k he only had that bad score on the weekend and should bounce back as is is a older Rookie. I would be riding out the storm though if it was up to me.

    • Bruds says:

hey ozzie, definitely look at getting in hanley this week with a breakeven of 47, for the other spot either this week or next try and get in goddard, heppell, shaw or gibbs if you don't have any of them.

  35. Jacko says:

I'm starting to think that Nicholls should start over Nic Nat, thoughts? I need a fwd/mid for dual coverage, Bartel or Boomer Harvey?

    • James says:

If you have currie or a non playing ruck man you can start the player playing first on the bench as emergency. If you are happy with his score sub on the non scoring player for the other position. Like captains loophole

    • SCaddict says:

Yeah I reckon he's amassed a body of work to prove he's a reliable starter. He's relegated Maric to my bench now.

  36. ikn4l says:

Zorko to rockliff? Or wait for the likes of rioli or nic nat to drop?

  37. Joshau says:

"Flounces" is the word Jock was looking for. After the disaster of Captain Jobe last week derailing my team's innings, a tidy 2481 has me back on the wagon! I didn't have the faith in Rockliff, but i've kept him and glad I did.

  38. Nolz says:

Thoughts on Monfries? Been hanging onto him as a solid POD and Port have a good run home but he's not setting the world on fire. Only have three trades left though so I'm thinking hold?

    • Rocksta says:

I'm assuming you have him in your forward line? If so, he is averaging over 90 ( which isn't all that bad), and with only 3 trades left I think it would be a waste of a trade to get rid of him.
Keep the 3 up your sleeve for injuries, which are sure to come

  39. Jake the Snake says:

Dangerfield not looking too promising to play they next couple i weeks i hear..?
    Who to pick from:
    -Swan
    -Griffen
    -Barlow

Also, thoughts on if Buddy and Sotkes will return next week? I copped a donut due to Stokes' late withdrawl :( still managed 2300+ and won my round though!

  40. @Jacko2128 says:

getting terlich out for a forward (via staker swing), who is the best option for under 471k?

Or should i downgrade another player to get someone like roughhead?

  41. Xavier says:

thoughts on Cox for Bartel?? The big man seems to be tappering off a little and I'm in a dog fight for top 4 in my league…

  42. JB says:

Which player is the best downgrade option for a floating donut (non-playing) to take advantage of loopholes? Thoughts …

    • cotchandmurph says:

Um maybe D Currie or J Viney even J Daniher

      • James says:

Go the 96,000 options to generate as much cash and look for dual post player for more flexibility.

    • ShinbonerSpirit says:

McBean could be used for some RUC/FWD magic with Nic Nat, Cox, Roughy etc. Also look at Jaksch. His FWD/DEF could be useful if you have Staker. He should also debut soon, so there's a good chance he'll eventually play.

  43. cotchandmurph says:

I no alot of people who are happy with 1 trade left who are in the top 1000, i have 4, what is a good amount

    • Genco says:

With nicholls Mitchell hunter clisby and daniher as backup and 1 trade, I'm not too dissapointed.

  44. Zac says:

My midfield is Gaz, Pendles, Beams, Priddis, Cotch, JPK, Danger and T.Mitchell
Who to get in for Dangerfield? Can get anyone around the ground other than ruck, all considerable thoughts are welcome..

    • James says:

      Selwood, Barlow, swan

    • ShinbonerSpirit says:

Agree with James. Also, Griffen is going to drop pretty spectacularly over the next fortnight. If you want to wait, he looks the goods.

      • Zac says:

Don't want Swan as I already have Beams and Pendles, I'm favouring Barlow as his finals run looks good. Griffin seems to have slumped of recent as well.

  45. Josh says:

Hi community, Should I trade out Dangerfield for Barlow or Watson for Selwood. I have T.Mitchell to cover whoever I chose to keep, if I trade out Dangerfield I will have a premium on the bench for longer but I will also get Barlow who is in great form (this will be more beneficial for the finals), But then if I trade out watson it wil benefit me short term as I will have a premium on the bench for only a couple weeks. Any help will be much appreciated.

    • Rocksta says:

I cannot understand why everybody is talking about trading Danger. He will be out for 2 weeks tops, and behind Ablett, Pendles and Swanny is the next best at premium score output.
Watson surely won't be back until Rd 21 at best and then probably not back to his best Until Rd 23. Watson to Selwood is also pretty much a like for like so do it.

  46. luke says:

Im also stuck with Dangerfield. Have 6 trades left and just 1 player away from a full premium team. Was planning to downgrade someone (not sure who yet and to who) to generate cash, as Im nearly broke, then upgrade Staker to Bartel. Thinking of leaving Dangerfeild on the sidelines for a week or two as I do have good midfield coverage (Mitchell, Hrovat). What do you guys think?

    • James says:

Clisby maybe still one of the better options. He should play out all the remaining games but pricy at 180 or so. Should average around 60. Or you could take a risk with matt arnott with bad job security around a similar average but 70k cheaper

  47. James says:

Is it worth with 4 trades left and a pretty solid team with good bench cover to sideways from hartlet to Hanley. He could average up to 30 more a match in my opinion. Any thoughts?

    • Super_Freak says:

I don't see that as sideways. Hanley will definitely outscore Hartlett and I'm tipping by a bit more than 30 each week. If it was me I would do it.

  48. ShinbonerSpirit says:

    Ripping podcast boys!

How does this look community? I'm planning to go Watson to Shaw via Goddard so I can keep a MID/DEF DPP link in case of injuries. It would also leave me with a full team plus Brett Goodes. Don't want to get rid of him until he loses form.

  49. Robert says:

How is my team going? what do i need to improve?

Backline: Hanley, Shaw, Gibbs, Heppell, Grimes, Clisby Bench Thurlow and Docherty

Midfield: Ablett, Barlow, Swan, Griffen, Pendles, Cotchin, Priddis, Mitchell ( Swans) Bench Crouch and Viney

Ruck: McEvoy and cox bench Witts and Hannath

Forward: Bartle, Franklin, Pavlich, Kennedy, Staker, Cloke Bench Oxley and McBean

PS: I got rid of Omeara for Barlow If you have any other and better options i can get ( I can get someone MID FORWARD OR BACKLINE) Please comment below and let me know ASAP

    Cheers Rob

    • Mitch says:

Team Looks Good, Only thing left to do is uprgrade your D6, F6 or even your 2nd ruck (Clisby, Staker and McEvoy)
Look at Ibbotson for the backline, solid player with dream run home.

    • Mitch says:

And Can’t go wrong with any of the Freo boys Either (Fyfe, Barlow, Mundy)

    • Super_Freak says:

Trade up D6 before F6. Staker is returning some nice scores atm

  50. Callum says:

I'm going to go for another trade this week even though I have only 3 left, I am looking to rise in the rankings and in my leauge I am 100 points ahead on the averages so thats pretty much wrapped up, still havn't lost a game there yet. Anyway, I am tossing up between going Terlich Swing goodes into the backline as he is not even an emergency on the bench Barry Mitchell's Son is my emergency, but with dangerfield out for 2 weeks, goodes would be my emergency and bring in arnot leaving 2 trades and plenty of money 2 make 2 big upgrades. Or go straight to Hanley having clisby as emergency down back and webster (could use loop some weeks), would leave about 175k to go rowe/ Hannath to premium ruck and 1 for injury. Need a bit of help there.

About the trades for 2014, I think 24 wasn't enough and 30 too much, though it may not seem it with all the problems we have gone through this year, so I reckon 26 would be perfect. I am nlot playing dream team 1 because too many trades and 2 the scoring system is just stupid, theres no reward for good play other thank kicking goals and getting alot of disposals.
    Thanks

  51. Daniel says:

Great podcast jock and the crew! Who would be a good premium forward to get if Stevie j is out? Thanks

  52. cam says:

should nicholls start instead of z.clarke

  53. Liam says:

Will A.Swallow miss any weeks with his hand injury? Considering trading him out anyway. Thoughts?

  54. Fabian says:

    Is Charlie Dixon dead?

    Classic!!

Dead to me, had him on the bench for a very long time!!

  55. Mitchell says:

    Mckenzie or Shaw?
Mckenzie nice run home but just not sure he will keep the form if he gets opposition attention

  56. Jeff says:

I only have 4 trades left with Terlich at D6. Should I trade him to Hanley or hold off trading this week?

    • Zac says:

If you need wins pick Hanley while he's cheap, has a good run home and looks in form after the past few matches.

  57. Joey says:

hey community…what should i do with Nic Nat trade or hold…also zorko.

Thinking of going zorko for martin or pavlich. Any help would be awesome guys

    • Dee says:

You're looking at trading Nic Nat!? Crouching should fly kick you in the head 14 times….. LOL. Definitely hold mate

  58. Wade says:

    Great podcast guys!
Not sure about JJK and Buddy..
Looking to get Roughy in for one of them to finish off my team. Which one should I offload for him?

    • Genco says:

I've already offloaded josh j but for Jordan Lewis a couple of rounds ago. Paid off as his form has begun to dwindle

  59. Pieman1978 says:

Dear Jock, Higgo & Crouching, At the beginning of the season I was all for 30 trades. Now I must agree it’s too many. In the main league I play in last year maybe half of teams were able to make it to full premium. This week I am playing the 17th ranked team who has reached Full Premium. At the start of the season his team was getting spanked & this has helped with percentage for the lucky teams who played him early. This week I am projected for 2480 & he is projected at 2420. I’ll be lucky to win. I am sitting 8th & there is 4 points & .5% separating 2nd & 8th. I made full premium using 24 trades, & I made mistakes along the way. 30 trades are too many & mean you can start with a spud team & end full premium, & change. That would not have happened in years gone by. I’ll be the first to admit I should be at 19 premiums & 4 trades left, if it was like last year. This would really make me massively nervous about any trade from here on end._

Great input mate thanks very much. Agree it does make it much easier to reach the full premium team which takes away a real fine and refined art. Some would argue that the advantage remains with the coach who is able to get there sooner… but fact remains that in games towards the end of the season this advantage is taken away.

  60. Pieman1978 says:

Next: the rolling lockouts. To use this effectively you need to follow SC all weekend. If you have kids, sports, commitments it’s very tough. Instead of sinking cans on the golf course Saturday I have to set alarms & closely monitor for the same reason I have kids, late withdrawals. I have been caught out 3-4 times this year & copped donuts whilst putting for birdies. Opponents have taken advantage of my lifestyle & made trades last minute to take advantage. Friday lockout (set & forget), check in on your scores when you can is the way to go. If you have a player who’s a late out with no emergency BAD LUCK._If I’m not mistaken there were 400,000 odd entered teams last year & this year just over 300,000. Something turned people off & I would anticipate that the above mentioned issues may have something to do with that._Perhaps Jock & army of followers can create a break away league (Superjocks) & reinstate the old rules & punish the spuds that don’t have a decent starting team. The skill of the game has been severely compromised in 2013._I would also be all for league starting round 1 & no league games in bye rounds._Cheers boys,_Pieman_

    • Super_Freak says:

Well said Pieman. I agree with everything you said. 30 trades is too many and I too believe it has compromised the skill level of the game. Gone are the days of researching players and getting an advantage over your fellow competitors with a good starting team.

I am not a fan of the rolling lockout, too many advantages to people who can afford to monitor their team all weekend. I also believe the league should start round 1 and miss the bye rounds.

      My 2 cents.

      • jockreynolds says:

Yep.. leagues starting round 1 rewards those who have done the hard yards and studies… lets them come right out of the blocks before others can make corrective trades before round 4. Great stuff Super.,

        • Super_Freak says:

Exactly Jock. Hopefully your immense supercoach influence will get the big wigs at Herald Sun to take notice and make some changes for next year.

      • Spifflicator says:

        Plus 1

  61. Er, Significant Jock says:

    MY TEAM:

DEF: Goddard, Gibbs, Hanley, Hartlett, Heppell, Staker (Birchall, Pittard)

MID: Swan, Pendlebury, J. Selwood, JP Kennedy, Cotchin, Priddis, Fyfe, T. Mitchell (S. Johnson, Hrovat)

    RUC: Cox, Nicholls (Naitanui, Currie)

FWD: Bartel, A. Walker, Martin, Rockliff, JJ Kennedy, Zorko (Franklin, X. Richards)

    4 Trades left.

Should I sideways trade Hartlett for Duffield, or HOLD?

    • Jay says:

why trade to Duffield – not even sure if he's fully fit yet! I would probably be looking at trading Birchall out first..

  62. jockreynolds says:

Gday there jas – completely agree I reckon 24 is the sweet spot. Dont mind the captains loophole as much I reckon that creates an interesting dynamic within the game… thanks for your input old son!

  63. Zac says:

    J.Selwood or Barlow?

  64. Xavier says:

would you trade either buddy or cox at the moment? concerns for both – would like to put bartel or kennedy in…

  65. Tom says:

So i already have Hanley & Ibbotson in my backline,
IS IT INSANE to trade out maric for a random like McBean (for loophole) and make Nicholls R2, then I can upgrade Terlich to Malceski?

  66. Alan says:

I couldn't agree more with many of the comments from the great man Jock and other people like Pieman 1978. I have played SC since it's dawn and there are a few things that really bug me. (1) Rolling lockout is annoying. Set and forget. It's a huge advantage to those who have carefully selected their emergencies. It works even better now that you have 4 emergencies. I to like many others have a life and don't want to be jumping on a PC or tablet every 5 minutes to see if there has been any late changes (2) Not starting league games round 1. ( those like me who do their research and heavily follow the pre season never gain any benefit. (3) Playing league games during bye rounds is just dumb all round. If you jump on players from emerging teams then you are crucified. You end up picking your list based on the fixture and not on potential talent. (4) Too many trades. I like 24 or 26. With 30 many teams are loaded up full up premiums very early on in the season and league games become boring as many have the same players. If these things were changes then I think it would make a huge difference, and give those who follow football much closely a real advantage. I'm currently 7,000 overall, lost 5,000+ spots in the last bye round, got crucified for having a premium midfield. Let me know what you think. Best regards Alan from http://www.inmysportingopinion.com.au. All reports are this week Dangerman is out for 4 weeks, so lots of thinking to-do. Watson to Selwood was good last week, but down to 8 trades, may just use Tom Mitchell this week.

  67. @Jacko2128 says:

get OUT – Duffield or terlich?

get IN – dusty martin or n riewoldt? OR HOLD?

  68. Alex says:

I need to get rid of Sam Jacobs for a rookie ruckman, but i dont know who.. Thoughts?

  69. James says:

I agree with only getting 24 trades. It was my first year this year and I made my team in one day the day before with spud sc players such as Greene, Van uen, Lewis jetta, Hawkins, darling and stringer. Now, even after trading like an absolute spud early on My team is now getting 2300 fairly easily the last couple of rounds. These 30 trade have been nothing but a godsend for me this year but I see how it disadvantages other better players who put more time into their team.

  70. Jimmy says:

Currently sitting on 5 trades and planning to trade Terlich to McBean (swinging Staker into the backline) which allows me to move Cox into my FWD putting Zorko on the bench and Nicholls on the field in my RUC. This trade creates $332,500 which I'm planning on using to send Crouch to a premium sometime before finals and also pocketing ±$100,000 which I can use to patch another area on my ground (Hartlett and Franklin look most likely). If Buddy is not named this week then, it is a no-brainer for me to send him to Bartel with my 2nd trade to avoid a donut and generate an average of 17ppg. But, if Buddy is named and there is no reason for me to trade him this week, who should I be looking at to bring in for Crouch? I was thinking of waiting a week for Griffen to drop ±$30,000 and Crouch to rise ±$20,000, but I was also considering bringing in Mundy this week who is in great form averaging 126 in his last 3 and 118 in his last 5 and also has that great Fremantle finals run, what are people's thoughts?

Just for the record, my current midfield is:
Ablett, Pendlebury, Swan, Barlow, Selwood, JPK, Priddis, Mitchell, (Crouch, Hrovat)

  71. David says:

    Just terrible……

  72. Liam says:

Is there any chance of Jobe Watson playing Sc finals or will I just have to live in hope?

  73. Jack says:

Buddy Franklin, stuff him. Cost me a donut last week in a 16 point loss in my most competitive league. Not picked again this week.

    OUT: Franklin
    Swing Staker to FWD
    IN: Hanley

3 trades and $100,000 left. Top 2 positions in 3/4 leagues, cherry ripe for finals.

Also makes my back line Goddard, Shaw, Gibbs, Heppell, Ibbotson, Hanley with Goodes and Webster on the bench. Scratch Webster, possibly yet best back line you could have I reckon, this season..

Looking Staker to Cyril before finals, Staker being the only player in my team that isn't proven premium (despite scoring very well).
